Pakistan squads for Australia and Zimbabwe tours named

• PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi will unveil Pakistan’s white-ball captain in a media conference in Lahore on Sunday at 3.30pm

• Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi return for Australia matches but will be rested for the Zimbabwe tour

• Selectors have recognised standout domestic performers for the two tours as part of their strategy to build towards the ICC Champions Trophy defence

Lahore, 27 October 2024:

The Pakistan cricket selectors have announced 15-member squads for the tours of Australia and Zimbabwe, where the national side will play three ODIs and three T20Is each. The Australia tour will run from 4-18 November, while the matches in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, will be played from 24 November to 5 December.

Pakistan’s white-ball captain will be unveiled by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in a media conference in Lahore on Sunday at 3.30pm.

Babar Azam, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who were given a break from the last two Tests against England, return for the Australia matches but will be rested for the Zimbabwe tour. Similarly, Mohammad Rizwan will be available for the Australia matches and Zimbabwe ODIs, but will be rested from the Zimbabwe T20Is.

This approach follows the selectors’ rotation policy and provides opportunities to domestic performers, aligning with the team’s strategy for the ICC Champions Trophy and beyond.

Uncapped players in the ODI squad include Aamir Jamal, Arafat Minhas, Faisal Akram, Haseebullah, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Saim Ayub. Jahandad Khan and Salman Ali Agha join the T20I squad for the first time.

Kamran Ghulam, Omair Bin Yousuf and Sufyan Moqim make their national side debut, having previously played limited-overs internationals. Kamran served as a concussion substitute for Haris Sohail against New Zealand in an ODI in January 2023, while Omair and Sufyan debuted in the T20I format against Hong Kong during the Asian Games men’s cricket competition.

Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain, player of the Champions One-Day Cup in Faisalabad last month with 17 wickets, also returns to the ODI side, having last represented Pakistan in an ODI against New Zealand in January 2023.

Apart from Babar, Naseem, Rizwan, Salman, and Shaheen, four other players have been selected in both the ODI and T20I squads. They are: Arafat Minhas, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah and Muhammad Irfan Khan.

Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Faisal Akram, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, and Saim Ayub are selected solely for the ODIs and will be replaced by Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Omair Bin Yousuf, Sahibzada Farhan, Sufyan Moqim, and Usman Khan for the T20Is.

Seven ODI squad members – Babar Azam, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi – will depart for Melbourne on Monday, 28 October, with the remaining ODI players leaving on Tuesday, 29 October. Pakistan’s white-ball coach, Gary Kirsten, will join the squad in Melbourne on 28 October.

ODI SQUAD: Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah (WK), Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Shaheen Shah Afridi

Domestic performers dominate Pakistan squads for Zimbabwe ODIs and T20Is

Ahmed Daniyal, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah, Mohammad Hasnain, Muhammad Irfan Khan and Tayyab Tahir are the other players apart from Salman Ali Agha who have been selected for both the formats.

Usman Khan isn't in odi but in t20 for some reason?

Hasebullah and shaheen are useless and very useless in domestic

Bro aqib is making pakistan great again good that they are sending domestic talent and have dropped shadab khan.
No one from domestic actually got selected.

Your team of the tournament and best players from that cup haven't been selected lol

A lot of new faces.

I don't know about a few names here. If Pakistan is giving value to domestic performers in selection, thats the best thing. It will pay off i think. But Pakistan has to be patient in evaluation of these players.

Saud Shakeel dropped? Didn't he play in odi world cup? I think playing him in odis shall improve his game also in tests. His list A record is impressive too. So don't why dropped.

Where is Fakhar Zaman? He was the only genuine match winner in the top order.

I am not liking this selection. It may result in a disaster. You have to introduce new faces gradually. But here they have dropped senior and performing players like Fakhar and introduced totally a lot of new faces.

Lol so, this team will beat Australia in Australia? Forget Australia they'll be unable to win in Zimbabwe also.

I can only find the name of Haseebullah useless. WHY is he even here? He is pathetic. Where is Usman khan for ODIs.

WHere is Fakhar Zaman??

Good to See Farhan as well for T20I only, should have been there for ODIs as well.

Lol this team will beat Zimbabwe, the current team that they have sent to Zimbabwe will get smackdabbed into oblivion

Finally someone with some sense. Spot on, this squad is rubbish. One of the weakest squads that has ever been sent to Zimbabwe and frankly aus.

But ig for aus it's forgivable. You can send whatever, Aus is a goat 🫠

Arafat Minhas should have been left behind and made to play first class season don’t want him to go Shadab route

Surprised no one talking about how Zimbabar will play against Australia but won't get a chance to statpad vs. Zimbabwe... Is this truly the end of his fraudery?
Babar doesn't approve, It's aqib javed who is doing this. Babar is probably crying tears in his bedroom atm.

Previous reports showed that Babar actually wanted to rest for the Australian series and play in Zimbabwe 🤣🤣

I am amazed that Haseebullah is a parchi as well I guess otherwise he should not have been there.

Fakhar Zaman dropped??? CRACY decision. That tweet cost him the tours.

Who share these reports with you?. I advise you to not jump the gun and wait for Odi series.

Lambs to slaughter mate
The funny thing is @Nikhil_cric was talking about aussie team looking a bit weak without Travis head and I actually agreed with him and was a bit worried for this series as I don't want Australia to lose.

But after seeing this squad 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Nothing to worry about lol. Only regret is no chacha and shadab, wish they were here for extra bullying.

Yeah I mean Pakistan set up nicely for 240 scores

So looking at the ODI squad, this is the 11 I prefer:

1. Saim Ayub
2. Muhammad Rizwan (wk) - Ive said this in another post, but if Rizwan plays an ODI like a T20i (~110SR) that is great
3. Babar Azam
4. Kamran Ghulam
5. Agha Salman Ali
6. Muhammad Irfan Khan (I know next to nothing about him though)
7. Arafat Minhas (Again barely know anything)
8. Aamer Jamal
9. Naseem Shah
10. Muhammad Hasnain
11. Shaheen Shah Afridi

I don't even get it? What's even the playing combo?

1) Abdullah Shafiq
2) Saim Ayub
3) Babar Azam
4) Rizwan
5) Salman Ali Agha
6) Irfan Khan Niazi
7) Aamir Jamal
8) Shaheen
9) Naseem
10) Rauf
11) Husnain?

Or is Kamran Ghulam going to bat at no 5? 🤦🏼‍♂️.

Will Hasebullah open?

Of course KG has to work his way up to bat above Rizwan,

(Even though Rizwan had him at 3 in his Markhor’s side)

As I read it. For the first match at least. Only one of Kamran and Irfan will play. At no. 7 it seems like Jamal is going to play as they will need batting depth. But also they can't play 5 seamers. They will be eyeing to debut Faisal Akram. So one of pace bowlers will have to sit out.

I mean it's not bad, it's honestly the best playing 11. But the problem is the squad is so crap 🤣🤣🤣.

Bro this squad is crap.

Ik people have issues with fakhar especially pcb for that tweet, But you need an X factor to combat Australia.

None of these guys besides Irfan Khan niazi and fakhar showed that they can play tye aussie brand of cricket.

KG, Babar, Agha, rizwan all can't fit in one 11 for very obvious reasons, you can only opt for maximum of 2, like Australia does qith smith and Labu

Fakhar Zaman was vocal about something in one of the meetings...don't remember what it was.
I think the members have taken revenge for that as well

Who share these reports with you?. I advise you to not jump the gun and wait for Odi series.
These reports were listed on this very forumn and are publicly available bhai?

Blame other posters if their inaccurate not me.

I'm just relaying what was said by others, but if you wish to know, I trust the posters who made these claims. The people who reported this are reliable sources of information

Bro can you plz tell me who are the spinners for australia odis any spinner to watch out plz mention.

Well if they dropped Fakhar for that tweet than I can understand, just make sure to apply that rule to every player though, because hasn't there been multiple twitter controversies in last year or so? I might be wrong though

But thats a massive disappointment, I was actually really looking forward to seeing Fakhar in Australia because I dont think he has ever played an ODI in Australia

No Chacha!!! Party at my place!! All are invited but Chacha fans … u know what nvm bring Chacha fans too so we can all laugh at them

Pretty much rooting for all the young guns in the T20i series in the Zimbabwe tour (Babar and Rizwan will not feature in that)

Besides that,

All the best to Omair bin Yousuf, Kamran Ghulam, Sahibzada Farhan, Aamir Jamal, Saim Ayub, Salman Agha, Faisal Akram, Jahandad Khan

I think squad depth is good. There needs to be about 30 individuals that make up the test 11 and odi/t20 squads. Sometimes you need to have test specialists.

I notice that some key players like Noman, Sajid and Saud are missing which means they won’t play a test now till dec in South Africa. Given that we have never won a series in South Africa I’d love to see the plans we have for how to keep this core of players match ready (though spin might not make so much of an impact still Sajid and Noman are our best bowlers and Saud is suspect against high Bounce) It’s a 6 week lay off it’ll be really bad planning to throw these three into tears at the last minute.

I just realised Saud Shakeel isn't in the ODI squad - seriously?

He is one of the better batsman Pakistan has in test and ODI also. I understand SENA will be a massive challenge but in last years world cup he did play some decent innings (Netherlands, South Africa, and perhaps vs Australia) and showed a good range of shots

In description, PCB statement says Hasnainis there in ODIs only whereas they have listed squad members, for each tour seperately, Hasnain is there in Zimbabwe T 20s too

Baaqi sab jao bhaar main!
You know your priorities are messed up when the squad sent for Zimbabwe (excluding Dhani and a few others) is better then then squad pakistan sent for Australia 🤣

Can't recall a single notable T20 performance by Agha at any level ever.

And he'll most likely be announced as national team captain today
