What Waqar and Ian Bishop were discussing were Amir's lack of swing and the causes of it.

When they analysed his action, they spotted that his right shoulder was collapsing a fraction too early and his head position was wrong in that it was tilted to one side and not where it should be.

expect the one-line merchants to come in and cover for the failing Mickey Arthur by taking potshots at the messenger

Unlike Wasim, Waqar actually knows what he's talking about.

This drop of the shoulder is due to the lead arm dropping. Amir at his best like in the the spell against India makes a conscious effort to raise that front arm as high as possible.

And before you ask, yes I have sent the pictures etc to Mohammad Amir :)

And Azhar (Bowling Coach) has no idea about this?

Azhar is the one who identified it and told Waqar. This is an issue that takes a while to fix and I don't think Amir currently has the strength to maintain that extension throughout his action. It's improved but not quite there yet. He's still bowling 90 mph but it's not as easily generated as was pre-ban. Since the return, for the first year or so, Amir was struggling to get to the crease, lacking leg strength. That's improved a fair bit since then. This is the next stage. Building the action one step at a time from the base.

Expect someone to attack Waqar with "Oh well easy for you to say the right thing from the commentary box, you did nothing as coach" yes guys, Waqar should from henceforth spew absolute nonsense like "In my honest assessment salman butt made me do it has been bowling exceptionally well, I didn't expect the time out the game to affect his bowling; technically Amir is very sound"

But you know...what he has to do is flick the wrist...like that. Just flick the wrist.lol

Agree with your statement on 2 W's.

So its not the inability to lock wrist and just able to swing the ball :wasim:

Wasim akram was way too talented to know the technicalities of bowling.

Like KP didnt need much of a technique to dominate the opposition.

He said in a you tube interview with PCB channel that he is working on this issue so he can bring the ball back into the right handers. Also he has been watching his old videos for help.

Waqar and Bishop know a thing or two about fast bowling. Hope Amir takes their analysis seriously. Well done to Saj for conveying the message.

Good to see Waqar getting technical in the commentary box after doing zilch as coach, but it is about time these issues are fixed. I'm sick of Amir's defensive rubbish and 10-50-1 type performances that don't do anything for the team and have no impact.

Why couldn't Waqar fix these technical issues when he was the coach?

He was too busy making them do 100 laps of the ground, which was supposedly his solution to every problem when he was coach. A terrible captain and a terrible coach, but does good lip service in the commentary box.

Yeah I seen that! Thry also suggest he should have more side movement in his front shoulder to swing the ball

Brilliant and highly technical analysis by two of the best fast bowlers of their time, enjoyed it. Bottom line, , 6 years of absence from any level of cricket has taken its toll and we will never have the Amir of old but with sheer hardwork, he still can become a very good bowler.

Amir was brought in cricket too early for his own good. Then, he got that Dhaka wicket to bowl by luck & people got excited.

I think, after a full County season with Essex, he should be physically stronger & ready. Identifying a problem is the easiest part - now he has to work at nets & Gym to rectify that & apply in match condition. Apart from technical issues, he is bowling too short & his Captain is giving him shorter spells - both needs to be corrected.

Guys, in the period 1989-1991 you would not believe how good Ian Bishop and Waqar Younis were.

They outbowled Curtly Ambrose, Malcolm Marshall, Imran Khan and Wasim Akram!

You can tell the difference between Wasim and Amir's head position at the point of release.

I think lack of any competitive cricket for 5 years has reduced the flexibility of his wrist and that has hampered his swing, If I was Amir I would remodel my self again the back of length defensive rubbish will not work for him best thing for him would be to become a skiddy reverse swing merchant he will never regain the flexibility f the wrists to go back to being a Steyn/Anderson like new all demon.
