[PICTURES/VIDEOS] "I am hoping I will be given consistent chances to prove myself in ODIs" : Hussain Talat

Needs to play some golf to help him keep his head and eyes over the ball when swinging the bat. Hafeez should help him out.
 
People are way too harsh on him here. He’s been in supreme form in domestic cricket this season and deserved to be given more than one chance. Maybe T20s isn’t his best format and he looks like another one of the dumb, low IQ cricketers we continuously produce.
 
I have a soft spot for him since his cousin is a friend of mine. But honestly don't think he is cut for international cricket.

Keep hearing he is more suited to ODI cricket or test matches, so I would quite like to see him given an opportunity in longer form cricket. Could be he just needs a format where he can play proper cricket shots and needs time to get going.

Hes not good enough as a pure bateman in any format he has to work on his bowling

Yep, that's his issue. He can't play as a specialist bat ahead of Saud Shakeel, Kamran Ghulam or Usman Salahuddin in Tests.

We know he doesn't have the power game for T20s. He possibly could play ODIs but you'd rather invest in players who can feature in both white ball formats.

At least he got a proper run though after his National T20 displays so he can't say he didn't get any chances.

Danish Aziz is the next cab off the rank now.

National T20 is an extremely low quality tournament, It should never be a criteria for selection of any player

His stats in last two PSLs are awful

2019 PSL Avg 14.88 SR 120.72
2020 PSL Avg 20.33 SR 103.38

So why wouldn't team management at least try Danish in the last T20I instead of this clown, he wouldn't have done any worse.

The only position he can bat in the odis is at 5 but he doesnt make my team.

What about his performances in the QeA trophy before he went away with the A team? You can’t deny that he’s been in probably the form of his life domestic wise. The fact that he wasn’t able to translate that in to the 3 games here is another story.

If only he worked on his bowling a bit more he would be a very handy number 7 in Tests but like I said earlier he just seems abit dumb and I question his commitment.

That was a master stroke by Misbah.

If Danish had played the 3rd T20 and scored 40 odd, that would have meant bye bye to Iftikhar.

It seems like Iftikhar will still be on that plane to SA.
 
Talat is good at grinding it out but he just isn’t a natural batsman. It’s amazing how he still lacks that timing considering how much cricket he has played now.

In my opinion this isn’t a technical or mental issue - he just doesn’t have it in him to be a top level batsman. However his decent temperament mean he will always grind out runs at the domestic level.
 
Big opportunity for Talat today. 77 from 54 needed, chase under control and requiring some solid, steady, level-headed batting to get his team over the line. Started well too, 21 from 14 balls.
 
Good enough for this league but not T20 international standard. He simply doesn't have the power game against fast bowlers

Those were pervious seasons, but him performing today doesn't change the fact he isn't T20 international material. His shot making against fast bowlers is way too limited

I dont mind if a new player fails in 3 innings. But it was the manner in which Talat was getting out and his overall batting approach which concerned me.

I do think that he may be suitable to the longer version of the game where he doesnt need to accelerate/slog. He is a decent part time pacer and that is what I like about him.

He is just not good enough. It is amazing selectors picked this guy for the national side.

To be honest his selection was justified in one of the formats.

Performed well in QeA and National T20 cup. He deserved the selection but like many others has not performed to the potential and not snatched his chances.
 
A now and then player.

He'll perform now and then but not on a consistent basis.

The range of shots just isn't there.
 
Apart from cute scoop shots, he is no better than no 11 against fast bowlers. No other scoring shots.
 
He doesnt have it in him. Looks incredibly nervous the moment he puts on a Pakistan Jersey.
 
He is not a prospect for Pakistan. Can't play fast bowling at all

I can't believe people have such short memories.

It's like you just saw him play for Pakistan and fail miserably...and that too for the second time.

This isn't even him at his best in domestic. He was in blistering form in the last NT20 Cup. And we all saw how he followed that up when he played for Pakistan.

He's a mental midget who shouldn't even be in the conversation for national team selection.

Struggles against wrist spin and Shamsi got him throughout the 3 match T20 series. However, some others are currently struggling against every kind of bowling.

So no solutions to middle order issues, only thing is to chose which one is better
 
He just has two shots against Pace i.e Scoop and Guiding towards Third Man.
In all other shots, he either gets beaten or is late against Pace.
He is also very poor against Wrist Spin.
As seen by his records, for a Batsman batting in Middle Order, he averages in Mid 30s in FC and 38s in List A (in the same, remember our iftikhar averages in 50s) , which is Poor.
In today's inning, he was dropped by iftikhar of Spin in early part of his Inning.
His Bowling isn't any good either. Bowling some Hamad Azam type pies,.
64M 18W 57A 6.5 E in List A.
Unless he work on these which i suspect at stage of his career, he will be a dud at International level.
He will continue to play domestic cricket for few more years as in few years domestic will be more competitive & he will be weeded out and Psl contract here & there and then he will be forgotten.

I've seen every innings he has ever played for Pakistan. At no point did he show me he had the capability to handle pressure or be successful at the highest level. And for that all you have to do is see his innings against South Africa in the 2018 T20I series played there. Might have been the second match where all the responsibility to finish the game was on him and the way he bulked under the pressure was simply embarrassing to witness. Ended up sinking the game and the series for Pakistan. I knew then and there that this guy is not cut out for international cricket, and since then he has done nothing to change my opinion of him.

There are other many options. Players who I consider mediocre, but still better than him.
 
Extremely poor against 140+ . Very limited strokeplayer so to say that he has a problem with only wrist spin has not watched him enough. He is simply not international material.

Ofcourse its not like he is immortal against other styles of bowling but, my point regarding wrist spin is based upon his recent struggles against that type of bowling and stats/recent dismissals will prove that.

Yes, that 2018 innings was one of the worst I have seen by a Pakistani batsman in T20I cricket. Not sure what was the infatuation to have him at no 3 during that period as he never batted much that highly even in domestic cricket. Pacing of that innings was horrible.

He is no way a world beater. However, he is one of the options in the abyss of lack of options.

I don't know about that. I would prefer an inexperienced but talented player over him. Because atleast that player wouldn't have embarrassed himself the way Talat has for Pakistan.

For me, Talat is on the blacklist of players who should never play for Pakistan again. It has Azam Khan at the very top obviously. But Asif Ali, Sharjeel, Akmals, Shehzad are just some of the names on there too.

I think Khushdil is worth a try. Maybe not at the World Cup, but I don't see why he can't get the same chances that Talat got. For the WC, Shoaib Malik is the best batsman not in the squad. All of these guys stand head and shoulders above Talat, who is a mental midget and should automatically be disqualified from ever playing for Pakistan again just because he has shown multiple times how ill-equipped he is at handling pressure.

Why do I have a feeling this guy will become a future TTF?

I really liked him for a number of years but there’s just something about his batting- he doesn’t have any timing ability. For a well built guy, his shots hardly ever have power.

To his credit he is scoring runs consistently - when the run rate pressure isn’t there. He may have a future in ODIs but is definitely not a T20s player.

He would be a 40+ average with a sr of 95+ in ODI cricket player if he was from SENA nations with their coaching set up.

But Pakistan prefers players like Danish Aziz and Khushdil Shah I’m afraid

Agree that Talat is no Bradman.

However he is getting chances in the wrong format. As far as I know he has never played an ODI for Pakistan.

I think ODI’s are his best format.He is best suited to 4 / 5 in the batting order.

I might be wrong. But I just think this kid is simply not international material. Again, happy to be proven wrong. But I just don't believe he can make it in any format.
 
If ever there was the slightest chance for Hussain Talat to succeed in international cricket for Pakistan, it would be in test cricket batting at number 6/7 and being the 4th seamer.

For that he will really really need to work hard on his bowling as his batting alone is not special. I dont think he has the scope/skill to further improve his batting.
 
Good to see many people here are aware of his limits.
He'll play such innings every now and then but he's just not international quality at all.
 
Cramp him for room against pace bowling and restrict his scoring and he will struggle.

An example of that today against IU.

He has played but, just one ODI for Pakistan.

Thing is Hussain Talat is decent batsman with limitations (Currently). One who can anchor and has some shots as well but, potentially in terms of batting alone we now have some competition going on.

However, Hussain with his medium pace and decent enough fielding can be a utility cricketer but, then competition is pretty tough in the middle order even in that category with Iftikhar Ahmed, Kamran Ghulam (Potentially), already knocking the doors and Saud Shakeel already in the squad and all of them also provide that 6th bowling option. Even Agha Salman who was very much in radar till last year is also lurking around.

Talat had an outstanding last season in domestic cricket in both T20 cricket as well as red ball cricket however, he struggled to make it big for Shaheens (Pak A) during NZ tour in red ball cricket and then when he got to the opportunity for Pak vs SA in T20Is (That too at home), Shamsi got the better of him.

Around 3-4 years ago the competition was not that much but, now he needs to take his game to the next level to break through the door and become a regular member. Otherwise he will remain good enough to be in the fringes but, rarely making it to the the team or becoming a regular member.

That was a very average innings from Talat - really struggled against LQ.

Just couldn't get going.
 
Classic Hussain Talat innings. Ended up costing his side the match because the pressure he created with his miserable knock meant all the batsmen following him had to bat in 5th gear and didn't have any time to play themselves in.

And you knew the game was gone for Zalmi once the asking rate hit 14-15 RPO in the last five.

I used to rate Talat but he’s regressed rapidly and become a timid cricketer he’s not international class anymore. Pakistan need to start producing better batsmen asap

What's really disappointing is that a few days ago he looked brilliant and back to his best.

Yes he did but he’s to hit and miss… and he seems to be lacking the killer instinct to make it to the next stage unfortunately.. not a bad back up option to have though..
 
As I said in an earlier post, Talat needs to work hard on his bowling to maintain his spot. He doesnt make the cut as a batsman.
 
Lost the match for Zalmi with his poor 15 (24) innings, while Kamran Akmal was 41 (23) approx
 
He’s awful against pace. Malik is much better against pace then him tell you how bad he is.
 
26 years old today - can he make a comeback to the Pakistan side?
 
I cannot for the life of me work Hussain out.

Some days he looks a million dollars, other days he looks terrible.

Today he is bowling so well, other days he bats brilliantly, yet sometimes he's all over the place with bat and ball.
