Lahore Qalandars’ Player Development Program over the three years has engaged above 500,000 youngsters and given them a promising platform to showcase their talent and make a mark in the cricketing world. Many gems have been found who have impressed everyone with their skills and talent and are continuing to achieve great heights in their career.

This year Lahore Qalandars expanded its horizon by incorporating Gilgit & KPK along with Kashmir and Punjab in the Player Development Program. Exceptional talent swarmed the stadiums in all the cities and a Development Squad of 16 exceptionally talented youngsters was formed.

The squad represented Lahore Qalandars and Pakistan in Abu Dhabi T20 this year where they competed with some of the best cricket franchises from all over the world and ended up winning the cup.

After a successful tour of Abu Dhabi, Lahore Qalandars’ Development Squad will now be travelling to Sydney, Australia to play the Quin Series where they will compete against Sydney Thunder, Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Sixers and Auckland Aces. A send-off for Qalandars was organized which was attended by Australian High Commissioner, Ms. Margaret Adamson.

Ms Adamson said, "So many promising players being developed by Lahore Qalandars. I wish them the best as they tour Australia for the Big Bash League. Cricket runs in the blood of every Australian and Pakistani!"

Following the send-off, a meet up with Governor Punjab, Chaudry Sarwar took place in Governor House where he praised Lahore Qalandars’ efforts of the development of cricket in Pakistan.

"It is exceptional how Lahore Qalandars are shaping the future of Pakistan's youngsters. I wish them all the best for their future and Im hopeful the youngsters will perform brilliantly in the Quin Series," said Governor Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar.

The squad representing Lahore Qalandars in the Quin Series includes: Bilal Irshad, Muhammad Faizan, Tariq Nawaz, Sajjad Hashmi, Sohail Akhtar, Shafqatullah, Shehzad Ali, Raja Farzan, Ali Majid, Maaz Khan, Ahsan Mirza, Haris Rauf, Salman Irshad, Dilber Hussain, Syed Hasnain Shah, Imran Nazir, Muhammad Mubashir, Phil Salt and Antum Naqvi.

Matches will begin from 5th November, 2018 and Lahore Qalandars will face Sydney Thunder in the first match.

Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar hosted the Qalandars and congratulated them for a successful season of Player Development Program and for winning Abu Dhabi T20. He wished the youngsters all the best for the upcoming Quin Series in Australia.

We/LQ got it pretty much spot on (depending on who you ask :p). Surprised by the omission of batsman Ashir Malik and left arm spinner Asad Rafique, but their omission is understandable given the batting and spin depth in the squad.

Disappointments:
i) Imran Nazir is a waste of space
ii) Fast bowling options are disappointing (with the exception of Rauf and Irshad.)

Do you know who Syed Hasnain Shah and Muhammad Mubashir are?

Looks like LQ have cracked the code for success. Play against developmental sides with a relatively older and more experienced squad. That would work out well for them in PSL.

When will people like Aqib Javed will learn how to dress up for the occasion ?

Would Lahore Qalandars be able to translate anything of this into performance in the next year's PSL??

Would Lahore Qalandars be able to translate anything of this into performance in the next year's PSL??

it depends who chose the team in the draft and who is the coach and select playing x1 on match day. if it would be Aqib Javed then Qalandars will be at bottom most once again. Aqib didnt chose batsmen last year but ended up selecting 11 bowlers. Then on match day he didn't give chance to allorunders like Amir yamin, Bilal Asif and persisted with a weak batting and a super long tail resulting into batting collapse over collapse. I hope he stay away from Cricket or should be sacked from LQ

I don’t think Imran Nazir is actually playing for them, just probably said it to draw attention to the tournament
Haven’t seen Nazir in any of the squad pics or videos since they have travelled to Australia

Qalandars just beat Sydney Sixers defending 116. Great bowling by Farzan Raja and Maaz Khan

Looks like Maaz khan may earn LQ PSL contract in emerging category and Farzan Raja or Haris Rauf too in Silver.

From Lahore Qalandars Media:

Sydney Thunder Development XI beat Lahore Qalandars Development Squad in the play off of the Quin Series by 60 runs.

Sydney Thunder Development XI batted first and scored a total of 136 runs. They lost a few early wickets courtesy great bowling spells by Qalandars Maaz Khan, Dilber Hussain and Salman Irshad who took one wicket each, but managed to bring up the total to 136 runs in the last few overs.

The second innings started off on a high with Sohail Akhtar and Bilal Irshad opening. Qalandars were unlucky as wickets started falling quickly making the run chase difficult for the youngsters.
The top scorer for Qalandars was Bilal Irshad who scored 31 runs in 15 balls with the help of one 4 and four 6s.

Lahore Qalandars couldn't make it to the final of Quin Series but we saw some great performances by the youngsters throughout who impressed everyone with their skills.

LQ need to understand that they can't find a batsman from street trials of 3/4 balls. You cant judge a batsman in few balls. they will always find bowlers from streets. this is their 3rd tour of Sydney and on every tour the batting failed and bowlers shined. Next time they should pick batsmen from first class for the sydney tour.

Just a few months ago Maaz Khan was playing cricket on the war-torn streets of northern Pakistan.

Today the 18-year-old leg spinner is one of the country's rising stars.

"My life has completely changed," Khan said.

"I was wandering the streets or working as a labourer [before] coming here.

"I never imagined travelling to Australia."

Today, Khan is a member of the Lahore Qalandars — a Pakistani domestic T20 Super League team that was last season captained by New Zealand star Brendon McCullum.

The team is touring Sydney this week taking on some opponents from the domestic Big Bash League.

But Khan's journey to Australia, along with a number of his teammates, is an extrodinary tale of talent, luck and coming together.

Khan was one of a handful selected from 500,000 boys and young men who have trialled for selection for the team over the past three years.

They come from disadvantaged areas such as Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit.

Farzan Raja, 21, is another lucky one.

"I thought let's give it a chance," he told the ABC at a suburban ground in Sydney this week.

"This is the moment I've been waiting for, this trial has turned my life into something that I always wanted to be."

The initiative is the brainchild of Aaqib Javed, a former Pakistani international who was part of the country's golden era during the early 1990s.

The 46-year-old former fast bowler turned Qalandars head coach was part of Pakistan's winning 1992 World Cup team and played 22 tests and 163 One Day Internationals for his country.

Yet, he said his biggest achievement in his cricket life has been his involvement with the Qalanders program to give disadvantaged youngsters a chance in the bigtime.

"This is different, bringing opportunity to all of the people, everyone, whoever is interested in this game," he said.

"Even if you don't have shoes, if you don't have pads, or a bat, you don't have to bring anything [to the trial]."

Brilliant fast bowling with a tennis ball

The initiative is unearthing some promising prodigies for the team.

Haris Rauf unleashes the ball down the pitch at 150 kilometres per hour, the type of speed recorded by Pakistan fast-bowling legend Shoaib Akhtar.

Before he was discovered by the Qalandars last year Rauf had only played with a soft tennis ball.

In July's T20 against Australia, Qalandar teenage quick Shaheen Afridi claimed three Australian scalps, including captain Aaron Finch.

He was discovered along the war-torn Afghan border.

"The trouble areas, the hate zone of terrorism, we went there and the people wanted to play," Javed said.

"They wanted to impress, but there's no opportunities."

Today, there is.

Is this even a thing?

These T20 leagues are usually a hastily assembled bunch prior to the month long tournament, with high profile foreign recruits forming the bulk of the glamour and skill.

What is this meant to achieve, besides some PR?

Met Tariq Nawaz (wk batsman) at airport a few days ago. He scored heavily in qalandars rising stars tournament. Told me he has got NBP contract for domestic cricket. Unfortunately he came back from australia even before tournament started due to some family issues. He told quite a few very interesting stories.

These ‘finds’ always end up being severely limited and I’m expecting the same

Atif Rana said “Lahore Qalandars have decided to host the tournament for the first time at the community level. The three-day trials were held at Qalandars High Performance Center in which more than 10,000 athletes have given trials. So many players are happy to take part in the trials. He added Qalandars management is working to create a vibrant sports culture in the country and hopes to see future cricketers coming out of these Programs”

The massive turnout at the trials was a hope that Qalandars have managed to instigate for a promising future of cricket in the country. Hats off to Fawad rana, he's gone over the country every season doing trials, he's done the most development with peshawar zalmi close behind. The others are hopeless.

Tournament has started.

The broadcast quality has worsened and the graphics are terrible.

In addition, now that the matches are 10 overs, bowlers will be rendered useless. Waste of time, this league.

Having watched some footage of this tournament, the fast bowling standards looks really high it looks like most of the bowlers are 135k+ which is amazing compared to last year, also the power hitters are good too.

Bhatti Bahadurs and Gulberg Nawabs have qualified for the final Pepsi Battle of Qalandars to be played tonight at 7pm Pak time

Really good upcoming bowlers like Mamoon Riaz , Ahmed Hasan ,Muhammad Asraf , Majid Ali and Asadullah should get a FC 2nd XI team atleast.

Mamoon Riaz played in the Grade II Patron's Trophy last year, he was the 5th highest wicket-taker (third amongst pacers).

Guys like him who miss out on selection for FC teams (1st or 2nd XI) are in a tough position right now because there's no secondary level at the moment where they can make a case for themselves.
