Australia won the ODI series 2-1 and India won the T20 series 2-1. Its quiet even stevens so far in the tournament.

So who will take the test series and what is your prediction? Can India repeat its performance of 2018 and win the test series again? Or Australia has this one in the bag?

3-1 Australia

Big chances of a 2-1 too (for Australia) and if that happens, I'll consider this a good tour. :)

Interesting no one is giving chance to India. We are defending champion of Border-Gavaskar trophy, remember?

Interesting no one is giving chance to India. We are defending champion of Border-Gavaskar trophy, remember?

That doesn't matter really. Australia were also the holders when they visited India in 2017 but no-one gave them a chance as it was against a rampaging Indian team on home soil. But still they completed pretty well and that's what I want from this Indian team too as Aussies are back to full strength.

No meek surrenders like the 2011/12.

I have finally learned the art of keeping the expectation zero as far as our away tours are concerned. In white ball cricket we can beat any team anywhere, in test we are perhaps not there yet.

3-0 India if not a clean sweep.

Expect big from Bumrah, Shami, Ashwin, & Pujara. Also, expect one of the few young batsmen to leave a mark. Kohli will do well in the one test that he'll play.

If India have their main players, I'd say 2-2. Otherwise, given the abusive home advantage that Australia possesses, they will leave no sympathy in crushing India in any way they can, both verbally and physically.

I back India to win the first test match though, Cummins and Starc are out of form which is why they were given a break. Hazlewood will ask questions though.

It also depends on their team combination. Do they play Ashwin or Jadeja? Who will keep wickets and bat down the order? Are they conditioned enough to play the short ball?

4-0 australia.India stand no chance against full strength Australian side. They will beat them very badly.India nu rwana ae.

Australia haven't also played a test match in a while, so in terms of adequate practice, both teams will be on a similar path.

However, if I'm not mistaken, Australia had their first class tournament, so the likes of Smith, Labuschagne, etc. should have become accustomed to it, whereas Indian players only have the experience of IPL in recent times.

One thing India should take away from the abysmal Pakistan tour to Australia is the fact that there is no need of a frontline spinner, they will get thrashed by Warner, Smith, Labuschagne, etc. Jadeja should play if he is fit, and they should try a 4 man pace attack.

If I were making the Indian Team, I'd make it like this -

Mayank Agarwal
KL Rahul (at least until Rohit Sharma is fit enough to play)
Cheteshwar Pujara
Virat Kohli (when he leaves, I'd bring in Shubman Gill)
Ajinkya Rahane
Rishabh Pant
Ravindra Jadeja
Umesh Yadav
Mohammad Shami
Jasprit Bumrah
(Another Pacer)

No Ishant. Bumrah out of form. No Kohli after a couple (?) of games. Opening position still not sorted. Pujara and Rahane on the wrong side of 30s. Whatever happened to Pant and how is Saha back in the team. Also, Australia in red hot form on their absolutely flat roads.

4-0 to Australia. Complete domination.

If India manage to be even barely competitive (don't lose 2 or more tests by an innings), I will be pleasantly surprised.

If India manage to draw even a single a test, I will be shocked.

All other scenarios are impossible.

It would be massive accomplishment for india if they won single test in this series.
M6 predictions 3-0 or 4-0 to Australia

‘First time I will face him in long-form cricket’: Steve Smith admits he needs to be ‘watchful’ against ‘quality’ India pacer in Ishant Sharma’s absence

Australia batsman Steve Smith feels India will miss the services of Ishant Sharma, whose absence he believes will be felt by India given the experience he brings to the table. However, Smith is not taking India’s bowling attack lightly, which he calls one of the best in the world. The former Australia captain, who missed the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India won 2-1 in Australia, due to his ban, is eager to come up against India’s formidable bowling attack, which comprises the in-form pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.

In Ishant Sharma’s absence, a couple of youngsters – Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini – will be keen to make a mark as the third seam-bowling option. However, the one bowler Smith cannot wait to square up against is Bumrah, who since his Test debut in January of 2018 has become a revelation for the Indian cricket team. Bumrah claimed 21 wickets from four Tests down under in 2018/19, including best of 6/33 and Smith is aware of the threat the 27-year-old possesses.

“I don’t know if I will do anything specific but yeah (this will be the) first time I will have (to) face him in long-form cricket. But I think his skill-sets won’t probably change too much. We know how he bowls. He has got a good pace. He has got that awkward action, very different to a lot of people,” Smith told reports about Bumrah.

“You got to be pretty watchful all the time and he is a quality bowler. I am excited at coming up against him in this series. You like coming up against the best and he is certainly up there with them.”

Besides Bumrah, Smith has faced the likes of Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav before in Tests, and is banking on his experience of tackling them. Smith admits that Ishant’s absence will be a loss for India.

“They are a good line-up. Pretty experienced. Shami has played a lot of cricket, Bumrah has played a reasonable amount of cricket. He is a quality bowler. Whichever spinner they use, (Ravichandran) Ashwin or (Ravindra) Jadeja or Kuldeep (Yadav), I am not sure - we’ll wait and see, but they’ve all played a fair bit of cricket now,” said Smith.

“Their third quick hasn’t played as much cricket whoever they go with there. They are all good bowlers and yeah, we are going to be at our best as a batting group. This summer, we are going to beat them. Ishant Sharma is probably a big loss for them. He has obviously played a lot of cricket now and he is a good bowler. So yeah, maybe without him, their bowling attack may not be their strongest. I am sure they would have loved him to play.”

Last time, India fielded a settled and good attack which was relentless. Ishant was a big portion of that.

Kohli won't be playing the entire series.

Smith and Warner are back.

Aus should be disappointed to not win it 3-0. I don't think Indian bowling will be very effective even if 1-2 bowlers bowl well.

Australia 2-1 but only just. The loss of kohli for a couple of tests will be main reason for series loss. I think india will be competative like they have been for most series in Aus for last 15 years.

4-0 Aus. The closest will be the day night test where our bowlers should be able to do some damage and make a match out of it but nothing otherwise. Expecting a meek surrender like in NZ

I give Australia 4-0. Labuschagne or Cameron Green could be the MoS.

It'll be great for India if they can manage to even draw one match in the series.

The performance that India put up in the practice game was quite good, but that was the Australian C team at best.

I'd give India a little chance and say 3-1 Australia. I think India will win the first test match but Kohli's absence will prove to be too much to cover up for the team.

India have the best chance of winning the first match. No Warner, Burns in horrible form, Pucovski and Green both concussion doubts.

After that though, when Australia return to full strength and Kohli leaving, Australia will dominate. Warner-Smith-Labuschagne, supported by Green, Wade etc, will be too good for India. Rohit and Ishant don't even return until the 3rd Test I think

Ishant isn't joining the tour. He is ruled out. Rohit might play the third and fourth tests. That is not a certainty either.

Speculations have been rife as to who will lead India in regular skipper Virat Kohli’s absence and bat at his preferred No 4 spot. Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar feels Ajinkya Rahane would lead the side in Kohli’s absence and he would be the one who would also play at No 4.

“Virat’s obviously there only for the first Test then you’d expect Rahane to take over (as captain) but they (India) have to find someone to bat at No.4. Who do you expect to take that No.4 spot?” – Ponting asked Gavaskar during the discussion on 7 Cricket.

“It looks to me it could be KL Rahul. Or no, actually I think Rahane will go at No.4 once Virat goes away,” Gavaskar responded.

Adding further, Gavaskar reckoned KL Rahul or young Shubman Gill would bat after Rahane.

“Then you might have Rahul bat at No.5 or Shubman Gill,” the former India captain added.

Kohli would return to India after the first Test at Adelaide – which would be played with a pink ball and under lights.

Following a dream IPL, KXIP skipper KL Rahul was picked for the Test squad and if he gets to make the cut in the XI, it would be his first appearance since August last year.

On the other hand, young Gill would be hoping for a Test debut in whites.

With Kohli being one of the key players in the side, India is bound to miss his services in the upcoming four-match Test series.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - India’s Shubman Gill pushed his claims to make his debut in the opening test against Australia in Adelaide with a classy 65 in the warmup match as the touring side’s batsmen made merry against their injury-hit opponents on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Gill, who has played three one-day internationals, looked solid during his 78-ball knock at number three to build on the 43 he scored against Australia A in the day-night tune-up before Thursday’s first test.

Gill, who opened for India last week in the Canberra one-dayer, could replace Prithvi Shaw, who fell to a rash shot for three after making 40 in the first innings.

Regular India opener Mayank Agarwal also spent time in the middle during his knock of 61 while Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant made unbeaten centuries.

After Australia all-rounder and test hopeful Cameron Green was ruled out due to concussion on Friday, the local side also lost seamer Sean Abbott to injury as India moved on to 386 for four, extending their lead to 472 in the three-day match.

Vihari accumulated his runs patiently at number four, a position which will be vacant after Adelaide when India captain Virat Kohli flies home for the birth of his child, to remain unbeaten on 104.

Pant provided the fireworks with his unbeaten 103, which was studded with nine fours and six sixes under the lights at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The diminutive batsmen was on 81 in the final over of the day but smashed four fours and a six off the last five deliveries to complete his hundred in 73 balls and put his name in the mix for the wicketkeeper’s spot in the test side.

Australia should win by a comfortable margin. 3-0 or 2-1 is likely.

Lot has changed in the last one year. I predict a pretty straightforward Aussie victory, 3-0 looks like a safe bet. Indian series win is beyond my imagination at this point, but if we ensure the series is alive in Gabba I will be overjoyed.

2-2 drawn series. India will probably take a 2-1 lead before losing the last match.

This is going to be a very competitive series despite the absence of Virat Kohli after the 1st Test and Ishant Sharma throughout the series. My prediction for this series would be 2 - 1 in favour of Australia. In 2018/19 when India won in Australia Pujara and Bumrah were absolutely sensational with the bat and ball respectively. Both of them produced once in a lifetime performances. Somebody has to repeat these kind of performances again. The absence of Smith and Warner affected Australia massively in 2018/19. The dressing room was affected by negativity and media criticism. But since the time Smith and Warner are back this team is back on the right track. Australia performed extremely well in WC 19 by reaching the Semi Finals. Drawing the Ashes in England and retaining the Ashes was a huge achievement for this team. Australia completely bulldozed New Zealand and Pakistan in Australia. Now with Smith, Labuschagne and Warner this is a serious batting unit. The bowling attack of both teams are almost equal. The last time Sharma, Shami and Bumrah bowled much better than Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins. Ishant Sharma's absence is a huge disadvantage for India as he was bowling exceptionally well since the last 2 years. Virat Kohli's absence is a massive dent for India in the batting department along with captaincy as he has the kind of presence to uplift the team's morale. Ajinkya Rahane has to take responsibility as the leader of the team and also as a batsman as his form has been very disappointing since the last 3 years. Pujara, Rahul, Gill, Agarwal, Vihari and Pant/Saha all have to bat together as a unit to put huge totals on board. The scoreboard pressure is a massive advantage in test match cricket especially in Australian conditions. This sounds like a mouth watering contest.

I’m backing India. I’d actually like to change my previous 3-0 Australia prediction to 3-1 Australia.

I think India will win one of them, the remaining 3 will be closely fought.

The Indian cricket team will head into the first day-night Test against Australia with a lot of optimism and happy selection dilemmas, having managed to tick most of the boxes before drawing the three-day pink-ball dress rehearsal against Australia A here on Sunday.

Australia A gave a better account of themselves on an eased out third day track, despite being reduced to 25 for 3, ending on 305 for 4 riding on Ben McDermott and Jack Wildermuth’s centuries. Both the batsmen survived a barrage of bouncers under lights from Indian pacers.

The talented McDermott (107 off 167 balls), younger son of Craig McDermott who was India’s tormentor during the forgettable 91-92 series, along with his skipper Alex Carey (58, 111 balls) added 117 runs in a counter-attacking fourth wicket partnership to partially save the game.

The four-Test series gets underway from December 17 in Adelaide.

Rookie Wildermuth (111 off 119 balls) also got his ton and added 165 runs with McDermott but Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, watching the proceedings from the dug-out, will be happy with multiple options that emerged from the game.

In the first hour itself, the probable first Test opening pair of Joe Burns (1) and Marcus Harris (5) was sent back by Mohammed Shami (2/58 in 13 overs).

While out-of-form Burns shuffled across to a straight delivery and was caught plumb in front, Harris was set up nicely with a leg-slip and his flick landed into Prithvi Shaw’s hands stationed for that particular shot.

The lack of runs from the two openers will certainly increase the Australian team’s worries.

Shubman Gill’s composure and technique opening the innings wouldn’t have gone unnoticed compared to Shaw’s loose batting during his two knocks in the game.

There is a lot of time at Gill’s disposal and the upright stance with an ability to get his body behind the line of the ball like any top international batsman does, gives his team a lot of hope going into the series.

Similarly, Hanuma Vihari strongly kept himself in the hunt with a hundred that again reflected his patient approach. With his handy off-breaks, one such delivery got rid of Carey, he can be a good option for the sixth specialist batsman’s spot in the side.

But then there is an extremely stylish KL Rahul, who has been sweating it out at the nets under the watchful eyes of his skipper.

Rahul gives multiple options both as an opener and a middle-order batsman.

The fact that he has experience of 36 Test matches won’t be lost on the decision-makers when they sit back and pick the playing XI for the Adelaide opener.

If the day/night warm-up game is any indicator, then Rishabh Pant, after his 73-ball hundred, is the primary contender for donning the big gloves.

The selection will be purely on Pant’s ability to turn the game around in a session with his batting, which unfortunately his senior and more accomplished keeper Wriddhiman Saha is not really capable of.

As far as bowling is concerned, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin look all set to start the Test match.

While Umesh and Ashwin were not played in the second warm-up game. It was more about checking the other pacers and letting Bumrah and Shami add miles to their legs.

On the third day, both bowled 13 overs each respectively and rightly conserved their energies for the big battle allowing back-up pacers Navdeep Saini (0/87 in 16 overs) and Mohammed Siraj (1/54 in 17 overs) bowl longer spells without much success.

McDermott looked a stylish player with some attractive drives on the off-side and Wildermuth under lights negotiated the short ball well enough, picking up a few runs in the process.

After seeing that dreadful batting performance, I think Australia will win the series 4-0.

Rohit should replace superstar Shaw, Pant comes in for Saha, Rahul for Kohli, Saini for Shami.

First match would have shattered the morale of Indian. However, they should try to uplift themselves in an effort to compete well. They have been a pretty good side in the last decade and that doesnt happen if you cant lift yourself up after a defeat so their management and fans would atleast be expecting competitive performances in upcoming matches.

So it wont be 4-0 from here. I think India would struggle in Brisbane but give a fight in Sydney. Would you concur?

Australia on the backfoot - India can go for the jugular now.

Warner could be important balance changer but not sure what form he's in at the moment.

Should be 2-1 Aussies. Now India are missing 5 key players however I still believe in this brilliant team. They are capable as long as the bowling remains injury free even with the new faces. All are hungry and want to prove their worth.

You are the one getting humiliated here with these stupid predictions.
Or maybe you have learnt from your experience of getting belted in australia. I can understand innings defeats are traumatic. haha.

So happy to be proved wrong. Congrats to those who got their prediction right, so tough in this case. Truly a miracle series.

Didn't expect from you bro :facepalm

Have more confidence in our team from next time :ksi we are slowly reaching *there*

More than 65% of wickets in the last 5+ years in india, have been taken by Indian pacers. Indian fast bowlers, ishant, yadav, shami and bhuvi, all average less than 26 in india in last 5 years. (Bumrah hsnt played any matches at home). So how exactly is the pitches doctored?

Even Tyron had given up at one point :inti

I am guessing that it is utter frustration over one's own team's utter mediocrity that results in a desperate need to see another team losing badly.

I'm wearing beggar's rags, but I want that other guy to have his clothes torn too.
