An excellent post by Major highlighting the issues associated with COVID-19 treatment/vaccinations in Pakistan

http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/s...ronavirus-in-Pakistan&p=11137304#post11137304

So our Unis opened up and like all students i went to campus for the first week as i was amongest the students to show for class during week 1 and be online on week two.

Long story short, my teacher got Covid, I got covid, another friend of mine got Covid and another student i know also got Covid and is on ICU.

Now I always had my mask, never took it off. During this one day i started sneezing badly. i have allergies, but this was unusual as when i get consistent sneezes during 3-5 hours, I take an allergy pill and every thing becomes. The pill did not work.

By next day i had a very slight sore throat but by day 3 I was ok. I was having cramp feelings around my stomach area. I am losing my taste and smell. Infact, i had lost it, i knew i have covid now.

I got myself meds, doc gave me steroids, panadol and antibiotic. Took the meds and also took the covid saliva test for Rs. 5000.

I came out positive the next day but the meds made my condition better. I am 26 years old so everything would be alright.

4 days later I feel i am having pain in my chest. Now i am scared, this seems it is going into my lungs. By night time my lungs are hurting and I think this is it, i might have to get a ventilator and might die.

I rush to the hospital. I can't go to the nearest hospital as no freaken doctor will treat me as i am covid positive patient. I could to Kulsoom because its the best reputated hospital for covid in Pindi/Islamabad. I am from the middle class and know this gonna be expensive.

The emergency doctor gets an xray and i have pneumonia in my lungs. I get the test dosage and alright for the night, i come back home and my ER doctor asks me to visit the pulmonologist in the morning.

I arrive in the morning the Doc gives me all these medicines which are about to cost me 1 lakh and 10 thousand plus test that will cost Rs. 10 k.

Now here is the thing. I i get my meds, they are all drips. I decide I will go back to my locality and get the local doctor there to set up the IV drips. I cant get back to my town, go to the doctor and his attendant doesnt allow me to enter cause i have covid. He though i bought my own meds they wont set up the IV drip.

I go to the nearest Fouji Foundation, same thing. The nurse won't allow me to have my drips in their ER as i am covid patient. Than i had to go to check from relatives and they told me about reliance and CMH that allowed this. At CMH you need the senior docs permission and pay Rs.1000 detention. At reliance hopsital they charge Rs.1000 per hour for the drips.

I have to get my drips twice, one in the morning and the second at night.

I am 26 years old and this is the ordeal i have to face. After our fees were paid, the govt decided to convert the UNI back to online classes.

What really makes me angry is that any health care worker can get the Covid vaccine for free currently, and yet they won't treat you, see the hypocrisy?

And than there are also the fraudias. My friend and his family are rich, they got themselves vaccinated by showing themselves as Health Care workers, when they are not. My friend is gullable he had no idea his father used resources for the vaccine, he thinks everyone could get it. He's 22 years old and he has been vaccinated before anyone, and he is an accounting student.

This is the situation I had to face. 26 years old and thats the cost. Older people have it worst

Very unfortunate to read. State of healthcare in Pakistan is dire. Hope Major has recovered his health.

I'm not a medical doctor and am only basing this on Covid sufferers I know in the UK and Pakistan but there seems to be a real difference in treatment styles.

In the UK unless you are unable to get out of bed or have extreme breathing difficulties you are given no medication and are told to isolate. No medication is given and the advice is to not just protect yourself and others through isolation but to protect the NHS too. I've had many close ones with covid and they suffered, but they are at home unless things get bad.

In Pakistan they seem to want to pump you with meds from day 1 and proscribe anti-biotics etc straight away.

I'm not sure about Majors situation ( he is a serial complainer) although I genuinely hope he is ok. In a country where health care provision is already thin, we have a guy walking around the country asking for treatment, when in reality had he experienced those symptoms in the UK ( and been able to walk and speak) he would have been told to rest at home. Despite his alleged pnemenoia and Covid he seemed able to run around a city of 15 million people.

Now this isn't necessarily having a pop at Major, its just some differences I have witnessed in approach to the pandemic ( self diagnosis and isolation vs medication).

Thanks for the award, really appreciate it.

For me, it was a true eye opener of what was going on.

Old people are suffering the most, and not every hospital or health care worker will look after covid patients even though they will get the vaccine

Still recovering, taking IV Drips till monday. My lungs will be very weak now for the next 6 months probably

You probably missed the whole post.

Initially, when i was diagnosed with Covid, I did self isolated myself in my room. Infact, everyone in Pakistan self isolates, no one wants to go to docs just to pay bills.

My condition detrioriated as I started to develop chest pains, and reading on the net i learned this could be serious symptom. Yet, thinking it will go over i delayed and only at night I rushed to the ER.

My alleged pneumonia and alleged Covid came with its test and medicines which i have trouble affording :)

As for running around the city, like i said, no hospital or doctor is treating covid patients here. There are few.

I only went to the ER after developing chest pains. And you are pumped with meds after lung CT scans show pneumonia. These medecines are not affordable for the general public

Yes my apologies. On rereading my post it appears critical of you which isnt my intention at all.

I was reflecting on the two treatment styles which in the UK ( from my.own experience) has been to stay at home unless you cannot move or breathe.

In Pakistan (again only through anecdotal evidence) I have seen medicines proscribed very fast and there seems to be a general culture of not expecting to be cured unless you are pumped with meds.

This was just a general point and not meant to have a go at you so. I hope you are better mate.

no worries, i think we can better understand with information that is provided.

In Pakistan, they are doing symptoms treatment. For covid related Pneumonia what doctors are using is a drug called Rivona, its a Remdesivir drug.

Problem here is alot of docs wont cater to you as they will say go to the hospital we won't treat you without even providing any guidance or help.

People are going to hospital but mostly that i have seen were only those patients that had already developed lung problems and majority are the upper 50+ people.

Unfortunate that you had to go through this.

I am kicking myself for going to a brunch with a few classmates yesterday. I haven't been meeting people at all but I got lured by the "small gathering" and "secure bubble" portrayal by the organizers. Only during the brunch did I get to know that the people I was sitting next to had been traveling and throwing parties. One guy had just came back from a trip the very same morning.

I hope I don't contract Covid.

I hope you are doing better man, may Allah give you shifah. Eye opening post.

My college friend fell into a similar trap last year. Someone invited him to a house gathering and said there will only be 5 people and they’ll just play cards. He goes and next thing you know an hour later the place is jam packed with 30-40 people and it’s a full blown house party now. He got COVID after a day, before that he had been isolating like crazy but got desperate for social interaction I guess. But it was just a high fever for him for a couple of days like the flu.

Wishing you a quick and complete recovery. When you are healed, you should add regular exercise to your schedule to strengthen your pulmonary system.

Major, hope you're fine now. I had flu like symptoms for 2 days about week back. I isolated immediately and recovered in 2-3 days. But there's one annoying thing that's been bothering me ever since.

I lost my appetite during the convalescent period, which is not that surprising. But I have been having altered taste and smell which just throws off my appetite, particularly when I eat meat. I'm someone who enjoys all kinds of meat, so I don't know if this is God's sinister method of converting me into a vegetarian but whenever I eat meat, I start feeling nauseous. Have you regained your sense of smell and taste? What have your experiences been like..

Major I hope you recover fast dear.

Older people do have it worst. Take extreme care. I am not a doctor but have seen various cases from freidns and family to know that you need to start arranging for oxygen and prepare for a ventilator (I hope to GOD you don't have to).
pls get med insured as soon as you recover.

Thank you for the well wishes guys

Yes, older people have it much worse.
MY pneumonia was covered under the IV drips, so din't need vent or oxygen. Though, when the covid entered my lungs it did scared me a bit that i would have to get ventilator.

Yeh, my lungs have become very weak.

This makes you think whether PSL players should be suing PCB. As Covid does have a toll on your health.
