Muhammad Irfan Khan (born 28 December 2002) is a Pakistani cricketer. Born in Mianwali, Punjab, Irfan switched from tape-ball to hard-ball cricket in 2015 by joining the city's Ikram Shaheed Cricket Club.

After playing club cricket, he progressed to Under-19 cricket, representing Mianwali at the district level in 2016 and Faisalabad at the regional level in 2017. His impressive performances earned him a spot in Pakistan's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Irfan was selected for the newly formed Central Punjab team for the 2019-20 domestic season and was retained for the 2020-21 season. He made his List A debut for Pakistan Shaheens against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) during their tour of Pakistan in February 2020.

In September 2020, Irfan made his Twenty20 debut for Central Punjab in the 2020-21 National T20 Cup. He was named in Pakistan's team for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies in December 2021.

Mohammad Irfan Khan speaks to PCB media ahead of his debut ODI match against Australia:

"When you represent Pakistan on such a platform, it's exhilarating. Every cricketer dreams of playing for Pakistan. Since I started playing cricket, my goal was to wear the green jersey."

"I began cricket at school level, joined a club, and had supportive coaches. They saw potential in me, saying, 'Work hard, and you'll play for Pakistan.' That motivated me."

"I wrote down my dreams on a page, aiming to play in the Under 19 region, the Under 19 World Cup, PSL, and eventually for Pakistan."

"Alhamdulillah, my journey unfolded as planned."

"My family, especially my father, supported me throughout. I'm grateful for their encouragement."

"Gully cricket is essential in Pakistan. It's where talent emerges, progressing from school to club to academy levels."

"My dream is to play against Australia, a top team. Performing well against them makes you a renowned player. My goal is to play match-winning innings for Pakistan."

Not expecting results from this series and just hoping fresh faces like him can deliver. Go well mate.

He is not cut for international cricket.Poor against pace and average against spin. All the best to him

He's a got a very difficult task on Monday to take on the Aussie attack.

Best of luck to him.

big call to pick him against Australia and that too in Australia... wont be an easy thing for him to handle Australian bounce right on debut.

Muhammad Irfan Khan makes his ODI debut for Pakistan against Australia in 1st ODI, receiving his cap from Wasim Akram. How will his ODI career unfold?

he will surprise everyone here today.. he is a gun fielder and the most important thing is he has the hinger and accepts the challenge... his batting also evolved and looks a better lower order batsmen... he needs to skill up his bowling too to keep himself pushing to play as an allrounder..

Not the first name I'd expect to drop a catch. He's usually a very good fielder.

He’s not going to win you championships but really givin the cupboard we have he’s someone who should get a run of 10-12 games and see where he goes maybe there is a player in him

He can hit big as well can put value on his wicket , that’s the only positive about him but overall a limited batter but better than what we are producing currently.

I don't think he even knows how to handle pressure situations. He struggled with a laborious 7 off 15 while chasing a modest target of 206 against Zimbabwe in the 1st ODI.

What a useless player we have in our lower order, who can't even perform against Zimbabwe, scoring only 3(5) in the death overs of the 3rd ODI

After a slow period following key wickets against Zimbabwe in 1st T20I, Pakistan's innings gained momentum with Irfan Khan 27*(15), helping them reach 165/4.

May be Misbah pushed him for selection hopefully Aqib will deal it on merit

He is a gun fielder and knows how to construct an innings and is not a brainless slogger.

I would defo give him the SA series

It was not a good gesture when you send Shaheen ahead of him. Shaheen was not needed there. Irfan should have been sent there but cannot say that he would have finished the game but sending a bowler ahead of a proper batter in that situation was not good.

Irfan should be trusted and given chance

So called power hitter was demoted and played behind Shaheen who can only slog against spinners

That should tell you he is not a power hitter

I don’t understand when you can’t trust him and are sending Shaheen ahead of him so what’s the point of keeping him in the team as a finisher?

I don't know why team wants him to become a hitter. He is not. He doesn't even hit sixes in domestic. In domestic and in PSL his expertise in the middle order was hitting in the gaps for fours. He does have potential and build to learn to hit sixes but he's not a finished product yet.

Let him play a few seasons of domestic. Try an established player like Tayyab at 5 or 6. If you need a hitter at 7 look at Jamal.

This guy looks like a good player. Also seems to relish the big matches from what I've seen so far.

How will things move forward like this? Look at his strike rate in the death overs. His misery finally ended in the 2nd ODI against South Africa.

Shot that was better than many players can even dream of. Really want him to get more overs to bat.

Yeah I don't think he is getting a fair shot at 7. He has just started his international career and is being expected to come in and play the role of the finisher. Pakistan need an all-rounder in that position like Aamir Jamal.

But Irfan has something. I think he can be a really good player if he is invested in and given consistent opportunities up the order.

If Jamal bats at 7 then you need another all rounder at 8.

I like the work ethic of this guy. I have seen him since u19 days and he is clearly taking his cricket seriously as a long-term career. We can see he invest in fitness over the years and have also seen his batting improve.

Irfan Khan is someone that should be persisted with as he has that un-Pakistani thing about him which is ongoing development. Many of our players stop developing once they reach international cricket or stardom but this guy comes across as a hard worker and hard work always pays off hence should be persisted with.

The only issue right now is his mental application in the initial 5-10 deliveries he faces. He needs to have a reliable get out shot that he can use to manoeuvre for singles which can help him launch later in the innings.

Guys, this thread is for Irfan Khan, not other players, so please stick to the topic of the thread.

I would like to see him Get couple of shots of batting atleast 20-25 overs before passing any judgement on him could very be bust but has also shown bright sparks here and there difficult to make a call

He can hit the ball hard but he needs to learn how to rotate the strike for the first couple of deliveries.
