India cricketer KL Rahul married Athiya Shetty -- Bollywood actress and daughter of actor Sunil Shetty -- on Monday. While the couple hadn't made any official statement on the rumours of their marriage earlier, the two tying the knot on January 23 was an open secret. The wedding function reportedly took place at Sunil Shetty's Khandala Farmhouse. Soon after their marriage, the couple shared the pictures of its wedding and KL Rahul's teammate Virat Kohli and star tennis player Sania Mirza was quick to react to the post.

Suniel Shetty broke down in tears during Athiya-KL Rahul’s wedding pheras:

Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul’s wedding in Khandala was nothing short of a fairytale. Dad Suniel Shetty didn’t just host it at his plush bungalow, but personally looked into the prep. ETimes had exclusively reported how Suniel and Mana were overseeing the madap decoration and all other arrangements.

And just as the wedding rituals started, Suniel Shetty turned emotional. The actor turned teary as Athiya and KL Rahul started the pheras, reports Bollywoodlife. All through the wedding, Suniel was reportedly attending to everyone at the wedding and taking care of everyone. Soon after the rituals were over, Suniel Shetty and son Ahan stepped out to distribute sweets to the paps. Speaking about the wedding, Suniel Shetty shared, "It was a beautiful function and a close one. The wedding is officially done and I have become the father-in-law now.” Confirming the reception, he added, "I think we will definitely plan something post the IPL." When asked about playing the role of a father-in-law, Suniel Shetty stated, "I think the role is not new, I am still the father. For me my son is coming home, the 'in-law' chakkar should be out. I can play the role of a father well. Thank you so much everyone for the wishes."

Announcing their wedding to the world, Athiya and KL had shared, “Today, with our most loved ones, we got married in the home that’s given us immense joy and serenity. With a heart full of gratitude and love, we seek your blessings on this journey of togetherness.”

Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma gifted them a BMW car worth around 2.17 crore and MS Dhoni got the couple a Kawasaki Ninja bike worth around 80 lakhs.

Are such gifts common amongst the elite in India?

I feel its OTT and a bit of an insult for the poor.

Gifts should be private, IMO.

On a serious note, Upper Class and super rich do not care about religion. You can see it in Bollywood. Hindu-Muslim-Christian-Sikh marriages are extremely common.

Lavish weddings among elite folk are the norm everywhere especially in subcontinent. Please don’t tell me you haven’t heard such stories of indulgence in rich Pakistan-Punjabi weddings.

Anyways yes I don’t see the point of disclosing your expensive gifts. It clearly is showing off.

However it works both ways, people on sm will be besotted with it or hate it, win-win either ways.

Her Mother's parents are Hindu-Muslim. Only one among her Grandparents is a Muslim. Look at the wedding. It is a Hindu wedding. I don't see any Maulana there.
