[PICTURES/VIDEOS] "Though I am the oldest in the team, you can compare my fitness with a 25-year-old": Shoaib Malik

Today in the National T20 Cup Super 8 stage, Shoaib Malik scored 84 off 56 balls to take his team Sialkot Region's score to 163 against Rawalpindi Region. This is his 80th fifty+ score in t20s. Moreover, he also completed the landmark of 1000 fours and 400 sixes in T20s.

Malik had earlier expressed that he wants to break Chris Gayle’s record for most runs in T20 cricket.

The all-rounder needs 1719 runs to create history as he currently has 12,843 runs in 482 innings in T20 cricket while Gayle has 14,562 in 455 innings.

Shoaib Malik rescued Sialkot with his 54 (44) innings against Karachi Whites in the National T20 Cup 2023.

During a chat with local media, PCB Chief Selector Wahab Riaz said about Shoaib Malik:

"Shoaib Malik is a player who consistently performs day in and day out. I don't think he needs to prove himself by scoring runs; he has showcased his caliber, especially in T20 cricket. In my opinion, even if he scores just one fifty, he can make it into the team. If he manages to score four fifties, it might not necessarily secure his place in the team. His value lies in more than just numbers. It's crucial to assess where Shoaib Malik fits into the team's formation. I acknowledge his capabilities, having played alongside him regularly. He is the kind of player who may not consistently score runs but is a match-winner. Giving priority to match-winners is a common practice, but moving forward, it's essential to evaluate the team's formation and how we align various elements. This assessment is crucial for determining Malik's role in the team."

I think he should be considered for the ICC T20I World Cup 2024. We badly missed an experienced player in the ICC T20I World Cup 2022.

One of the greatest cricketer to come from Pakistan.

25 years and still going. Can he break SRT's record of cricketing career duration?

Today in National T20 Cup 2023 in super eights fixtures, Sialkot's Shoaib Malik scored 64(33) against Lahore Whites

When T20 cricket started it was considered ideal for retired players. Malik should not compare his fitness levels to seasoned cricketers who play non-stop all through the year

well he can, because paks fitness standards are so lax, he keeps himself in way better shape than most of the regular first team players.

Congrats to him on 13k runs, but it's more of a testament to his fitness than to his prowess as a batter imo.
I feel like he's an ok batter, handy but nothing special. Took quite a few innings to get to 13k, and will get surpassed quickly.
Interesting no T20 century for him and terrible SR.

@Asad T

His career SR his horrendous but the last 10 years his strike rate + average is ridiculously good, especially for our standards.

Average of 40 striking at 140 (Min 200 runs)

Wishing a Happy Birthday to Shoaib Malik.

A guy who is a T20 World Cup winner, and Champions Trophy winner, he Captained Pakistan to the 2007 T20 WC Final, the Fifth leading ODI run-scorer for Pakistan, Second leading run-scorer in all T20s.

Over 11,000 international runs in 22 years of international cricket for Pakistan.

The way he’s been moving in his private life and his suss antics on field of late, ain’t no happy birthday wish for this brother but can’t argue he’s been a hell of a servant to the national side.

His fitness is an inspiration for many hoping that he will break Gayle's record for the most runs in T20 soon.

Sohaib Malik was phenomenal with the ball for Karachi Kings against Multan Sultans in PSL 9. He bowled only 2 overs and conceded just 10 runs. His ball drifting was brilliant, and the lengths of his deliveries were amazing. Batters like Dawid Malan and Reeza Hendricks were clueless in front of him.

I have to say Shoaib Malik is in great shape even though he is like 45 now.

He scores and runs better than many youngsters.

Agreed.kudos to Malik for taking care of his health and maintaining his fitness even at 45. Though it also speaks volumes about the lackadaisical approach to fitness of the many younger players.

Shows the pitiful standards in the country when a 45 year old Shoaib Malik, who bare in mind isn't much of a natural athlete, is considered the epitome of fitness.
I mean lets not take away the credit and work ethic from Malik. When Anderson does it world writes poems over his longevity.

What a fitness this guy had, still better than many active players!

Abdul Razzaq said while speaking on a local media program:

"Shoaib Malik has been playing for many years. His innings could be good for himself, not for the team. A player is someone who plays for a team. In this kind of cricket you can't sustain pressure after 42 or 43 years."

While it was raining sixes in Karachi against Karachi Kings. Shoaib Malik delivered reasonably economical spell. He went wicketless but was an impactful spell against Islamabad United. He secured 0/31 in 4 overs

way he got run out tonight it is better for him to say goodbye to cricket, he was jogging on the crease.

I mean it's nothing special lol. Cricket requires very little physical exertion. It's not like we're looking at a LeBron who's still dominating one of the most physically explosive sports at 40 years of age.

He is not only the fittest of the fittest ones, but his economy rate is the lowest one as well for spinners in this PSL edition.

Funny how a 40+ year old can have an easier time at the military training camp then some 25 year olds playing in psl.

Can't question his fitness. It's embarrassing how much fitter he is than the guys in their prime.

but his batting strike rate will always remain a major concern is this format.
Yeah, he is just not firing with the bat. Not that he is making his return to the Pakistan side but still he should fire up for his team in PSL.

Malik has been consistent and economical in this PSL 9, today, again, he is bowling at an economy rate of 5.33 so far. Overall, his economy rate in PSL 9 is 6.50.

The only reason Malik stays relevant is because of his media presence. If he didn't have that he would have become irrelevant 10 years ago.

Bring him back for the World Cup. If you can bring washed up Amir back, why not Malik?

He is still fitter than almost everyone in the team and he is still a better middle-order batsman than the likes of Azam Khan, Shadab and probably even Iftikhar.

There is still time. Send Azam Khan back to Pakistan and process Malik’s USA visa.

54(41) for Shoaib Malik while playing for Pakistan Champions against West Indies Champions in the World Championship of legends 2024

Shoaib Malik after a poor showing with the bat, finally finding his MOJO with the ball for Pakistan Champions against India Champions as he dismissed Ambayti Raydu and Gurkeerat Singh. His figures so far 2/12 in 1.2 overs.

Malik was the sole reason why Pakistan legends scored 240 and only 270 in the game vs India.

A selfish player whose best is always a 18-20 ball 25 regardless of the match situation.

Shoaib Malik played a magnificent knock in WCL when pakistan lost 2 early wickets, he is currently playing at 51 off 32 deliveries.

This might ve been good call lmao

So unfortunate Malik was discarded and ignored for this year's T20 World Cup. He was your best or one of the best options for the middle order in those conditions.

Wahab Riaz laughing at Malik's feeble attempt at fielding a full-blooded drive :)

Need to get in and back Abdullah Shafiq/Saud Shakeel, Kamran Ghulam, etc. You wouldnt see oldies returning in other TOP teams no matter how fit they were.

Yeah bring him back and Pak will start winning matches overnight like it used to under his captainship. Our system loves to bring tried and tested people. No wonder we are in this dismal state.. World has progressed and we still want to cling to olden times. Teams are planning for next 5-10 years for newer cricketers to take over and we go back 5-10 years...

He can do whatever he can but his age is not on his side. I am not sure if PCB is interested anymore in bringing him back. I think he should just say good bye on his own.

He would have been a better choice than half the players we selected in the T20 WC side but he’s still over the hill which doesn’t say much about our current lot. He will be hosting game shows with Fahad Mustafa full time very soon.

Playing with a strike rate of 88.89 in the WCL 2024 final against India, and he dreams of playing for Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup

Malik has good physical fitness. His physique are testament to his athleticism. However he is lacking power

During an interview with a local sports media outlet, Shoaib Malik highlights his retirement plans:

"I am very happy and satisfied after playing for many years. I have no interest in playing for Pakistan again. I have already announced my retirement from two formats (Tests and ODIs), and one format (T20Is) is left, but I'm still playing in leagues and enjoying myself. Wherever I get an opportunity, I try to avail it. However, playing for Pakistan is no longer my interest. Now, whenever I announce my retirement, it will be from all types of cricket. I don't have any interest in playing for the national team now."

The veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik will feature in the Max60 Caribbean League, starting August 18 in the Cayman Islands. Get ready to witness his skills in T10 format alongside other cricket legends

He is the Anil Kapoor of cricket.. not going to retire anytime soon. :ROFLMAO:

PCB appoints Shoaib Malik as mentor for PCB's Champions Cup team

Shoaib Malik will guide the team in the One-Day tournament, starting on September 12, and will be involved in strategic planning, team-building, leadership, and personal development.

Now, with this new role, the question arises, is Shoaib Malik's playing career in leagues like the PSL and other franchise cricket tournaments coming to an end?

I'm beyond thrilled to see the legendary Shoaib Malik back with the Stallions. He's been appointed as their mentor for the Champions Cup 2024. Malik has shared so many memorable moments with the team as a player and captain, and now he's returning to share his expertise and passion with the next generation.

I've always had respect for malik, he kept his fitness intact and he always did his best to represent his team.

It's just a shame that he was compared to other allrounders and other players who were superior to him which is why he got the mantra of parchi.

However this guy even now at his current age wipe the floor with most of our current allrounders like agha, Nawaz, Shadab etc etc.

Pcb really need to focus on bringing agha up to speed and maybe improve Saud's bowling, I firmly believe these 2 can be impactful for pakistan in all formats

Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shoaib Malik claimed that he was offered a role in the national men’s selection committee ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, he said:

“Look, I only received an offer once before the [T20 World Cup] to become the selector,”

“At that time, the entire selection committee had equal powers as there was no chief selector. But my reason [behind declining] was that I am still playing cricket and how can I select those cricketers with whom I play so it did not make sense that you play cricket and become a part of the selection committee simultaneously,”

“I’ve already said that I do not have any interest in playing for the Pakistan Cricket team,”

“I’ve already retired from two formats, Tests and ODIs. In T20Is, I do not have any interest in playing for the Pakistan team.So my plan is to retire from all forms of cricket once and for all.”

Still one of the fittest to go around in World Cricket. Although I do believe his time is over. He should announce his retirement from T20I Cricket if he is not available for Pakistan.

Malik is more suited to the coaching role for our T20 team. We are rubbish at hitting average spinners, Malik was amongst the best we have had at hitting spinners. Surely, he can pass on some knowledge to our batters
