TOURNAMENT WINDOW FOR CPL 2025 CONFIRMED

The 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will take place from Thursday 14 August to Sunday 21 September. This window has been agreed between CPL and Cricket West Indies (CWI) and once again there will be no clash with West Indies international matches.

The six teams taking part in the 2025 season will be Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders. The teams will compete across 34 matches to decide who will claim the 2025 CPL title.

Pete Russell, CEO of the Republic Bank CPL, said: “We are pleased to have once again worked with Cricket West Indies to find a window that allows the very best players from across the region to take part in the CPL. The 2024 season was our most successful to date and we are looking forward to building on that success in 2025.”

Lynford Inverary, Cricket West Indies acting CEO and COO, said: “We are delighted to confirm the 2025 CPL window. While CWI continues to take a leading role in shaping our overall cricket calendar, the CPL remains a key part of our cricketing ecosystem, playing an important role in the development and promotion of the game throughout the Caribbean. Our collaboration with CPL ensures that the best talent will be on display while avoiding any conflicts with international cricket.”

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will proudly reprise their role as hosts for the 2025 edition of the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL), scheduled to take place from 10 to 18 July at the iconic Providence Stadium

The Amazon Warriors, champions of the 2023 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), will join four elite franchises from around the globe as they vie for the prestigious GSL trophy and a share of the US$1 million prize fund. With international talent converging on Guyana, the stage is set for another exhilarating tournament that showcases world-class T20 cricket alongside the vibrant culture of the host nation.

The Amazon Warriors came heartbreakingly close to reaching the GSL final in 2024, falling short only on Net Run Rate after a spirited campaign. Nevertheless, they demonstrated their trademark resilience and class, hallmarks that have defined their CPL journey. One of the most consistent teams in CPL history, the Amazon Warriors have qualified for the playoffs every year, reaching the final on an incredible seven occasions. They added yet another strong season to their record books by finishing as runners-up in the 2024 CPL.

Looking ahead to another thrilling chapter, Sir Clive Lloyd, Chairman of the ExxonMobil GSL, shared his excitement:

“The Guyana Amazon Warriors were brilliant hosts for the tournament in 2024, and I know all the players and visiting teams appreciated the warm welcome they received. Beyond the cricket, the Warriors and the people of Guyana helped showcase this incredible country to the world. This year’s tournament offers another wonderful opportunity for Guyana to shine as a top-tier destination, known for its breathtaking beauty, hospitality, and passion for the game.

The 2025 ExxonMobil GSL promises to build on the success of the 2024 tournament, bringing thrilling contests and unforgettable moments to the cricket-loving fans of Guyana and beyond. With the Amazon Warriors set to battle for home glory, and an impressive lineup of global challengers, this summer’s showdown is shaping up to be one of the most exciting events on the international cricket calendar.

Holder leaves Barbados Royals after 13 years to join STKNP; Rutherford moves to Royals

In a landmark move in the history of CPL, experienced allrounder Jason Holder will leave his home franchise Barbados Royals after 13 years, to join St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (STKNP) for the upcoming season. As part of the trades and transfers before the CPL draft next month, STKNP also acquired middle-order batter Alick Athanaze while trading middle-order basher Sherfane Rutherford to Royals.

Holder had been with Royals since the inaugural CPL season in 2013. That period included lifting the trophy twice, in 2014 and 2019, the latter under Holder's captaincy. He played 104 matches for Royals to take 97 wickets that included two four-fors, and also scored 1169 in 85 innings at a strike rate of 129.60.

Rutherford, currently playing IPL 2025 for Gujarat Titans (GT), will be turning out for his third CPL franchise, having represented STKNP for the last four seasons and Guyana Amazon Warriors from 2018 to 2020.

Athanaze has also turned out only for Royals so far, in 2023 and 2024. He made his international debut in 2023 before his CPL debut, and played 19 matches in all for Royals. He scored 344 runs in those outings, averaging 22.93 and striking at 106.83 with just one half-century.

STKNP had finished last in 2024 with just one win from 10 games, while Royals had progressed to the playoffs and lost qualifier 2 to runners-up Amazon Warriors.

CPL 2025 will be played from August 14 to September 21 with no clashes with West Indies' international assignments. St Lucia Kings are the defending champions this time.

Five Pakistan players set to feature in Caribbean Premier League 2025

Seems like there isn't much exciting talent coming through from Pak. We used to have good no. of players getting picked for CPL in the past. Hassan Khan is now a US player. So just 4 Pakistani players out of which two are retired. Usman Tariq and Nawaz doesn't seem to inspire much confidence either.

CPL 2025 Set for Explosive Start as Caribbean Cricket Carnival Returns: Everything You Need to KNow

The Caribbean Premier League’s 13th edition will light up the cricket calendar from August 14, with the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots facing Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in Basseterre. CPL 2025 promises six weeks of high-octane action across six countries, culminating in the final on September 21 at Providence Stadium, Guyana. In a format echoing the IPL, the top two teams from the league stage will enjoy two chances to secure a spot in the grand finale, while the other two playoff qualifiers will battle for the remaining berth.

This year’s CPL 2025 will be staged in St Kitts, Antigua, St Lucia, Trinidad, Barbados, and Guyana, with 34 matches set to be played. From returning legends to fresh breakout talent, the tournament blends proven star power with the next generation of Caribbean cricket.

Legends Return, Young Guns Rise

Few stories have stirred as much buzz as the Bravo brothers’ reunion. Dwayne Bravo, the league’s most decorated player with five titles, retired from playing after an injury ended his 2024 season but returns as head coach of Trinbago Knight Riders, replacing Phil Simmons. His younger brother, Darren Bravo, will rejoin the CPL after last playing in 2022, aiming to rediscover his rhythm at 36.

Experience will be everywhere. Imran Tahir, now 46, continues to defy age, holding the record as the only overseas bowler with over 100 CPL wickets. He’s joined by 38-year-old Moeen Ali at Guyana Amazon Warriors, both aiming to secure another title. Kieron Pollard, fresh from winning the MLC with MI New York, captains TKR alongside fellow veterans Colin Munro and Alex Hales—who is just 41 runs short of surpassing Pollard in all-time T20 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan, signed by the Falcons, is just two wickets shy of the 500-T20 milestone. Meanwhile, reigning champions St Lucia Kings face the absence of skipper Faf du Plessis, sidelined for groin surgery. David Wiese, a 40-year-old T20 journeyman, will lead in his place, hoping to repeat last year’s maiden title win.

Among the “ones to watch” are rising local stars from the newly established breakout league. Jediah Blades of Amazon Warriors offers both swing and death-over control, while Kofi James of Barbados Royals blends top-order aggression with handy offspin. CPL rules require each team to include at least one breakout league player every match, allowing space for up to five overseas professionals in the XI.

Title Contenders and Global Attention

The Trinbago Knight Riders, loaded with T20 icons such as Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, Sunil Narine, and the Bravo brothers, enter CPL 2025 as early favourites. Amazon Warriors, champions in 2023 and runners-up last season, remain strong despite losing Glenn Phillips to injury. The Kings, even without Noor Ahmad and Matthew Forde, will look to defy the odds under coach Daren Sammy.

As always, the CPL overlaps with other franchise tournaments, notably the Hundred, influencing player availability. Yet, fan engagement will be global—Indian viewers can catch the games on JioStar or Fancode, audiences in the USA and UK on Willow and TNT Sports, while Sky NZ and SuperSport cover New Zealand and Sub-Saharan Africa respectively. Ball-by-ball commentary will be available online for those following every delivery.

From seasoned match-winners to fearless newcomers, CPL 2025 looks set to deliver the Caribbean’s trademark blend of cricket fireworks, crowd energy, and unforgettable moments. Whether you’re watching from the stands in St Kitts or streaming halfway across the world, the “biggest party in sport” is ready to begin.

The second match of The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) saw St Kitts & Nevis Patriots pitted against last season's runners-up - Guyana Amazon Warriors.

The Patriots won their first home game in three years in the competition opener the previous evening but were brought back down to earth with a bump as the Warriors completed an ice veined run chase to win by five wickets with 16 balls remaining.
The Warriors’ experienced skipper Imran Tahir won the toss with a bit of weather around in Basseterre and duly elected to bowl first. The Patriots made what seemed like a more than competitive total by posting 153/8 largely thanks to opener Andre Fletcher’s 60 off 41 deliveries.

However, the Warriors’ much vaunted batting card soon made light work of the total as Ben McDermott blitzed 75 off 39 balls at the top of the order, spanking ten fours and four sixes to get Guyana off to a flier.

They never looked in trouble as Shai Hope compiled a classy half century to guide the Warriors home with ease after the pair rattled along in a 114-run partnership that saw McDermott score his first CPL fifty on debut.

The fifth over of the run chase saw the key moment in the match as Naseem Shah failed to hold onto a chipped return catch from McDermott off his very first delivery when the opener was on 32 and had just plundered 19 runs off the previous over. The chance went down and the boundary peppering swiftly resumed.

The win gave Warriors their last fifth victory in a row over the Patriots and saw the 2023 champions get their 2025 CPL campaign off to an eye-catching start.

McDermott was later named Player of the Match for his scintillating innings and the six time CPL finalists Guyana Amazon Warriors head straight to the top of the table after a dominant start to this year’s competition.

Running concurrently with the Hundred is no good for CPL

But a good job by Guyana despite carrying 2 useless overseas players in Moeen Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons won a tight third match of The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in front of their home fans at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, defeating Barbados Royals by 6 wickets with just two balls remaining in a pulsating affair.

The Royals are two-time CPL winners and had won the last two meetings with the Falcons but a litany of dropped catches and fluffed run outs cost them in their first outing of this year’s competition

Falcons captain, Imad Wasim won the toss on a damp night in Antigua and his decision to chase proved to be a sage one with his side knowing what they needed to do and getting a chance to assess the best way to compile runs on a tricky surface.

Karima Gore was named the player of the match as his second consecutive fifty saw the Falcons chase down a target of 151, a mature innings saw him unbeaten on 64 off 53 deliveries.

Gore was ably supported by Jewel Andrew, the opener posting 28 off 25 deliveries before falling LBW to Jomel Warrican, who incidentally picked up his first CPL wicket in ten years, Jacques Kallis being his previous victim in the 2015 competition.

Fifties for Quinton de Kock and captain Rovman Powell gave the Royals hope of getting off to a winning start but Gore’s innings proved the decisive one, his accumulation of 24 singles interspersed with just five boundaries was noteworthy, “When I first went in, I'd just get used to the pitch but it seemed very difficult for me.” He said after the game, adding that “I pride myself on running, trying to keep as fit as possible… they always say singles are part of aggressive batting. So once you can run plenty with the odd boundaries, you will keep going."

Colin Munro blitzed a remarkable hundred for Trinbago Knight Riders to give them an impressive victory over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots by 12 runs in the fourth game of the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Munro scored 120 off just 57 balls from the top of the order, hitting at an emphatic 210 strike rate that included 14 fours and six sixes.

A high scoring match saw the Patriots pile on 219/7 in reply with Jason Holder top scoring with 44 trying to the last to haul his side into contention but the Knight Riders total of 231/5 was always just out of reach.

The Patriots will look back and rue a relatively slow start on a flat batting track with just 23 runs scored off the first three overs of their response that in the end saw them only fall short by two maximum blows.

After winning the toss, Holder inserted the Knight Riders but might well have soon regretted the decision as he saw his bowlers dispatched to all parts of Warner Park.

An opening stand of 114 between Munro and Alex Hales was broken in the ninth over but by then the platform was well and truly set for a monster score.

Player of the match Munro was particularly brutal down the ground, hitting both pace and spin back past the bowlers as he peppered the hoardings.

The Kiwi batter eventually fell swatting a Holder short ball to Rilee Rossouw at extra cover but by then the Knight Riders had amassed 213 runs and Munro had eclipsed Nicholas Pooran’s 102* against Barbados in the 2023 CPL to claim the Trinidad Franchise’s highest individual score.

In doing so the New Zealander also became only the second overseas player, alongside Faf fu Plessis, to score two CPL hundreds.

The Knight Riders joined Guyana Amazon Warriors at the top of the table with one win from one while the Patriots have chalked up two defeats after victory in their own first game.

CHASE AND KINGS CLOSE OUT THRILLER

Saint Lucia Kings and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots were involved in a last ball thriller in game six of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in Basseterre. A brilliant debut innings from Breakout League pick Navin Bidaisee saw the Patriots stay in contention throughout a tight run chase as they attempted to haul down the Kings total of 200/8.

The match went down to the final delivery with Bidaisee and the Patriots requiring four to win off David Wiese’s last ball. Wiese nailed his yorker for most of the over but missed his length slightly off the crucial delivery to put one in the slot. Navin duly bunted down towards the boundary at long off only for the towering Tim David to pull off an ice-veined catch to give Kings victory by three runs and break Patriot hearts in the process.

Roston Chase was named player of the match for scoring 61 off 38 deliveries with the bat and cementing an all-round performance with 2/27 with the ball, his wily spin economical as ever and pocketing the wickets of Rilee Rossouw and Patriots skipper Jason Holder.

“It was a bit nerve-racking!” said Chase post-match. “I think we made it a hard victory. I thought we could have won it a bit more outright, but I'm still grateful for the two points.”

With the momentum shifting back and forth all match it was a bitter pill for the Patriots to lose at the last after Bidaisee played such a spectacular maiden CPL innings to finish with scoring 50 runs off just 36 balls to see the game go right down to the wire.

The loss sees the Patriots with just one win in four matches and three defeats on the bounce. The Kings head to the top of the CPL table on net run rate despite their first match against the Falcons being abandoned due to rain.

Falcons vs Trinbago, 7th Match at North Sound

MCCOY AND FALCONS SOAR AGAINST KNIGHT RIDERS

Another night, another pulsating match. Antigua & Barbuda Falcons and Trinbago Knight Riders locked horns in the seventh game of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and the Falcons took the spoils in the last over of the match to win by 8 runs.

Needing 14 off the final over and with the mighty Kieron Pollard well set and with his eye in the Knight Riders looked set to complete the victory. Enter Shamar Springer. The right arm quick held his nerve with a mixture of short and full balls that Pollard failed to send to the fence.

Four off the last ball was not enough for Pollard or the Knight Riders, the win seeing the Falcons head to the top of the table and Nicholas Pooran’s side languishing second from bottom.

Pooran won the toss and inserted the Falcons, this looked to have worked out very nicely as the Knight Riders bowled tightly to reduce the hosts to 77/5 in the 14th over. A counter-attacking knock by Fabian Allen from the lower order saw him strike 45 off just 20 deliveries including three fours and three sixes. The runs were crucial and hauled the Falcons to a respectable total of 167/6.

Southpaw quick bowler Obed McCoy earned the Player of the March award for taking 4/39 with the ball to keep the Knight Riders at bay. The dangerous Colin Munro guided to short third for 44 after getting the Knight Riders off to another rattling start with the bat, McCoy pocketing him and the dangerous Alex Hales in the same over.

Pooran, Keacy Carty and Darren Bravo chipped away but couldn’t stay at the crease long enough to make a match-winning contribution. Pollard then smashed seven boundaries to get Knight Riders back in the contest but ultimately couldn’t get his side over the line at the last.

Patriots vs Royals, 8th Match at Basseterre

Barbados Royals won the toss and elected to field first

Barbados Royals XI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Brandon King, Kadeem Alleyne, Rovman Powell (capt), Sherfane Rutherford, Kofi James, Daniel Sams, Ramon Simmonds, Nyeem Young, Eathan Bosch, Jomel Warrican

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots XI: Evin Lewis, Andre Fletcher (wk), Kyle Mayers, Navian Bidaisee, Rilee Rossouw, Mohammad Rizwan, Jason Holder (capt), Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah, Waqar Salamkheil, Ashmead Nedd

Game eight of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) saw another close and hard fought contest between St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Barbados Royals.

Chasing the Patriots total of 174/8 the Royals managed to get within touching distance but when Jason Holder pinned Jomel Warrican lbw with the second ball of the nineteenth over it consigned the Royals to their second defeat in two games.

The 12 run victory sees the Patriots move to second position in the table albeit they’ve played five matches to get their two wins. Royals captain Rovman Powell won the toss and elected to chase at Warner Park Stadium, Ramon Simmonds was the pick of the Royals bowlers as the left arm quick claimed 3/26 from his four over burst that included an impressive 11 dot balls and conceding just three boundaries.

The telling contributions with the bat for Patriots came from the engine room of Kyle Mayers (42) and captain Holder, the latter scooped the player of the match gong for his 38 off 21 deliveries with the bat and a scintillating 4/14 with the ball.

The Royals were well set in their chase at 92/3 off ten overs but they fell away in the second half of their innings, failing to build significant partnerships and ultimately being blown away by Holder taking two wickets with consecutive balls twice in their innings.

After failing to bowl sides out in previous CPL tournaments – the Patriots went fifty innings without taking all ten wickets - Holder’s side have now managed it twice in this year’s tournament already and have given their chances of making it to the latter stages a shot in the arm in the process.

Powell’s Royal's meanwhile have plenty to ponder as they still look for their first win of the 2025 competition.

Amazon vs Falcons, 9th Match at North Sound

Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons XI: Jewel Andrew (wk), Rahkeem Cornwall, Karima Gore, Bevon Jacobs, Shakib Al Hasan, Imad Wasim (capt), Fabian Allen, Shamar Springer, Obed McCoy, Jayden Seales, Usama Mir

Guyana Amazon Warriors XI: Ben McDermott, Kevlon Anderson, Shai Hope (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Moeen Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Romario Shepherd, Dwaine Pretorius, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph, Imran Tahir (capt)

After three closely fought games in a row there was a thumping. Game nine of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) saw Guyana Amazon Warriors comfortably overcome Antigua & Barbuda Falcons by a huge margin of 83 runs.

The win sees the Warriors move into second position behind the Falcons on the table but Imran Tahir’s side have impressed with two wins in two and have eight games in hand.

It was the Warriors’ skipper who scooped the Player Of The Match award with a scintillating haul of 5/21 with the ball that snuffed out any hopes the Falcons had of chasing down an imposing target of 211/3

For the first time in the competition the side winning the toss decided to set the tone and bat first, on a damp night at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua eyebrows could have been raised at Tahir’s decision to do so.

Not for long. After a delay of 54 minutes for rain, the Warriors set about slamming the boundaries and building an intimidating score.

Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer showed their class with the bat once more with a 106-run partnership in 44 balls, Hope top scoring with a classy 82 off 54 before Hetmyer opened his shoulders in destructive fashion, hitting 65 off 26 balls that included five fours and five sixes.

It was always going to be a tricky chase but the Falcons got off to a fast start through Rahkeem Cornwall (10 off 3) and in form batter Karima Gore (31 off 14) but neither could stay at the crease and do any real damage, the wickets came and went swiftly after them. Tahir then stepped up to weave his web, after a double wicket maiden to start he never looked back, pocketing the best T20 bowling figures of his storied career to win the match for his side.

Game ten of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) saw Trinbago Knight Riders chalk up a hard fought victory over Saint Lucia Kings by 18 runs.

Both sides have had a quiet start to this year’s competition with just one win apiece in the early stages heading into this evening’s match at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet.

David Wiese won the toss for the Kings and elected to field first, that gave Colin Munro and Alex Hales the opportunity to have first use of the wicket and the Knight Riders' opening pair impressed once more with a 47 run opening stand. Wiese then pocketed Hales after an uppish flay was snaffled by Tabraiz Shamsi at short third.

Munro was fluent once more, striking six boundaries on his way to 43 from 30 balls before holing out to mid-off to give Shamsi his first wicket and the opportunity to dial up his shoe based telephone celebration.

Knight Riders captain Nicholas Pooran compiled a calm 34 off 30 balls while player of the match Kieron Pollard inflicted the real damage, clearing the ropes for six sixes and four fours to see Knight Ridders post a competitive total of 183/7.

After managing to stay in the hunt with the bat, Kings needed an improbable 29 off the final over . Hopes were raised of an unlikely victory against the odds when Ackeem Auguste duly launched Andre Russell's first delivery over long on for six but the bowler had the last laugh, getting out of the over for just four more runs and picking up the wicket of Delano Potgieter in the process.

The Knight Riders pulled off the win in Kings’ own backyard to head up to third position in the CPL table while the home side suffered their first loss of the competition to go with their abandoned first match which sees them one place above Barbados Royals at the foot of the table.
