Rohit Sharma dropped a straightforward catch, denying Axar Patel a hat-trick during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh. Yet, there’s hardly any criticism directed at him. This is the perfect example of the "star culture" in Indian cricket—certain players escape scrutiny, while others face relentless backlash. Just imagine the outrage if someone like KL Rahul had dropped the same catch. The reaction would have been completely different.

More than that, I beleive its about the current tide in Indian cricket. There would have been bigger outrage if Kohli dropped the catch since he is the one under scrutiny for a long time. Rahul, Gill, doubt they will be getting much hate for this.

Bhai i already Criticized him but most of posters are not taking bangladesh team seriously.

And India was in good position that time .

Axar Patel finally reacts after Rohit Sharma's dropped catch denied him a Champions Trophy hat-trick, speaking to broadcasters during the post-Bangladesh innings interview:

"A lot happened. I didn't know if it (Tanzid Hasan wicket) was out, but KL appealed and it was out. Then I go the second wicket. The third one, when the edge was found, I thought I got my hat-trick. It was an eventful over. I started to celebrate and then I saw it (Rohit dropping the catch). I didn't react and just came back. It's part of the game."

Rohit Sharma in post match ceremony:

"It was an easy catch, should have taken it. I will take him (Axar) out for a dinner tomorrow maybe (laughs)."

There's a difference.

You won't see much chaos in the dropping catch because the team was in good position and it has affected only axar.

If.... It was a match turning moment, then chaos would have been much higher. It doesn't matter who the culprit is. You guys already know that indian fans have very little tolerance and they don't excuse even the stars.

There's no double standard because the standards are not the same.

Since Rohit is the captain the matter isn’t being highlighted much in India. But Axar Patel missed a hat trick. Opportunities for a hat trick don’t come every day.

If anyone other than Rohit had dropped this catch, there would have been an uproar in the Indian media by now.

Scrutiny, backlash, criticism from where ? Who is this directed at ? A couple of posts on Twitter ?

Which prominent Indian cricketer has tweeted about it? Bhai wake up Axar Patel missed a hat trick. Does this seem like a small matter to you?

Which prominent cricketer tweets about dropped catches from India?

Why is sharma smashing the ground? I know it’s the Middle East is he expecting oil to squirt out.

No one cares about drop catches if team has won the game. Rohit would've been criticised more if India had lost the match.
