A major PTI rally has commenced on the outskirts of Islamabad on Sunday, with workers from across the province gathering at the venue for the event, the party announced on the X platform.

The rally began with Party leader Hammad Azhar addressing the crowd, stating that supporters had gathered today to establish the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution in the country.

He added that no obstacle would deter them today.

“We will, God willing, secure Imran Khan’s release.”

The rally, initially scheduled for July and later August, was postponed twice after authorities revoked permission, citing security risks and fears of unrest.

The party is staging the rally today to gain support for the release of the party’s founder Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since last August. Imran was expected to be released from prison after a district and sessions court accepted appeals against his conviction in the Iddat case. However, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested him in a new Toshakhana case shortly afterward.

His sentences in the previous two Toshakhana cases were already suspended while he was acquitted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the cipher case, too.

For the past several months, the PTI had been trying to get approval for a public meeting in the capital but it was not allowed by the administration.

The party approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for permission in March after receiving no response from the district administration.

In July, the PTI announced a protest but it was postponed as district administration did not allow the party to hold the protest. The meeting was rescheduled for August 22 but district administration cancelled the NOC at the eleventh hour, giving a new date of Sept 8.

Police block Islamabad’s entry points ahead of rally

As the party finalised its preparations for the rally today, the capital police blocked almost all entry points of the city amid intelligence reports of a ‘medium-level’ terrorism threat in light of the political gathering.

The 21 points blocked with containers are Nicholson’s Monument, New Margalla Road turn on G.T Road, Sangjani Toll Plaza, Water Tanki on Margalla Road, New Margalla Road Loop opposite F-10/2, 26 Number Chongi, Zero Point, Faisal Chowk, Khayban Chowk, Rawat T-Cross, Khanna Bridge, Tramri Chowk, Shahpur Road Turn, U-Turn on Murree Road, Bridge on Murree Road near Traffic Office, Faizabad, 9th Avenue, Gandum Godown, Golra Mor Haji Camp, Motorway Old Toll Plaza, and Tarnol Phattak, they added. All the roads leading to the ‘red zone’ except for the Margalla Road are also blocked.

The party’s Punjab spokesperson Shaukat Basra said in a post on X that the Punjab police hierarchy had given “unconstitutional” orders to its formations across the province (to stop workers).

Speaking to Dawn, Basra said the party leadership had changed its strategy in the wake of the police movement and asked its workers across the province to reach Islamabad individually. “Workers have been asked to avoid police action and reach Islamabad individually,” Mr Basra said.

The district administration earlier this week issued a no-objection certificate to the public gathering on the outskirts of Islamabad, with a condition that the permission can be cancelled at any time in case of a “security situation”.

The venue is a 350-kanal compound located on Paswal Road near Sangjani and is reportedly under the control of the military establishment.

The selection of the venue has also energised the PTI workers as they believe that the ice has started to melt between the PTI and the powers that be.

Senior PTI leader and former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser decried the placement of containers and police blockades, deeming them the measures of a “fascist government… creating a hostile environment”.

“It is unfortunate that this fascist government with a stolen mandate is creating such a hostile environment,” Qaiser said in a video message uploaded by the PTI to X. “They approved the NOC (non-objection certificate) and the court has permitted the rally, but Rawalpindi has been closed off.”

He accused the government of defying court orders by attempting to block routes to the rally.

“They break the law themselves, yet they lecture us on it,” he stated.

Supporters clash with cops at PTI rally as leaders demand Imran’s release

PTI leaders rallied on the outskirts of Islamabad on Sunday, demanding the “immediate release” of their founder, Imran Khan, while criticising the government for marginalising the party as police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The party was staging the rally today to gain support for Imran’s release, who has been imprisoned since last August. Imran was expected to be released from prison after a district and sessions court accepted appeals against his conviction in the Iddat case.

However, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested him in a new Toshakhana case shortly afterward.

His sentences in the previous two Toshakhana cases were already suspended while he was acquitted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the cipher case.

The rally began with party leader Hammad Azhar addressing the crowd, stating that supporters had gathered today to establish the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution in the country.

He added that no obstacle would deter them today.

“We will, God willing, secure Imran Khan’s release.”

Speaking during the rally, PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan demanded Imran’s “immediate release” and lamented how the party’s leaders were being “sidelined” by the government.

“I never thought there would be a day that Imran Khan, who formed our party to save Pakistan, would be put in jail,” Ali Muhammad said.

He added that today, neither PTI stalwarts Murad Saeed nor Shehryar Khan Afridi were present at the rally, nor was Qasim Khan Suri.

“Why can Murad Saeed not come out of hiding? Is it a crime to love Pakistan, or speak the truth? We will continue speaking the truth, as will our children”, he asserted.

“Today, Pakistan’s biggest party is in Pakistan, but our workers cannot go to parliament. What is their crime?”

PTI maverick Sher Afzal Khan Marwat said: “We have one message for the Pakhtuns, that we will go to Punjab within a week, and Ali Ami Gandapur will tell you the date.

“These people, who erected the containers, whose police charged you with batons, I want them to listen [that] we are coming to Lahore,” Marwat said.

Meanwhile, during her speech, PTI member Aliya Hamza Malik questioned whether Pakistanis wanted true freedom and their rights or wished to continue witnessing enforced disappearances in the country.

“Do you want a Pakistan for future generations, or one where your homes are attacked? Come out and demand Imran Khan’s release, you will all come and support me, as I know you are standing with the leader in Adiala.

“He will see how he’s struck fear into the government. We need to come out for our leader’s release now.”

Towards the end of the rally, PTI supporters clashed with the police as the latter tried to disperse them. Footage emerging on television and social media showed the police firing tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

According to the police, the local administration had designated a timeframe for the rally, but as it exceeded the hours, the police had to attempt to disperse the supporters, which led to clashes and the ultimate use of tear gas shelling.

Police added that by exceeding the timeframe, the rally organisers had violated the rules and regulations detailed in the no-objection certificate (NOC) issued to the party. Thus, the Islamabad DC ordered police to disperse the attendees, instructing police and the administration to take strict action.

According to a notification dated September 8, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the designated meeting time was from 4pm to 7pm. Rally organisers were informed of the timing at 6pm, the notification read.

Police and PTI workers faced off at Chungi No 26, where workers allegedly pelted stones at responding police officers. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Safe City Shoaib Khan was among the many policemen injured in the clash, per the police.

Meanwhile, the shelling continued by the police to disperse the workers from the area.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi took notice of the clashes and sought a report from the inspector general of Islamabad Police. According to a statement from the interior ministry, Naqvi has been in contact with the injured SSP and has ordered the provision of the best medical facilities to the injured policemen.

Slamming the police intervention at the rally, PTI’s Azhar called it an “idiotic move” in a post on X.

“What an idiotic move to start shelling on peaceful participants,” he wrote. “Will raise the political temperature in a situation where the public is already furious at the form 47 govt.”

Meanwhile, talking to the media, Awaam Pakistan chairman Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the people should be allowed to protest and that authorities need to learn from the mistakes of the past.

“If someone’s protesting, let them. We need to learn from the past and allow the people to speak their minds.”

The PTI and the PML-N will come to be if there’s unity, he added.

“We should not think about a party or a seat, but about the country as a whole.”

Senior PTI member and former president of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi also took to X to criticise the police’s attempts to disperse the rally.

“Shameful, cruel, cowardly, and senseless act. Conspiracy to destroy a peaceful assembly,” he wrote. “I appeal to the people to remain peaceful because those who can impose a false May 9th can raise all kinds of false flags. May God destroy the enemies of Pakistan.”

Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that the people of the country had “rejected PTI’s rally”.

According to the state broadcaster, Radio Pakistan, Tarar said that the PTI was “spreading lies and propaganda” by uploading fake videos on social media.

“PTI’s leadership of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has miserably failed in mobilising the masses”, the report quoted him as saying.

Tarar, according to the report, added that it was the democratic right of a political party to hold a public rally, so there was nothing special in this regard.

“However, the rally should end within the time allowed by the district administration,” he said.

The rally, initially scheduled for July and later August, had been postponed twice after authorities revoked permission, citing security risks and fears of unrest.

For the past several months, the PTI had been trying to get approval for a public meeting in the capital but it was not allowed by the administration.

Imran's party defies odds, breaks capital rally barrier

At last, PTI did not fall victim to nervous 90s, shattering the long-standing psychological barrier as it rallied in the heart of the capital after the general elections - an achievement that many thought was a bridge too far.

Proving the party's political muscle despite the odds, the PTI supporters poured into Islamabad on Sunday with flags held high and heads unbowed.

However, the build-up was fraught with tension. The government hurriedly passed a law on peaceful assembly, locked down the twin cities, and reportedly closed highways and motorways linking Islamabad with the rest of the country.

The government's actions fed the impression that the ruling coalition was looking over its shoulder, uneasy about an opposition flexing its muscles so close to the corridors of power.

Nevertheless, despite stern warnings from the administration and a government reaction that made it seem like a do-or-die situation, PTI not only managed to secure permission for the Jalsa but also successfully held the rally outside of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa - its stronghold for over a decade - following the general elections.

Political analysts noted that the party, battered by repeated crackdowns and its leader Imran Khan's imprisonment, managed to turn a tough situation into a political win. Political analysts saw the rally as a major milestone, setting the stage for PTI's future manoeuvres.

Raza Ahmad Rumi, a policy analyst and journalist, and Professor Tahir Naeem Malik of NUML University opined that PTI managed to gather a sizeable crowd despite the restrictions, noting that it also showed that the party still enjoys public support amid its claims that its mandate was stolen in the elections.

While sharing his views, Rumi said that PTI managed to assemble a sizable crowd despite restrictions and "it was a success for the party that feels aggrieved at the hands of the establishment."

The expert noted that the legal and administrative hurdles backfired as the rally on Sunday night received media attention as well as mobilized its support base.

"While the party may have crossed a psychological barrier of holding a rally outside KP, it will not majorly change the power equation; and the clear-cut policy of government and establishment on keeping Imran Khan in prison," Rumi said.

Commenting on the government's reaction, Rumi said that the government's reaction was self-destructive as it appeared nervous and insecure and "reaffirmed PTI's narrative that the ruling coalition does not enjoy public support."

To the question of what impact will the political activity have in the coming days, Rumi noted that "Pakistan's political chess board is set by the unelected institutions such as the military and the present government has outsourced politics to those who should be staying away from political contests."

"People have once again expressed confidence in PTI just like they did on February 8," Professor Tahir Naeem Malik of NUML University said, "holding a power show out of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and taking the center stage amid lockdown and crackdown is a success for PTI after a while."

Commenting on the impact and how it could help PTI in the coming days, the professor noted that PTI was discussed, appeared relevant and managed to create momentum, which it feels is necessary for future events.

He said the PTI leadership and workers have come out amid a difficult situation, saying it's the outcome of the party's long legal battles supported by party organisations.

Malik noted that the absence of a local bodies system was also evident as the deputy commissioner was calling the shots, adding the government's reaction helped a normal activity to turn into a big power show.

He felt that the government didn't want to even give PTI space for holding normal political activity, saying it did not want PTI to gain any momentum.

Won’t tolerate Imran’s military trial, PTI warns

At a long-awaited public rally on Sunday, the leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) demanded the immediate release of jailed party founder, vowing it would not stand for a military trial of Imran Khan.

“If Imran Khan is not released in two weeks, we will go to get him released,” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur told participants of the PTI public meeting in Sangjani, on the outskirts of the capital.

If Mr Khan is not released, he warned the PTI’s ‘verbal struggle’ could turn into a ‘bloody struggle’.

He also threatened their opponents, saying if Mr Khan was not released, he would institute cases against them in his province. “Now the KP government is completely in our control and I will make cases against you,” he said.

“Imran’s lawyers have said that all cases against him have been decided in his favour and now he must be released immediately, otherwise we will go to the jail to get him released,” he said.

Addressing the military establishment, the KP CM said that even they could not prevent him from securing Imran Khan’s freedom.

Beset by postponements and the absence of official permission from the Islamabad administration, the show of strength had been in the making for several weeks now.

But considering the hurdles placed by the administration, and the long-winded routes many had to take to make it to the venue, the turnout at the public meeting was quite impressive by the time darkness fell.

Responding to a statement by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif that Imran Khan could face a military trial because of his involvement in the May 9 mayhem, Mr Gandapur said: “Even your father, or those you consider your father, cannot stop us from getting Imran Khan released.”

He claimed the PTI had not received former ISI chief retired Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed “in their dowry” and said those who made him head of the spy agency were responsible for his deeds.

“Keep your house in order, otherwise we will keep the military in order. It is our institutions where our brothers are serving on the borders,” he added.

The KP CM said PTI founder was targeted under the garb of May 9 cases, adding that he would reveal at the next public meeting at Lahore. “I will tell all that May 9 was an excuse to target Imran Khan,” he added.

He said the PTI had decided not to tolerate any injustice and excesses, and will respond accordingly.

“If anyone hits us, we will hit them,” he added.

Mr Gandapur also told the participants of the public meeting that they would soon receive a call to make a ‘bloody sacrifice’ to secure what he called ‘real freedom’.

No ‘minus Imran’ formula

Speaking on the occasion, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said his party would not tolerate any new cases instituted against Mr Khan, and was hopeful that the party founder would soon be released from jail.

He said that Imran Khan was a reality and everyone would have to accept that reality. “This is not the 1990s that you can ‘minus’ someone,” he said, adding that Imran Khan was, is and would remain their leader.

He lamented that even though permission was granted to hold a public meeting, the local administration had fully barricaded the federal capital so that PTI workers could not reach the venue. “All the routes leading to the public meeting were blocked with containers,” he added.

Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party Chief Mahmood Achakzai and other PTI leaders, such as Omar Ayub, Hammad Azhar also spoke on the occasion.

‘Failed show’

For its part, the government termed PTI’s public meeting “a failed show”, saying that the opposition party had not managed to mobilise people or bring them out of their homes.

“Millions of people who were supposed to bring a revolution today, nobody knows where they have gone. Have they gone to some other country or another place,” Information Minister Atta Tarar said on Sunday.

Speaking to the media, he claimed that the PTI had to resort to fake videos to give the impression of huge rally and uploaded false and fake posts on social media to cover up thin attendance.

He made it clear that the PTI leadership could not escape accountability by such tactics, adding that the PTI founder will have to face trial for corrupt practices.

He remarked that the PTI’s leadership both in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had completely failed to bring convoys to the public rally.

Separately, he blamed the PTI for the clashes with police at Chungi No 26, saying that PTI did not believe in peaceful protest.

He remarked that the PTI’s leadership both in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had completely failed to bring convoys to the public rally.

“PTI has a track record that it always adopted a path of violence. PTI workers clashed with police after the failure of its public meeting,” the minister said.

Mr Tarar said CM Gandapur, who was leading a rally from Peshawar, intentionally reached the venue of the public meeting late after he got to know about the “failure” of the event.

PML-N’s Talal Chaudhry vows to send KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur to jail over police clashes in Islamabad

PML-N Senator Talal Chaudhry on Monday vowed legal action against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for leading party supporters who “attacked and pelted stones” at Islamabad police at last night’s rally.

Chungi No 26, on the outskirts of the capital, turned into a battleground on Sunday night as police clashed with PTI supporters after the latter allegedly refused to stick to the designated routes for the public gathering in Sangjani.

A dispute with the district administration over the agreed timeframe for the event also caused consternation among official circles.

Police claimed that PTI supporters ignored the traffic instructions and insisted on using the route set for the general public, which caused tensions to rise before PTI supporters started pelting police with stones.

In response, the police party retaliated and resorted to baton charge and tear gas shelling. Dozens of protesters were also arrested and bundled into prison vans, and were later taken to different police installations.

In a televised address today, Chaudhry said: “Once again, the Islamabad police was deliberately attacked by the people who had come to Islamabad under the leadership of the KP chief minister.

“Not only will those who attacked and pelted stones but also their mastermind will be arrested and sent to jail over this chaos,” he asserted.

Chaudhry said: “No one stopped them (PTI supporters). No policeman stood in their way. There was no obstruction [yet] they attacked the police on purpose in a botched attempt to hide their failed jalsa.

“Not only will the law take its course but in the coming days, I see his future from being the KP chief minister to going to the Adiala Jail,” the PML-N senator said.

Ahead of the PTI event, the Islamabad administration had taken extraordinary security measures and blocked all the entry points of the city with containers.

Addressing Gandapur, the PML-N lawmaker said it was “not possible that you threaten the institutions and the parliament that we will not let things run”.

“We have vowed that we will not let political incitement continue […]. No matter how much legislation we have to do to achieve this or give strict punishments, we will do so,” Chaudhry affirmed.

“As long as you had the facilitation and General Faiz [Hameed], you were able to do everything [but] now, you could not even organise a small rally,” the PML-N leader claimed.

He went on to say that even if the PTI held scores of rallies or initiated a movement over May 9 cases or the £190m graft case against incarcerated party founder Imran Khan, it would “not get an NRO”.

The senator censured the PTI leaders at Sunday’s rally for only speaking about Imran rather than the issues affecting the common citizens, such as inflated power bills, rising food costs and the economy.

Hinting at difficulties for the PTI in obtaining permission for future rallies, Chaudhry said that the party’s violation of the agreement with the Islamabad administration for the rally would be considered when reviewing future requests.

Accusing the PTI-run Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of corruption, the Chaudhry demanded that the party “return the money embezzled” under the Peshawar metro, Billion Tree Tsunami, and road construction projects.

“It is not possible that the money that should have been spent on the people of KP is used to organise rallies and descent upon Islamabad,” he said.

During his address, the PML-N leader went as far as terming Imran an “Israeli agent”, basing his allegation on a recent blog in Times of Israel that itself termed Imran’s potential role in shaping Pakistan-Israel relations as “speculative”.

Federal Ministers accuse PTI of misusing resources for Islamabad rally

Federal ministers Attaullah Tarar and Engineer Amir Maqam have alleged that attendees at the opposition’s recent rally were forced to participate, accusing the opposition of using unethical tactics to fill their event.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, the ministers criticized the opposition, particularly the Chief Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, for his use of provocative language at the rally.

Amir Maqam claimed that public resources were misused for the gathering, and that the opposition's rhetoric is focused on threats rather than solutions for the nation.

He further stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders were involved in internal conflicts over corruption, leading to a disconnect with the public.

He highlighted the disrespectful remarks directed at Maryam Nawaz during the rally, calling it an affront to the nation's traditions.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar reiterated that Pashtun traditions of respect for women were violated at the event and condemned the opposition for failing to address critical issues like terrorism.

He also pointed to PTI’s governance failures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, criticising their inability to launch a single major project during their tenure.

Both ministers concluded by stating that the rally had been a failure and urged PTI to shift its focus towards serving the people of the province.

Earlier, Attaullah Tarar asserted that the public had rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally on Sunday.

In a statement regarding the PTI event, he noted that traffic in Islamabad and Punjab remained normal, questioning the whereabouts of the millions of people who were supposed to bring about a revolution.

He criticised PTI for using fake videos to promote their rally and accused the party of employing false and fabricated tweets to conceal the event's failure.

He claimed that the PTI engaged in spreading false information and propaganda on social media.

What's the point? May 9 has shown is that establishment will crush everyone. Imran Khan has turned out to be another failed project binned to the history by Pakistan military.

What's the point? May 9 has shown is that establishment will crush everyone. Imran Khan has turned out to be another failed project binned to the history by Pakistan military.

It’s Pakistan, Imran Khan could be out in a couple of weeks and Nawaz Sharif could be sitting in Jail by December.

Of course it's over when you have likes of gandapur coming to islamabad playing pashto songs defiling maryam safdars name and saying we will sort out establishment claiming his father was killed by the them.

Saying establishment is killing afghan children so they are not going to send you flowers but suicide bombers.

Then it's definetly over.

Pti is an ethnofascist movement from kpk that's what it's become.

One of the demands is to remove army from kpk

Lakki marwat police want pakistan army out the same police who is corrupt full of corrupt admissions will hand over their stations and areas to ashnas from afghanistan who will the use it as launch pad to attack into punjab and other areas.

Everytime there is an attack these gandapur appointed police abandon their posts they are in charge of kpk and have conspired with infiltration of terrorists.

I said before you in these 2 province kpk and balochistan u need to appoint governor raj and declare martial law.

There is not going to be a romantic fairytale of old of 10000 troops butchered in khyber pass because today is the 21st century it's all about intelligence operations, fast special forces and more importantly drones which can enter holes and trenches as we saw in armenia and ukraine.
And if all else fails massive firepower from air and artillery gone are the days of horse drawn wagons , coolies carrying pots and troops marching 100s of miles carrying muskets .

Court grants bail to Sher Afzal Marwat, other PTI leaders in Islamabad rally case

An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad has granted bail to several arrested members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) National Assembly, including Sher Afzal Marwat and others.

The court ordered their immediate release upon the submission of surety bonds worth Rs30,000 each.

The hearing, presided over by Judge Abu Al-Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, reviewed the cases of the arrested PTI lawmakers.

The prosecutor argued that Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Ahmad Chattha had been named in the case, which carries a minimum sentence of three years.

However, the court inquired whether any evidence had been recovered from Sher Afzal Marwat, Ahmad Chattha, and other legislators, to which the prosecutor confirmed no such recovery had been made.

The arrested PTI members, including Sher Afzal Marwat, Sheikh Waqas, Ahmad Chattha, and others, were booked under anti-terrorism charges in multiple police stations, including Sangjani, Tarnol, and Noon.

Last week on September 9, Islamabad police arrested PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan MNA Sher Afzal Marwat outside Parliament House following a National Assembly session on Monday.

According to Express News, a heavy police presence had gathered outside the Parliament House in anticipation. As PTI leaders exited the building, police took positions and swiftly moved to detain Marwat.

Police officials reported that at least three cases were filed against PTI supporters and leaders at Sangjani and Noon police stations following Sunday's rally.

Police also stormed the parliament last week to arrest several PTI leaders, as well as the head of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Sahibzada Hamid Raza.

The arrests came a day after PTI ventured into a legal minefield to stage its rally in the capital on Sunday, the government wasted no to arrest its leaders for flouting the last-gasp laws hastily enacted ahead of the highly anticipated event – widely seen as a test of embattled party's political muscle.

PTI Determined to Hold Lahore Rally

Despite heightened tensions, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will go ahead with its planned rally in Lahore on September 21, despite ongoing police raids, arrests, and legal challenges. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed on Wednesday that the rally will proceed as scheduled.

The party’s leadership has shown determination to organize the rally, even without the required No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from local authorities. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja stated that the party would not be intimidated by government actions. “We are not afraid of fascism and are ready to face jail, but the rally will happen on September 21,” he declared.

Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, described the event as a stand for democracy and the rule of law. She mentioned that women from Lahore would lead the rally and promised a peaceful protest despite potential police action. “Whenever Lahore rises, all of Pakistan follows,” she asserted.

To oversee preparations, the party has formed a 27-member organizational committee led by PTI Lahore President Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood and Secretary General Awais Younas. Meanwhile, the police have conducted raids across Lahore and other parts of the province, arresting several party members.

The PTI parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly, Ali Imtiaz Warraich, was briefly detained before being released. Additionally, a late-night raid was carried out at the residence of PTI leader Aliya Hamza, who had recently been released on bail after a 16-month imprisonment.

In response, PTI filed a petition with the Lahore High Court (LHC), seeking protection from the arrests. The plea, submitted by Sheikh Imtiaz Mahmood and Yasir Gillani, argues that the police are violating the constitutional rights of PTI members.

PTI granted permission for Lahore rally at Jallo Park after LHC ruling

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has received official permission from the district administration to hold a rally at Jallo Park, Lahore on Saturday, September 21.

This approval comes following a directive from the Lahore High Court, which ordered the district administration to make a decision on PTI's rally request by 5pm.

The Deputy Commissioner’s office issued the permit, specifying that the rally will take place at Jallo Park instead of the originally planned Minar-e-Pakistan venue. The PTI has been authorised to hold its gathering between 2pm and 5pm.

Earlier in the day, the opposition leader of Punjab, Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, along with several members of the Punjab Assembly, visited the Minar-e-Pakistan site only to find the gates locked and a heavy police presence barring their entry.

The district administration, in a proactive move, has restricted public access to Minar-e-Pakistan by locking all gates and placing containers on the access roads. A significant police deployment has also been stationed at the site.

Meanwhile, PTI's preparations for the Lahore rally have entered the final stages. A convoy led by Chief Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur is scheduled to depart from Swabi tomorrow morning. The PTI leadership has instructed each candidate to bring along 500 supporters.

The convoy, headed by the chief minister, will carry machinery to remove any obstacles encountered on the route.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Information Adviser, Barrister Saif, confirmed that all preparations for the Lahore rally have been completed. "A sea of people from Swabi will head towards Lahore," he declared, urging the government not to create hurdles for the rally. "Maryam Nawaz should keep her composure," he added.

It is noteworthy that the Lahore High Court had earlier dismissed a petition seeking to block the rally, stating that it was inadmissible. The court directed the Deputy Commissioner to decide on PTI's application by 5pm, as per the law.

Incarcerated PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, during an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail, warned that if the government denied permission for the Lahore rally, "we will turn the rally into a protest." He added that if the rally was blocked, "the entire nation will protest at Minar-e-Pakistan."

Khan asserted that the rally is intended to "protect democracy and freedom," a right endorsed by the Supreme Court but repeatedly obstructed by the government. He criticised the government's approach to rallies, questioning why obstacles were set up at previous gatherings, despite assurances. "If the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore does not permit the rally, we will protest at Minar Pakistan," he reiterated.

Comparing the current situation to former president Musharraf's era, Khan noted that even during martial law, political rallies and media freedom were not as severely restricted. "Musharraf's elections were freer and fairer than theirs, and he did not impose bans on the media and rallies," Khan remarked.

Khan concluded by criticising the government's selective approval process, stating, "Their requests are being heard, while ours are being rejected."

Lahore administration permits PTI Sept 21 rally from 3-6pm at Ring Road

The Lahore administration on Friday permitted the PTI to hold its rally in the provincial capital tomorrow from 3-6pm at Ring Road’s Kahna area, subject to compliance with 43 conditions.

The no-objection certificate was issued by the office of the Lahore deputy commissioner (DC) to PTI Lahore President Imtiaz Mahmood and Aliya Hamza Malik later today after the high court ordered the city administration to decide by 5pm upon the PTI’s petitions for the rally’s permission.

A three-member bench took up the petitions a day ago and sought the personal appearance of top civil brass, including the Punjab chief secretary, the police chief, the commissioner, the DC, and the advocate general.

The NOC said it was being issued after undertakings by the organisers that they would take full responsibility in case of any untoward incident.

Among the 43 conditions, the third one said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur should tender a public apology for his “vitriol” during the party’s Islamabad rally on September 8.

They said that groups of supporters from outside the city would not come and “disturb daily routine life” and no anti-state sloganeering would be allowed.

The conditions also said that those PTI members under trial for hate speech in the Islamabad rally would not be allowed to appear and participate on the stage while no proclaimed offender would be allowed to take part in the rally.

They added that the arrest of any proclaimed offenders would be the responsibility of the rally organisers, failing which they would be tried for abetting the wanted people.

The conditions further said that no audio or video message of a proclaimed offender or any convict would be aired or shown.

“In view of overall security situation and threat alerts received from different quarters, the organisers are once again cautioned and strongly advised to undertake all requisite precautionary measures in and around the venue for safety of participants and general public since this public gathering are being convened at their call,” the NOC stated.

The PTI has already launched its mass contact campaign to muster support for the much-hyped Lahore power show, formerly planned to be held at the Minar-i-Pakistan ground.

Each time the party sought permission to hold its power show in recent months, the Punjab Home Department imposed Section 144 to ban political gatherings.

Punjab police begin crackdown on ‘fugitive PTI workers’ ahead of Lahore rally

The Punjab police arrested on Friday “fugitive supporters of PTI” ahead of the Lahore rally, having previously indicated plans to apprehend around 4,000 individuals wanted in connection with the May 9 incidents.

Multiple arrests have already been made during a corner meeting in Gulberg, Lahore. Police raided the event, leading to clashes between the police and PTI supporters. When PTI workers responded with stones, the police resorted to aerial firing.

Following such confrontations, more than 20 PTI workers were taken into custody and transported to the police station in a prisoner van. In response to the arrests, agitated protesters blocked the Mini Market road and set tyres on fire.

In a strategic move, sources with the Punjab government said that the government has developed a plan to apprehend approximately 3,700 suspects and proclaimed offenders linked to the May 9 events.

The Lahore police have gathered data on these wanted individuals using Safe City cameras and have established special teams tasked with identifying and arresting them.

Police arrested four individuals, including the district president of the Insaf Students Federation Rana Mohsin Munhas in Vehari. They have been transferred to the district jail for 30 days.

Sources said that raids were also being conducted on the houses of other PTI leaders in district.

Detention orders issued for 5 PTI leaders as party gears up for Lahore rally

Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Musa Raza on Saturday issued detention orders for five PTI leaders, including its Lahore Vice President Akmal Khan Bari, as the party geared up for a power show at Kahna.

The stand-off between the PTI and the Punjab government ended late last night, as the former was finally granted permission to hold the rally, subject to compliance with 43 conditions.

The party had earlier sought permission to hold its much-anticipated gathering at the iconic Greater Iqbal park that houses Minar-i-Pakistan. However, it was allocated Kahna along the Lahore Ring Road.

According to the DC’s order issued today, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, five PTI leaders were to be detained for 30 days from the date of arrest under sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

The PTI leaders comprised Shahzaib Khan, Akhtar Munna, Mazhar Shah, Raja Shafiq and Bari, the order said, adding they were “prejudicial to the public safety” and MPO.

“They create problems for the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and incite the public through their objectionable speeches,” it said, adding that the leaders were always at the forefront to destroy the public peace and law and order.

Yesterday, while addressing a public gathering in the Gulu Dheri area in Swabi, former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser said that PTI workers and leaders were fully prepared for another “momentous” public meeting “for constitutional supremacy”.

‘43 conditions’

The Punjab government has reportedly set “43 conditions”, one of which is a public apology from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his widely condemned speech at PTI’s Islamabad gathering on Sept 8.

While the PTI team has said they refused to guarantee an apology, Insaf Lawyers Forum President Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan said Gandapur “may clarify his position during his speech at the Lahore power show”.

Another stipulation is that the rally be held between 3pm and 6pm. However, Ishtiaq Ahmad said the PTI team did not agree to this and the deputy commissioner agreed that the government would not force this condition.

An officer in the chief minister’s office told Dawn that the government had officially decided to allow the PTI to hold its power show but would make ‘clandestine’ efforts to reduce the turnout from outside Lahore.

The permission letter carrying 43 conditions made organisers responsible for ensuring stage security, security of male and female enclosures, emergency exits, measures for avoiding and controlling stampedes and adequate parking by hiring private security and volunteers.

One restriction stated that mass public rallies from outside of the city should not disturb life within Lahore. It also stated that no anti-state or anti-institution sloganeering and statements be done during the power show.

Another condition stated that all those facing cases for hate speech at the previous Islamabad rally should not be allowed to participate or appear on stage. It also said no proclaimed offender would participate in the public meeting.

Similarly, no Afghan flag would be allowed to be hoisted and no “Afghan-paid manpower” to be brought to the rally. Another condition mentioned that in case of any untoward incident, the organisers would be held responsible.

The rally had been a bone of contention since July, when PTI initially sought permission for the public meeting.

The Punjab government eventually allowed the PTI rally after Lahore High Court’s three-member bench ordered DC Raza to decide on the PTI application by 5pm yesterday.

PTI leaders make their way to Lahore for political power show

Several PTI leaders moved towards Lahore as the party gears up for its much-awaited power show at Kahna in the provincial capital’s Ring Road area today.

According to videos shared by PTI, party leaders including Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandpur were en route as they tried to “open” their way to Kahna.

In a video posted on X by PTI, CM Gandapur led the way himself as party workers got past the blockages near the Attock toll plaza.

“Our convoy will meet KP CM […] and then, god willing, we will go towards Lahore,” Ayub said in a video message posted on X.

While responding to a question about roadblocks and hindrances along the way, the opposition leader said: “We have machinery, we will open the way and go. No one can block us.”

In a post on X just before 3pm, when the rally was scheduled to begin, provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that PTI had failed to fill even “three dozen” seats.

She claimed the party had shown “fake and outdated videos” of the previous rally, adding her party would release the original scenes this time so there was “no doubt”.

Videos shared by the PTI Lahore account purportedly showed its leaders and workers heading from various areas of Punjab and KP to Lahore.

However, in a post, it claimed that the Rajana interchange was blocked off to traffic.

Azma Bokhari claims ‘low attendance’ at PTI rally

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has claimed that the Imran Khan-founded party has failed to gather larger number of supporters for the Lahore jalsa, saying that the people of Pakistan have rejected the party’s “politics of anarchy”.

Giving a breakdown of attendance at the public gathering, she claimed only 1,500 people from Lahore reached the venue.

“PTI’s Dera Ghazi (DG) Khan leadership arrived with 100 to 150 people, while Sheikh Imtiaz managed to gather only 15 to 20 people. Rai Hassan Nawaz brought only 60 to 70 people,” she said.

Furthermore, the minister claimed 1,500 to 1600 people from Lahore attended the rally; 65 to 85 people from Gujranwala; 63 to 77 people from Faisalabad; 26 to 32 from Sahiwal; and 117 to 155 from Multan.

Won't accept anything other than independent judiciary: Gohar

Addressing the charged participants, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan— who just arrived at the rally venue — said that his party would not accept anything other than independent judiciary.

Congratulating the PTI Lahore chapter for organising such a ‘huge rally’, Gohar urged the authorities to refrain from creating obstacles for party workers and open the roads leading to Lahore and the venue.

As I said, isolate Punjab and see how the rest of Pakistan prosper.

If people decided not come to jalsa then it isn’t because they do not support IK it is because most Pakistani have given up on Pakistan.

You won't prosper

Balochistan and kpk would be worse than afghanistan totally under control of taliban and tribals And most of the land is bhanjar without punjab what are they going to eat plums nuts and stones. Even their chapli kebabs come from old cows and buffalo's from punjab. These people before pakistan lived of raiding punjab and northern India.

And sindh sitting on the sea even with its own sindhis in charge due to their own tribal wadera culture is worse than a sub saharan african country, famine , drought, a whole village where only the kids caught hiv aids and adults were ok that never even happened in africa , and who would be the leader bilawal no country even the Liberal West has a transgender as a leader 😄

Besides if army wasn't there sind would be overtaken by india pretty quickly plenty of treacherous people there large hindu population, kanerias , gujjus bengalis , karachi would turn into a pretty quick bloodbath , karachi doesn't produce anything it's a port most produce is from punjab a land that has been sung about of its fertile plains since the rig vedas and provides the bulk of the manpower to ward of India on western front 3 times and most of pakistan diaspora even azad kashmiris are an extension of punjab they're not true kashmiris.

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, You got humiliated on the 8th Feb and needed the drunk retarded Mistry to change the results on the 9th Feb. Each and everyone one of your leaders lost and today they are hostages of the Generals. So much so that they voted for a constitutional amendment that they hadn't even seen like sheep herded into pens. That is your auqaat and the less said about the likes of you and the other losers that still support them, the better.🤣🤣🤣🤣

As far as 1971 is concerned- Mujeeb won the election and the Awaami league should have formed the govt but Yahya and Bhutto were power hungry and decided to split the country. Look at the 8th February, the PTI won in KP, Punjab, GB and AJK( earlier) and in Karachi but a retarded Mistry and his puppets ignored the result, why? We are PKS, we are Punjabis, Pathans, Urdu Speakers, Sindhis and Baluchis. Who the hell are you? Bar your pathetic racist crap that was rejected on the 8th Feb, you have no support. NS was beaten by a cancer sufferer in jail. The beghairat then claimed that he won, and his own appointed retard told him to get lost.

Kasi Mistry all left humiliated and stunned

What’s the goal with these Jalsas?

The leader of your party was almost assassinated twice.

Party workers and family members being kidnapped because of their affiliation with PTI.

Not allowing your party to contest in the elections.

Stealing your mandate after your party wins a 2/3rd majority.

And, now they’re trying to amend the constitution to essentially ban PTI.

So, the response for all that is to protest peacefully?

How about taking back your country like how SL and Bangladesh did?

Rallies aren't the priority; improving economic conditions is: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a statement addressing the country's political and economic situation.

The Prime Minister stated that the public has rejected divisive politics and prioritised improvements in economic policies.

"The people want relief from inflation, solutions to their problems, and economic recovery," he said

Shehbaz emphasised that instead of filling arenas for rallies, the focus should be on improving the economic conditions of the people, Express News reported.

He added that rallies can be held in 2028, but now is the time to work hard to fulfill the promises made to the public.

The Prime Minister pointed out that economic recovery is tied to political stability. Political chaos would hinder the process of providing relief to the people.

He stressed that national unity is essential for strengthening political stability, which will guarantee Pakistan’s bright economic future and relief from inflation.

He further stated that the nation, political parties, institutions, and provinces must work together to address economic challenges and terrorism.

More time cannot be wasted on political chaos, as it is not in the country’s interest.

Shehbaz expressed gratitude for the drop in inflation back to single digits and improving economic conditions, citing increases in exports, remittances, a stable rupee, and lower interest rates as clear signs of economic progress.

He emphasised that the real success would be if this is the last IMF program Pakistan needs.

He concluded by saying that insults, violence, and chaos will not improve the economy or society, and every province and institution must play its part in solving the public’s problems.

The Prime Minister's statement on the country's domestic issues comes ahead of his address to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly taking place from September 23 to 27 in New York.

The premies, earlier during the day, had landed in London for a stopover after departing from Pakistan.

Upon landing at Heathrow Airport on Saturday evening, he was seen heading to his apartment near Edgware Road in central London.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the Prime Minister will meet with global leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly, and participate in meetings on the rising sea levels and leadership for peace.

PTI to hold public rally in Mianwali on Sept 29: Gandapur

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur has announced that the party will hold another political gathering in Mianwali on Sunday, September 29.

He announced this during a video message released on X today.

Gandapur paid tribute to the people of Lahore for “breaking the shackles of fear” and coming in numbers to attend the party’s Lahore rally on Saturday.

The KP chief minister condemned the Punjab government’s “dirty tactics” to stop the nation from attending the rally.

PTI had to end the Lahore rally abruptly after police took control of the stage after the city administration’s deadline of 6 pm expired and forced leaders and supporters to leave the rally location.

“Despite all your attempts, the people of Lahore came out in numbers and failed your plans,” he said.

He further announced that the party will hold another rally in Punjab, this time in Mianwali, on Sunday.

“Before that, we will hold a nationwide protest on Friday to demand the release of our leader and PTI founder Imran Khan.”

Gandapur also refused to tender an apology, as demanded by the federal and the Punjab governments on the nature of the language used by him during the Islamabad rally on September 9.

“Why should I apologise when I haven’t done anything wrong” he said, adding that the PML-N and the establishment should first apologise to his leader [Imran Khan] and his people for all the wrongdoings and injustices they have been facing for over two years.

A near miss for foreign diplomats in swat being escorted by kpk police could have been killed and a massive national incident and embarrassment.

If this goverment fails we are going back to military rule with certain civilian technocrats installed.

Military will never back the ppp since they have no huge support outside sindh and both father and son can never be trusted again.

And ik has gone full crazy in any reconciliation process with the establishment

Nooras are the lesser evil that can be tolerated by the establishment atm.

Pakistan is already under military rule. It wasn’t long ago when they passed a bill to amend the Secret Act which would allow agencies to detain, raid, arrest citizens without a warrant. Imagine you saying something online, and a bunch of armed men come arresting you in the middle of the night without a warrant. The current government allowed that to happen.

Military will never back the ppp since they have no huge support outside sindh and both father and son can never be trusted again.

After what we saw in the last elections, Netenyahu could run in the Pakistani elections and win a 2/3 majority with the help of the establishment. So, don’t write off PPP.

There should be no reconciliation with the establishment, it’s the only way to break the shackles. Put the military in their place, take all their power away and make sure they never interfere in country’s political affairs. Maybe then we’ll see a PM lasting a full term.

And ik has gone full crazy in any reconciliation process with the establishment

Nooras are the lesser evil that can be tolerated by the establishment atm.
Unless you have been hiding a rock We are under millitary rule fronted by puppets . The Junta forced your sheep to vote for an amendment they hadn't even seen. Are you happy with such beghairati?

PTI seeks permission to hold rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on Oct 5

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday submitted another application to the Lahore administration to hold a gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on Oct 5.

The party has submitted the request at the city's district commissioner office.

It merits mention that the event, if allowed, is to celebrate the birthday of PTI founder Imran Khan, and the party has requested the rally be held from 5pm to 10pm.

It emerged that the PTI has assured that all participants will strictly adhere to legal protocols.

PTI plea seeking permission for Rawalpindi rally fixed for hearing

As per details, the PTI has named the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, CPO, Home Department, and Provincial Government as respondents in their plea.

The plea stated that PTI wants to hold a rally at Liaquat Bagh or Bhaata Chowk and has informed the district administration about the arrangements and security concerns.

The PTI alleged that the government is using state machinery to suppress their voice and demands that the police be restrained from arresting party workers and leaders ahead of the rally.

The court has fixed the plea filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for hearing tomorrow (September 26).

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf moved the deputy commissioner’s office to seek permission for September 28’s public rally in Rawalpindi.

The application seeking venues of Liaquat Bagh or Bhatta Chowk for public rally was submitted by PTI leaders Ghulam Husnain, Owais Younis and Nabeel Satti.

PTI requested Rawalpindi DC to release NoC for public rally on September 28, citing Pakistan’s constitution allows parties to carry their political activities.

The request has been received by the DC.

Imran Khan cancels Rawalpindi rally on Sept 28

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Thursday directed the party to postpone its power show scheduled in Rawalpindi on September 28.

Talking to media in Adiala Jail, the former prime minister said that he knew that the government wouldn’t allow PTI to hold a rally.

Imran Khan directed the party to withdraw the application that was earlier submitted seeking permission to hold power show.

However, the party would stage protest in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

“We’ll hold protests in Rawalpindi while the lawyers’ forum of party will protest outside the Supreme Court,” said Imran Khan.

Earlier, PTI had submitted a request to hold a rally in Rawalpindi on September 28.

The application was filed by PTI District President Chaudhry Ameer Afzal and District General Secretary, accompanied by a team of lawyers, at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The request stated that PTI is the largest political party in the country and that holding a peaceful rally was a constitutional and legal right of every political party.

PTI had proposed Liaquat Bagh and Bhata Chowk as potential venues for the rally.

PTI gears up for protest in ‘garrisoned’ city today

LAHORE / RAWALPINDI: In an attempt to thwart PTI’s protest on Saturday (today), the provincial government has banned all public gatherings and stationed paramilitary forces in Rawalpindi.

The party has announced Liaquat Bagh as the venue for the protest, which was earlier planned to be a jalsa. However, the PTI founder changed the decision, saying that the government would not allow his party to hold the event in the city and designate a venue in the suburbs.

In a video message on Friday, PTI Punjab acting president Hammad Azhar said the party would hold a “massive but peaceful political public gathering” at 2pm.

He urged the supporters to reach the venue well in time, as the party’s previous gathering in Lahore last week was forcibly cleared by the police for extending beyond the allowed time.

Even though PTI leaders have vowed to reach the venue “despite all hurdles”, it won’t be an easy task.

Rawalpindi Police, Rangers and Punjab Constabulary have planned to “lay a virtual siege” to the garrison city to stop PTI workers, a senior police official confirmed.

No traffic would enter or exit the city as roads would be blocked with containers and barbed wires.

“Extraordinary security measures have been taken to ensure peace in the city and nobody will be allowed to stage any protest,” the top police official said.

Section 144 imposed as authorities gear up for PTI protest in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Rawalpindi Division for two days as authorities gear up for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) protest announced by the former ruling party in the city today.

The notification, issued by the Punjab Home Department, prohibits all political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, protests and similar activities, The News reported on Saturday.

The development comes as PTI had initially planned to hold a rally in Rawalpindi today which was later turned into a demonstration as announced by the party's founder Imran Khan on Friday.

The former ruling party, as announced by Khan, had also withdrawn its application seeking a no-objection certificate (NOC) to hold a rally from the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench.

The PTI, as part of its months-long efforts to secure permission to hold public gatherings, has managed to hold two rallies in Islamabad and Lahore under strict conditions in recent weeks.

The Lahore rally, held on September 21, had come to an abrupt end after police took control of the stage, turning off the microphone and lights, as the event exceeded the deadline set by the city officials.

Following the gathering, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced that the party would hold rallies in Mianwali and Rawalpindi after which an application was submitted to the latter's deputy commissioner seeking permission to hold a rally at either Liaquat Bagh or Bhatta Chowk.

K-P CM Gandapur vows to overcome all obstacles to reach Rawalpindi for PTI protest

Chief Minister of Khyber-pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, has stated that they will overcome every obstacle to reach Rawalpindi.

He asserted that they are ready to face everything and challenged the Punjab government, saying, "Do whatever you can; we are not afraid."

According to Express News, the Chief Minister's convoy has arrived in Mardan, where he spoke to the media, declaring that "something big is about to happen."

He mentioned that Section 804 has been enforced in Pakistan and insisted, "We will overcome every obstacle to get to Rawalpindi; let's see what happens next."

He stated that the Punjab government should do its job, and they are ready to face any challenge. "Whatever the Punjab government can do, let it do; we are not afraid."

PTI not yet allowed to hold rally in Karachi tomorrow

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has not yet been given permission from city authorities for the protest rally in Karachi on Sunday (tomorrow).

Commissioner Karachi has invited recommendations from the deputy commissioners and SSPs of East and South districts.

The Commissioner will take decision after the feedback from officials about allowing or not the PTI about holding a protest rally in the city.

PTI-Karachi had announced to hold a protest rally from Karachi Press Club to Mazar-e-Quaid on Sunday to force for the implementation of the Supreme Court’s order on the reserved seats.

The PTI had given an application to the Commissioner for permission of the protest rally.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, PTI’s city president Raja Azhar said that the Supreme Court’s decision had made it clear that the reserved seats belonged to the PTI.

Excellent show by PTI, electricity is being cut off at this place and some suspicious elements with weapon also roaming disguised as protestant please watch out

Gandapur calls off protest after getting stuck at Burhan Interchange

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was unable to join his party’s protest in Rawalpindi as he got stuck at the Burhan Interchange, where he later announced the end of the protest and instructed workers to return home.

Supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) arriving from K-P had gathered at Burhan Interchange, and after the Punjab Police halted shelling, they began advancing towards Rawalpindi.

Long queues of vehicles formed on the motorway, with PTI workers leaving their vehicles to march on foot. Gandapur’s convoy arrived at the scene, and the chief minister instructed his supporters to move forward, despite the ongoing shelling.

However, as they progressed, Punjab Police resumed shelling, leaving Gandapur trapped in the crowd. Subsequently, he announced the conclusion of the protest and urged the demonstrators to disperse, stating, “We will return again.”

As tensions rose at Burhan, PTI workers blocked Chief Minister Gandapur’s vehicle, protesting the police shelling and motorway closure. They demanded that Gandapur lead them on foot. In response, the chief minister briefly exited his vehicle and encouraged the protesters to continue advancing. However, when some workers insisted he join them on foot, Gandapur lost his temper and allegedly used inappropriate language before retreating to his car.

Meanwhile, Barrister Dr Saif, a senior PTI leader and K-P government spokesperson, praised Gandapur’s efforts, stating, "The chief minister recorded a strong protest today by crossing the Attock border and demonstrating on Punjab soil."

He added, "Despite the obstacles, Gandapur spent five hours confronting the full might of the Punjab and federal administration. After the protest ended, he returned to Peshawar."

Dr Saif also confirmed that the protest in Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh had concluded, and announced that, on the orders of party founder Imran Khan, PTI would resume protests next week.

Meanwhile in Rawalpindi, clashes between PTI supporters and police erupted and the situation turned violent during a protest march towards Liaquat Bagh.

The area around Committee Chowk became a battleground after PTI workers removed containers set up by the authorities to block their path.

Chanting anti-government slogans, large numbers of PTI supporters gathered at Committee Chowk, demanding access to Liaquat Bagh. According to Express News, the workers removed the barricades and began marching towards their destination. In response, the police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, leading to violent clashes along Murree Road.

The confrontation spread quickly, with major clashes reported from Committee Chowk to Liaquat Bagh. PTI workers retaliated by hurling stones at the police, who responded with more tear gas. The escalating violence turned the entire area into a conflict zone, with PTI supporters attempting to push through the heavy police presence.

“PTI workers were in large numbers, and the police were trying to control the situation, but the workers started throwing back the tear gas shells fired at them,” a witness told Express News.

Police reinforcements were called in as the clashes intensified, and several roads, including Murree Road, Committee Chowk, and Liaquat Bagh, were sealed off to prevent the march from proceeding.
