In a professional organisation there would be a proper recruitment process, independent of any political involvement, to recruit the best qualified candidate.

What's this - a coronation ? Don't doubt Sethi's role in PSL but wish this could have been handled better.

I will take Sethi over the likes of Shahryar, Ijaz Butt, Zaka Ashraf, Nasim Ashraf and any other PML N politician.

If we do want someone astute then we would need to headhunt someone from a big Pakistani bank like HBL or a corporation. For this role you need management expertise and communication skills not cricket.

Sethi is good for us, he is media man so knows how to create hype. He in the process of creating Pakistan cricket the brand so let him do his work.

Sethi has very, very close ties with PML-N. He is not the best choice out there to be PCB Chairman, but the way he has handled PSL in its first 2 years, he deserves a full term as PCB chairman.

Well deserved, he has good ties all around the world, Pak cricket will prosper under his chairmanship

Sethi has an economist background and has run his own media and publication businesses and has even been the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab. He has more than even qualifications, background, experience and now achievements in the form of the PSL to run the PCB.

What I like about him is he is intelligent, sharp and can read between the lines.

The only options at the moment. He has done wonders for Pakistan cricket, and has walked the talk. PSL would not have happened without him, and he is key to bringing cricket back to Pakistan. A lot of people suffer from Sethiphobia due to political reasons, but he should be judged by the work he has done for Pakistan cricket.

I don't know where Pak Cricket is heading when we appoint jokers as a chairman.

At least we'd have a single chairman, the two-chairmen show between Sethi and Shehry was bringing Pakistan cricket to more mess

Pakistan, the home of super-multi-talented people. This guy is a full time journalist. Is he gonna give up that job? highly unlikely. And the Patron could care less.

Has little experience heading a business unit. The domestic structure still a mess. Lied and made excuses regarding why he was bending over backward to support Big3. Under his watch we had the debacle in the last world cup and many other series. We are ranked at #8 under his watch. His CM Punjab job was on sifarish, as is this job. Has not cleaned up the buddha babba group in PCB.

This is all Zaka Ashrafs mess. He left Pakistan cricket isolated and defunct. With Sethi we have had cricket in Pakistan and world warming back to us again.

PCB New Chief In August, 2017

In my opinion if gov is sincear with pakistan cricket then they should appoint PCB cheif a cricketer not journalist.
and Javed Miandad is best option in Pakistan
what would you say?

Javed Miandad?Lol that would be a catastrophe of epic proportions.

Btw Najam Sethi has already been chosen as the next chairman.

It will be corrupt Sethi. It has already been decided.

It will be decided only in governer board meeting..

The PCB chief is an executive and managerial position.

A proven CEO needs to be in that position- someone likes Javed Afridi

But we've got Sethi to look forward to

More terrible times ahead it seems. Politics and corruption and stupid Shakeel Sheikhs type people will get a free hand.

We are doomed.

God help Pakistan cricket and you if your relying on Sethi. Have our standards fallen so low?

Where are the qualified educated x cricketers like Asif Iqbal, Majid Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Mushtaq Muhammad,...?? They should be involved in PCB business.

If PCB is government controlled and PM appoints PCB chairman, then God save PCB. Sports cannot be run like a government organisation, that too a third world government organisation full of inefficiency and corruption.

Afzaal Haider named PCB acting chairman to conduct elections

LAHORE: Justice (r) Afzaal Haider is named as the acting chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and has been tasked with holding elections for the new chief of the board within 30 days. Present PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan’s three-year term ends on August 8, after which Haider will formulate a new Board of Governors (BoG). Haider - set to receive the responsibilities in a few days at the Gaddafi Stadium - will also act as the new Election Commissioner and will be assisted by Deputy Election Commissioner Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana. His first task as the Election Commissioner will be to ask for nominations from the selected regions and departments for the coveted PCB chairman post. If more than one nomination is received, then elections will be held. However, there are strong chances that current PCB executive committee chairman Najam Sethi will be elected as the new chairman without any opposition. Sethi, 69, is considered to be the most sought-after person to fill the PCB chairman’s post when Shaharyar steps down, courtesy the former’s successful initiative of organising Pakistan Super League’s two editions - the second one featuring a landmark final in Lahore.

Meanwhile, he also boasts worthwhile credentials as the head of PCB’s three-man executive committee. Sethi has been recently named in the BoG along with Arif Ejaz by the patron of the PCB, Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif. Earlier, Shaharyar was also elected unopposed for his three-year term when Justice Sair Ali conducted elections as the Election Commissioner. Shaharyar, 83, had forwarded his resignation to the patron a few months ago but was asked to complete his term. He is currently in England on a holiday, but will return to Pakistan soon to preside over a BoG meeting. Among the 10 members of the BoG, two are appointed by the patron and apart from Sethi, a prominent corporate figure Ejaz was named by the PM. Ejaz is a renowned corporate executive who has worked as chief executive officer for Adamjee Insurance and KSB Pumps Industries. He had also served as director of the Lahore Stock Exchange, Hub Power Company Limited, Non-Executive Director Kohinoor Textile Industries and was on the board at Lahore University of Management Sciences, National Refinery Ltd., Pakistan Steel Mills Corp. He will fill the space left by Shaharyar in the BoG.

The members of the BoG were reduced from 14 to 10 in 2014 which now constitutes of four representatives of regional teams (top four teams from the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy) and four representatives of services organisations (the top four department sides). There is an 11th member of the BoG as well, who is an ex-oficio but a non-voting member courtesy being an official of the Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee. The new four regional representatives will be named by the Election Commissioner after discussion with the current, functional BoG on July 31. Presently, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi and Peshawar have their representatives sitting in the BoG, but if the rules of rotation are applied, representatives of Lahore, FATA, Faisalabad and Multan are set to earn a place among the BoG. Meanwhile, among the services organisations, WAPDA and UBL are supposed to retain their positions while HBL and SSGC are going to replace SNGPL and NBP.

I wonder what will be the scenario when Sethi takes over, and the cases for Sharjeel and Latif proceed as imagined...

PCB appoints new members of board of governors

LAHORE - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed new Board of Governors (BoG) of four regions including Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) president Khawaja Nadeem Ahmad for a term of three years.

According to the PCB notification, besides Khawaja Nadeem, three other regional cricket heads have been made the members of the governing board, who are Murad Ali of Quetta and Nouman Butt from Sialkot while the representation from FATA, the fourth BoG member, has yet to come as the elections of the FATA cricket body has yet to take place.

Apart from four regional cricket heads, the governing board also has the presentation from four departments including Mansoor Masood Khan (UBL), Lt Gen (r) Muzammal Hussain (Wapda) and Col Sohaib (SSGC). Habib Bank has not finalized the nomination of its representative in the BoG. The new governing board will elect the new PCB chairman during its first meeting on August 9 and Najam Sethi is the strong candidate to hold this hot seat for a fresh term of three years along with Arif Ejaz for the slot of PCB chairman executive committee.

Lahore has finally got its representation in the governing board after almost 10 years and last time, it was represented by its former late president Amir Hayat Khan Rokhari in 2008. “It is a big honour for LCCA for getting into the BoG and it is really good to see LCCA back into the board of governors,” Kh Nadeem said here on Wednesday.

He said his specific mandate is working in close coordination with the PCB for the cause of the game at the national level especially for club cricket at LCCA. "The PCB is taking solid measures to better the domestic cricket structure to make the domestic events results oriented and to help improve the quality of our cricket, for which there is a dire need to supplement these efforts from the platform of the regional bodies,” said Nadeem, who will be contesting for the third successive term as LCCA president this month. He was first elected LCCA chief in 2010 and then in 2014.

He said club cricket is the backbone of our national cricket and it is serving as a pipeline to produce talented cricketers for the Pakistan senior and junior cricket teams. The only way to strengthen Pakistan cricket is to generate maximum cricket activity at grassroots level,” he said.

“The LCCA gained success in a number of national level tournaments in the recent past due to a strong club system, which also helped in producing high-quality cricketers, who are now part of the national senior and junior teams. If the PCB includes new national club-level tournament in its domestic calendar, we will welcome it and organise them to hunt new talent,” he added.

Former PCB chiefs back Sethi for chairman’s post

LAHORE: Two former chairmen of the Pakistan Cricket Board have backed the nomination of Executive Committee head Najam Sethi as the next PCB chairman in place of Shaharyar Mohammad Khan whose three-year term ended on Sunday.

The election for new PCB chairman is expected to be held later this week and Sethi is the most prominent nominee for the post.

Speaking to a private TV channel on Sunday evening, former PCB chairman Khalid Mahmood praised Sethi for his outstanding work for the cricket board and Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“When I first met Sethi in 2013, I wasn’t too impressed, but my opinion has changed about him as he has proved his credentials as a fine administrator with some stellar work for the PCB, especially by setting up the hugely successful PSL,” said Khalid.

“The tournament has provided a great platform for young Pakistan players and some of the new talent was instrumental in the ICC Champions Trophy triumph in England. I feel that Sethi is the best choice to replace Shaharyar Khan now.”

Another former PCB Chairman retired Gen Tauqir Zia echoed Khalid’s sentiments. Appearing in a TV sports show on Sunday, Tauqir backed Sethi’s nomination and termed him ‘the best choice to lead the PCB.’

“Sethi in my opinion is more suited than anyone to run the PCB. Even if I was given a chance to be chairman, I would gladly withdraw my nomination for him since he holds rich experience of administration, especially through his outstanding work for the PSL,” said Tauqir.

“In recent years, Sethi has gathered a firm grip over cricket affairs as well on the day-to-day affairs of the cricket board. Some of his critics are seemingly driven by an agenda and he should not worry about them, if you ask me.”

Former cricketers bat for Sethi

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to elect a new chairman, and former cricketers believe Najam Sethi is the best choice considering his experience and achievements during his tenure as head of the Executive Committee and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman.

The election of the new head is taking place today at the PCB headquarters where a new chairman will take charge from Shaharyar Khan.

Sethi, who was recently named in the Board of Governors by the Patron of the PCB, is the strongest candidate, most likely to be elected unopposed.

Pakistan legend Wasim Akram threw his weight behind Sethi as the new chairman, applauding his landmark achievement of giving Pakistan its own cricket league.

“I support him all the way and the main reason is PSL,” said Wasim. “Many people before him discussed the idea of PSL but no one was able to materialise the plans. Sethi not only made is possible, but organised two successful editions of Pakistan’s top class T20 league and also the final of the second edition in Lahore.”

He continued: “Now with the inclusion of the sixth team, it will become better and better and in the end, the benefit is for Pakistan cricket.”

Sethi has been the head of PCB’s most powerful committee during the last term and Wasim believes he has the hands-on experience of running board’s everyday affairs.

“Four years are enough [to understand any system] and now he knows which person to use for what job. He is fully aware of all the staff and management, which makes him the best candidate,” said Wasim.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes Sethi is the man you can trust to take PCB to the top.

“Sethi is the best candidate for the chairmanship of PCB and he will win. He made the PSL a big success and he will do the same with PCB,” said Latif. “He has been trying to invite international teams to Pakistan and he will succeed in that too. He has also been working on youngsters. The team is on the top, the captain is on the top, PSL is on the top and now he will take PCB on to the top,” he said.

Latif, however, suggested Sethi to always keep merit the top priority. “He will be elected on merit so he should keep merit as his top priority,” he said. “Meanwhile, if he works on grassroots cricket, in schools and colleges, he will be remembered by the whole nation.”

Former opener and renowned commentator Ramiz Raja also wished Sethi best of luck. “I wish Sethi is elected as chairman. He has the ability and passion to make things possible for the betterment of cricket, and PSL is the main proof of his perfect administrative skills,” said Ramiz.
