Update: Fakhar Zaman is being assessed and examined for a muscular sprain and further updates will be provided in due course.

Pakistan cricketer Fakhar Zaman sustained an injury in the first over of Pakistan’s Champions Trophy match against New Zealand in Karachi.

The incident occurred on the third ball of Shaheen Shah Afridi’s opening over when Will Young drove a wide, full delivery through the covers for three runs.

Fakhar sprinted to the boundary in an attempt to stop the ball but landed awkwardly while diving, immediately showing signs of discomfort. He signaled for a replacement before walking off the field, clutching his lower back.

Hope he’s alright. After having already lost the services of Saim Ayub, Pakistan team cannot afford losing another match winning batter.

Things have gone from bad to worse.... If fakhar is out, so is pakistan's chance to win

Can you imagine Usman (who has never played an ODI) and Babar to open in an ICC event haha
hopefuly it doesnt come to that

Huge blow if the injury is serious. Pakistan can't afford to lose Fakar Zama. He is the only batsmen who can win games with little support from other end.

Hes back i the field. Dammit, i fell for an Indian source on fb that he has been ruled out.

Fakhar sprinted to the boundary in an attempt to stop the ball but landed awkwardly while diving..

Uncontrolled weight leads to unrestrained momentum when sprinting. Exacerbated by poor fielding form.

Of course you then stop "awkwardly" leading to back injuries. Specifically lumbar spine.

Fakhar Zaman didn't open the innings for Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener against New Zealand

Why was he sent to bat if he’s injured? Who’s are these brainless people making decisions? I hate to say but these people seem to be mentally underdeveloped

The first picture speaks volumes.

A simple bend down to pick up a ball. After a short sprint. And his back gives out.

These aren't professional athletes.

Given the way he was struggling with the bat, Fakhar's tournament (and career) might be over. If that is the case, do Pakistan get to pick an injury replacement?

Obviously not ideal and a fit Fakhar is the best ODI opener in the country but if it is as we fear, who should the replacement be?

Personally, I like Mohammad Haris and he might be a good stop-gap for this tournament. He has the balls to hit boundaries from the get go and would pair well with Usman Khan.

The team against India should look like this:

1) Haris/Fakhar
2) Usman
3) Babar
4) Rizwan
5) Salman
6) Ghulam
7) Tahir
8) Shaheen
9) Naseem
10) Rauf
11) Abrar

we may or may not have a replacement for Fakhar but we now have a perfect cover for excusing performances in the remaining matches.
Pakistan will be knocked out of the championship and it will he because of player injuries not because of other larger underlying issues.

On merit imam is obvious choice .I think we should give a go to tullybazz usman khan he will not do worse than gutless babar azam

Losing both your regular openers, who also happen to be two of your best and in-form ODI batsmen would definitely be the main cause.

No other 'underlying' issue comes close given we have beaten both Australia and South Africa in ODI series coming into this tournament and conducted a record chase against the Saffers when Fakhar was fit.

This is why Kirsten didnt wanna give captaincy to Rizwan , as we can see he is totally unprofessional and brings in his Peshawari boys to create a human ring around him to serve them as boss... such a rotten mindset..

Our only chance is to take more wickets and restrict opposition. Batting is a lost cause with Fakhar also gone now.

I would replace Fakhar with Shadab or Sufyaan Muqeem and for opener just go with Usman Khan, you selected him so gotta play him, maybe can play a fluke hack innings would be better than 10 overs 22 at least.

In Bowling we need to add someone who can turn the ball and get some wickets in middle overs. Before today's game would have dropped Khushdil for Sufyaan but now he did something and with top order completely out of form I think we could consider trying Shadab in place of a batsman to add to spin bowling.

So perhaps:
Usman
Rizwan
Babar
Salman
Tayyab
Shadab
Khushdil
Naseem
Shaheen
Haris
Abrar

Obviously. Fakhar will get replaced but another player But I think Fakhar might be back next game...

Brilliant. Tamgha e Pakistan for management for carrying only one proper opener in shape of Fakhar.

Now you can open with Babar and Saud because pitch is easy according to Aqib.

Was able to play all of that Micky mouse league in Dubai ..

Who is going to replace him .

Until ICC announces something, nothing is confirmed but yeah, Fakhar is definitely out of India clash. PPCB should be looking for replacements meanwhile

This is a set back for Pakistan because Fakhar is one guy every opposition team is scared of because of the way he bats, because of what he’s done in the past, because what everyone knows he’s capable of. Remember in CWC2023 He made a mockery of the 400 run target.

Things getting worse for Pakistan. First Saim Ayub and now this.

Here's what Pakistan should do. Get asap replacement of Fakhar in form of Shan or Abdullah (Abdullah is good against Spin and India will have spinners).

Play this XI vs India

1. Usman
2. Shan/Abdullah
3. Babar
4. Rizwan
5. Salman
6. Tayyab / Kamran
7. Khushdil
8. Shaheen
9. Naseem
10. Rauf / Hasnain
11. Abrar

The fitness level of most Pakistani cricketers is extremely pathetic, their body is made up of glass.

Abdullah was unfairly dropped after one bad series. Amusingly after his failure in ODI series he was dropped from test series. He could have performed much better at home

Fakhar Zaman is out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025—a big setback for Pakistan.

Pakistan star ruled out of Champions Trophy ahead of blockbuster India fixture

A big blow for Pakistan's Champions Trophy defence with a key batter ruled out of the next game at the tournament.

Pakistan have suffered a massive blow with news that opener Fakhar Zaman will miss his side's match against India in Dubai on Sunday.

Fakhar hurt himself while fielding in the opening over of Pakistan's clash against New Zealand in Karachi and has been subsquently ruled out of the tournament ahead of the big contest against arch-rival India.

The Pakistan Cricket Board have confirmed that the seasoned batter will miss the big ticket match owing to an oblique tear.

The left-handed batter has been replaced by Imam-ul-Haq in Pakistan's Champions Trophy squad.

Zaman had been a prolific feature of the Pakistan squad when they won their first-ever Champions Trophy title in 2017.

The southpaw opener bashed a sensational hundred in the summit clash against India to inspire a 180-run win.

Pakistan's title defence at home had already been dealt when Saim Ayub was ruled out of the tournament after he twisted his ankle during the Test series in South Africa.

Setback? More like an execution.
Bro both saim and fakhar was the full team these two players were biggest match winners of pakistan reason why recently pak doing well is because of saim so pak team is out of ct now sad times but good thing never last forever it was great how sarfraz won ct he was genious hopefully saim comes back again he will make pak odi team formidable again.

The deep underlying issues:
1) no bench strength
2) poor fitness issues
3) mediocre fielding
4) bowlers unable to contain when getting smashed
4) unsettled opening pair
5) extremely unreliable middle order
6) team planning and management not up to standards
7) no planning or preparation for big tournaments

These are the main ones and I’m sure there are more. Having fakhar zaman and saim ayub does make a difference but it’s not enough to make us competitive for big tournaments

You need atleast 7 saim ayub to make Pakistan a world class unit lol

Imam-ul-Haq approved as replacement for Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan squad

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has approved Imam-ul-Haq as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman in the Pakistan squad.

Twenty-nine-year-old Imam, who has played 72 ODIs, was named as a replacement after Fakhar was ruled out due to an oblique injury.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket), Sarah Edgar (ICC Senior Manager – Events), Usman Wahla (PCB Director – International Cricket Operations), Shaun Pollock (Independent Representative).

Too bad Babar didn’t get injured instead of Fakhar. Imam would have been a good replacement for him

POLL ADDED GUYS.

As expected.... Imam was the front runner and selected rightly.

what a pathetic post by this imbecile
Why? Babar and saud aren't contributing? Then getting injured for imam who's performing in domestics isn't a bad thought.

Why would you want 2 players who haven't contributed?

Fakhar on the other hand is 50% of Pakistan' s odi batting lineup with Saim being the other 50%.

Bro, wishing for an injury on someone is really low a person can get.
It doesnt matter if you like or hate someone. Injury sucks.

We only see injury on the camera and think oh hes going home, but any person dealing with injury becomes immobile. He cannot move easily and has to deal with pain and his career lingers.

There is one thing to have your favorite players, but to wish that someone gets injured is really pathetic.

You're taking it way too seriously. It's not a big deal, Pakistani fans are passionate and understandable to want someone excluded for someone else.

Saying something doesn't mean actually thinking or wanting that for someone.

Exactly. It’s just a figure of speech. Major gets hurt every time someone talks negatively about his idols Misbah and Babar

again, you cant go around wishing someone to get injured. There is a line. Passionate fan doesnt mean i go around and say oh lets hope that player gets cancer.

Whether someone likes it or not, these guys have been selected. You cant go around wishing anyone to get injured, its really low one can go.

First this guy wants players get injured, than tries to justify it..... Pathetic.

Brother it's not a big deal. @psyoptica doesn't actually want Babar to break a leg. Reading in-between the lines is a common trait in understanding how humans communicate.

He's obviously wishing for Babar to replaced by imam instead of fakhar and phrasing it in a different way.

He doesn't actually want Babar to suffer a life threatening injury. Words have different meanings lol.

I dont like Faheem Ashraf, but i wont go around saying and hoping he gets injured, and than try to justify it oh i was saying it as a figure of speech.

In 2023 world cup when Pakistan were getting butchered i said something along the lines of, I hope Nawaz injured himself for his country so that Pakistan can play abrar.

No one actually looked at my comment and believed that I want to run Nawaz over. And I can confirm that I obviously didn't want Nawaz to injure himself for his country lol.

.

You can have your likes and dislikes, but words need to be chosen carefully. Plus, how else would a player be replaced inside a squad. There is no other way, injury is the only way, so its not even figure of speech.

It was an imbecile statement on that posters part, who than tried to justify it.
