India’s Test series against England is set to start on August 4 in Nottingham. The rivalry often produces some sparkling cricket, although it’s the home team that has often won in recent times. That could change though, given India’s strength this time around.

Virat Kohli

The Indian captain goes past some record or the other every time he bats, and there are plenty of milestones for him to cross this tour as well. Kohli is on 7547 runs currently in Test cricket, and is 453 runs away from 8000 mark. India will hope he breaches that in these five Tests.

Kohli is on 70 centuries in international cricket, and has been there for quite a while. His last Test century was against Bangladesh in 2019. Kohli has a chance to go past Ricky Ponting’s tally of 70 centuries and become the second highest in the list behind Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli has 1742 runs against England in 23 Tests. Another 258 runs will take him to 2000 runs, and past Rahul Dravid’s tally of 1950 against the opponent.

Tendulkar and Dravid have made seven centuries each against England. Kohli has five, and if he makes three more, will go past the legendary duo.

Kohli also has 90 catches in Tests, and has a chance of scoring a century there.

Ajinkya Rahane

The Indian vice-captain has 4647 runs in Tests from 74 matches. The 5000 mark is just 353 runs away.

Rahane has 96 catches in Tests. A century is there for the taking.

Rohit Sharma has 2679 runs in Tests, 321 away from 3000.

Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah has 83 Test wickets with a shot at 100 not too far away. He could become the fastest Indian pacer to reach the milestone. Bumrah has played 20 Tests, while the record is held by Kapil Dev (25 Tests).

R Ashwin needs 12 wickets to become the first Indian with 100 wickets against England.

Ravindra Jadeja is 15 away from 2000 Test runs.

Mohammed Shami is 16 away 200 Test wickets.

Joe Root is 286 away from 9000 Test runs

Stuart Broad is 2 away from 150 Tests.

Don't be fooled by the month of the series. There are going to be no turners or dry pitches, the wickets will be seaming and green. Mark my words.

India would have to bat out of its skin to win the series because seaming wickets are by far the biggest weakness for Indian batsmen.

3 - 1-1 in England's favour. 1 draw. 1 win for india. I would be happy anything india can win.

The pitch for the first Test which begins on 4th August

Ind to win the series easily. The English test team is mess, with a weak top order and the lower middle no longer the saver of the day. An old bowling lineup that easily got out bowled by NZ.

Eng raises their test game against india historically in home series.

I feel England will have an advantage - I will go for 2-1 to the home-side.

Frankly, who cares?

The World Test Champions have toured England and beaten both them and India, and now gone home.

But this England v India series is literally pointless now. It’s just an anticlimax between two deteriorating teams.

More interesting is that Cricket Australia is considering replacing The Ashes with a series against New Zealand if the England players object to the Covid Rules. I never thought I’d see the day that it became a viable option to replace The Ashes with a series against NZ!

I think India start off as favorites because England have been ordinary in Test format lately.

You care about the next WTC champions nah? Or are Blackcaps the first and last WTc champion.
You throw more tantrums than Shoaib Akhtar, should start a youtube channel.

Suddenly India looking like taking this 0-5!

Hahahah highly doubtful. India have been terrific but a lot of England players haven't played cricket for a while and England infamously lose the first test of the series. Barring weather I think it'll be 4-1, or weather plays a part and who knows.

As I stated a couple of weeks ago, this England team is there for the taking. India's bowling is simply too good, which more than makes up for the brittle middle order.

India should have been 2-0. Weather costed us the 1st test

Looks like India's to win - England dont look capable of challenging India in current form

I now think India will win 0-3 with their spinners at Oval and OT.

I cannot see this England side winning a match. The lower order runs that were key to victory in 2018 are not coming.

Giving up so soon already? HINT:It is not the spinners that did the damage at Lords and the curators will be wary of creating a green top as England batters barring Joe Root are hopeless so far in this series.England crowd made a mistake by abusing them like aussies and the rest was history...

So after 1975 ODI cup won by WI, no team should have cared for NEXT COMING WCs.

There is still chance of England 3 - 1 India just like 2014... just saying ..

People don't realise how tough it is to beat England in its own home patch in a full series. England are not the greatest travellers but even when they have average to above average teams, they have managed to stay undefeated in a series because their conditions are so different from others and almost all their players in County championship are prototypes of the type of players you want in English conditions that it's hard to defeat them in their own conditions. It is also their bane in the sense that all their players are of a similar mould of players you want in English conditions but would struggle in say Australian or subcontinent conditions. It's why they have struggled in Australia and in India recently but that doesn't matter in home conditions. The last time I remember them losing a series while playing a full strength or a near full strength team was against Sri Lanka and that was just a 2 match series if I remember correctly.

I thought the Australians were better on the whole but still they could only draw the Ashes in 2019 while Anderson was missing the series. And Anderson is a lot more crucial to England's setup than Stokes, as good as Stokes is. Stokes had a very average series vs India in 2018 but still England managed to beat India 4-1 with Sam Curran alone firing on all cylinders along with the likes of Anderson, Woakes and Broad. They could debut Jamie Porter in the series for all I care and he still could pick wickets vs India in the test series and I think Ollie Robinson is going to have a good series this summer. The only way I see England struggling is if the wickets are flat or even dry like the Edgbaston wicket for the Ashes opener in 2019. But knowing what BCCI did to qualify for the WTC, I see ECB repeating the favour to us and can see damp greenish wickets for us and in that case, India is going to have a very hard time as none of their batsmen can bat against the seaming ball except Kohli to an extent.

Good prediction - he is leading wicket taker in the series.

I doubt it. The September wickets will be drier and there will be less seam for the Indians to cope with and more spin.

Chris silverwoods job is on the line. England test team has regressed under his leadership .
