USA’s Strikers acquire New York Strikers franchise; announce former India international Yuvraj Singh as mentor

“ Kieron Pollard comes on board as the icon player”

Abu Dhabi, 19th September, 2022: USA’s Skky Strikers announced today that they have acquired a franchise in the exciting Abu Dhabi T10, which will be called the New York Strikers. The addition of the New York Strikers to the tournament makes it an 8-team competition, with two teams joining the bandwagon from the USA. The Strikers’ franchise has had a successful stint as a cricket franchisee in USA, and hope to spread their wings in other parts of the world as well with well-known leagues such as the Abu Dhabi T10. The enigmatic left hander Yuvraj Singh has been brought onboard as the Team Mentor, he was previously been a part of the Abu Dhabi T10 league in 2019.

The Strikers franchise represents unity on and off the field and indomitable passion for cricket and is owned by Sagar Khanna, who has been extremely passionate about cricket from his childhood days. Sagar began his entrepreneurial journey in Telecommunications with Skky Group in Hicksville, New York in 2016. In terms of making his move in the world of cricket, Sagar began as a co-founder Skky Strikers and is now the sole owner of the franchise.

Elated to be part of the Abu Dhabi T10, Sagar said, “It is an extremely exciting time for our franchise as the Abu Dhabi T10 is a unique and highly competitive, bringing together elite players from across the globe. It gives us the perfect opportunity to compete against the elites of cricket and test ourselves out."

“We have had some amount of success in the USA and we are keen to carry on in that vein over here also. As a franchise, we will do whatever it takes to ensure this is a memorable tournament for our fans and the family overall.”

The franchise has brought in Kieron Pollard as their Icon player and also signed on England’s 2019 ODI World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan as their Platinum player. Azam Khan from Pakistan and Ireland’s Paul Stirling are the two Category A players signed on by the franchise.

Speaking on the signings, Sagar said, “Kieron Pollard and Eoin Morgan are among the biggest names in white-ball cricket. Both are extremely dangerous players and we have no doubt that their leadership qualities will be extremely essential for our camp going forward. Both Pollard and Morgan strike fear in the opposition team’s minds, and we like that thought.”

“Paul Stirling and Azam Khan too are a couple very destructive batters, who can turn a game on its head very rapidly. The four players represent a strong and hardworking core, which is very much along the lines of our philosophy.”

Shaji-ul-Mulk, Chairman, T10 Sports Management, added, “I am delighted to welcome on board the New York Strikers team from the USA to our Abu Dhabi T10 family. Our aim was to establish the Abu Dhabi T10 as one of the standout events on the international cricket calendar and grow our global broadcast viewership numbers which currently stand at 342 million. With the addition of the two new teams from America, we continue building on the success of the tournament as cricket's quickest format evolves at a rapid rate. We look forward to closely working with Sagar Khanna and his team as we get into our 6th season starting 23 November."

The Abu Dhabi T10 will kick off from the 23rd of November 2022 and will be a two-week long tournament that will see international cricket stars compete in a short and exciting 10 over format. The New York Strikers are the second team from USA who will be participating in the Abu Dhabi T10 and will help highlight the growing quality of cricket in America.

Samp Army. Abu Dhabi T10 is a unique and a highly competitive competition which brings together elite players from across the globe. It gives us the perfect opportunity to compete against the some of the best players in the world and test ourselves out. We are looking forward to the season and hopefully we make our fans proud back home in the USA,” added Ritesh Patel, Owner, Morrisville Samp Army.

Season 6 of the Abu Dhabi T10 tees off at the magnificent Zayed Cricket Stadium on 23rd November, with its final being played on UAE’s National Day on 4th December. Along with the six teams who have been part of the journey, two new sides from USA have joined the bandwagon with the New York Strikers and the Morrisville SAMP Army making it an eight-team extravaganza, where they will battle it out in a 10-overs a side game.

The initial Icon and Platinum Player picks and retention selections saw plenty more star power added to the eight franchises. All eight squads will take final shape at the tournament’s 2022 Official Player Draft on 26 September in Abu Dhabi, where each team will be required to select one International Emerging player and three UAE players.

Cricket’s fastest format reached 342 million television and over-the-top (OTT) digital viewers in 2021, which resulted in sponsorship values increasing by 81%. Meanwhile the viewership numbers increased by a whopping 135% from the previous edition.

The tournament’s format will have each of the eight teams playing each other once - single round robin. The top four qualifying teams will advance to the play offs, which include to qualifiers and one eliminator to decide the two finalists.

Cricket’s fastest format will return with a bang this winter, with Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Chris Lynn and David Miller all among this year’s Abu Dhabi T10 Icon Player picks.

Bravo has been retained by the Delhi Bulls, while Lynn is top of the billing for host city franchise Team Abu Dhabi. Bangla Tigers have opted for Shakib Al Hasan, Dasun Shanaka headlines the Chennai Braves squad, and two-time winners Northern Warriors have kept hold of Wanindu Hasaranga. As for reigning champions Deccan Gladiators, they’ve kept star captain Andre Russell as their Icon Player ahead of their defence of the trophy.

This year will also see the introduction of two new USA franchises; the New York Strikers and the Morrisville SAMP Army. New York Strikers have gone for Pollard as their Icon Player, while Morrisville SAMP Army have snapped up Miller.

Pollard, one of the most devastating and successful players in the history of white ball cricket, will play alongside England’s 2019 ODI World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan at New York Strikers, who clearly mean business with their top two picks.

Over at Morrisville SAMP Army, recent IPL winner with the Gujarat Titans, Miller, is joined by compatriot - and tearaway quick - Anrich Nortje as their Platinum player, with Moeen Ali and Shimron Hetmyer also signed up.

Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman T10 Sports Management said: “I am pleased to welcome on board the Morrisville Samp Army and New York Strikers from USA to our Abu Dhabi T10 family. Our aim for the league was to establish the Abu Dhabi T10 as one of the standout events on the international cricket calendar and grow our global broadcast viewership numbers which currently stand at 342 million. With the addition of the two new teams from Americas, we continue building on the success of the tournament as cricket's fastest format continues to evolve at a rapid rate across continents.

“We’re proud to assemble this star cast of players as the Icon and Platinum players for this season and hope to see the fans back into the stadium for the 6th edition of the tournament.”

Sagar Khanna, Owner New York Strikers: “I am elated to be part of the T10 journey and I’m really looking forward to this season and more. The New York Strikers will put their best foot forward to meet the passion of the Abu Dhabi T10. We hope that the team can go all the way, and they will have all the support from the management in that endeavour. The Abu Dhabi T10 is among the best events in the cricket calendar and I’m sure that the New York Strikers will add even more colour to the tournament.”

“It is a start of a new and exciting chapter for Samp Army.

Bangla Tigers have retained Iftikhar, Pathirana and Rohan Mustafa for their 2023 season of T10 league. Good retention in my opinion. Iktikhar is in good touch and Pathirna with his slingy action can do good as well.

Abu Dhabi 10 Season 7 Kick off Deccan Gladiators will play New York Strikers in the first fixture

In anticipation of another explosive season of cricket's fastest format, Abu Dhabi T10 2023 edition, announced the captains for the season at a press conference held in Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. West Indies heavy hitter Nicholas Pooran, who led Deccan Gladiators to a title win in the previous edition has been retained as a Captain by the defending Champions for the upcoming seventh edition, which will take place between November 28th and December 9th.

Meanwhile, the runners-up of last season New York Strikers and Morrisville Samp Army will also continue with veteran allrounders Kieron Pollard and Moeen Ali as Captains, respectively.

The remaining teams made a change in leadership as Sikandar Raza handed over the reins for The Chennai Braves to Charith Asalanka, whilst Northern Warriors named Angelo Mathews as Captain, and Delhi Bulls named Rovman Powell as skipper for the season. Team Abu Dhabi picked Dwaine Pretorius to lead the side whilst Bangla Tigers made a surprise pick in Benny Howell as Captain.

All the Captains, in attendance at the Press Conference made their intentions clear for the season.

“It was a good season for me the last time around, and I was happy to contribute to the team’s success, not only as Captain but also as a batsman. Our target this year is to retain the trophy and we will continue to play the kind of cricket we like to play. It would be an honour for me to lead Gladiators to a record third title this time around. I am ready to take up any role the team wants me to,” Pooran said.

Presently, Gladiators and Northern Warriors are the only two teams to have won two titles. The Warriors have made a strong choice in Mathews as skipper, who has been one of the most successful Captains for Sri Lanka in international cricket.

“I am grateful to be considered to lead Northern Warriors, a franchise that has already achieved massive success in this league. Warriors have already won two trophies and I would love to bring the trophy back to the team so that we all can script history together. This is an exciting format, and the fans can expect big things from our side in the 7th season,” Mathews said.

Meanwhile, Strikers and Morrisville will look to use Pollard and Moeen’s familiarity with the format once again to boost their chances of getting their hands on the trophy. Pollard said he wants to finish the job this season.

“We came so close to winning the title last season, but the final was a lesson for us. We now know the temperament that is needed in big matches, and we will look to use that knowledge to our advantage. We have a solid squad, and we are ready to go all the way this time,” he said.

Moeen Ali said that such a quick format is a test of players’ skills. “While one may feel that T10 is all about big shots, and heavy hitting, it is also about recognising and adapting to situations quickly and efficiently when you are out there. In such a short time, anything can happen. We must be ready for Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C and if we do that, we will be in a good position to win the whole thing.”

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka top-order batter Asalanka will be leading the side in place for Raza, and he admitted he has big shoes to fill. “Sikandar Raza enjoys a massive fan following and support in this part of the world. I am excited to take over the reins as Captain for the Braves and will look forward to leading the team. We must take one game at a time, but our goal is to make the playoffs and set ourselves up for a chance to play in the all-important Final.”

Delhi’s choice of giving Captaincy to Powell is another interesting move as the West Indies batting allrounder led Northern Warriors last season and scored 196 runs in 7 matches at a whopping strike rate of 245. “I was in good form in the previous edition and also gained experience in leading a team in this format. Now, with a new squad and a new franchise, I am even more motivated to perform. We want to see Delhi Bulls get their hands on the trophy once again – and we must stick to our plans in in order to do so,” Powell said.

Team Abu Dhabi decided to put their stocks on bowlers during the draft, and backing their bowling unit, named South Africa speedster Pretorius as the Captain
“This is a good chance for me to change the mindset that short formats are only for the batters.

The bowlers also have an equally important role to play, especially fast bowlers who start the attack with the new ball. They have very little time to get used to the track and implement their plans and get crucial wickets in the first three overs, and that is what we will try to do in every game,” Pretorious said.

Bangla Tigers, meanwhile, have named veteran English domestic talent Benny Howell and are banking on his experience to make their way into the top four. “I am delighted to lead Bangla Tigers as Captain this year. It is an important year for us – as we want to make it to top four. We have an impeccable squad, but we will have to work together as a collective unit. If we can all perform to our abilities, we are hard to beat,” he signed off.

ABU DHABI T10 2023 KICKS OFF IN STYLE!

TOM-KOHLER CADMORE'S 27-BALL FIFTY SEALS MASSIVE WIN FOR DECCAN GLADIATORS OVER NEW YORK STRIKERS

Abu Dhabi, 28th November 2023: Deccan Gladiators continued their winning run over New York Strikers in the glitzy opening encounter of the 7th edition of Abu Dhabi T10. The night saw enthralling dance performances, a glamourous fashion show, and with a memorable performance from Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who smashed an unbeaten 68 off 33 balls to help the defending Champions to their first win to kick off the season.

The excitement engulfed the Sheikh Zayed Stadium as the Gladiators stepped out to bat on a surface covered with a nice patch of grass. The cool winds in the city only made the conditions perfect for cricket. Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman, T10 Sports Management, declared the tournament open with a motivating speech and the action began in Abu Dhabi. Pollard-led New York Strikers strategically opted to bowl first.

Unleashing Mohammad Amir to use the swing offered by the surface, the Strikers shackled the openers Nicholas Pooran and Kohler-Cadmore. Pooran's early dismissal by pacer Muhammad Jawadullah made things trickier for the Champions. With runs hard to come by, pressure built on Gladiators that led to Andre Fletcher getting run out after a horrible mix-up.

The dynamic Andre Russell began counter-attacking with innovative shots. But a failed big hit from the power-hitter on Ali Khan's off-cutter landed straight in Pollard's hands. Not letting the momentum slip away, Kohler-Cadmore struck Sunil Narine for two sixes in the next over. Chamika Karunaratne handed a double whammy to Gladiators on consecutive deliveries, but Kohler-Cadmore waged a lone battle, and hammered a 27-ball fifty. The England batter's brave innings led Gladiators to 118/8 in 10 overs.

As Strikers began their chase, left-arm speedster Trent Boult handed Deccan Gladiators their first blow, dismissing the dangerous Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Kusal Perera tried to counter-attack after the dismissal, but fast bowler Zahoor Khan picked his wicket to put his side in control. As the Gladiators missed three simple catches in the first couple of overs, the momentum slipped away.

The defending Champions brought in substitute Nuwan Thushara to replace Kohler-Cadmore under Impact Player rule. As per the rule, Thushara was allowed to bowl, but the right-arm speedster was struck for boundaries by Muhammad Waseem. His fiery innings came to an end in the next over by Luke Wood with Imad Wasim finally catching one. As Asif Ali held one end, skipper Kieron Pollard stepped out to provide some momentum in the steep run-chase. With 36 needed off the final 2 overs, Ali and Pollard were dismissed in quick succession. Gladiators sealed the win by 22 runs.

Asif Ali playing too…has he also retired from Pakistan??

Northern Warriors beat Samp Army by 9 runs.

Northern Warriors 103/5 (10) - Colin Munro 36 Runs not out off 15 balls, Qais Ahmed 2 Wickets for 12 Runs
Samp Army 94/8 (10) - Moeen Ali 37 Runs off 23 Balls, Angelo Mathews 3 Wickets for 19 Runs

I can’t believe this is how we treat the potential captains of Pakistan!
Hahah and then you realise, it's Asif Ali. This hack has struggled in domestics this season where most of the players were picked off the streets.

In the second game of the day, Northern Warriors rode on skipper Angelo Mathews' hat-trick to get an 18-run win over Morrisville Samp Army. Afghanistan spinner Qais Ahmad bowled a remarkable spell for Morrisville, getting 2 wickets in 2 overs, giving just 12 away to restrict the Warriors to a modest total of 103/5 in 20 overs.

Despite a phenomenal start to the chase by Andries Gous (15 off 7), Morrisville Samp Army stuttered after James Neesham struck two wickets in a single over. Veteran skipper Moeen Ali settled down his side with the bat to momentarily shift the tide of the game. But Mathews picked the 7th hat-trick in T10 history to seal the win for his side.

This tourament looks like a joke to me. Saw 10 minutes of it, no one showing any urgency in field, no crowd and just get the impression that the players don't really care. Anyway, let's see how it plays out.

T10 is a joke. I agree.

I just hope ICC will not make it an official format. We already have a nonsense called T20 and don't need more nonsenses.

Quinton de Kock leads Delhi Bulls charge with unbeaten half century to override Deccan Gladiators’ impressive target

Abu Dhabi : 29th November 2023: Delhi Bulls displayed their batting strength to overcome Deccan Gladiators’ challenging score of 120 for 2 in 10 overs to win the third match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium by nine wickets with nine balls to spare.

The architects of Delhi Bulls’ victory were Quinton De Kock, who carried his form from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, to remain unbeaten on 50 off 26 balls with three boundaries and four sixes. He put on 73 runs opening partnership with Johnson Charles, who smashed 36 off 13 balls with five boundaries and two sixes. Skipper Rovman Powell chipped in with 31 runs off 12 balls with five boundaries and a six.

Deccan Gladiators’ 120 for 2 in ten overs was carved out of Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s another fine knock. Fresh from his match winning unbeaten 68 runs in the opening match against New York Strikers, he hit 42 off 21 balls with five boundaries and three sixes. His opening partner Andre Fletcher too scored 34 and together they set the stage for an impressive total with 64 runs opening partnership in 5.3 overs. It was difficult to imagine that such a total would turn out to be an easy target for the might Delhi Bulls.

Deccan Gladiators’ skipper Nicholas Pooran had won the toss and elected to bat. Pooran fielded an unchanged team that had beaten New York Strikers in their opening match.

The day’s action began with Kohler-Cadmore opening with Andre Fletcher. Afghanistan left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, opening the attack, gave away only three runs. The first ball of the second over from Lancashire right arm medium pacer Richard Gleeson was hit over long-off for the first six of the day by Fletcher.

Kohler-Cadmore hit two consecutive boundaries off Gleeson to take 17 runs off that over. The third over saw Kohler-Cadmore go for the big shots and hit two consecutive sixes off Pakistan right-arm pacer Muhammad Rohid from the first two deliveries. The next two deliveries too were hit for boundaries. Twenty-one runs came off that over. Big hitting continued in the fourth over too with Naveen-Ul-Haq being greeted by Kohler-Cadmore with a six and a boundary off the first two balls. The 50-runs partnership came in 3.2 overs.

Then veteran pacer Dwayne Bravo was introduced for the fifth over. He gave away just two runs, and at the half way mark, Deccan Gladiators scored 58 for no loss.

Fletcher produced an elegant cover drive off Naveen Ul Haq’s first delivery of the sixth over. Naveen struck with the third ball by ending Kohler-Cadmore’s knock by having him caught by Usman Khan at the long-off boundary for 42. His knock off 21 balls had five boundaries and three sixes.

Skipper Pooran pulled the first ball he faced from Naveen for a six. The seventh over from Fazalhaq saw Powell pull off a spectacular save to a Fletcher’s shot aimed for a six. Powell leaped in the air, caught the ball and threw it back into the field. This could not stop Pooran from flicking Fazalhaq for a six. Gleeson bowled a good eighth over giving away just two runs, but the effect of that was nullified in the ninth over with two towering sixes off Muhammad Rohid. The second six over mid-wicket sailed out of the ground. Fletcher got run out for 34 attempting a cheeky single to Rohid. His 20-ball knock had one boundary and three sixes.

Bravo was introduced for the last over but Andre Russell flicked the first ball for a boundary. He hit the next over the covers for a six. The third ball too was smashed for another six over deep square leg. Twenty-one runs were scored off that over and Deccan Gladiators posted an impressive 120 for 2 in 10 overs.

Delhi Bulls spectacular chase

Needing to score at a run rate of 12 per over, Delhi Bulls opener Quinton de Kock and Johnson Charles began aggressively taking 11 runs off Trent Boult’s first over. Charles hit a boundary and a six off the fifth and sixth delivery. De Kock began by pulling Zahir Khan for a six and a boundary off the next. He slog swept the third ball for a six over mid-wicket cover drove the fourth four a boundary.

Thirty-two runs from the first two overs was the ideal start for a good chase. De Kock also hit Wasim over long-on for his third six. Charles punished Zahoor Khan hitting an effortless boundary over the covers. He also slashed him over the slip for another boundary. Their 50-runs partnership came in 3.3 overs. He scooped the fourth ball for yet another boundary. The fifth ball was hit over the deep point for a six and the last delivery too went racing to the third man boundary. Twenty-three runs came off that over. The onslaught resulted in only 54 runs being needed in 35 balls.

Although Luke Wood got steered for a boundary by De Kock, Wood struck back by yorking Charles for 36. His 13-ball knock had five boundaries and two sixes. Next man Rovman Powell took up the challenge and smashed Boult to the long on boundary and also hit him over gully for another four. The last two deliveries of that over too were hit for consecutive boundaries to take 17 runs off that over. So aggressive were the batters that only 23 runs were needed in the last 18 balls.

Delhi Bulls went past the 100 run mark in 7.2 overs. De Kock hit his fourth six off Imad Wasim and went on to reach his half century in 26 balls. Powell hit the winning shot - a six off Fabian Allen over long-on and won the match with nine balls to spare.

Northern Warriors’ openers Kennar Lewis, Hazratullah Zazai whip Team Abu Dhabi’s attack for a ten-wicket win

Northern Warriors opener Kennar Lewis and Hazratullah Zazai thrashed Team Abu Dhabi’s bowling attack to breeze to a ten-wicket win with one over to spare in the sixth match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Northern Warriors, after winning toss and electing to bowl, restricted Abu Dhabi to 103 for 7 in 10 overs with Tabraiz Shamsi leading the tight bowling attack with two wickets for 17 runs. Lewis and Zazai batted smoothly, hitting sixes and boundaries with ease. Lewis remained unbeaten on 46 off 27 balls with five boundaries and two sixes, while Zazai, who started slowly, went on to crack an unbeaten 52 off 27 balls with five boundaries and three sixes.

Tale of Abu Dhabi’s innings

England’s Alex Hales and Tom Banton opened the innings for Team Abu Dhabi. Angelo Mathews, fresh from his hat-trick spell in his last match against Samp Army, bowled a tight opening over giving away just three runs. UAE’s Angur Sanghwan who bowled the second over would have got Banton out for 6 had Kennar Lewis at mid-off managed to hold on to a tough mis-hit shot. Banton celebrated his luck by hitting the next two deliveries for boundaries to take 15 runs off that over.

Banton greeted Azmatullah Omarzai with a six in the third over. He also pulled the fifth ball of that over for another six. When runs were flowing smoothly, Tabraiz Shamsi struck with the fourth ball of the fourth over by getting Banton caught by Hazratullah Zazai at deep mid-wicket. His knock of 33 runs from 17 balls had three boundaries and two sixes.

Hales carried on his big hit with Colin Ingram even pulling James Neesham effortlessly for a six. That took Abu Dhabi past the 50-run mark in 4.2 overs. India’s Abhimanyu Mithun gave away only a boundary and also picked the wicket of Ingram, caught by Mathews at long off for 10 in the sixth over.

Now Team Abu Dhabi needed some big hits. Leus du Plooy, fresh from his unbeaten knock of 47 against Chennai Braves, got out to a duck to Neesham, caught by Lewis at long-on. When only three more overs were left, Hales too got out to Shamsi, caught by Zazai at deep-mid-wicket for 20.

UAE’s Asif Khan hit Shamsi for a six to deep mid-wicket. Dwaine Pretorius fell to Mathews hitting high to Colin Munro at covers for 2. UAE’s Alishan Sharafu smashed Mathews over the cover for a six. A top edge from Asif went for a six to third man off Azmatullah. Ultimately, he got run out to the second ball of the last over for 19. Azmatullah then trapped Sharafu leg before for 9. Roelof van der Merwe sliced the last ball of the innings to the third man boundary to take the score past the 100-run mark.

Northern Warriors aggressive chase

Chasing the gettable target of 104 runs, Northern Warrior’s opener Lewis began aggressively. He hit Binura Fernando for 15 runs in the first over that included three boundaries. He also lofted Rumman Raees over mid-off for a boundary. James Fuller, who bowled the third over, was also hit to the fine leg boundary and a six over mid-wicket. Lewis hardly gave Zazai the strike and scored 32 out of the 35 runs on board by the end of the third over.

Northern Warriors reached the 50-run mark with a mighty six by Lewis to mid-wicket off Pretorius. Zazai who played second fiddle, hit Raees for a straight boundary. With only 35 runs needed from 24 balls, Zazai hit his second six off Noor Ahmad. He went on to overtake Lewis with a boundary and a six off Pretorius to reach his half century in 27 balls.

Samp Army overcome Chennai's brave fightback to win by seven wickets and one ball to spare

30th November 2023, Abu Dhabi: Chennai Braves gave Samp Army the jitters before bowing to a seven-wicket defeat with one ball to spare in a hard fought seventh match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Braves, whose top order crumbled to 27 for 6, fought back through their skipper Charith Asalanka (31) and UAE’s Aayan Afzal Khan (19n.o) to put on a 49 runs partnership for the seventh wicket. This gave them a total of 97 for 7.

Braves bravely battled to check Samp Army’s run flow despite fine knocks from openers Andries Gous (43) and Faf du Plessis (31). The match hung in balance till the fifth ball of the last over when Najibulllah Zadran hit a six to win the match.

Chennai Braves top order crash

Chennai Braves won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a shock start losing opener Jason Roy, who had cracked an unbeaten 84 in their previous match to Team Abu Dhabi, for 1. He played Jason Holder on to his wicket. In the next over, one-drop George Munsey got out for a duck to Karim Janat. Munsey hit high to Holder in the covers.

Opener Kobe Herft hit Qais Ahmed for a six and a boundary in the third over but fell to the last ball of that over for 20. Holder caught him at long-on through a diving catch. Moeen Ali struck twice in the fifth over. Chennai Braves first lost Stephen Eskinazi run out for 4. Ali then got Mohammad Nabi caught by Muhammad Irfan at short fine leg for a duck. He also removed Kai Smith, caught by Hatzoglou at deep mid-wicket for a duck.

At the half way mark, the Chennai Braves score board read a pathetic 27 for 6. UAE’s Ayaz Afzal Khan picked a boundary off Hatzoglou to push the score to 36 by the end of the sixth over. Skipper Charith Asalanka hit Moeen Ali for two consecutive boundaries and a six to see their team total go past the 50-run mark. Aslanka did not spare Salman Irshad too who bowled the eighth over to hit a six to long leg off the first ball and another six over mid-wicket off the last ball.

Afzal picked a boundary off Karim Janat but Asalank got caught by Qais Ahmad to the fourth ball of that over at deep mid-wicket for 31. His 13-ball knock had two boundaries and three sixes. He had put on 49 runs for the seventh wicket with Afzal. In the last over, Bhanuka Rajapaksa hit Salman Irshad for a six over long-off and a boundary to backward square leg, and remain unbeaten on 15.

Afzal Khan remained unconquered on 19. For a team that was tottering at 27 for 6, it was remarkable that they could post three runs short of the 100 run mark.

Army’s quick start and tense finish

Samp Army’s march towards the target began with opener Andries Gous and Faf du Plessis picking one boundary each from the first two overs. Du Plessis then elegantly pulled Obed McCoy for a boundary in the third over. Gous picked his second boundary off Sam Cook. Plessis hit the first six of the innings off Cook over long on. He hit two more sixes off Afzal Khan to mid-wicket to take the score past the 50 runs mark by the fifth over.

Mohammad Nabi ended De Plessis’s knock by having him caught by Munsey at long-off for 31. His knock off 16 balls had one boundary and three sixes. Moeen Ali joined Gouis but lasted only six balls to score eight runs before being bowled by Junaid Siddique.

With thirty runs needed off the last 18 balls, Gous hit Nabi for a six to long-on. Najibullah Zadran joined Gous and made it 17 runs off 12 balls. Gous then hit Afzal Khan for his second six, but got run out to a fine direct throw from Asalanka at covers for 43. His knock off 26 balls had three boundaries and two sixes.

With eight runs needed off the last over, McCoy began the last over with a wide and then bowled a dot ball. A slower ball yielded no run and the third ball yielded just one run. Off the fourth they got only a bye. When the crowd moved towards the edge of their seats, Zadran hit a six to mid-wicket and won the match for his team with one ball to spare.

Jordan Cox’s scintillating unbeaten 90 helps Bangla Tigers leap over Deccan Gladiators

Abu Dhabi, 30th Nov 2023: Kent County team wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox stole the thunder by scoring a scintillating unbeaten 90 and guiding Bangla Tigers to an impressive 20 runs win over Deccan Gladiators in the eighth match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. His knock studded with eight boundaries and six sixes gave Bengal Tigers a whopping total of 143 for 4 in 10 overs.

Cox along with Dasun Shanaka (25n.o) put on an unbeaten 110 runs off 39 balls for the fifth wicket. It was a treat to watch this pair thrash the Deccan Gladiators bowlers. The reputed Gladiator’s batters took up the challenge through their skipper Nicholas Pooran’s 41 of 17 balls with three boundaries and four sixes and Fabian Allen’s unbeaten 40 off 16 balls with five sixes and a boundary. However, their efforts were not enough to take their team to the target, and they got restricted to 123 for 2. A total of 266 runs were scored by both teams in a run feast for the spectators.

Earlier, Deccan Gladiators had won the toss and elected to field. Bangla Tigers openers Chris Lynn fell to the third ball of the first over clean bowled by Luke Wood for a duck. One-drop Kusal Mendis hit the first ball he faced for a boundary to fine leg. In the second over, while Cox picked a boundary off Trent Boult, Mendis hit a six over deep square leg.

When it looked like the impact of the early blow had been overcome, Mendis fell caught by Wood at deep square leg off Nuwan Thushara for 19. Thushara also got David Miller out to the next ball, clean bowling him through his defence. Worse was to follow as Andre Russell had Daniel Sams caught by wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran for a duck in the fourth over.

Cool Cox’s spectacular show

Undaunted by the fall of wickets at the other end, Cox went for his shots. He hit Zahoor Khan for two sixes to ensure a score of 53 for 4 at the half way mark. Cox continued his big hits and scored a six through a reverse sweep off Imad Wasim to third man. He also picked a boundary off Wasim to deep mid-wicket.

Thushara was introduced for the second time to bowl the seventh over. Cox hit him to deep midwicket for another boundary. He also reverse-swept the fourth ball for a boundary and reached his half century in 24 balls with the third boundary of the over.

Dasun Shanaka, who played second fiddle, hit Zahoor for two consecutive sixes and a boundary. Bengal Tigers reached the 100 run mark in 7.3 overs. Zahoor trapped Shanaka leg before with the fourth ball but the replay showed he had overstepped the line. Cox hit Wood for his fourth six off the first ball of the ninth over and also hit the fourth ball for another six and ended that over with a boundary.

In the last over too, Cox continued his onslaught hitting Boult for a boundary to mid-on and a six to mid-wicket. He also hit the last ball from Boult through the covers for his eighth boundary to remain unbeaten on 90.

Pooran and Allen’s brilliant chase

Deccan Gladiators’ consistent opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore began the chase with a six off the first over from Josh Little over backward square leg. Andre Fletcher hit the last ball of that over for a six over deep mid-wicket. Haider Ali removed Kohler-Cadmore with the first ball of the second over by having him caught by Little at gully for 8.

Fletcher hit his second six and also a boundary off the last two balls of the over.

Skipper Nicholas Pooran began his onslaught in the third over by hitting Rohan Mustafa for a boundary off the first ball and then scoring two sixes off the third and fourth deliveries. Twenty-one runs were taken off that over. Deccan Gladiators went past the 50 run mark in 3.2 overs through a six by Pooran off Drakes. He also hit the third ball effortlessly for another six over the extra cover. Drakes struck by having Fletcher caught by Cox at mid-off for 17.

Andre Russell joined Pooran who was in full flow. At the half way mark, Gladiators were 71 for 2, needing anoter 73 runs to win. Daniel Sams picked the valuable wicket of Pooran, caught by Mustafa at deep mid-wicket for 41. His 17-ball knock had three boundaries and four sixes. Fabian Allen began by hitting Sams for two sixes to maintain the run flow.

Drakes bowled a brilliant seventh over giving away just one boundary. Needing 52 runs more for 18 balls, Allen hit Brathwaite for a boundary to deep mid-wicket. There was only o e boundary in that over. These two overs helped Bangla Tigers take a firm grip on the match.

The required run rate jumped to 22.50 with 45 runs needed off the last 12 balls. Little, who bowled the ninth over, gave away just three runs. With an impossible 42 runs needed off the last over, Allen hit Sams for two consecutive sixes off the first two deliveries; it was more like the last flicker of a dying chase.

NEW YORK STRIKERS WIN LOW-SCORING INTENSE BATTLE OVER NORTHERN WARRIORS

A spirited bowling display by New York Strikers restricted Northern Warriors to 88 for 3 in 10 overs. Northern Warriors, however, refused to surrender easily and fought till the last over before losing the match by three wickets with only five balls remaining in the ninth match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Northern Warriors total of 88 was mainly through Colin Munro, who hit an unbeaten 44 off 27 balls with three boundaries and three sixes. Though New York Strikers thought it would be an easy win, wickets began to fall regularly. Led by Northern Warriors’ skipper Angelo Mathews, Abhimanyu Mithin and Tabraiz Shamsi , each of them picked two wickets to almost pull off an exciting win.

Muhammad Waseem (23) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (22) played a vital role in this well fought New York Strikers’ win. This defeat snapped Northern Warrior’s run of two consecutive victories.

The low scoring battle

New York Strikers won the toss and elected to bowl. Northern Warriors’ hard-hitting opening pair of Kennar Lewis and Hazratullah Zazai , that had put on a 106 runs partnership in their last match to record a ten-wicket win over Team Abu Dhabi, lasted only five balls. Akeal Hosein had Lewis clean bowled for 4.

One-drop Colin Munro joined Zazai, who edged Mohammad Amir for a boundary to third man. Amir gave away only one boundary in that over. Sunil Narine too bowled a tight third over giving away only six runs. The first six of the day came off Munro’s bat off Karunaratne over fine leg. Zazai also hit a boundary off Karunaratne. Still runs did not come at the rate at which Northern Warriors had hoped for.

Narine was re-introduced for the fifth over and all that Munro could manage was a boundary. At the half way mark, Northern Warriors could post only 34 for 1. The tight bowling continued with Karunaratne bowling a miserly sixth over giving away just four runs and the score board read an unimpressive 38 for 1 with only four more overs to go.

Muhammad Jawadullah made it tougher by having Zazai clean bowled for 17 with the fifth ball of the seventh over. Northern Warriors’ score went past the 50-run mark only off the first ball of the the eighth over through Munro’s six off Amir over the covers. He also cut Amir’s fifth delivery for another six over third man. Eighteen runs came off that over. Sunil Narine did not pick any wicket but gave away only 11 runs in his two overs and that strangled the run flow.

James Neesham hit two consecutive boundaries off Jawadullah off the second and third deliveries. Munro hit the fifth and sixth deliveries for boundaries to take another 18 runs off the ninth over. The last over was bowled by George Scrimshaw. He had Neesham caught by Asif Ali at long-on for 10 with the third delivery and gave away just six runs in the final over to restrict Northern Warriors to 88 for 3 in 10 overs. Munro remained unbeaten on 44 off 27 balls with three boundaries and three sixes.

Tough ride towards the target

Having to score only at run rate of 8.80 per over, New York Strikers’ openers Muhammad Waseem and Rahmanullah Gurbaz began by scoring nine runs off Mathews’ first over. The second over from Abhimanyu Mithun saw Waseem pick a boundary and a six. By the end of the third over, New York Strikers were at a commanding 35 for no loss.

Tabraiz Shamsi, who bowled the fourth over, had Waseem caught by Adam Hose at deep mid-wicket while attempting a slog shot for 23. Kusal Perera joined Gurbaz and steered the score past the 50-run mark in 4.5 overs. At the half way mark, New York Strikers needed only 36 runs more from the remain five overs.

Shamsi struck again in the sixth over to clean bowl Gurbaz for 22. Skipper Kieron Pollard hit Shamsi to deep mid-wicket for a boundary but fell in the next over mistiming a pull into the hands of Omarzai at square leg off Mithun for 5. Perera hit Mithun for a boundary to mid-wicket but pulled the next into the hands of Hose for 8.

With 22 runs needed in 18 balls, Mathews struck to get Odean Smith pull to Neesham for 1. Though Asif Ali picked a boundary off Mathews’fourth delivery, he got out caught by Munro at covers to the fifth ball for 5. The intelligent over from Mathews, who gave away only seven runs to take two wickets, made it 15 needed off 12 balls.

Samp Army posted an impressive 118 for 5 through knocks of 29 runs each from Faf du Plessis and Karim Janat. Jason Holder too hit a quick unbeaten 29. Team Abu could muster only 83 for 8 with Holder bagging three wickets for 12 runs and Moeen Ali with two wickets for four runs. It was Abu Dhabi’s third consecutive defeat from three matches.

Team Abu Dhabi won the toss and elected to field. Samp Army opener Ibrahim Zadran went for his shots right away and hit opening bowler Kyle Mayers for two boundaries and a six in the first over and took 17 runs off the over.

In the eighth over. Holder hit a boundary and Janat a six off Noor Ahmad to swell the total. Janat also hit Raees’s first ball of the ninth over for a six.

Mills struck with the first ball of the last over to have Janat caught by Leus du Plooy at deep mid-wicket for 29. Holder remained unbeaten on 29 off just ten balls with two boundaries and three sixes. Nineteen came of that over and Samp Army posted a total of 118 for 5.

Chasing a run rate of over 11 runs needed a good start but opener Kyle Mayers fell to the first ball of the innings, caught and bowled by Holder. The second over saw Hales hit a boundary off Peter Hatzoglou to short fine leg but fell to the third ball, brilliantly stumped by wicketkeeper Monak Patel for 4.

Patel produced another spectacular stumping to get Leus du Plooy out for 4. Du Plooy went for a reverse sweep off Qais Ahmed after moving out of the crease but missed the delivery for Patel to do the rest.

The next to go was Banton sweeping Moeen Ali in the air to Najibullah Zadran for 16. Patel produced his third stumping off Ali to dismiss Colin Ingram for 2, Ingram went for a slog sweep and missed the delivery for Patel to remove the bails. By the end of the fourth over, half the Abu Dhabi team was back in the dug-out for 38 runs.

The fall of wickets continued in the sixth over when Asif Khan got caught behind by Patel off Salman Irshad for 4. Team Abu Dhabi could muster only 78 for 5 in 10 overs and crashed to their fourth defeat in four matches. Leus du Plooy (25) and Colin Ingram (19) put on a 41 runs partnership for the fourth wicket to give some respect to their total.

Deccan Gladiators’ brilliant batting show

Team Abu Dhabi won the toss and elected to bowl. The innings started with Deccan Gladiators opener and skipper Nicholas Pooran hitting the first ball of the match from Roelof van der Merwe for a six over long-off. He went on to pick two consecutive boundaries off the third and fourth deliveries and also slog swept the last delivery for a six to take 20 runs off that over.

Rumman Raees bowled a good second over giving only a boundary to Pooran. Tom Kohler-Cadmore escaped being caught behind by wicketkeeper Tom Banton off Tymal Mills’ at his score of 2 while attempting a big shot to the leg side but edging it behind in the process. Mills too gave away only seven runs.

Raees picked the valuable wicket of Pooran by trapping him leg before with the second ball of the fourth over for 30. Pooran attempted to flick but missed the ball completely. His knock off 17 balls had three boundaries and two sixes.

Raees struck again with the very next ball to have Andre Russell caught behind by Banton. Andre Fletcher denied Raees a hat-trick and got off the mark with a single. Kohler Cadmore hit a boundary off the fifth ball to mid-off. Raaes gave away only seven runs but picked two wickets.

Skipper Dwaine Pretorious introduced himself for the fifth over. Kohler-Cadmore hit him for a boundary and a six off successive deliveries to take 20 runs off that over. At the half way mark, Deccan Gladiators had posted 62 for 2. Andre Fletcher hit Noor Ahmad for two consecutive sixes – one to mid-wicket and another over extra cover. Another dismal show from Abu Dhabi

Kyle Mayers and Alex Hales began Abu Dhabi’s chase towards the steep target getting just one run off the first over from Luke Wood. Nuwan Thushara clean bowled Mayers who attempted to hit across the line with the second ball of the second over for 1. Team Abu Dhabi managed just one run in the second over and lost a wicket too.

Banton managed to hit the first boundary of their innings off the fifth ball from Wood. Still, only seven runs came from that over. The fourth over saw the fall of Hales hitting to Allen at mid-wicket for 8.

Trent Boult who was introduced for the fifth over had Banton out for 4, caught by Pooran at extra cover. ColinIngram hit a six off Boult’s fifth delivery. The score board at that point read a pathetic 26 for 3, needing another 116 runs from the remaining five overs.

Leus du Plooy hit Mohammad Zahid for two consecutive boundaries while Ingram picked two more boundaries in the same over. Ingram got out flicking Nuwan Thushara in the eight over to Boult for 19. Will say the Abu Dhabi ground is very very pretty! They should have more games there vs Dubai or Sharjah. Even the crowd size seemed decent for a meaningless T20 game..

28-year-old left-arm medium bowler Wasim Akram played for Delhi Bulls today in Abu Dhabi T10 league 2023. I'm sure he would be a big fan of the Sultan of Swing.

Today marked a historic moment in the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2023 as the Delhi Bulls were bowled out for 31 runs by the New York Strikers in just 9.3 overs.

Pakistani speedster Mohammad Amir shone for the New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2023 against the Delhi Bulls, securing 1 wicket while conceding only 5 runs in a single over. This remarkable performance played a pivotal role in the New York Strikers' victory by 67 runs.

Notably, the score of 31 by the Delhi Bulls stands as the lowest in the history of the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

New York Strikers’ Hosein and Karunaratne bowl out Delhi Bulls for lowest score in Abu Dhabi T10 history

Akeal Hosein and Chamika Karunaratne bowled out Delhi Bulls for a paltry 31 runs in 9.3 overs to give New York Strikers a thunderous 67 runs victory in the 18th match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. Delhi Bulls’ total was the lowest ever in Abu Dhabi T10 history displacing Northern Warriors 46 all out against Qalandars in 2019.

Though Delhi Bulls restricted New York Strikers to 98 for 4 in 10 overs despite Rahmanulla Gurbaz’s unbeaten 49 and Odean Smith’s unconquered 25, they put on an embarrassing batting display. Four of their batters got out for duck, and except for Ravi Bopara (16) none of the other batters reached double figures. Hosein returned with figures of 3 for 7 while Karunarate bagged three wickets for 6 runs.

New York Strikers also displaced Delhi Bulls from the top of the table to clinch the top slot. Bulls who began with three consecutive victories were also defeated by Samp Army in their last match and have slipped to the third slot.

New York’s batting star Gurbaz’s unbeaten 49 had come off 24 balls with two boundaries and five sixes. He dedicated his fighting knock to his elder brother. Smith’s unbeaten 25 was scored off 15 balls with one boundary and two sixes. Gurbaz and Smith had put on an unbeaten 67 runs off 27 balls for the fifth wicket.

Brief scores:

Gubraz carries New York’s innings with unbeaten 49

Delhi Bulls won the toss and elected to bowl. Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled a brilliant first over giving away just three runs to New York Strikers openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mark Deyal. He even beat his Afghanistan teammate Gurbaz twice with his moving deliveries. Deyal hit Naveen Ul Haq for a boundary to mid-on and a six over mid-wicket but fell to the fifth ball of the second over. Naveen forced Dayal to hit into the hands of his skipper Rovman Powell at mid-on for 11.

Wasim Akram took the valuable wicket of consistent Muhammad Waseem with the third ball of the third over trapping him leg before for 1. Waseem made the mistake of playing across the line. With the fifth ball, Akram also got Kusal Perera caught by Fazalhaq at short third man for 2. Akram gave away just two runs and took two wickets in that over.

Richard Gleeson was introduced for the fourth over and he yielded just five runs. Gurbaz hit Akram for two sixes off the third and fourth ball of the fifth over. Still at the the half way mark, New York could record only 35 for 3.

The age-less Dwayne Bravo clean bowled skipper Kieron Pollard for 2 with the third ball of the sixth over. Gurbaz picked a boundary off the last ball of Bravo’s over to mid-wicket but only six runs came off that over.

Odean Smith lifted Fazalhaq over long-off for a six off the first ball of the seventh over. Gurbaz hit his third six of his innings over fine leg off Gleeson. Smith too hit a boundary to long-on. It was still doubtful whether New York would cross the 100-run mark.

Though Smith hit Naveen for a six off the first ball of the eighth over, he could not force another big shot from the over. Gurbaz hit Bravo’s first ball of the last over for a huge six to mid-wicket. He also hit the third ball for another six over deep square leg. Gurbaz could get only a boundary to long-on off the last ball and missed reaching his half century by one run. New York ended up two runs short of the 100-run mark.

The crash of the Delhi Bulls batting

Delhi Bulls’s chase began on a shaky note. West Indies slow left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein had opener Johnson Charles leg before for a duck to the second ball of the first over. With the next ball, he clean bowled one-drop James Vince. In the second over, Mohammad Amir also got Rilee Rossouw caught by Chamika Karunaratne at mid-on for 4. Three wickets were thus down before the score reached double figures.

Wickets continued to fall in the third over too when Hosein clean bowled Usman who went for a sweep and missed the ball for 3. Karunaratne who bowled the fifth over got opener Quinton de Kock caught and bowled for five with the second delivery and the consistent skipper Rovman Powelll caught behind by Gurbaz for 2 with the fourth ball. With the fifth ball he also got Bravo caught behind while trying to flick. The score board read a pathetic 15 for 7 at the half way stage.

Sunil Narine had Navin Ul Haq brilliantly stumped by Gurbaz off the third ball of the sixth over for the fourth duck of the innings. Ravi Bopara and Gleeson held on till the ninth over before Gleenson too got caught behind by Gurbaz off Muhammad Jawadullah for 1. Bopara became the only batsman to reach double figures but hit a high catch off Odean Smith to Karunaratne at point for 16. Delhi Bulls were bowled out in 9.3 overs for a record low score.

*Qais Ahmad and Salman Irshad’s three wicket spells*

Samp Army won the toss and elected to bowl. Bangla Tigers’s consistent and hard-hitting Jordan Cox had a new opening partner in Pathum Nissanka. The accurate Jason Holder got Nissanka out with the last ball of the first over, caught by Faf du Plessis at mid-off for 6. Cox, fresh from his unbeaten knock of 56 against Team Abu Dhabi, hit Peter Hatzoglou for two consecutive sixes in the second over to long-on and over extra cover.

Karim Janat bowled a tight third over giving away just two runs. Leg spinner Qais Ahmad who bowled the fourth over was lifted effortlessly by Cox over long-on for a six. Qais struck with the fifth ball to remove the dangerous Cox, who swept him straight to Salman Irshad at deep square leg for 27.

Karim Janat had one-drop Kusal Mendis caught brilliantly by Basil Hameed running in and taking a high catch long-on for 2. He also removed Avishka Fernando caught by Qais at sweeper cover. At the half way stage, Bangla Tigers was struggling at 39 for 4

Dominic Drakes hit Hatzoglou’s first ball of the sixth over for a boundary to long-off and the next ball for six over mid-wicket. Qais clean bowled Drakes, who went for a wild swing and missed, for 15. With only three more overs to go and the score reading 56 for 6, it was evident that Bangla Tigers would find it difficult to cross the 100-run mark.

To make the grip stronger, Irshad had Dasun Shanaka caught by Muhammad Irfan at third man for 3. He also yorked Carlos Brathwaite with a beauty for 2, giving just five runs in the eighth over.

Benny Howell hit Holder, who was re-introduced for the ninth over, for a boundary over extra cover and a six over long on to take 14 runs of that over. Rohan Mustafa too hit the first ball of the last over from Irshad through the covers. Irshad struck back forcing Mustafa to pull into the hands of Hatzoglou at deep mid-wicket for 11 with the fifth delivery. He returned with brilliant figures of 3 for 12 from his two overs. Haider Ali got run out off the last ball for 1 and Bangla Tigers got bowled out for 82

Gous's breezy start

Chasing the target, Samp Army opener Andries Gous hit Daniel Sams’ first delivery for a boundary through the covers. He also hit the last ball of that over past mid-on for another boundary. Left-arm spinner Haider Ali picked the valuable wicket of Faf du Plessis by forcing him to hit into the hands of Howell at mid-off for 1.

Gous continued to score freely hitting Shannon Gabriel for a six to deep square leg off the first ball of the third over and a boundary to deep mid-wicket off the second delivery. He also hit Grabriel’s fifth delivery over long-on for a six and a boundary to backward square leg, to take 24 runs of that over.

Haider Ali bowled another tight over giving away only seven runs from the fourth over. Gous pulled Howell for his fifth boundary off the first ball of the fifth over. However, Ibrahim Zadran, going for a slog sweep, got caught by a diving Brathwaite behind the wicketkeeper.

Karim Janat joined Gous when 32 runs were needed from the last five overs. Gous hit Brathwaite’s first delivery of the sixth over for a six over square leg. Brathwaite ended Gous’ knock by having him caught by Mustafa at deep point with the second ball for 42. His knock off 20 balls had four boundaries and three sixes. Skipper Moeen Ali walked in and hit Brathwaite’s fourth delivery for a six to deep square leg.

Needing just 18 more runs to win in 24 balls, Mustafa got Janat out for 4 , caught by Shanaka at deep square leg. He gave away only five runs in that over. With 13 runs needed off 18 balls, Najibullah Zadran hit Gabriel’s fifth delivery to the mid-off boundary.

By the start of the ninth over, Sampy Army needed only four runs to win. Zadran smashed the second delivery from Mustafa through the covers to win the match with 10 balls to spare.

*Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s blistering unbeaten 69 and Nuwan Thushara’s four-wicket spell help Deccan Gladiators blow away Northern Warriors*

*5th December 2023 Abu Dhabi:* Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s blistering knock of 69 off just 19 balls studded with a shower of eight sixes and four boundaries, and Nuwan Thushara’s deadly four-wicket spell blew away Northern Warriors by eight wickets in the 21st match of the Abu Dhabi T10 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

It was another spectacle from Kohler-Cadmore, who had also scored an unbeaten 44 against Chennai Braves in 19 balls with three sixes and five boundaries to ensure his team a ten-wicket win in 6.1 overs. This knock against Northern Warriors was a master class from this England wicket-keeper batsman on how to hit sixes with ease. Each of his eight sixes was hit with immaculate timing and power.

Northern Warriors who were asked to bat first could muster only 100 for 6 due to Thushara’s spell of four wickets for just 12 runs. This win helped Deccan Gladiators unseat Samp Army from the top of the table in just a few minutes after the first match of the day.

*Brief scores:*
Deccan Gladiators bt Northern Warriors by 8 wkts. Northern Warriors 100 for 6 in 10 overs (James Neesham 31, Angelo Mathews 29, Nuwan Thushara 4 for 12) Deccan Gladiators 104 for 2 in 6.1 overs (Tom Kohler-Cadmore 69n.o)
Player of the Match: Nuwan Thushara

*Thushara’s deadly four-wicket spell*

Deccan Gladiators won the toss and followed the trend of electing to bowl. Northern Warriors’s opener Kennar Lewis began promisingly by hitting Imad Wasim’s second ball of the first over for a six. Unfortunately, he fell to the second ball of the second over from Nuwan Thushara for 7.

Thushara also went on to clean bowl the dangerous Hazratullah Zazai with the fourth ball through a brilliant yorker for 3. To make matters worse, one-drop Josh Cobb got run out for 1 while going for a second run.

James Neeshan hit Trent Boult’s last delivery of the third over for a six over square leg. Luke Wood bowled a tight fourth over giving away only five runs. Zahoor Khan too made it tougher yielding only seven runs and at the halfway stage, Northern Warriors was 33 for 3.

Skipper Angelo Mathews hit Luke Wood for a six-over fine leg. He also hit Zahoor Khan for another six over long-off and a boundary. Those hits steered Northern Warriors past the 50-run mark.

Thushara was re-introduced for the eighth over and he had Mathews caught by Russell at long-on for 29. His knock off 18 balls had one boundary and two sixes. Strangely, after taking Mathews’ wicket, Thushara bowled three continuous wide deliveries but got Azmatullah Omarzai's lift straight to Russell at long on for 1. Thushara returned with figures of 4 for 12 from his two overs.

UAE’s wicketkeeper-batter Rahul Chopra picked two boundaries and a six off Trent Boult to push the score to 85 for 5 with one over to go. In the last over, Neesham cover drove Russell’s second delivery for a boundary and also hit a six off the third ball over mid-wicket. He was then run out for 31 through a direct hit by Andre Fletcher while attempting a bye. His knock off 23 balls had two boundaries and two sixes.

UAE’s Rameez Shahzad, by taking a double to long-on off the last ball, helped his team reach the 100-run mark. Chopra remained unbeaten on 14.

*Shower of sixes from Kohler-Cadmore*

Tom Kohler-Cadmore displayed his aggressive trait from the first ball of the innings hitting Mathews for a six over mid-wicket. He then went on to hit three more sixes off the last three deliveries. The first six was hit to long-on, the second one went over square leg, and the third to mid-wicket. Twenty-six runs were scored off the first over.

Azmatullah Omarzai kept the aggressive Nicholas Pooran quiet for the first three deliveries of the second over. Kohler-Cadmore got the strike for the fourth ball and hit Omarzai for three consecutive boundaries. The first was to long-off, second hit past backward point and third through the covers.

Pooran hit UAE’s left-arm spinner Sultan Ahmed’s third delivery for a six over extra cover but fell to the fourth delivery hitting to Mathews at extra cover for 7. Andre Fletcher walked in with his team needing 56 more runs to win. Tabraiz Shamsi, who was introduced for the fourth over, saw Kohler-Cadmore hit his second delivery for a boundary to long on and his third delivery sail over long-on for a six.

Kohler-Cadmore also hit his fourth delivery for a six over square leg to reach his half century in 13 balls. He celebrated his half century with another six over square leg and took 25 runs off that over. Fletcher too chipped in with two consecutive boundaries off Sultan Ahmed. By thehalfwayy mark, Deccan Gladiators needed only 18 runs.

Kohler-Cadmore, like his unbeaten 44 against Chennai Braves in his last match, seemed to be in a hurry to win the match. Fletcher hit Shamsi for a six off the first ball of the sixth over but fell to the next, caught by Mathews at mid-off for 18. Kohler-Cadmore hit his eighth six of the innings off Shamsi’s last delivery of the sixth over.

For a change, Russell hit a six off Neesham’s first ball of the seventh over, and won the match with 23 balls to spare.

In the second over, Gurbaz edged Binura Fernando for a boundary to the third man. But Waseem fell to the fourth ball of that over getting caught by Sharafu off Noor Ahmad for 23. Skipper Dwaine Pretorius introduced himself for the seventh over and clean bowled Kusal Perera, who tried to play across the line, for 1.

Later, Noor Ahmad got hit for two consecutive boundaries by Gurbaz off the first two balls. He then had Gurbaz out with the fourth ball stumped by Tom Banton for 41. His knock off 26 balls had eight boundaries. Noor Ahmad also got Mark Deyal out with the last ball of the over caught by Leus du Plooy at deep mid-wicket for 2.

Odean Smith inched this team towards the 100 run mark with a six over extra cover off Binura Fernando. Asif Ali, trying to hit the fourth ball of that over for a six, got caught by Van der Merwe at long-on for 4. Skipper Kieron Pollard hit the first ball he faced for a six over deep square leg off Fernando’s fifth delivery.

New York Strikers thus went past the 100 run mark in 9.3 overs. Smith remained unbeaten on 13 and Pollard unconquered on 8 to set a total of 110 for 5.

Abu Dhabi’s yet another dismal batting show

Abu Dhabi started their chase with opener Kyle Mayers picking a boundary past point off the last ball of the first over from Akeal Hosein. In the second over, Mayers could score only a boundary off Mohamad Amir.

Sunil Narine was introduced for the third over and he had opener Tom Banton caught by Waseem at deep mid-wicket for 1.
