What's new

[PICTURES/VIDEOS] "I am hoping I will be given consistent chances to prove myself in ODIs" : Hussain Talat

I cannot for the life of me work Hussain out.

Some days he looks a million dollars, other days he looks terrible.

Today he is bowling so well, other days he bats brilliantly, yet sometimes he's all over the place with bat and ball.

Exactly my thoughts . . such an enigma! The guy can do both and do them really well . . has to be something with the mind

Hussain Talat 63 in the Pakistan Cup Semi-Final - losing cause as KP defeated CP by 6 wickets

Hussain Talat stroked his fourth century in 51 matches as Balochistan, who resumed their second innings at 136 for five and required another 168 runs to make Northern bat again, added 200 runs on the final day to be dismissed for 336 at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. Northern took just 43 balls to race to the 33-run target for their second victory in three matches.

Hussain, who had yet to open his account when play ended on Tuesday, scored an unbeaten 115 from 178 balls with 15 fours and two sixes. He added 93 runs for the sixth wicket with Khurram Shahzad (59 from 89 balls with 11 fours) as the last four Balochistan wickets added 107 runs with Hussain dominating the scoring.

It's a shame he didnt develop into a hard hitting reliable T20 batsmen. We could have used him in the middle order.

He never had the timing and ability to be a hard hitting batsman, despite the physique. He barely cleared the infield.

But he can become a reliable test batsman in the mould of Imam if he continues to work on his consistency.

Hero in domestic FC and very ordinary if not a failure, in the international arena ... what's new for our batting talent?

His batting is OK if not great. He should have worked on his bowling and tried to develop him self as a reliable 5th bowler same for Agha Salman.

These like Hassan, Agha and Wasim jr don't iwork on their weaker skill which makes them useless in terms of giving balance to the side.

Wont exactly say a hero in domestic cricket but, yes had a good season or two. Not having best of the seasons currently taking into account national T20 and QAE however, good thing is that he is bowling regularly. A decent medium pacer to have as 6th option if required. T20 cricket was not his best format in my opinion (Mickey gave him a good spot at no 3 but, his game awareness was lacking for that number) as he isnt someone who can start bashing it around however, decent at strike rotation so would have worked better in ODIs.

In terms of upcoming talent few youngsters in domestic cricket to look forward to are Saim Ayub, Hurraira, Qasim Akram, Omair Yousuf, Saad Khan, Haseebullah Khan. While Abdullah Shafique is already in the national team.

Centuries by Haseebullah (123) and Hussain Talat (141*) helped Balochistan beat Central Punjab by 28 runs.

Tbh I've seen enough of Talat & I must say I'm not a fan.

He doesn't have the acceleration or the shot selection.

Whenever he's needed to attack and build on, he loses his wicket.

This is the right way of making a comeback, if he does. Scoring heavily and at good RR.

With dearth of batting talent we have in our domestic cricket , he is making case for himself to replace deadwoods like Khushdil, asif and chacha.

He doesn't look that good but he is certainly better than many players Pakistan have tried recently.

Amazing partnership with Shaheen - gets to his fifty as well - could well be taking his side to a fantastic win.

He would have if he had Raza, Wiese and Rashid to bat with him before Shaheen

Hussain Talat returned undefeated on 51 off 90 deliveries, hitting six fours and a six on Day 2 of the 4-Day game between Shaheens and Zimbabwe A

An impressive knock by Hussain Talat, his 20th first-class half-century in QeA 2023/24

Day 2, Round 4 QeA Trophy

Lahore Blues v Peshawar at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Abbottabad

Lahore Blues captain Imran Butt’s decision to bat first backfired as Lahore lost four wickets for 58 runs. At that stage of the match, Hussain Talat was joined by wicketkeeper-batter Junaid Ali and the pair added 138 runs for the fifth wicket. Hussain top-scored for his side with a 167-ball 87, which included 12 fours.

A much-needed fifty comes up for Hussain Talat in the National T20 Cup 2023. He has scored 57 (36) against FATA for his team Lahore Blues.

Hussain Talat made 112*(43) for GIC while playing against Zamwa City. A great knock by him but after a great while and that too in a Ramadan tournament. Hopefully, he carry on this form afterwards.

Hussain Talat's noteworthy knock of 82 runs off 97 balls went in vain for Ghani Glass against WAPDA in the second round of the President's Cup 2024, as the opposition won by 7 wickets.

These are highlights of his innings against WAPDA.

Hussain Talat scored his 8th List A century for Ghani Glass, hitting an unbeaten 107 runs off 92 balls against KRL, leading his team to victory. He's been in great form during the President's Cup 2024, with impressive innings like 122* (94) and 82 (97) in his recent matches. His consistent performance is noteworthy.

I think Talat's strong showings are boosting his chances for selection in the ODI squad. He has shown improvement in the longer format, which is a positive sign. However, there's a worry that selectors might overlook him, similar to what happened with Sahibzada Farhan, despite his domestic success.

Hussain Talat emerges as the top run-scorer in the President's Cup 2024, amassing 364 runs with a striking rate of 104.59 and an impressive average of 121.33 across 5 matches, including 2 centuries.truly deserve a comeback call in ODIs

Hussain Talat hit his 17th List A half-century off just 33 balls to provide the finishing touches to the innings, scoring an unbeaten 50*(33) against the Lions in the Champions One-Day Cup 2024.

Hussain Talat played a gritty knock of 72(89) for Ghani Glass against PTV in a one day match today in the President ODI cup 2024 which in the end didn't prove enough to rescue his side from the eventual defeat.

This guy scored a 50 for Shaheen against Sri Lanka A in the first four-day game. I am still not convinced on his selection for shaheens though.

Hussain Talat scored a crucial 56 (94) down the order for Pakistan Shaheens on Day 3 of the first four-day match against Sri Lanka A.

Fifty for Hussain Talat against Stallions in PCB's Champions T20 Cup 2024

He has made sure the Stallions don't collapse after losing both openers and scored a half-century at a steady run-rate

Some glimpses of the shots he played

Hussain Talat reaches his maiden T20 century, remaining unbeaten on 101* off 50 balls for the Stallions against the Panthers in the Champions T20 Cup 2024

After a phenomenal performance with the bat throughout the tournament, Stallions' Hussain Talat claimed 3/16 in 2 overs with the ball against Dolphins in the PCB Champions T20 Cup 2024.

Multan’s supplementary picks:

Jonson Charles and Shai Hope

2 more right handlers. What have the Sultans been smoking in this draft?

18 t20s??? Is that not enough??? But anyways...he has scored the most runs in the champions t20 cup so he is scoring runs in domestics.

I think Peshawar has done a good job brining him in
His performances were in long format in domestic and he was played in T20Is. He should have been debuted in ODIs as he a very good record in List A.

This is the first season he seems to have figured out T20 but let’s see if he’s actually a T20 player or it was an anomaly.

Let's see what he has got for Peshawar. They need him in all departments.

Aaqib Javed, while addressing the press conference:

"Hussain Talat is very close to selection. He is definitely in the 24-25 player pool, and we are keeping an eye on him."

Has been better than Babar

Plays well in the middle order, better option for Pakistan

Gets no hype, no coverage.

Can easily replace Faheem or Amir Jamal to boost low end batting and bowl some overs, but not good enough to be played as a middle order batsman alone.

He’s been the most impressive number 5 in PSL from Pakistani players

The team so far,

1. Sahibzada
2. Yasir
3. Abdullah
4.
5. Hussain Talat
6. Khushdil
7. Faheem
8. Hassan
9. Shaheen
10.
11. Abrar

Avg of 38 with SR of 132 which is pathetic.

KG for eg has higher average of 42 at sr 167.

If your argument is that if Babar and Rizwan played then why not him then go ahead but he isn't any better than these 2. It's a sideways move at best. Not the direction we should be moving after discarding them.

He has no reliable game to accelerate and can never be a 140 sr player not even a 135 sr player.

Plus ofcourse he has all the worst attributes of the typical Pakistan batsman. As selfish as they come, zero game awareness ( keeps giving catch practice on the reverse sweep like a fool), no ability to handle pressure (selfish players never do because they are too busy calculating their own survival).

How is Hussain Talat who bats at 5 outside of the powerplay not better than Babar and Rizwan who play most of their deliveries in the powerplay?

He deserves a shot but is more of a batting all rounder than bowling allrounder. His bowling appears very tame and not good enough for more than 1-2 overs in T20 and 5-6 in ODis. If he is to play he will need to play in the top order.

He is cut from the exact same cloth is my point.

If we want to move to a better approach, he is far from the man to do it.

But your point is not correct and there is no proof to support it.

Talat has shown his ability to build an innings outside of the powerplay, and has shown strong power game against spin in his position.

Have we seen any of that from Babar or Rizwan in the past 5-6 years? By that I mean have they batted in those positions of 4-5 and played like Talat has for all of his career?

What constitutes as proof for you?

His career sr after 200 matches is 125.
Even in this addition of psl where he is supposedly "supreme" he is striking at 132 sr.

I don't see any proof for a "strong power game" when he isn't even capable of striking at 135.

His strike rate of 125 as you say is because of his role in the middle order throughout his career, just like Hafeez and Malik who also had a similar strike rate playing in the middle for all of their playing career.

That kind of sr is unacceptable for a T20 opener who’s role is to utilise the powerplay.

Plain and simple, Babar and Rizwan are playing pathetic T20 cricket as openers.

Hussain Talat is doing his role as a T20 middle order batsman fine, he can be a bit better for sure. It’s not perfect.

Babar Rizwan are pathetic that's established for me.

I'm focusing on Talat here who too is rubbish. You seem to think he is doing his job at 5. I can't disagree more. He has never shown the ability to play at a good sr and he never will. Show me one single tournament (even a nt20). where he played with a sr of 140 or even 135).
And I'm talking domestics here.

Last 3 nt20s his sr was 130, 116 and 73.

That people are celebrating his season with a 132 sr as some achievement says it all. Guy is as mediocre as they come.
