Duleep Trophy to kick start India's domestic cricket season 2024-25

The BCCI on Thursday announced the commencement of the Indian domestic cricket season for 2024-25, which will kick off with the Duleep Trophy on September 5.

For the 2024-25 season, the BCCI has carefully designed the fixtures, considering various factors to strengthen the foundation of domestic cricket, with a particular emphasis on prioritizing player well-being.

The season will start with the prestigious Duleep Trophy, where four teams selected by the senior men's selection committee will compete. The tournament will commence in Anantapur on September 5.

Following the Duleep Trophy, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to the Irani Cup and the Ranji Trophy, featuring the first five league matches.

The season will then transition to white-ball cricket, with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy preceding the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Subsequently, the Ranji Trophy will resume, hosting the final two league matches before culminating in the knockout stages.

Throughout the scheduling process, the BCCI has ensured that player well-being remains a top priority, along with a focus on promoting women's cricket and other significant tournaments.

"To prioritise player welfare, an extended gap between matches has been incorporated, ensuring ample time for recovery and sustained peak performance," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.

"All Women's challenger tournaments, spanning one-day, T20, and Multi-Day formats, will witness teams selected by the national selectors."

In addition, the CK Nayudu Trophy will undergo a significant change with a revamped points system aimed at promoting balanced performances among teams. Under this new system, teams will earn points not only for their batting and bowling performances in the first innings but also for securing the first innings lead or achieving an outright victory.

This adjustment is intended to encourage teams to focus on all aspects of the game and to reward comprehensive performances rather than just individual achievements.

"A thorough review will be conducted post-season to evaluate the efficacy of the new points system, with a potential implementation in the Ranji Trophy for subsequent seasons," Shah said.

In a landmark decision, the toss will be abolished for CK Nayudu Trophy matches.

Under this new rule, the visiting team will be granted the privilege to choose whether to bat or bowl first, eliminating the traditional coin toss altogether.

Now they are batting together. Brothers. Jaiswal dismissed by Khaleel.

I was very happy that the duleep trophy is happening at tier 4 city like anantapur ,which is in my state. When i checked it,i found quite a few interesting things. That ground was built by a Spanish volunteer .(Vincent Ferrer). They were volunteering in that area from past 50 years .It seems Nadal and others have provided their support to the trust in charity activities. In fact cricket pitch was imported from Brisbane.(so no wonder iyer and others departed quickly )

Any one can make out that pitch is not a sub continental pitch from the commentators tap on the pitch.

Intersting observation akashdeep is effective in 2nd or 3rd spell compared to opening .

He gets 2 Wickets after lunch

Kl is useless he is the senior player in india a and look at his performance

When a new bee is able to hit a century, in far more tough conditions, this most senior guy can't do anything. Only issue is rest of the no5 potentials (Sarfaraz,Iyer,Jurel) are also not playing well.

Akashdeep bowled well and got quite a few wickets and mukes went over 4 rpo. Definitely Akashdeep will be the 4th pacer as back up .Hope saini too picks himself. Can't bear mukesh ambrose in tests especially in aus tour.Reports are that bumrah may not play in first match agaibst bng and siraj will partner with the back up pacer.

Pant Coming into form at right time

Saini for what exactly?

He's struggling to hit even 130 kph and speed used to be his only calling card.

His wickets were basically a function of pitch or luck. No control over lines or length.

That's y I said hope he can pick himself .we don't have any back up pacer apart from akashdeep and we don't need mukesh, khaleel, avesh kind of garbage again. Don't know why Karthik Tyagi,Kuldeep sen are not preferred by selection committee.

Rana have that fire in his belly but am not sure of his quality as he has to yet play against an international opponent. We need atleast 2 good backups in aus tour.i dont think we can survive with 3 pacers in aus series.

What happened Karthik and Porel. Are they injured are fallen away
Porel was never a thing in the first place. From his batch Mavi and Nagarkoti were the key bowlers. Porel was a support bowler. Turns out substitute Arshdeep singh overtook others from that batch. Karthik Tyagi is from a state where they have a lot of experienced fast bowlers. So he is not finding a consistent spot even in domestic. He has to move to another state to make himself relevant as even in the IPL he lands in a side where he is a surplus bowler and is not getting a chance. He needs to provide a breakthrough performance when he gets a chance.

Furthermore, the guy is almost 32 years old. I used to laugh at those who hyped him up a few years ago. Now, fanboys of Umran Malik provide me with the same entertainment.

Akash Deep in the first round of Duleep Trophy 2024:

He is locked for down under tour as 4th Pacers but i worried about his speed which is not suitable for Australian conditions .

Best thing is rahul getting out and no chance of image as stand alone Warrior left dry with incompetent batsmen not able to score

Add nitish reddy
And one of avesh/arshdeep/vysak
As well.

Prasidh has gone down hill sadly. He was shockingly bad vs SA in seaming conditions. Injury ravaged.

Kuldeep Sen would have got a chance in sena conditions but he is injured.

Tyagi went downhill. Has no interest in tests.

Umran bowls too short for test cricket. Only pace won't help much.

Mayank is the one with serious talent but again injury woes.

The main 6 7 bowlers are good though.

Nitish reddy can be the all rounder as 4th pacer aka thakur kind of role on perth. All the potential back ups should be tried out in Ind A tour of Aus and let them grow

My concern is batting.

New look batting now. No consolidator at all.

Middle 3 would be pant Rahul and kohli I guess.

Jaiswal, Pant and bowling have to do the real damage. As u said there is no mr dependable this time ,am not sure how successful Gill will be at number 3 slot.Cummins is very clever to exploit the issues as shown in case of babar.

Scott Boland averages 12 in Australia despite bowling in lower 130 kph

Vernon Philander averaged a decent 29 in Australia despite being trundler speed.

Plain good old accuracy, line and length matter a lot anywhere. Also bowlers work as teams.

When you have bumrah on one end, he can make anyone looked elite.

In saying that akashdeep himself is a very good bowler.

We should go with bumrah shami if fit akashdeep and harshit

Siraj can be backup along with nitish reddy and avesh.

Avesh can bat and hit the splice of bat hard with his bounce. He bowls 130 to 140.

Iyer and pr master samson both got out cheaply. Hopefully we saw the end of iyer in test matches .Musheer have to score big and make it real tight for no 5 spot

Duleep Trophy 2024: Mayank Agarwal-led India A finishes top of table; seals title

Mayank Agarwal-led India A won the Duleep Trophy 2024 title in style after picking up seven in the final session on Day 4 to win the third round encounter against India C by 132 runs in Anantapur on Sunday.

Mayank Agarwal-led India A won the Duleep Trophy 2024 title in style after picking up seven in the final session on Day 4 to win the third round encounter against India C by 132 runs in Anantapur on Sunday.

India A which needed an outright win to usurp India C to the top spot, managed to bowl out the opposition for 217 after setting them a fourth-innings target of 350. The team led by Mayank Agarwal had taken the first innings lead after reducing the opposition to 234 in reply to its 297 all out.

B. Sai Sudharsan scored 111 to keep India C in the hunt for a draw, supported by a 44-run knock by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, but the team was bowled out with less than three overs remaining in the day. A point from the encounter would have handed the title to Gaikwad’s men.

India B which was placed second in the table ahead of the third round, lost the chance to take advantage of India C’s slip up when it conceded the first innings lead to India D after a century by Sanju Samson. The team needed to better the result of India C to make it to the top of the table.

Set a target off 373 in the fourth innings, the team crumbled to 115 all out in 22.2 overs to end up with zero points from the third round encounter.

Sai Sudharshan again proved his class in tough situations. He was there till the end and showed great temperament with good defence. All the players like iyer, Samson, parag, Ishan are trying to hack and score quick runs on tough pitches to maintain their avg. Selection committee should not bother about 40 avg guys anymore as it's getting easy score a quick fire 40 after t20s .

Irani Cup 2024-25 Day 5 HIGHLIGHTS: Mumbai wins Irani Cup by virtue of first-innings lead vs Rest of India

Saransh Jain’s two quick wickets hinted at an exciting last day’s play. Tanush Kotian – the reliable allrounder – then found Mohit Avasthi for company as the duo’s record partnership ensured Mumbai laid its hands on the Irani Cup after a gap of 27 years.

Kotian and Avasthi added 158 runs for the ninth wicket – the highest ninth-wicket partnership in the Cup’s glorious history – before Mumbai declared the innings immediately after the latter raised his bat after a patient fifty. With early tea possible due to the declaration, the teams shook hands right away at the Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium and Mumbai rejoiced after captain Ajinkya Rahane accepted his second consecutive trophy.

Starting the day with a lead of 274, Mumbai had to bat out as long as possible to kill the game and not leave Rest of India (RoI) enough time to go for the chase. But Saransh the offie, scalped Sarfaraz Khan (missed the turn on the backfoot with Saransh bowling around the wicket) and Shardul Thakur (stumped after stepping out too soon) in the first six overs. At 171 for eight, and a lead of 292, Mumbai had to ensure it batted time.

Kotian and Avasthi managed both tasks with aplomb. From uncalled for injury breaks to unnecessary water breaks to multiple towelling breaks, obviously for slowing the game down, the duo batted patiently. Once Kotian had two reprieves soon after crossing his fifty, RoI appeared to have lost uncalled-for and waited for the inevitable.

The game trudged along at such a terrible pace that only 38 overs were bowled during the 240 minutes’ play on Day 5. While Avasthi blocked patiently for most of his knock, Kotian stepped out repeatedly and negated any turn and awkward bounce until Saransh and Manav Suthar – the two main spinners – were in action.

He opened up his shoulders once part-timers came in and completed his second First Class hundred soon after lunch, thanks to a quick single after a cut off B. Sai Sudharsan.

BCCI has unveiled a raft of changes to its domestic cricket rules, effective immediately

Key reforms include:

1. Mandatory retirement: Batters voluntarily retiring due to reasons other than injury, illness, or unforeseen circumstances will now be deemed dismissed.

2. Enhanced ball-tampering penalties: Using saliva on the ball will incur penalties.

3. Clarified boundary rules: Aborted runs will result in a four-run boundary if the ball crosses the boundary before batsmen re-cross.

4. Revised points system: The Col. CK Nayudu Trophy will adopt a new points allocation framework.

Himachal Pradesh just achieved something amazing in the Ranji Trophy! Against Uttarakhand, their top four batters - Shubham Arora, Prashant Chopra, Ankit Kalsi, and Ekant Singh - all scored centuries in the same innings! That's only the second time this has happened in Ranji Trophy history.

This incredible feat was first achieved by Goa in 2019. And get this, it's only the 14th time ever in first-class cricket that the top four batsmen have all scored centuries.

Here are the scores: Shubham Arora (118), Prashant Chopra (171), Ankit Kalsi (203 not out), and Ekant Singh (101). What an incredible performance by Himachal Pradesh

Mumbai have chased the joint third highest target in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history and qualify to Semi Finals.

222 - Baroda vs Tamil Nadu, Indore, 2024

During the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024–25 quarterfinal between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh (UP) on December 11 (Wednesday), Indian cricketers Nitish Rana and Ayush Badoni were involved in a heated exchange. The incident occurred on the third delivery of the 13th over in the first innings when Delhi skipper Ayush Badoni attempted a quick single off Nitish Rana.

Following the run, the UP all-rounder charged towards Badoni and exchanged some words. The situation escalated into a fierce argument, with Badoni responding in kind. The umpires had to intervene to separate the two players as tensions flared.

SMAT Final: Suryansh Shedge blitzkrieg helps Mumbai win 2nd title

Mumbai's Suryansh Shedge played an absolute blinder to guide his team to their 2nd Syed Mushtaq Ali title on Sunday, December 15. Shedge, who was bought by Punjab Kings in the IPL mega-auction hit 36* off just 15 balls, helped Mumbai win by 5 wickets vs Rajat Patidar's Madhya Pradesh.

Suryansh's tremendous lower-order heroics, supported by Atharva Ankolekar's 16* off 6 balls helped Mumbai chase down a target of 175 runs with 13 balls remaining. The duo completed the job for Mumbai after the team had lost heavyweights Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube during the chase.

While Mumbai lost wickets in regular intervals, they stuck to a professional T20 approach in the 175-run chase. The players tried to attack the bowlers throughout the chase, bar Suryakumar Yadav, who had the job of an anchor. Suryakumar top scored with 48 off 35 balls. before getting dismissed by Shivam Shukla in the 15th over of the game. Suryakumar was Mumbai's last wicket to fall.

Batters like Prithvi Shaw (10 off 6), Ajinkya Rahane (37 off 30), Shreyas Iyer (16 off 9), kept pressure on Madhya Pradesh, knowing well that they batted deep. The move to keep up with the required run rate paid off when Ankolekar and Shedge clicked, late in the innings.

RAJAT PATIDAR PLAYS BLINDER

Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh struggled to cut loose in the first innings of the match. After Shardul Thakur sent both openers packing (Arpit Gaud and Harsh Gawli), MP were stuck in a run, with Harpreet Singh playing a terrible innings (15 off 23). This delayed the entry of Rajat Patidar and Venkatesh Iyer, which meant that the duo had to score quick runs in very little time.

While Iyer got out (17 off 9), Patidar played a sensational innings off 81* off just 40 balls, helping MP reach a respectable total of 174 runs. Patidar played some incredible shots despite being under pressure to score runs.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter, retained by the franchise for Rs 11 crore, showed his class at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, hitting 6 fours and 6 boundaries. However, the batter was not able to save MP's blushes as the team nearly did not score enough runs on the flat deck of the Bengaluru ground.

Speaking after the match, Patidar admitted that they were at least 20 runs short on the day, and thanked the crowd for turning up for the final of a domestic tournament.

"This is not the result we wanted. Happy with the way the boys played throughout the tournament. We were 20-25 runs short today. Four-five players were playing this tournament for the first time, but happy with the efforts they put in. I always love playing here. Want to thank the fans for supporting us," Rajat Patidar said.

Shedge, who had played a blinder in the quarter-final of the tournament as well, was judged the player of the match for the final against MP.
