I am interested to know the story behind Pravin Tambe. I was at cricinfo where i saw his profile and there are no First Class or List A matches but he played in IPL this year he is almost 42 years old now.

He got 4 wickets in his first match in CLT20 yesterday that's why he was in popular keywords at cricinfo.

there have been some players who played in the ipl without playing fc & la matches. paul valthaty & kamran khan being 2 more such players

Are they 40+ too?

Actually he was picked by dravid from club circuit. He was a rookie player for local clubs but Dravid was impressed of his leg spin.

Actually Valthaty was selected in India's under19 squad for 2002 world cup but an injury to eye halted his career and Shane Warne had high hopes from Kamran.

Just goes to show you talent is everywhere in the subcontinent, just a matter of finding it and grooming it. Watch his post match interview at champions league website he seemed ver timid, and scared. Maybe it was the occasion but seems like a nice guy.

But where is Kamran Khan now? I was hoping he develop into a good bowler for UP, but never got into the UP Ranji team. Last I saw he was playing FC in SL!!!!

If I'm not wrong franchisee's are allowed to scout players from a region allocated by BCCI. So off-season they go hunting for local talents, there are signings out of auction as well.

Rajistan always signs unknown players....... They even went on to sign Atul sharma.....

Valthaty played for KingsXI Punjab

before playing for kings xi punjab, he played for rajasthan royals in 2009. also he played in the u-19 wc 2002

Is it possible for Club Level Cricketers to perform against International Level players ?

If this guy was a rare talent then at the very least he could have played some FC or LA matches, looks like a One off thing.

he was reported for chucking which killed his career sadly

Just opened cricinfo and noticed this 42 year old guy did it again for his team.

His figures in last 4 T20 games:

3/10
1/17
2/17
4/15

I didn't knew he has not played any FC or LA Games! That is very surprising indeed, what a find indeed by the RR!

just shows how much nepotism exists in indian cricket and performers like pravin tambe dont get a chance in ranji but some players like arjun yadav, anirudh srikanth get chances after chances due to nepotism

another case being rohit sharmas repeated selection in the indian team with proven performers like cheteshwar pujara not being given chances in odis

Very Impressive for a rookie. I wonder how many Tambes in India languish in an unknown corner every year. He may be a flash in the pan, but if a bowler can pick up a 4 wkt haul at a fairly high level of competition, then he should have been given a chance at a much younger age. May be he just did not prefer to play at a young age, for some reason? ( like academics, health etc)

you may see me too there after couple of years.. hoping for the best.. lol..

Loving the Pravin Tambe story and also the way Rajasthan have given him a chance.

He was basically just an amateur cricketer playing in Mumbai and in England, and then turned up to one of the Rajasthan trials where Dravid liked what he saw. And the rest is history.

I shoulld work hard on my googlies man, i can still make it. :nehra

It's not easy to hit Tambe. He is so much suited for T20s. What a story and change of fortunes!
