Bahawalpur beat Multan in third round of Quaid Trophy

Abbottabad, Bahawalpur, Lahore Whites, Peshawar and Rawalpindi bagged victories on the third day of the third round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 while the three Group C fixtures saw little play due to bad light.

At Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Bahawalpur beat Multan by 78 runs as they defended the 221-run target. At the start of day three, with a healthy 150-run lead, Bahawalpur were bundled out for 70 with Waseem Akram Jnr returning figures of 5-38. Multan, in turn, folded for 142 in 41.1 overs as Bahawalpur’s Muhammad Imran (4-31), Mehran Sanwal (3-36) and Gulfam Aziz (2-33) shared nine wickets among them.

Abbottabad beat Larkana by ten wickets at National Ground, Islamabad to register their second win of the tournament as they chased the 19-run target in just two overs. Larkana, who were 38 runs behind at the start of the day, slipped to 186 all out from 130-5 as Abbottabad’s Aqib Khan bagged 5-39.

At Marghzar Ground, Lahore Whites beat the home team Islamabad as they chased the 109-run target with five wickets in hand, after recovering from 54-5. Lahore Whites wrapped up Islamabad’s second innings for 155 all out after they continued from the overnight score of 129-8. Lahore Whites’ Ahmed Daniyal bagged his maiden first-class five-fer.

Peshawar romped to a nine-wicket win over AJK to hand them third consecutive loss at the Ashfaq Cricket Ground Sirdheri, Charsadda. AJK could only add 71 runs to their overnight second innings lead of 58 runs as they slumped to 171 all out from 100-1. Test spinner Sajid Khan took his match tally to 9-85 as he bagged four wickets. In turn, Maaz Sadaqat and Waqar Ahmed’s half-centuries helped Peshawar knock off the 130-run target in 25.5 overs.

Mohammad Abbas (4-43) and Nisar Ahmed (3-30) shared seven wickets among them. Only ten overs of play was possible at Multan Cricket Stadium which allowed Karachi Blues’ opening batter Abdullah Fazal to reach his maiden first-class century (122 not out) resuming from 96 as Blues went from 221-5 to 251-8 as bad light forced early close of play. At Rana Naved ul Hasan Academy, Sheikhupura, only 25.1 overs were bowled before bad light led to an early close. DM Jamali bowled out Sialkot for 451 after they continued from 370-5 as Danish Aziz bagged five-fer. In turn, DM Jamali were 25-3 in 11 overs with a 426-run deficit.

Players who couldn't even get into domestic teams previously are having fun due to pathetic pitches and the poor quality of the players. Some of the guys in the top charts are club level players. Sad to see.

Pathetic matches between Lahore Blues-Quetta, Larkana-Faisalabad, Hyderabad-Islamabad and DMJ-Lahore Blues.

Looks like we're back to the dark ages of FC cricket and substandard pitches.

There should be some serious questions asked by the journalist to the higher ups regarding this tournament. It is utterly pathetic and constant low scores where teams are being bundled cheaply and FC debutants are picking up for 7fer in their first innings.

There is no broadcast of the matches, no broadcast of even the A tours, it is over-bloated with teams and full of garbage players who don't deserve to be playing FC. Not to mention, every team only gets 5 matches before it gets triangular stage (what even is that and why?). This is supposed to the premier domestic tournament and look at how it's treated. Where are all those dumb mentors making more monthly salary than most players? Are they involved - if not, then why are in the world are they get paid what they are and how would you keep track of who's doing well or not besides the generic runs & wickets which often misses the greater context.

Go back to the domestic it was a few years ago and it was 12 teams in total and 6 & 6 divided in tiers. That domestic tournament was of high quality and it was players who began in tier 2 (like Abrar & Maaz Sadaqat) dominate the lower tier to get promotion to the top tier, dominate that like Abrar did before getting the national call. If you want to expand it to 8 & 8 teams instead, sure whatever but the way it is right now is a complete joke.

Just make the pitches like we had in champions cup and gauge player performance, the players are definitely not garbage specially the pacers , lots of pacers who bowls with good pace compare to trundlers brigade we had a decade ago.

Looking at some of the performance of players on YouTube videos. They look so poor and won't make FC teams. The 6 team was working perfectly fine and was producing results albeit the pitches needed to be better but those were better than uncles picking up wickets for fun.

No even sure what you can make out of this tournament and I certainly won't pick players based on this even for Shaheen squads.
