ZIMBABWE Cricket has beefed up its squad ahead of the visit by Pakistan following the inclusion of the experienced pair of former captain Brendan Taylor and top order batsman Craig Ervine ahead of the Twenty20 international (T20I) series which gets underway in Harare on Wednesday.

The two veteran batsmen missed Zimbabwe’s last series against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates in February-March due to health issues but have bounced back in the squad after good displays in the just ended domestic Twenty20 competition.

The duo’s inclusion is among the six changes made to the national side for the upcoming home tour.

All-rounder Luke Jongwe, who last played international cricket in January 2016, has also bounced back after he was named in the 15-man squad.

The uncapped trio of the sensational Tadiwanashe Marumani, the 19-year-old batsman who scored four fifties in five matches in the just-ended Domestic T20 Competition, as well as seamer Tanaka Chivanga and spin bowler Tapiwa Mufudza are the other new faces in the side.

Sean Williams will captain Zimbabwe for the three-match Twenty20 International series due to the absence of limited overs captain Chamu Chibhabha.

Williams, the substantive Test captain led the team against Afghanistan in the T20Is in Abu Dhabi last month and will once again be the skipper against Pakistan.

Sikandar Raza will miss the series due to an upper-arm injury. From the squad that faced Afghanistan, the players who have been dropped are Richmond Mutumbami, Milton Shumba, Brandon Mavuta, Tarisai Musakanda and Faraz Akram.

Musakanda has however been placed on standby alongside Ainsley Ndlovu and Bradley Evans.

The T20I series between Zimbabwe and Pakistan is scheduled for 21, 23 and 25 April, with the matches starting at 1100 hours local time.

All the games will be played behind closed doors at Harare Sports Club, with no spectators allowed in the stadium due to COVID-19 protocols.

Zimbabwe T20I Squad: Williams Sean (captain), Burl Ryan, Chakabva Regis, Chivanga Tanaka, Ervine Craig, Jongwe Luke, Kamunhukamwe Tinashe, Madhevere Wessly, Marumani Tadiwanashe, Masakadza Wellington, Mufudza Tapiwa, Muzarabani Blessing, Ngarava Richard, Taylor Brendan, Tiripano Donald

Good opportunity to debut a bunch of new guys.

Yep for me this is an opportunity for the likes of Danish Aziz, Sharjeel Khan, Arshad Iqbal and M. Wasim Jr get a go.

For me first t20 XI:

1. Babar Azam (c)
2. Muhammad Rizwan (wk)
3. Fakhar Zaman
4. Sharjeel Khan
5. Muhammad Hafeez
6. Danish Aziz
7. Muhammad Wasim Jr/Faheem Ashraf
8. Muhammaz Nawaz
9. Usman Qadir
10. Haris Rauf/Muhammad Hasnain
11. Arshad Iqbal

Alternately, you can have Fakhar and Sharjeel open with Babar and Rizwan coming in at 3 & 4 respectively.

For the zimbabwe series we should try out new guys and after this series we should have 15 players who we will for the world Cup.

Babar
Rizwan
Fakhar
Hafeez
Haider Ali
Danish aziz
Wasim
Hassan Ali
Qadir
Arshad iqbal
Husnain

Fahim,shaheen,nawaz should be rested

Hmmm I think you’ll need another specialist spinner in Zimbabwe conditions, so Nawaz should play plus he’s hardly played anything so should be playing. Only thing for me is I’d like to see Sharjeel play again (he can think of this as exercise lol)

Yes I wanted to include nawaz but I wanted to include some new players we should forget the conditions to some extent and look more towards giving opportunities.nawaz we all know what he can do but we are not sure what the rest can do.

Still think Nawaz needs to prove himself more and this might be a good opportunity to get some much needed batting practise.

Unfortunately for me this series proves very little about Haider’s abilities and I would rather get in the big boy Sharjeel, let curious minds find out what happens when we open with Sharjeel and Fakhar.

Arshad plays for me, along with Muhammad Wasim Jr.

I wouldn't play Sharjeel in the middle order, instead, I'd either give Haider a final opportunity or bring Danish into the mix of things along with Sarfaraz.

Misbah the coach will stick with tried and tested. If Asif Ali is there,he will play.

After all, we have people of that same mindset on PP who compare Haider Ali failing in 1 series at age 20 (playing out of position) and Asif Ali(TTF).

Hilarious.

Maybe I can see why Pakistan does not succeed in footy, we have an archaic state of mind when it comes to development in cricket.

Only one of fakhar or sharjeel should play at the top of the order.if this series proves very little then what does it prove regarding sharjeel.

Pakistan Test Players clear on arrival Covid-19 testing

Eleven Test team members, who arrived in Harare on Wednesday, have cleared the on arrival Covid-19 tests.

After the rest day today, the players will start their training from tomorrow Friday 23 April at Harare Sports Club.

Babar Azam speaking after loss to Zimbabwe in the 2nd T20I:

"I feel we played poor cricket today as a batting group - but I have to give credit to the Zimbabwe side for such a good comeback"

"Our middle-order is struggling but we have to step up and I am confident that we will comeback in the next game"

"Wicket was a little double-paced but that is no excuse as we are a professional team"

"This was a very painful performance for us; We had chased 200+ against South Africa in the 3rd T20I there but we couldn't chase 119 here; I feel our middle order is struggling and due to that we couldn't finish the job"

"It wasn't just the middle-order but all our batsmen couldn't perform in the way they had been, so we had collapse of our batting group today because of which we lost the game today"

"The pitch was the same as it was in the first game so this should not be an excuse for our loss because as a professional side, you adapt to different conditions"

"As openers, we could not provide the start that we should have done for the team; The middle-order was struggling and we will try and help them to step-up for the next game"

"With the World T20 Cup fast approaching, we need to sort these issues; Our aim is to sort these issues, win the remaining games and create a good team combination"

Misbah has spoiled this team and running out of options for middle order batsman and plays his buddy Asif ali ahead of all

Sharjeel, Abdullah Shafique and Haider Ali are in the bench today when danish and Asif played ahead of them. This will not happen in a franchise team.

Misbah put rizwan to open and made Sharjeel and Fakhar who are primarily openers to either sit out or bat at different positions. Now running out of middle order options. Misbah is a master on how to collapse or damage a team.
The batting order should have been as below and this is what a sensible coach would pick.

Sharjeel
Fakhar
Babar
Hafeez
Haider ali
Rizwan

Babar Hafeez Haider ali and Rizwan should be forming the middle order with Sharjeel and Fakhar opening the inns.

Once clueless captain , now clueless coach

Extremely disappointing..... Not sure if I am more disappointed with team management or with Imran Khan, who as an ex-captain and authority in the game has let Pakistan cricket drop to such lows under his watch over the country.

The only positive that can come from this is that IK wakes up and realises that we are fast becoming a laughing stock in the world of cricket and sacks Mani & Co, ideally replacing them with someone with a bit of common sense!!! If this does not do it not sure what wil, especially after the PSL mess as well.

Sack and replace is what we’ve been doing fir decades. It’s not goona make a difference.. Mani isn’t the coach and has zero say in any on field matters.. we can sack Misbah too, the new coach will have the same crop of players selected by our CS to work with. We’re delusional if we think sacking the administration is going to fix our fundamental problems. It’s not like the next inzi, yousuf or akram is waiting in the wings.

Yes same crop of players, see what MA did to the top 3 of the ODI batting order.
Pakistan struggled to get past the first 15 overs without losing 3-4 wickets and losing half the side in 25-30 overs. This is a norm under Misbah and Waqar for 5-6 years ever since 2011 CWC. This was fixed by a professional coach, imagine what he had as top 3 in the beginning when he took over in 2016 and see what he left with shows the quality , didn’t take him too long to set that correct hardly 18 months..

I’m sure Misbahs next target is to break that top 3 ship as well, by introducing Rizwan into the opening slot.

Misbah Waqar lol, people have seen enough of these twos buffoonery. Clueless, headless chickens to say the least.

What a great team we are becoming under Misbah!!!! First time in the history we won the T20 series by 2-1 and test 2-0 against strong Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe. Misbah and Waqar deserve 10 years extension of the contract with double salary.
