20 push ups for one false shot. Nice! Have a feeling that he did plenty more lol.

Why are they wasting time on his batting when he does not have to bat this match

Hopefully its practice for the next game... WHich might explain why the batting coach is throwing down spin (middle order) and he is being asked to play along the floor regardless its' a four or not

Exactly what our batsmen need!!!

They learn to bat properly whilst getting fit at the same time.

Hopefully they have similar sort of punishment when doing fielding drills.

Very interesting - no nonsense approach.

Take practice seriously and take match time seriously.

If you are making mistakes in practice then they will affect your performance during a match situation.

Excellent from the coaching staff.

This is why I truly believe Mickey and Inzi combo is the best thing for Pakistan... And we can see the results - - - Youth is standing up. And delivering (Imam, Azam, Shadab, Faheem, Fakhar) ... And we don't always have to rely on 'experienced' players (Hafeez, Asad, Azhar)

Arthur’s has been the best coach after Woolmer. Hope they extend his tenure beyond 2019.

He has transformed this once upon a time timid tuk tuk side.

I backed this guy from the start because he is a no-nonsense hard taskmaster who takes crap from nobody. Yes he wasn't suited to Australia but he is exactly what we needed.

His contract should be extended to the 2023 World Cup and given seat on the Board as a cricket advisor once he finishes coaching.

Incredible. He's changing the culture of Pakistan cricket. This is why I always backed him.

Wow. Teaching via reinforcement. Great stuff. I remember when I was younger and just thinking hypothetically what I'd do if I was Pakistan coach, one thing was making players do some form of exercise for a bad ball etc and Mickey Arthur is doing exactly that. Looks like we have a good un :)

Grant Flower spent a lot of time working with Sami Aslam and Fakhar Zaman this morning.

Flower isn't one of those coaches who shouts a lot who creates a scene, rather when the batsmen made a mistake he would just give them one of those looks and that was enough.

Waqar Younis nods his head.

“Fakhar you keep practice here, I go eat biryani. Bye bye”

Running laps or doing push ups is fine, but throwing a ball at someone? Didnt look like a hard throw but still.

Well if its working I guess we shouldnt complain.

Agreed, I don't think throwing a ball at someone is a good practice.

Excellent stuff.

Clearly there is a serious and light hearted element to this. A bit of fun but making them realize that mistakes are punishable. Creating the right mind set. Well done Mickey.

As you saw, it was a very gentle throw. It's clearly meant as light hearted and I suspect it's taken in this context whilst making the players aware that mistakes are costly. Completely fine.

Have a feeling this is more of Fakhar regime than Mickey's they are pro cricketers and should not be training like school kids.

Whoever's idea it is - it is done without malice so lets enjoy it!

Fantastic stuff.

On the other side, we are stuck with useless Shastri.

Exactly, it was light-hearted, but the message was there - we spotted you making a mistake, don't let it happen again.

Think India will be eyeing up Dravid [if his tiff with Kohli is resolved] or someone like Fleming/Vettori, both of which have had really good relationships with Dhoni and Kohli in the IPL. In fact didn't Kohli want Vettori to be named as the next coach before PG Tips was named?

They have won a test match against good team after having horrible few test matches. Now everything coaches do is made to look like something great. Until I see him taking the team to one of top three teams, I would not call him a good or great coach.

Tbh, it looks silly. These kinda things work only with school kids to make them focus more. Fakhar Zaman is trying to get into the Pakistan Test side. You don’t have to make him do push-ups or throw balls at him just to improve his concentration.

These days everything Mickey does is great. If Pakistan lose a series, then he doesn’t understand Pakistan cricket or the team dynamics well. I’m honestly very surprised to see some of you guys endorsing this kinda fancy approach to coaching. The problem with most people on PP is that you let success get to your head and failure get to your heart.

You have to understand where PAK fans are coming from.

Coaches who were selected on their sporting glory to coaches who were found dead in their hotel room.

The team has been in a downwards spiral since post 2003 with players caught fixing and doping. Drama queens and non-performing seniors who refuse to leave the spotlight.

Than all of a sudden you have a proven world class coach who has led his team to an ICC Tournamnet victory, whitewashes against SL (good and bad ones I know) and Test Series Draws against ENG and now a looming victory.

He has installed discipline to where it was disorder once with players lacking fitness and being appointed on reasons other than merit. He has inducted fresh blood and seasoned experience with a professional approach which is more or less a dream for any supporter. If you had asked or told any PAK supporter this two years ago, they would have accepted it without any bargain.

I agree with the fitness part and the introduction of young talent. I was only talking about this particular drill.

Afridi would have one 1000s of pushups

I think Mickey would have realised that making mistakes while batting is what Afridi does best. He would have put him at 8/9 after Shadab etc. So there wouldn't have been many expectations from his batting thus no push ups.
