[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Is Shaheen Shah Afridi trying to become an all-rounder due to the loss of pace from his injury?

Did his loss of pace also affect his radar? Two overs with a swinging new ball and I think maybe one was anywhere near the stumps the rest were all over the place, wides, long hops, full tosses, everywhere except where it should have been pitched.

Shaheen is looking to blast the spin attack of Bangladesh in the 1st test match.

So far he has hit 2 sixes and a four in his inning of 26 runs.

Shaheen can hit very well.

I wouldn't say he is an all-rounder. He is a bowler who can give it a whack with the bat (just like Wahab Riaz).

Reminds me of Javagal Srinath. Two top bowlers who played in mediocre cricket teams with very little support at the other end.

My comparison of the two :-

Height : Shaheen
Looks : Javagal
Speed: Javagal
Swing : Javagal
Reverse swing : Javagal
Bouncer : Javagal
Slower ball : Javagal
Bigger six : Shaheen
Better batsman : Javagal
Pathan : Shaheen

Who do you think Wasim Akram was and can Shaheen become like him in the coming years with the bat?

Would you rather have him try to become a tailender instead? Give credit where it’s due, he’s batting well and that’s a huge plus for Pakistan.
i want him to bowl well which is his primary job.. along with that if he can provide some support with bat so its a plus

Who do you think Wasim Akram was and can Shaheen become like him in the coming years with the bat?

Wasim Akram was a low-key all-rounder. He once scored 257* in Test. As a matter of fact, Wasim Akram had 3 Test centuries.

Shaheen is a bowler who can slog well. Not an all-rounder. I think he should mostly focus on his bowling.

Was Wasim an all rounder from the start?

Wasim is the greatest left arm pacer. He focused on his bowling as well as his batting.

Why can't Shaheen do the same? He can hit the ball. He is only 24

Yes. I meant Wasim could also be considered as an all-rounder even though he was primarily a bowler (best left arm pacer of all time).

Shaheen can do it too but cricketers now have more workloads than Wasim's era. So, Shaheen has to be careful to prevent injuries.

Now what is he doing? Seems in serious pain / not comfortable at all but he keeps batting on.

Circus all around!

Waqar Younis sitting as mentor couldn't do anything and he cones out to bat for no reason as they had already qualified for playoffs and they also had a fitter ahmed daniyal who could have been sent. Speaks about his level of insecurity and just trying to hog a spot in batting order despite knowing he can only swing bat but then ends up missing so many deliveries.

Shaheen improving his batting will be a plus, but if his bowling keeps on deteriorating he cannot be in the playing 11. Simple.

Saheen shah Afridi can become Indian irfan pathan. Medium fast bowler with good batsman. Managememt need to push him up the batting order. If he fix his batting hitting ability he can be become new Shahid Afridi for pakistan.

Almost Inzi kind of slow movement during a slog sweep. What exactly is pcb doing by not reviewing his situation right before eng series ?

Good batting performance from Shaheen down the order scoring vital 26 runs against England in the 1st test. But what about his main job as a bowler.?

He knows that scoring 20 or more runs will help him escape criticism about his bowling which is justified by the usual excuse that he is an all-rounder. On merit, Shaheen has no place in the side as Mir Hamza has outbowled him over the last six months.

U sure it’s not Chacha

Only one wicket for the undisputed leader of our pace attack. No wonder Pakistan is such a poor team these days. Shaheen should quit cricket and focus on politics now.

He has played 31 tests. Very close to the upper limit for contemporary Pakistani fast bowlers.

If he/Pakistan are serious about his future in international cricket, he’d take time out to rest, iron out his flaws and recover his pace. PCB are a numpty organisation and Shaheen has an inflated opinion of his performances.

Fans, Selectors as usual keep picking players based on past performances and refuse to accept present realities.

I admire the approach of Indian selectors, the moment a current Indian player is out of form or way past their best, they don't remain stuck in nostalgia and keep hoping a player comes good, they ruthlessly axe him and bring the next player in.

Not really else we would have dumped Kohli a while ago from our test squad.

The all-rounder scored 10 runs in the 2nd inning.

Please rest brother. You need rest.

Can't bat
Can't bowl
Can't captain

Can't take 200 test wickets.
Can't play 50 tests.

He definitely needs a rest for 6 months and instead Hasnain should be given a chance as the guy clearly takes his game seriously and has the performance to back up his claim.

Shaheen Afridi has performed better than Babar Azam as a Test batter this year

Shaheen Shah Afridi plays better strokes than Pakistan's top-order batsmen against Australia in the 1st ODI

It was an entertaining knock but Shaheen's batting is about as good as his father in law's was---unreliable, unpredictable and largely devoid of any logic.

Naseem's batting has far more potential.

He might aswell now, his bowling is on life support. Even in an ODI he can’t get above 132k

A downfall for the ages - what a pathetic bowler Shaheen has become..

We need to send him back to domestic cricket to work on his form and fitness, cannot be carrying passengers just because their Fathers-in-law say so...

He is a better batter than Saim and Abdullah. Maybe he should give them a lesson or 2 on how to play some shots instead of looking like sitting ducks on the crease.

BUT BUT BUT, If Shaheen is not doing his primary job which is bowling well, then he has no point to be in the team.

This is what I had observed in first ODI. Yes he did control flow of runs but he wasn't looking threatening at all with his pace of 130-132. In 2002 ODI series in Australia which Pakistan won 2-1 Shoaib & Wasim literally ran through Australia's very strong batting. The current bowlers have attitude like superstars but actually they are pretty ordinary with limited skills and no intent to improve

Saazish conspiracies, con manning had destroyed his career, only playing on reputation now

He lost his pace for a while now and keep insisting on playing , should be forcefully allowed to take some time off and play some domestic games

Apart from Ali Raza it is good to see we have two tall right arm and left arm pacers in our current U19 team who can bowl 140k as their effort delivery.

He will keep regressing and will be taken to the cleaners by ordinary batsman with his reduced pace & monotonous bowling. He should take a break and play county cricket and local domestic cricket for few seasons. He is lucky to survive so far as he is playing for Pakistan where many players get free ride even after repeated failures

I remember in this year’s PSL, he was going over 140kph, but at international stage, he is the low 130s. It just tells you where his priorities lie. He is saving himself for PSL in a few months time, where he is the captain of Lahore Qalanders.

At least Irfan Pathan won a T20 world cup. He is vinnay Kumar level nowadays if there is no swing or seam on offer basically garbage for 95% of the white ball games

What is the point?

They all turn into trundlers after few years. Wahab Riaz is the only exception in recent times.

Needs to be put out to pasture until he can regain some sort of value to the team. At the moment, I'd back Bilawal Bhatti to leak less runs than him.

He is not fully fit and is just trying to compensate with his batting to save face but in doing so his bowling is getting even worse.

Strange tactics by the management as they sent Shaheen ahead of Irfan Niazi. Now it’s time for Shaheen to show if he can take on the responsibility of an all-rounder.

Sadly no, the guy is brainless, its a wide but dude still manages to get out cos foot not behind the line.

Most encouraging thing about 1st t20 was Afridi’s pace. He bowled up in the 140s after a long time. I felt his run up and action was much stronger than it has been in a long time.
