Is darren Sammy gonna stay as captain, or will they be changing him

I like the Jamal anwar pick, lets see if he gets to keep wickets and bat or not

Pretty much the same apart from Misbah and Pollard no noticeable difference

High chance of winning with Misbah in the team.

Though one more hitter would have been better.

Team:

Kamran Akmal
Umar Amin
Dawid Malan
Misbah Ul Haq
Sohaib Masood
Kieoren Pollard
Daren Sammy
Liam Dawson
Hasan Ali
Wahab Riaz
Ibtisam Sheikh

No quality spinner and that will hurt them a lot, especially on these spinning pitches.

Also, not much batting outside of Kamran, Maqsood and Amin (should play as an opener).

Those 3 need to fire big time, otherwise they are doomed.

A bit weak on bowling but that team has the capability to win the tournament.

ISLU and Lahore can give competition. Others will be trash.

They can play Umaid Asif/Chris Jordan in place of one batsman, but who?

PZ lacking quality international players. I'm also fairly certain Kamran Akmal will bomb this season

This feels like the strongest team IMO. Surprised people are bashing it. So much Pakistani and foreign experience in that squad. I don't get Misbah's inclusion tbh as Sammy's an excellent captain, but his captaincy knowledge will probably help. And you can't really Ignore Kamran who's been the best player over the course of all the PSLs.

People underestimate the experienced Pakistani players, yet in most seasons it's been the experienced Pakistani players who have done well. They just have more experience in pressure situations and in the UAE especially. And none of these guys are that old that they are past it except perhaps Misbah. Can't say Kamran when just last year he was the best Pakistani bat in PSL 3.

They have some experience players but lack a top spinner. Other than that they seem a good all round team but I think relying on these oldies may hurt them.

Darren Sammy will captain Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 4, announced Javed Afridi.

Peshawar Zalmi's chairman Javed Afridi announced Darren Sammy to lead the side this PSL 4. He believes that his captaincy proved to be fruitful for the team as they won the PSL 2 and runners up in PSL 3. The yellow storm will perform exceptionally well in PSL under his captaincy. He further added that the inclusion of Misbah ul Haq is beneficial for us. He will not only prove to be helpful for the youngsters but also help Darren Sammy with his experience. He is also the two time winning PSL Captain. On Tuesday, the PSL drafts were held in which the two major picks for Zalmi were the t20 sensation Kieron Pollard in the platinum category and Misbah ul Haq in the Diamond Category. Chairman Javed Afridi, President Zaheer Abbas, Head Coach Mohammad Akram, Team Manager Arshad Khan, Wahab Riaz and Kamran Akmal were also present for the PSL DRAFTS 2018. Peshawar Zalmi Squad comprises of:

Wahab Riaz

Hasan Ali

Daren Sammy

Liam Dawson

Umaid Asif

Khalid Usman

Sameen Gul

Misbah ul Haq - Diamond

Sohaib Maqsood - Silver

Jamal Anwar - Silver

Nabi Gul - Emerging

Ibtisam Sheikh - Supplementary

Samiullah - Supplementary

The three turkish cricketers who will be part of PSL 4 were also present at the drafts. They will fly with the team to Dubai and witness all the cricketing action and learn from the best. Peshawar Zalmi will also work for the development of cricket in Turkey after the MOU signing between Turkish Sports Federation and Zalmi Foundation.

Can anybidy tell me what's suppose to be exciting about this team? All I see is names like Kamran, Misbah wahab and Umer Amin (in t20?) and feel like running away. Basically a Pak t20 fail XI.

I worry about this squad.

I honestly believe they could finish last this time around.

Nothing about this squad excites me and it will rely heavily on the likes of Hasan Ali with the ball.

Three young Turkish cricketers, including a woman, have joined as “guest players” a Pakistani league franchise for the upcoming season.

"Three Turkish players will fly with the team to Dubai and witness all the cricketing action and learn from the best," Peshawar Zalmi’s media department said in a statement.

Pakistan Super League (PSL) will begin from Feb. 13, 2019 in the United Arab Emirates.

Peshawar Zalmi, a former PSL champion, represents the capital city of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The franchise will also work for the development of cricket in Turkey after the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Zalmi Foundation and Turkish sports federation, the statement said.

On Monday, Peshawar Zalmi's owner Javed Afridi announced to include three Turkish players -- Tunahan Turan, 20, Mehmet Sert, 18, and Yagmur Tasdelen, 24 -- in his team for the next year league.

"I am very happy and feel proud to become part of Peshawar Zalmi, which is one of the best T20 teams in Pakistan," Turan told Anadolu Agency.

Cricket is not a popular sport in Turkey. However, the Turkish Developing Sports Branches Federation has started efforts to promote cricket in the country.

“I want to show the world that Turkish girls can play cricket which is mostly considered as a men’s sport," Tasdelen said.

Turkish? Did Zalmi discard those Chinese cricketers who were part of the team last year?

This is way too old team, only reason it survives because we play PSL in UAE, where ball comes in slow motion. This sort of team give bad name to PSL.. So UAE has not only ruined Pakistan national team but ruining PSL as well, which is quickly becoming “Uncle League” 👺👺👺

Cool fellow Sammy honestly.

Peshawar Zalmi – An epitome of consistency at HBL PSL

Lahore, 6 February 2019:

The 2017 HBL Pakistan Super League champions Peshawar Zalmi are an epitome of consistency. In the game’s most unpredictable format, Zalmi have been consistently so good that they have topped the points table on two occasions and played the final as many times.

Zalmi were the best team at the end of the group stage in the first two HBL PSLs. In the 2016 edition, they failed to qualify for the final after losing both the Qualifier and Eliminator, but lifted the trophy in 2017 when they defeated Quetta Gladiators in the historic HBL PSL final in Lahore.

In 2018, just when it seemed they would not make it to the playoffs, Zalmi bounced back with four wins in a row and qualified for the final against Islamabad United in Karachi. Even though they lost the match, Zalmi gave United a run for their money when they took 6 wickets for 20 runs while defending a target of 149.

With 19 wins out of 33 completed matches, Zalmi’s success percentage (57.57) is second only to the United (59.37).

The two-time ICC T20 World Cup winning captain Daren Sammy’s spirited leadership has been a vital cog in Zalmi’s consistent success in the HBL PSL. Sammy took over the leadership duties from Shahid Afridi and led the team to a title victory in his first year as captain in 2017.

The all-rounder from St Lucia also has the highest batting strike-rate of 182.75 for any batsman in the HBL PSL’s short history. He is likely to lead them in the fourth HBL PSL too.

The Zalmi this season have also picked the two-time HBL PSL winning captain Misbah-ul-Haq in the diamond category.

The 44-year-old has not played a T20 match since the last PSL, but two months ago scored 91 and 44 not out for SNGPL in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final in Karachi. Knowing that he is the most successful Test captain of Pakistan, his experience will be a big draw for the Zalmi this tournament.

Another big name that has moved to Zalmi for the fourth HBL is the world’s most capped T20 player Kieron Pollard. The West Indian all-rounder comes in the tournament with an experience of 444 T20 matches and is known for his big-hitting as reflected by 560 sixes he has hit in 20 overs cricket. He played the last two seasons for Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings.

The Zalmi also have the bragging rights for producing the most successful bowler and batsman in the HBL PSL.

The left-arm speedster Wahab Riaz is the bowler who has played a big role in making Zalmi a highly competitive team. Wahab has 48 wickets at an economy of 6.75 and is aiming to become the first to reach half-century of wickets in the HBL PSL.

“I am very excited for the fourth edition. It is a very important tournament for me. I have always performed in the HBL PSL and being the leading wicket-taker there is an additional pressure on me. So, obviously your team and people are expecting a lot from you,” said Wahab.

“I want to become the best bowler this year. The most important thing is that I want to perform and show my skills so that I can also be part of the Pakistan team [in ODIs and T20Is] which I really want to be for more than a year now,” he added.

Kamran Akmal is the another player who has contributed to Zalmi’s success. He has struck 929 runs at a strike-rate of 133.28 across three edition of the tournament and is likely to become the first batsman to 1000 runs in the HBL PSL.

Even though he has two centuries in the tournament, his 27-ball 77 innings at a whopping strike-rate of 285.18 that single-handedly won Zalmi the Eliminator against Karachi Kings last year in Lahore has been the highlight of his star-studded HBL PSL career.

The Zalmi have built an intense rivalry with the Gladiators. Each of the three games they have played in the playoffs have resulted in a one-run win. The Gladiators won the thrillers in 2016 and 2017, whereas the Zalmi prevailed in 2018.

There will be special eyes on the Zalmi when they take on the Gladiators in their first game of the HBL PSL 2019 in Dubai on February 15.

Squad (in the order of pick):

Overseas: Kieron Pollard (West Indies), Daren Sammy (West Indies), Liam Dawson (England), Dawid Malan (England), Wayne Madsen (England), Andre Fletcher (West Indies), Chris Jordan (England).

Local: Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Amin, Umaid Asif, Khalid Usman, Sohaib Maqsood, Jamal Anwar, Sameen Gul, Nabi Gul, Ibtisam Sheikh, Samiullah.

Match schedule

15 February – v Quetta Gladiators (n), Dubai

17 February – v Lahore Qalandars (n), Dubai

21 February – v Karachi Kings (n), Sharjah

22 February – v Islamabad United (n), Sharjah

24 February – v Multan Sultans (d), Sharjah

28 February – v Multan Sultans (d), Dubai

1 March – v Islamabad United (n), Dubai

4 March – v Quetta Gladiators (d), Abu Dhabi

5 March – v Lahore Qalandars (d), Abu Dhabi

7 March - v Karachi Kings (n), Karachi

So basically they are going to be Kami or bust. Can’t depend on Umar Amin, Sohaib Maqsood and Kieron Polard to consistently score in the tournament. An over the hill Misbah and a fragile Sammy hardly helps the cause. Feels like a recipe for disaster. Dawson can be the X factor though. Bowling looks solid to me.

Since Afridi's departure they have been the most boring team with a lot of TTF's.

Not excited about this team but I do expect Kami and Wahab to win them a few games getting them to Pak.

"Peshawar always encourages togetherness, that's the first thing we try to do, make sure everybody is gelling really quickly so that it becomes easier when we go on the part"

"In the technical aspect, Kami looks good, Maqsood looks good, all the bowlers are looking quite good. It'll be a difficult task to pick an XI, which is a good thing"

"We have more or less our core of guys back, we've added Pollard, Misbah, Maqsood into the squad and a few emerging players but the core of the team is still there and we build the squad around them"

"The point is to play a brand of cricket that has been entertaining so that we connect with our fans, win matches and hopefully we end up in the finals. It won't be easy as all the teams are pretty good"

"It's all about experience (Misbah). The wealth of experience he brings to the dressing room will go a long way. He has captained Pakistan and on the field as well, he'll add experience and keep the guys calm which comes in handy when the pressure is on"

"Throughout the years PZ hasn't really relied on one person, it's always been about a team and I encourage the guys to go out there and express themselves, play a brand of cricket that shows we never give up and we've done that over the years"

"We've been preparing physically and technically for the 1st match. Mentally I think we're in a good space, most of our guys have been playing cricket so it's a good thing that we come in with cricket under our belts. I always like to focus on our team and what we have in the dressing room, I tell the guys that if we do what we do well, not many teams will beat us, we have what it takes to win the competition"

Message for fans "We are the number one fans in the PSL, I expect to see all Zalmi fans in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, when we play here make sure you come out and paint the stadium yellow. I can't wait to go down to Karachi to experience all our fans there. All in all, I want the PSL to be successful. Come out and support some good cricket, I think this year will be the best year because all the teams have some really good players. Any team could win"

Nabi Gul seems to have made a decent start to his domestic career. Anyone seen him bat ?

Sohaib Maqsood will be replaced by Umar Amin probably.

Personally I want to see Nabi Gul play.

Misbah-ul-Haq on TV:

In T20 cricket, you need wicket taking and attacking bowlers. It makes a lot of difference.

Both Malan and Jordan have been picked for the England T20I squad for their series against the Windies.
