Sialkot Stallions have formed a strong squad in the HBL PSL auction. Head coach Tim Paine said the team has tried to bring an Australian cricketing flavor into the setup.

Sialkot Stallions selected a 16-member squad comprising national and international players during the HBL PSL auction. The franchise directly signed Australian star Steve Smith for Rs140 million. The team retained Mohammad Nawaz for Rs61.6 million, Salman Mirza for Rs39.4 million, Ahmad Daniyal for Rs22.4 million and Saad Masood for Rs8.4 million.

In the auction, Sialkot Stallions bought Sahibzada Farhan for Rs61.6 million, while Ashton Turner was signed for Rs42 million, Peter Siddle for Rs25 million and Tabraiz Shamsi for Rs22 million. Opening batter Shan Masood was picked for Rs6.5 million. Jahanzeb Sultan, Lashlan Shah and Diano Patgieter were added to the squad for Rs6 million each.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe was signed for Rs23 million, batter Owais Zafar for Rs6 million and left-arm wrist spinner Momin Qamar for Rs10.75 million.

Head coach Tim Paine said that an Australian flavor has been added to the Sialkot Stallions squad and that a world-class batter like Steve Smith will prove very valuable for the team. He added that he has been following the PSL for the past six years and is excited about the league after recently starting his coaching career. He also described Sahibzada Farhan as a quality T20 batter who understands Pakistani conditions well.

Meanwhile, bowling coach Sohail Tanvir said that variations have been added to the team’s bowling attack and young fast bowlers like Ahmad Daniyal and Salman Mirza are part of the squad.

Delano Potgeiter is a smart pick. He is a proper seam-bowling all-rounder who can also come in and hit the ball down the order. Overall it looks like a good side. Good mix of local and foreign talent.

They’ve gone out and done what they said they will, they were going to build it with an Australian flavour

4-5 Aussies in the camp including the coach is a very good strategy.

Well it matters who the Australian players are too. But luckily they've picked good players. Barring the Lachlan Shaw guy who I don't know about at all and he seems like a bit of a rookie.

They’ve got Pakistan’s best Batter (Farhan) and current best pacer (Salman)

That’s 2 proper players

Then they have Australia’s best BBL batter (Smith) and also their winning captain (Turner)

Phillipe and Shaw were pretty decent for Sixers

Nawaz is a different player now, which is also an upgrade.

Saad Masood and Ahmad Daniyal belong to winning mindset too. They have both performed well for Pakistan A in the Emerging Asia cup

Ashton Turner is a pretty good player in the middle order who can also bowl. He just led Perth Scorchers to the BBL title.

Siddle still has gas left in him. Can bowl 145+ on a consistent line and length even now

Best XI

1. Smith *
2. Farhan
3. Philippe * (WK)
4. Shan
5. Turner *
6. Saad
7. Nawaz
8. Daniyal
9. Siddle *
10. Mirza
11. Momin (E)

They are stacked with Aussies and I think they have severely overrated some of them. I can't believe how much money Steve Smith is getting. Not sure how Siddle got picked. I honestly thought this guy had been retired for years.

Team looks like it should have plenty of opportunities for Saad Masood to really standout and raise the ceiling on this team. Fast bowling on this team might look a little ugly.

Siddle should have been the bowling coach.
His bowling style may not be suited to Pakistani stadia.

I would like to see Smith succeed especially after his BBl exploits this year, he should be leading this squad to the finals at the bare minimum.

Steve Smith bought for too high. Is he the highest paid cricketer in this PSL?

Sahibzada Farhan is the best T20 bat in Pakistan and he will be the key for Stallions.

So they have opted for 7 foreigners and only 9 local players.

They should have added a few more Pakistanis

Sialkot Stallions have strengthened their squad for the 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League by signing Muhammad Shahzad, Arshad Iqbal, and Nisar Khan, with each player acquired for Rs. 60 lakhs. With these additions, the team’s squad now stands at 19 players as they prepare for the upcoming PSL season.

Explain how?
Thier batting line up is boring barring Farhaan and they have nobodies in the line up. Be honest have you ever heard of the overseas players.
Peter Siddle like wth the one only players who they picked good is Salman Mirza and Daniyal.
steve smith was brought for how much lol.

I have heard and seen all of their overseas players

Smith will run havoc on Pakistani pitches as an opener

Phillipe needs a bit of time and he’s going to blast some teams too.

Ashton Turner has immense potential too.

I don’t think you watch enough cricket.

Ashton Turner isnt he like 33 should have already reached his potential.

Really happy to see them sign Muhammad Shehzad. He deserved to be drafted and while his T20 stats so far aren't too uninspiring, I think there is plenty of potential there with what he has shown in FC with an extremely high SR. The hope is it eventually stats translating into results for T20.

The team is lacking pace allrounders too so he should be able to get some opportunities there and not be buried in depth like he was with IU.

Also glad that they signed Arshad Iqbal

Good to see them giving a path to arshad who was sidelined for nothing,,, Arshad has immense potential and I hope he can revive his career now.. We really need good bowlers.. Shaheens and naseems and rauf are done and dusted

Mohammad Shahid, owner of PSL franchise @PSLStallionz claims he holds 76% shares & alleges partner Hamza Majeed (24%) is attempting to sell additional shares without authorization.

Shahid says he has informed the PCB & PSL management and reserves the right to take legal action.

What makes me nervous about the Sialkot Stallions and Rawalpindi acquisitions is that these are consortiums, partnerships between different businessmen, parties. Just one disagreement, falling out and the entire team ownership collapses because no one in Pakistan can afford the price individually. Also how do these guys decide who runs the team, who will be the face of the team, who interacts with the players, support staff, who gets credit when the team wins, who is answerable if the team is not delivering?

Anybody who is not playing IPL forgets to hold bat according to our beloved indian posters 😂

Multan gets extra purse

“Due to the exceptional circumstances under which Multan Sultans were acquired, the franchise with the approval of the other teams has been granted an incremental PKR 1.2 crore increase in their salary cap, along with permission to make two additional signings, taking their maximum squad size to 22 players, although they will, like other teams be limited to a matchday squad size of 20 players.”

Shan Masood ahead of Phillipe?

So in spinners they have Nawaz, Shamsi, Saad, Arafat, Faisal & Momin. 3 are left arm leg spinners....

Multan batting looks weak. I'd like to see them trade a spinner for a bat to get some balance on the side.
Arafat looks like he'll be buried behind Nawaz. IIRC, he was buried behind by Nawaz couple of seasons back under Karachi as well.

Ideally, I'd like to see them trade Nawaz for a good bat if possible and it gives more opening for their depth spinners and would give them balance in their batting. Who knows if that's possible though.

Man released Salman Mirza and Ahmed Daniyal for Waseem JR, Faisal Akram and Arafat Minhas

I don’t think these are sensible trades. Mirza and Daniyal are solid T20 bowlers

Shan Masood ahead of Phillipe?
Philippe has experience batting all over the batting line-up and the type of gameplay he has, he can be effective anywhere between 1-6. Shan Masood, if he is playing, has to bat in the top 3.

Has anyone checked what is the source of his finances?

Some journalists were praising him saying that he is an ex-first class player & this is his record. Two matches out of nowhere, 0.5 batting average, 265 bowling average so obviously he didn't make it to first class based on merit.

He did a recent live podcast on Relukatty. I'm watching it.

He says he was in UK for college and was playing Cricket there but got injured. Back injured because of an injury in the gym - I think he slipped or something.

He then decided to say goodbye to his Cricket career because of injury recovery time and because he had lost his pace.

He pursued his career in finance. Says he did his masters, was hired in a company in UK. Then did his own finance and trading stuff which blew up and succeeded in making a lot of money. Hence why he bought the team.

I can't say he's lying. But certainly quite the story

They got some good players in.

1. Josh Philippe (WK)(O)
2. Sahibzada Farhan
3. Steve Smith (O)
4. Awais Zafar
5. Ashton Turner (O)(C)
6. Mohammad Shahzad/Saad Masood
7. Delano Potgieter (O)
8. Arafat Minhas
9. Mohammad Wasim Jnr
10. Arshad Iqbal/Shehzad Gul
11. Faisal Akram

Some good overseas players like Siddle & Shamsi. But there are some good local players as well.

As for Mohammad Nawaz & Shan Masood, terrible.

Total cricket is what he is talking about, fast, agile, to the mark players. Built ready for in match situations adapting to
Modern day times.

Excited to see what he has to offer, let’s see if he gets a buy in from the players, Wasim Jr is going to lead the attack which should enhance his own game. Set internationals like Smith, Nawaz, Turner, Farhan,Waz along with youngsters like Minhas, Akram, Shehzad should add a lot of value to them. I really feel Minhas and Shehzad could establish themselves as the go to seam and spin all rounders in the team along with Nawaz who I feel will get a higher role in the middle order in this team. Most likely Smith, Siddle, Turner as Captain and Phillippe as keeper should start. Let’s see if they go with likes of Shan Masood or he remains back up.

Farhan
Smith
Phillipe
Nawaz
Turner
Minhas
Shehzad
Imran Randhawa
Waz Jr
Siddle
Akram

He is vice captain so he has to play.

This is stupidity. Masood shouldn’t even be playing T20!

Pakistan cricket keeps repeating the same old mistakes that are the reason for it not growing in this format!
He's a decent no. 4. Remember how he carried Pakistan's batting in WT20 2022 when RizBar up top were failing.

He scored crucial runs against India and then vs England in the Final.

How was he rewarded then? He was thrown out of the side.

Plus Multan has philipe and Turner for 3 and 4

In league Cricket you see things on a per year basis mostly. In current squad. Shan as no. 4 fits well.

Turner will play at 5 or 6. Even for Scorchers he doesn't play at 4.

Multan Sultans spinner Momin Qamar media talk in Lahore:

Preparation and Team Confidence

Momin: "Everyone is confident. Everyone has come prepared through the domestic cricket season, playing consistently from the start. Alhumdulillah (By the grace of God), everyone is feeling confident."

Moving from Lahore Qalandars to Multan Sultans

Momin: "Your first season is always very exciting. You’re thrilled because the PSL is such a massive league and you’re getting a chance to be part of it. Naturally, those memories stay with you, it’s like moving up a grade in school you miss your previous class but Multan Sultans is a great 'family' too. I’ve only been here for a day or so but I’m already feeling good."

Team Goals vs. Personal Goals

Momin: "First and foremost the goal is for the team to become champions. That is a matter of honor for everyone; if the team wins everyone is happy. On a personal level my goal is to learn as much as possible. There are many senior bowlers here like Tabraiz Shamsi and others. My primary focus is to soak up knowledge from them."

Idols in Left-Arm Wrist Spin

Momin: "I watch Tabraiz Shamsi a lot. I have his videos saved. I also used to watch old videos of Brad Hogg. Overall, I watch all wrist spinners like Adil Rashid but I focus on Shamsi more because we are in the same category (left-arm wrist spin). There is a lot to learn from him."

The Atmosphere and Excitement of PSL

Momin: "The PSL is an exciting event for Pakistan; everyone gets hyped when it's approaching, supporting their respective teams. It feels a bit different but that’s okay. We have to follow whatever the authorities think is best."

From the looks of it, they decided to keep the same logo.

Great.... Nice to see a fresh "start":uak

Exactly. As an owner he didnt even get his main title sponsor on the teams jersey.

Guy is talking alot, but cant do basics right
He has strict principles which is he not willing to bend. He is willing to play without a sponsor even. It is the message and principle that matters.

Makes a big difference when you have a level headed, selfless captain.
The owner deserves credit for taking such a logical decision. I probably would have made Smith captain, but fact is, Ashton Turner's track-record speaks for itself. 3 BBL titles as captain is nothing to scoff at.
