Babar Azam seems to receive a lot of attention from PPers but not many seem to realize how much of a burden he is carrying in terms of expectations, which is why this post deserves to be recognized as POTW

Well done RagingJ

So many expecting a 24 year old to led this teams batting worries out of the hole it's in. When your openers aren't great and you have a middle/lower order that really aren't proper batsmen when comparing to the top 8 teams, what more is expected from this guy?

The worrying fact for Babar is, at the time he came into the team at he should have been the one getting guided by the team and the players around him, instead, people are expecting him to carry the other 5 batsmen in the team on his own.

Instead of focusing on the negatives, focus on the positives, Pakistan finally have one solid batsman in their team that has very few flaws (minus the ones that get nitpicked), instead of coming at him on a regular basis when he fails, the blame should go to the rest of the team that near enough fails every game.

Babar has things to improve on definitely, but calling him a mental midget as he tried to get runs in a powerplay off a freebie? Not sure how that constitutes to being a mental midget, if he blocked that ball, many would say he's too timid. He got out playing a poor shot it happens, the rest of top 6 did the same.

He's never going to be the biggest world beater with the attitude going round here, nor is he going to be when the rest of the batting unit barely performs.

Just at the age of 23 he had 8 ODI hundreds to his name, a 97* in a T20 and a 99 in Tests, along with a Champions Trophy medal scoring decently in a final vs Pakistan's fiercest rivals. That is very impressive early on his career. He's had a slight dip here and there, but too much is expected too soon.

Good post and well deserved POTW. I think some posters tend to forget the rich batting talent that was supposed to be the future of Pakistani batting. Speaking ofcourse of the Faisal Iqbals, Umar Akmals and Sohaib Maqsoods who were all supposed to be great batsmen yet achieved nothing. And still some posters have the audacity to criticize Babar who has not only already achieved more than all of them ever could in their mediocre careers but at 24 actually possess the ability to become one of the greats of the game.

Congratulations and a very good post. Even though i made that thread on which this post was written, i would say that i agree with parts of this post. The thread wasnt meant to be hateful at all but more of a constructive criticism of Babar's innings under pressure especially while chasing and how he could improve it.

Congratulations. I agree with the premise, let Babar Azam be himself, don't compare him with Kohli etc. He is just not good enough to match Kohli in LOI's. However, healthy criticism is necessary for young players, especially considering the subcontinent culture. Being an Indian cricket fan, i have seen countless examples of young players, coming from humble backgrounds, earn quick fame and money and fade away.

Ah thanks guys, just felt to post it as most of the comments were just riling me up when criticism wasn't warranted! I'm a mere observer and find myself typing up posts then deleting them, but that one I had to put through!

I really liked the particular post when read first time, very balanced ,hope you post regularly.Congrats!

Makes no sense what so ever. So because everyone is mediocre it’s okay he’s mediocre. However we should treat him as world class because he’s scored milestones against minnows and we should convert them as if they were scored against the top 6?

Babar is a okay batsman. He’s sxore well against the minnow nations and scoring soft runs. He like his fellows counterparts won’t come to the party against the big guys.

Pakistan is still in search of batsman and the search will forever continue until we have a batting culture change and players don’t play for personal land marks.

On a side note well done on getting the post of the weeks.
