That was tight, should've been given no-ball. Benefit of the doubt goes to the batsman.

Aussies always get benefit of umpiring in their home series

They have a fourth umpire to call no balls, and they still can't get it right? Unfreakingbelievable.

Umpiring decisions that bad made even with technology should be instantly fireable offences. It's like a doctor getting disbarred for being incompetent

Is 3rd empire on stones? Why can't match reffre or other officials interfere 3rd umpires shocking decision?

That is a no-ball

However the picture might be misleading because a frame earlier might give a better indication of where the foot may have landed

His foot hadn't landed in the frame before this one. This was the first frame with his foot on the ground.

Poor decision by Gough. No part of the foot was behind the line.

What a pity, Rizwan was playing well. Pakistan might have been looking at 250+

Nope. He had a flat landing. That is the correct frame to look at, the one after this makes it look even worse!

If the third umpire thinks that on the line is fine, there is something seriously wrong with the umpire or umpire school. The umpires are expected to know these rules, even a 2 year old knows these rules.

Expect an apology from the umpire at the least

How dumb are these umpires, they have so much technology to help them, yet they make so many mistakes.

Clear no ball, unbelievable but Aussies always get the rub of the green at home.

I have a confusing regarding one rule. When the feet has landed, if the protruding part of the shoe is behind the line(albeit in air) it is supposed to a legal delivery as is the case with spinner.

Taking that into consideration as well, it is still a no ball.

That's a clear no ball. Rizwan was playing well and could have supported Asad till the end of the day.

Clearly the Umpire has a different interpretation of the law than the rule book itself.
There should be no benefit of the doubt when adjudicating line calls. What’s worse he’s looking at slo-mo replays.

Pathetic decision

In grand scheme of things, it won't make a difference but still that's a wicket off a no ball.

Look at lee’s face. These guys are secretly making fun of it. Elite sarcasm

Old fogey umpires with their perpetual incompetence

They say line belongs to the umpire. Does that mean they can interpret anyway they want if foot is on the line?

I’m sorry but this old **** in a white coat should be fired.

He has absolutely no excuse for this decision.

No. That means it’s out not that it’s open to umpires interpretation. If that was the case then you would have different decisions each time on the whim of an umpire

Such a shame as Riz was looking good & putting the Aussies to the sword..

Yes with a sword made of plastic. Pakistani fans love a good excuse.

Rizwan played well but it was only a matter of time before he would have been dismissed. The umpire made a dumb decision but it didn’t impact the outcome whatsoever.

Plastic swords still do hurt. Having a sword fight with 2 plastic swords and getting hit on the fingers is the worst. Also being slapped with the side of the sword can also sting.

Mamoon everyone. The 21st century realisation of Pakistan’s disgrace everywhere and here to rub salt on your wounds at every given opportunity if you are sympathetic towards Pakistan

Does anyone have the video? Its hard to judge from a picture as if the foot landed behind the line but dragged across it won't be counted as a no ball.

Nevertheless, it looks like no ball from this pic.

How do you know? As a cricket player, I have been in few situations like that and I was always more careful because I knew I just made a mistake, which I should not repeat. And It is not like Rizwan was new at the crease, he scored 37 and hit 7 boundaries. You never know as it could have gone either way. The only thing we do know is that it was a no ball and Rizwan should not have been given out.

Test greats baffled by no-ball decision

Former Australian Test captain Allan Border was among the many stumped observers.

The front-foot no-ball rule states benefit of the doubt favours the bowler, but Border argued that it was clear cut.

"I'm trying to find something behind (the line) there but I just can't," Border said on Fox Cricket commentary.

Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie and Ricky Ponting joined the queue.

"I think that's the wrong call. I think it's a no-ball and should be recalled," Gillespie said on ABC radio.

Lee said even through Australian-tinted glasses he couldn't see how Rizwan wasn't recalled to the crease.

"I reckon that's hard on Pakistan, I think that's got to be called a no-ball," he said.

"You won't often hear me say this, but that's got to go to the batsman."

In commentary for with Channel Seven, Ponting had no doubt the wrong decision was made.

"I couldn't see any part of his foot land behind the line," he said.

Michael Gough is the 3rd umpire. Really hope he's unemployed after this game

Whose 3rd ump

Michael Gough I believe is the TV umpire. He should be suspended

If it's this is the case he should be suspended effective immediately. An official International umpire is unaware of basic cricketing rules!?

Fun Fact, Micheal Gough was one of the three International Umpires (Along with Ranmore Martinesz & Richard Illingworth) to have moderated the PSL in 2019. He could be back for another stint in the upcoming 2020 PSL as well :P

Lol @ the umpires. Such umpires should be banned. So stubborn to accept that they are wrong.

Absolutely pathetic and shameful decision!!

If he was in the PSL, then he needs to be blacklisted and not allowed back.

Mickey Arthur on the subject:

"Rizwan did a wonderful job in counter attacking and taking Pakistan to a position where they are still in the game at 240. He batted really well and gave Pakistan the initiative"

(Rizwan dismissal) "I can't believe it, that is just a no-ball. There's no part of the boot behind the line. The batsman gets the benefit of the line. In my opinion, that's an error by Michael Gough"

"I might have got a couple of demerit points there, I would've been racing straight to the match referee's office and making my views known. It doesn't help anybody but I would've gotten it off my chest"

He was looking so good, deserved another chance, but it happens. I hope the bowlers wreck havoc tomorrow. I am sensing Australia 157 all out tomorrow. Yasir Shah to take 6 wickets.

Happy to be proven wrong, but don't see Yasir taking more than 3. If we bowl them out cheaply then chances are it'll be one or two of our pacers wrecking havoc
