[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Pakistan to host Tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand

Pak have only 4 batters even though these are rubbish and have issues. It's like windies of 90 side. Hooper, Lara,Chanderpaul and sarwan.Atleast they are perfect for that generation with their Sr. Knock these batsmen and take rest for opposition is the target. Pak bowling is atrocious to the least in one day's on flat tracks

A delegation from New Zealand Cricket (NZC), including security and players' association representatives, visited Karachi's National Stadium to assess preparations for an upcoming ODI tri-series in February 2025, before the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.

They also inspected ongoing renovations for the 2025 event. The delegation had previously visited stadiums in Rawalpindi and Lahore. The tri-series, involving Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, will take place in Multan from February 8 to 14, serving as a warm-up for the Champions Trophy.

Excellent stuff Pakistan needs more and more international cricket specially against top 7 countries

Well, well, well. Stadiums will be ready by then? National Stadium still had plenty work left and there are no roofs yet for Gaddafi Stadium.

Looks like the stadiums are ready, or will be soon, which is probably why they shifted the games from Multan to Lahore and Karachi.
Or else why would they if they weren't ready

I'm not sure if roofs can be installed that quickly

You can't for better prep for the CT than this.
How can pakistan play bilateral series in these grounds just before the champion trophy.

Isn't these grounds will be given to ICC prior to the tournament to set-up the all things before any ICC tournaments?

Really strange .

You are fixating too much on ICC approval. At the end of the day, the tournament is taking place in Pakistan. ICC will be lenient with their deadlines even if they are not met.

I think everything is going well, but some people from the surrounding areas seem desperate for Pakistan to fail. Seems they want to point fingers at Pakistan and cause unnecessary commotion.

I watch the stadium updates and this is the summary

Qaddafi Stadium Updates
  1. Trench completed. The current state is that they are building the fence around it
  2. Lights updated.
  3. Stands completed. Chairs being placed right now, apparently they are imported from China so shipments are on the way
  4. Main building is about 75% done. Lifts haven't been installed though
  5. PCB offices also similar but people don't focus on them that much
  6. Special place in front of the pavilion being built right now as well as concrete around the seats on the ground
  7. Screens not done yet.
  8. Outdoor underground water tanks completed so rainwater can now be stored
  9. No update on the roof, apparently it's being built elsewhere & if completed will be brought in chunks & installed (won't cover entire pavilions though, only like 1/3rd
  10. Verdict is that it'll be completed before Feb
National Stadium Updates
  1. Seats being upgraded (old seats form Lahore brought here)
  2. Trench work in progress.
  3. Old fence removed so better visibility
  4. Lights updated to some extent
  5. The 4 story building will not be complete. 2 floors including hospitality boxes & player facilities will be complete only, the top 2 will just be painted to look done but they'll be reworked late
Pindi Stadium Updates
  1. No real work being done except touch ups & better chairs

Basically Lahore got the best deal, everyone else just being sidelined

Nah i was not talking about ICC deadlines . I'm saying that Any host country gives the grounds to the ICC before the start of the tournament. So they can make the arrangement ( Likes of installing Cemara , all the set-up for technology , Sponsers etc) and they need minimum one week's to setup all the arrangements.

All three vanues will be ready to host the champion trophy but why PCB is playing the bilateral/tri series in theses ground just few days prior to the ICC champions trophy. Is that allowed?

Nlc fwo , the contractor for this work, enough said about quality of work and kickqacks

I am sure they will manage. If a country like India can bungle the hosting of the World Cup in such a major way, its only natural that a country like Pakistan, with fewer resources, will make its share of mistakes too.

Why would it not be allowed?

The new building that they built. Is that for PCB offices?

I wonder how difference financially it makes for PCB to host a tri-nation as compared to having a bi-lateral

Hopefully Pakistan, SA, and NZ will deliver a great tri-series.

I expect Pakistan vs NZ in the final with Pakistan winning it.

Moving games to lahore was good but Karachi??? No sure if karachi can attract crowd for these games...

What's the trench for?

Nlc fwo , the contractor for this work, enough said about quality of work and kickqacks
Exactly.

I have seen videos of the work at Gaddafi, looks utterly shoddy. Wouldn't pass basic checks in the UK. The seats at a local train station abroad look better quality.

So the people don't run on to the field.

Also probably will help drain the water & redirect it to the outside water storage that's being installed underground.
How will that work?

What if the ball falls in the trench or someone or something needs to come in?

What if I fielder tries to chase the ball or jumps and falls into trench near the boundary?

It's going to be covered by a net & there is a small grill that will be built to protect people from falling into it.

If there will be a grill to protect people from falling. Can't someone still run in and come to pitch?

Could be. Not something I would have built but then FWO/NLC needed the money & PCB is a cash cow. All they needed was a RSA style netting between two small railings but nope, they had to build this monstrosity which in the end will be covered by a net anyway. Big corrupt brains everywhere in Pak making ridiculous decisions

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced the schedule for the tri-nation ODI series, featuring New Zealand and South Africa. The series will be played on a single-league basis from 8 to 14 February, with Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium hosting the opening two matches and Karachi’s National Bank Stadium staging the final league match and the final.

Pakistan and New Zealand will kick off the series at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday, 8 February, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 1400 (local time). New Zealand will then face South Africa on Monday, 10 February, in a day match with the toss set for 0900 (local time).

The action will shift to Karachi, where Pakistan will take on South Africa on 12 February in a day/night match at the National Bank Stadium, starting at 1400 (local time). The final will be played on Friday, 14 February, with the first ball to be bowled at 1400 (local time).

Both Pakistan and New Zealand are scheduled to train at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, 6 February, under lights, while South Africa’s first outing at the historic venue will be on the morning of Sunday, 9 February.

While the four matches at Gaddafi Stadium and National Bank Stadium will provide the three sides with an excellent opportunity to finalise preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, it will also be a perfect occasion for the PCB to showcase its redesigned and redeveloped venues to the world through its world-class broadcast.

At the Gaddafi Stadium, the spectator capacity has been increased, with new chairs installed throughout the venue. Additionally, 480 state-of-the-art LED lights have been installed to enhance broadcast LUX levels, ensuring a superior viewing experience for fans worldwide. To further elevate the spectator experience, two giant digital replay screens – measuring 80 feet x 30 feet and 22 feet x 35 feet – have been installed. A brand-new hospitality enclosure for players and officials is near completion, ensuring that the iconic stadium is fully operational to deliver an unparalleled experience for all stakeholders.

At the National Bank Stadium, significant enhancements have been made, including the creation of a new hospitality enclosure for players and officials at the University End. To improve broadcast coverage, 350 LED lights have been installed, ensuring optimal visibility for global audiences. Two digital replay screens have already been fixed and 5,000 new chairs have been installed to enhance spectator comfort.

Schedule of tri-series matches (day/night matches will start at 1400, day match will begin at 0930):

8 February – Pakistan v New Zealand (d/n)

10 February – New Zealand v South Africa (d)

12 February – Pakistan v South Africa (d/n)

14 February – Final (d/n)

JOHANNESBURG: Proteas Men’s white-ball head coach Rob Walter has provided an update on the squad for the upcoming tri-nation One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan and New Zealand, scheduled from 08 - 14 February in Lahore and Karachi.

Walter has named an initial 12-player squad for South Africa’s first match of the series against the BLACKCAPS on 10 February at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Western Province all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana has also been named in the squad. This is the 24-year-old’s second call-up to the 50-over setup after being part of the ODI squad against India in 2023.

Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has made a recovery from a left hamstring strain to further strengthen the attack.

The squad will travel to Lahore on Wednesday evening.

@emranabbas I told you months ago that South Africa wouldn't name a full-strength squad for this series

They're compromising CT25 though
SA20 is critically important to South African cricket’s financial stability and long-term growth. Skipping a couple of ODIs in the lead-up to the Champions Trophy won’t have a major impact. They sent their Z team for a test series in New Zealand because SA20 was going on at the time, so what's an ODI series compared to that?

As usual with Pakistan, we will probably find out on the day of the or just before the first ball of the first game if it will be on TV in the western world.

PCB itself is poorly organised. They were supposed to officially reveal the shirt yesterday…

Just so you know as well, Lockie Furgouson has already committed to a T20 team for the semi finals of the CT. He won’t play the semis if NZ get there

It is even the same with the Champions Trophy nothing is on anywhere no ads. Again we'll probably have the same thing for that too.
PCB official's are busy in the construction of stadiums so they don't have much time for marketing .

This is mockery of an ICC tournament . Today is 5th February yet grounds are not ready completely .team are practicing in college grounds instead main grounds

Karachi stadium deadline is increased to 9th February .

But all is well according to PCB chairman and fan's .

It's Pak circus board for a reason I named it over 2 decades ago.

PLAYER UPDATE

Proteas fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the upcoming tri-nation One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan and New Zealand.

The 24-year-old experienced tightness in his groin while completing his 10-overs at training on Wednesday morning at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria.

After further assessment by the Proteas medical team, it was determined that the presenting symptoms posed an increased risk of significant injury at a higher bowling load, which will be required for the upcoming 50-over matches.

His replacement will be announced in due course.

Thanks for reminding me, I totally forgot! This is exactly what I mean. South Africa is in a rebuilding phase, and the team Pakistan beat wasn’t made up of their main players as they are rebuilding. they have 6 uncapped players even in champions trophy. So, it’s really not some massive achievement beating the South African team they put on the field when Pakistan visited.

Not really. They are all playing SA20 because it means much more to the South African board that their top stars are there in their premier T20 league. Also, South Africa has been in a rebuilding phase for a number of years now, this is not anything new.

The team that featured in the series against Pakistan included most of those players missing here. The only notable exceptions in that series were players who were injured.

9 of the 15 selected in Pakistan squad , 5 of them.last played Odi in 2023, 3 of them have played less than 10 Odis , 1 is uncapped. So that makes things even

Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, and Rassie van der Dussen are not playing in the tri series Due to SA20 .

Maharaj and klaasen also not available for 1st match.

This has nothing to do with the PCB. They handed over the hosting rights to Tower Sports/ARY back in August 2024, covering events until the end of 2026, including the tri-series. It's up to the broadcaster to promote and advertise it to attract viewership.

Jansen, Markram, Miller, Rabada, Rickelton, Stubbs, van der Dussen
None of them compare to the likes of Malan, de Kock, Ngidi, Maharaj, or even legends like Steyn and AB de Villiers, except for maybe a couple. It would be great to see Rizwan perform against South Africa's stronger teams from the past before calling him a legend.

I don't understand this comment at all. This is pretty much the same South African team that made the World Cup semi-finals. Only player missing is de Kock. Ngidi is in the squad. So is Maharaj. And where did, Malan come from? He was dropped by South Africa long ago.

Why don't you find a time-machine then? So that Rizwan can go back in time and play that South African team. Btw, that legendary South African team that you are talking about got beaten by arguably the worst ever Pakistan World Cup team at the 2015 World Cup.

Seems like a very sad attempt by you to disparage what was a pretty impressive achievement by Pakistan, winning the ODI series 3-0. And as always your obsession with Rizwan has somehow found its way here aswell.

oh be quiet Rizwan wouldn't last 2 minutes in front of steyn stop bigging him up as if's some legend by beating washed up SA

The only one washed up here is you, with your completely 'out of touch' opinions on cricket.
If this South Africa team is nothing compared to past South Africa team's than so is Pakistan current team compared to past pakistan team's

Some of pakistan fans logic i really don't understand.

This is same South Africa team who had played World T20 final few month's ago

Yeah, apparently a South African team that has done better than 2010s era team at the WT20, and as good at the ODI World Cup is "washed-up."

Some fans will go to any length to justify their ludicrous agendas.

Tri-Nation Series:

The South African cricket team has arrived in Lahore.

The South African team arrived in Lahore via a private airline through Dubai.

The South African team will rest completely today.

The team will begin their practice session tomorrow.

The South African team will practice from 12:30 to 4:30 at LCCA Ground.
