Salman Butt during commentary of match between Pakistan and UAE in ACC Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024:

"A few years ago, Ahmed Daniyal was a fat chubby boy."

"He has worked hard, and if you see him now, you would never imagine that he used to be a fat boy. He looks like an athlete now."
 
What has he done recently or in the past to warrant a place in the T20I and ODI side of Pakistan?
 
Lahore Whites' Ahmed Daniyal excelled with the ball, helping his side defeat Islamabad in the third round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024, securing impressive match figures of 7/88 (2/54 and 5/34).

3-fer for Ahmed Daniyal kept Multan Sultans at bay in match 25 of PSL X. His figures were 3/17 against them

Seems to have been around for a few years now building up his game. Looks a really solid intelligent all rounder. Like his control over his line and length and seems to know what ball to bowl and when. Doesn’t go too flat out every ball and lose the plot. Good prospect
 
Ahmed Daniyal at the post-match presentation:

"My plan for tonight, along with the other bowlers, was to keep it simple and bowl wicket to wicket. The slower ball was working well, so we decided to mix it up to deceive the batters.

Although I’ve bowled with the new ball before, I actually enjoy bowling in the middle and later phases of the game. With my slower ball and variations, I feel more comfortable in those phases.

The wicket of Tayyab Tahir was particularly satisfying because once he gets going, he’s tough to stop."
 

Ahmed Daniyal shared following thoughts on different topics in a recent interview:​


On Representing Pakistan​

"I am very happy that I am going to play in Pakistan. Everyone wants to represent Pakistan and Alhamdulillah, Allah gave me the opportunity to be included in the Pakistan team. Alhamdulillah, I am going to play for Pakistan."

The NCA Camp and Selection Process​

"There was a camp of 46 players at the NCA, where we received a lot of training in bowling, batting, and fielding. I had no idea that my name would be included for Pakistan. I was just working hard with our coaches—Wahab Bhai was the coach, and Rahan Bhai was discussing bowling plans with me, while Saqib Bhai was also involved in our preparation. Our training was going very well. After that, I played practice matches and had to perform there. Alhamdulillah, through that process, my name came up for Pakistan, and today I am sitting here."

Growth in the Champions Cup​

"My main tournament was the Champions Cup, where I played under the captaincy of Shaheen Bhai for the Lines team. My maturity in bowling started from there. The tournament went very well, especially because Shaheen Bhai, being a fast bowler like me, would discuss everything with me—even during matches, I would ask him what bowling should be done at certain times."

Experience in the Emerging Asia Cup​

"After that, Alhamdulillah, I went to Oman to play for Pakistan in the Emerging Asia Cup. Many other players were there, and I shared the dressing room with them, constantly learning and talking to them. My relationship with the players has been very good, Alhamdulillah. I got the opportunity to learn a lot."

Learning from Coaches and Senior Players​

"I talk to Aaqib Bhai a lot, always asking what further improvements I can make. This has been a key point for me—to play cricket with these players who are already representing Pakistan and will continue to do so in the future, Insha Allah. Learning from them has been a very important stage for me."

Adapting Bowling Roles​

"I used to bowl mainly after the powerplay, but when I played in the Lines under Shan Bhai, he also made me bowl with the new ball, which I practiced. I kept talking to Shan Bhai, who is like a world number one bowler—our prime bowler. I would discuss with him how to bowl with the old ball, the semi-new ball, and also the new ball, depending on conditions. I worked on that in foreign practice. Waqar Bhai was my coach and mentor, and I learned a lot from him as well. I got a lot of help from my mentor and captain in the Champions Cup."

PSL Experience​

"My experience in the PSL was very good. After playing the Champions Cup and National T20, it was time for PSL. Alhamdulillah, I played with Peshawar Zalmi. There was pressure because I was going to play a PSL match after 35 matches. Previously, I was with the team but did not get a chance to play due to the presence of big names. When Peshawar Zalmi picked me, I was very excited. When I finally got the chance to play, I was a little nervous after such a long time, wondering how my performance would be. I thought if I got a good start, I could regain my confidence. Alhamdulillah, after bowling one or two balls, I started gaining confidence, and it felt like a normal match. My PSL went very well. I shared a room with Baru Bhai, and the learning process continued. I always try to learn from every player, wherever I am, and take bowling tips that benefit me. This has been a plus point for me and has led to much improvement in my bowling."

Experience in Big Bash and Other Leagues​

"I played T10 for the first time, and immediately after that, my name came up for the Big Bash. There was a lot of excitement and happiness to be part of such a big league, where all the top players come to play. When I went there, players like Maxwell, Stoinis, Jappa, and even Harris Rauf were in my team. I would talk to Harris Rauf about the atmosphere, wicket conditions, and what kind of bowling to do. Overall, wherever I have played cricket so far, Mashallah, it has been a very good experience for me. I always focus on learning, and sharing the dressing room and ground with players like Harris Rauf has helped me a lot."

Journey of Hard Work​

"Basically, my journey of hard work started from the very beginning. I kept playing throughout—PSL, Big Bash, and then we became champions in domestic cricket with the Champions Cup. Through this entire process, Alhamdulillah, I kept working hard, and day by day, tournament by tournament, I kept improving. Alhamdulillah, today I am sitting here, Insha Allah, with the Pakistan team."
 
Ahmed Daniyal impressed with a double strike during his economical spell in match 9 of Asia Cup Rising Stars as he conceded only 7 runs.
 
When he joined and played for LQ, i swear i thought i had never seen such a rubbish bowler.

But, few years later, this guy has massively improved. He developed into a very good bowler than can bowl in death overs
 
Ahmad Danyal is playing cricket like a man who already knows his future in the national side. There’s something different about him: calm eyes, sharp brain, and street-smart bowling that breaks batters mentally before it gets them physically. Where other pacer was panicing, he calculated. Where Shahid Aziz waz spraying the ball, he landed it like he’s using GPS.

Danyal doesn’t just bowl overs he dictated the pace of the Final. He read the batter, studied the situation, and delivered exactly what the moment demanded. Delievered twice in Emerging Cup Final today in crunch situations, It’s rare to see a young fast bowler with this much control, composure, and cricket intelligence.

Forget hype this is the kind of player who wins matches quietly while everyone else is making noise. Pakistan needs him. Simple.
 
he’s a pretty decent hitter as well. Agree that he’s a perfect package for t20is
 
hopefully he is not picked from tapeball cricket by lq from player development. Hopefully he has played club cricket and not tapeball
 
Until now , I was not too impressed with his player , thought he was not built for a fast bolwer, too short for it. But , he possesses a quality which is extremely rarely found in Pakistani crickters , that's metal strenth and this guys has in him in abundance . He needs to be upgraded to national side just because of that and he might be your next man of crisis.
 
He is a complete package, better than those playing for Pakistan right now. He is also handy batsman. He should be selected ASAP

This seems a bit over tuned. He's around 138-144 kph range and bowls a lot of slower deliveries in between.

The good thing is that he has shown signs of improvement and lengthened his runup but he's still not someone who has proven his potential with the bat.

He bowled 146.2 against bd on his debut.
