As a Test player Jaiswal is already better and having more impact.

The innings in Perth showed great maturity — he paced it beautifully which belittled his tender age.
What an exceptional talent and we are all lucky to see it.

Head has played 50 Tests and has had an ok impact, but hardly setting the world on fire.

As a white ball player Head is special and Jaiswal needs to prove himself on that stage (assuming he is given the chance).

I think BCCI should just keep him for tests and give him a few T20I's here and there. They have not given him any ODI's yet. Perhaps never will. Which is fine. He should be kept for red ball only.

He will make plenty of $$ in the IPL. So no worries on that end.

Yup. Don't want T20 spoil his test skills.
 
Not sure why Jaiswal is being compared to Head. Different positions to begin with. Also, Jaiswal has 15+ years in front of him, while Head has about 5 years.

Jaiswal has scored half the runs that Head has scored. But Head has 35 extra tests. Centuries wise, 4 to Jaiswal and 7 to Head. So, Jaiswal is catching up quickly.

Leaving laxman's iconic knocks in tough situations against warne,McGrath,Lee,steyn,Johnson, akthar he should have aswin's brain to knock smith, root, stokes,sanga etc .on top of it he possess Jadeja's fielding ability ,agility .If he is combination of those 3 ,he should be the greatest all rounder world ever saw and better than sobers.Damn Aussies are so doomed.

Head's that WTC final innings is worth 10 times more than Jaiswal's innings.

Head also scored a glorious hundred in 2023 WC which silenced 120,000+ spectators.

Jaiswal is very good but he is not better than Head currently.

Wc winner in odi
Wc winner in t20 and wtc although wtc is a rubbish format for the final. So I am discounting that as aus lost 4 tests in a row to India

In saying that jaiswal is not a 10th of the talent head is. Head is far superior. You are correct


Jaiswal doesn't even play LOI anyway cause he ain't good enough. In tests though, head is still far superior. Even in difficult conditions he scored 89. Jaiswal only scored when the pitch was flat. Also jaiswal faces an inferior bowling attack

Indian bowling attack is better than aus. So head is facing tougher bowlers.

Jaiswal got better stats than Head in t20s too.Jaiswal got better strike rate and average too.he got more centuries than Head.only wannabes doesn't want to acknowledge it.In a nutshell jaiswal is better than Head what ever format he plays

India needs 2 more batsmen in the mould of Jaiswal. Someone with similar temperament. Jhurel has shown some promise. But he has to tighten his technique a bit. Gill is working on it. But he still has some weaknesses

Logic says if aus beat India in odi final 2023 they can an easily beat them in England in the finals for wtc

Bumrah played in 2023 odi final so yea it doesn't matter in the end. Jaiswal is inferior to head

Id have trouble but id have an easier time then Laxman.

Gill is improving but it looks another 2 years to fill all the holes.Sai Sudharshan is really good with his temperament and technique. He is useful in odis and test matches. He has to score more runs and win the race.Easwaran will be completely ruled out by selection committee due to his atrocious batting.Even gaikwad was the worst player on spicy tracks.

"He's (Jaiswal) a guy that will probably get more than 40 Test hundreds and write some different records. He's got a great ability to adapt to different conditions. It's going to be scary if Australia can't find a way to stop him over the next few games."

Everyone has highlighted what he did in between the shots. That is what you don't see from many youngsters. Impeccable footwork, defense, judgement. Rare quality you find among modern players. Even some oldies don't have the temperament. Rohit after getting beaten 2 or 3 times he just throws the kitchen sink.
 
For all the experts who argued jaiswal was poor but not lived in poverty, building his image for pr etc .find the place where he stayed and his mentor/coach interview in the below video. Unless someone is dirt poor,no one will prefer to stay in that tent

He needs 282 more runs to beat Indian record of 1562 runs by Sachin in 2010.
Mohammad Yousuf's record will also be gone if Jaiswal scores another 508 runs in those remaining six innings.

It is tough to score that many runs against an opposition like Australia. At the best he will beat Tendulkar's record.

His single digit scores aren't a problem, can happen even with the best. However, him not facing enough number of deliveries especially as a test opener is worrying. He isn't giving himself enough of deliveries to settle and that's the biggest worry.

He is a smashing player but this humiliation was necessary. He should learn from this experience and stay humble.

Jaiswal was run out after scoring a well-made 82, which included 11 fours and 1 six. It was his call, but with the ball already in hand, he ran himself out.

Terrible stuff from Kohli here. He is supposed to answer Jaiswal’s call rather than ball watching.

Good knock from Jaiswal but India in trouble at the moment.
 
Amazing knock by Jaiswal, our batting mostly looked good apart from Rohit Sharma, we can eke out a draw at the very least.

Surely a 31-year old fast bowler cannot be India's captain? Indian cricket needs a batsman captain for the long term.

How about Jaiswal? At 23, he can be a Graeme Smith style appointment and can work well for the future.

Hardik Pandya has got it covered for T20s. For ODIs and Tests, we need captains. Bumrah can’t be full time captain in any format. Jaiswal is the likely choice as far as Test cricket is concerned. He is the best batsman in the country and now he has completed his first overseas tour of SA and Aus both. Let’s start the next WTC campaign with a new captain.

We also need an ODI captain.

Jaiswal needs another 2 years to settle down and prove himself in different countries. In nz tour, he was suffocated heavily as entire responsibility went on his shoulders. He may have to bear following rohit and kohli retirements.Let pant be the captian .Gill should not be the vive captain in t20s and tests.he cant be an automatic choice in those formats. .He went down hill quite quickly. Jaiswal can be vice captain. In odis again kl, pandya should not be captain. Pant and Gill will be contenders.not sure about axars captaincy stuff.
 
Ya it's a good option but I prefer Bumrah captain for now and Jaiswal vice captain who can step in when Bumrah is rest for minnow tours.

The BCCI is considering Yashasvi Jaiswal as a potential candidate for India’s next Test captain, with Shubman Gill emerging as the frontrunner to take over the ODI team after Rohit Sharma's retirement. As Rohit’s form in Test cricket has been inconsistent and with his advancing age, the BCCI is focusing on building a leadership group for India’s future.

While India has typically refrained from having different captains across formats, the busy schedule has seen various players step into the role in recent years. Rohit, having retired from T20Is, has seen Suryakumar Yadav take charge in the T20I format. However, the situation is different for ODIs and Tests. Gill has been elevated to vice-captain for India’s upcoming ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy, with the BCCI considering him for the ODI captaincy. Gill has had success at the top of the order and has previously captained Punjab in the Ranji Trophy and Gujarat Titans in the IPL.

However, Hardik Pandya, who previously captained India in T20Is, could pose competition for Gill due to his experience. Despite concerns over Pandya’s fitness, he remains a strong contender for leadership duties.

The selectors face a challenge in selecting a Test captain. While Jasprit Bumrah is one of the top performers, his workload and fitness could prevent him from taking on the role. If Bumrah is ruled out, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant could emerge as possible captaincy candidates. Pant has led India in T20Is and has IPL experience, while Jaiswal, though relatively new to international cricket, has shown enough promise to be groomed as a future leader.

After thought process is re active but thinking for long term is pro active .earlier they made a mess by making old about to retire rohit as captain of all formats especially test format.Atleast this time they are considering only young guaranteed players in all formats.
 
Finally Jaiswal makes his ODI debut today against England in the 1st DOI of the series.... I think he can do good job in this format as well after dominating Tests.
