Wanted to make a fun thread on what status do you think current and new players will achieve in the next 10 years.

The metric I'm using is as follows

1) ATG
2) Country Great Ex: Pakistani great, aussie great, Indian great etc
3) Underrated Talent
4) Underachieved
5) Failed Cricketer
6) Forgotten player (aka random names on a score card.

To give an example

New Zealand: Tim Robinson, Rachin Ravindra.

Where do i think theyll end up?

Rachin = Country Great
Tim Robinson = Underrated Talent

Australia : Jake Fraser

Where do i think tthey'll end up?

Jake Fraser: ATG

England: Butler (current player)

Where do i think they'll end up?

Butler: ATG

Pakistan : Babar, Rizwan, Fakhar, Chacha, Shadab, Saud, Abdullah, Imam, Usman Khan, Azam Khan

Fakhar: Underachieved/ Underrated Talent (He falls in this Spectrum)

Chacha: Failed Cricketer

Imam: Underachieved (He wasn't too bad but he isn't anything special, Shouldn't have ever represented pakistan)

Usman Khan: Forgotten Cricketer (I don't think he'll be remembered even, such is PCB)

Saud Shakeel: I want to say Pakistani great, but i have a feeling he'll become an underrated talent because PCB will mess up.

Abdullah: No clue atm, Idk.

Azam Khan: Faiked Cricketer (He won't be forgotten due to moin Khan fame)

Babar and rizwan: #&@^#^^#^@^@^@&@^@

Some very interesting prospects that I have a keen eye on is

1) Jaiswal
2) Jake fraser
3) Abhisheik
4) Rinku Singh

These 4 are defo newbies that will become ATG's in the next 10-15 years

I will go for Indian players

Jaiswal ,Bumrah Atg

Shami,Kuldeep country great

Sai Sudharshan definitely country great. I will hope him for Atg

Gill may score odi centuries record holder but will be interesting case to see if he can fix technical fixes

Rinku t20 country great

I think you need a level called Solid contributor. You can't go from Country Great - say someone like Shami in the Indian team straight to Underrated or Underachieved. There'll be a whole bunch of players. In the Indian context - Surya, Jadeja who made the best of what they had and chipped in to help the big guys achieve stuff.

Use any metric you like, you can create your own as well

Yeah let's take India's world cup winning team

Bumrah, Kohli, Rohit - All time greats
Pant, Hardik, Kuldeep - Country greats
Surya, Jadeja, Axar - Solid contributors
Arshdeep, Siraj - Squad fillers
Dube - Forgotten player

Jaiswal I would at least expect country great. Hopefully can ascend to all time status.

Sanju I expect will underachieve

Everything is so volatile in Pak cricket that it is very difficult to make predictions.
Still if I have to pick I'll go with Abdullah and Abrar as cricketers who'll achieve big in all three formats.
I really do believe in test class cricketers

Saud Shakeel - Asian track bully
Babar Azam - Underachiever
Rizwan - ATG Pak wicket keeper
Saim Ayub - Not sure
Imam - Nepo kid ofcourse
Sharjeel - Legends league ATG

Can I add another metric...

Getting thrown out of an all you can eat buffet for eating too much

Azam Khan and Sharjeel Khan

From India, Gill, Jaiswal and Sudarshan all have talents to be ATG.
Pant would be ATG is tests.
Siraj will be a country great like Zaheer.
Kuldeep also has a bright future.
Rahul will be a massive underachiever.
Pritwi Shaw will be forgetten one.
Washington Sundar will remain effective but highly underated 👍🏻

I expect these players to do well in the next 10 years:

Australia - Jake Fraser
India - Rinku, Gill, Abhishek
Pakistan - Saim (maybe?), Saud Shakeel, Abdullah Shafeeqe
Sri Lanka - Pathirana
Afghanistan - Noor Ahmed, Nangeyalia Kharote
Bangladesh - Rishad Hossain
New Zealand - Rachin
England - Brook, Pope, Crawley
Windies - Shamar Joseph
South Africa - Brevis
Zimbabwe - Wesley Madhevere, Brian Bennett.

1. Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen - Failed cricketers who destroyed the team for personal power
2. Shadab Khan - Failed cricketer who lost us so many matches before we were able to finally get rid of him
3. Iftikhar Ahmed - Failed cricketer who single handedly lost us so many important moments and matches
4. Azam Khan - Why was he in the team again?

India will win one or 2 more ICC events.
Babar and rizwan will be retired along with fakhar as well.

Pakistan : Babar, Rizwan, Fakhar, Chacha, Shadab, Saud, Abdullah, Imam, Usman Khan, Azam Khan

Fakhar: Underachieved/ Underrated Talent (He falls in this Spectrum)

Chacha: Failed Cricketer

Imam: Underachieved (He wasn't too bad but he isn't anything special, Shouldn't have ever represented pakistan)

Abdullah: No clue atm, Idk.

Azam Khan: Faiked Cricketer (He won't be forgotten due to moin Khan fame)

Babar and rizwan: #&@^#^^#^@^@^@&@^@
Saud Shakeel will likely go the Haris Sohail way.

I expect many mainstream players to retire early for franchise cricket (sadly).

I also expect T10 format to boom. I hope not.

Saim Ayub will establish himself as an opener (HOPEFULLY)

Iftikhar would still be 33-34 years old and playing as a finisher.

India will win one or 2 more ICC events.
Babar and rizwan will be retired along with fakhar as well.
Fakhar is the best batsman from Pakistan..

One player that can win a match on his own against anyone. Need more of such players to win trophies instead of stat padders

Atg - pant bumrah kohli jaiswal jadeja ashwin
Country great : shami mayank
Underrated : sundar

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Babar Azam in Test = ATG

Saim Ayub, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan (all formats) = Overrated

Saud Shakeel and Naseem Shah (ODI+Test) = Underrated

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Babar Azam in Test = ATG

Shaheen's case is still open but I think we can shut the book on Babar ever being an alltime great in Tests.

For me honestly to be considered an all-time great in your field, you should have a fair claim to be included in the Top 25-30 players in the field - whether it's batting, bowling, keeping, allrounder etc.

In batting it shouldn't be just volume of runs (though of course that matters). Off the top of my head, it's a combination of runs, average, home and away averages, strike rates (adjusted for average at the time the person played), performance against the top teams of the time.

Babar is nearly 30. I think we can safely say he's past the halfway mark of his career. Runs are okay at 4000 which will allow him to eventually reach the top 50 at say 8 to 9k total runs. Average is not great. Won't get him into the top 50. Everything else is weak. There's almost no chance he'll ever reach the level of top 25 in the field to be considered an All-time great.

Pakistan great. Now there he has a case. If you take the top 10 Pakistani test batters of all time, I think he has a fair shout to end up in there.
