ISLAMABAD: Former Finance Minister Asad Umar, before joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was the head of the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) funded Punjab Skill Development Fund (PSDF) between 2009 and 2012 during the tenure of the Shahbaz Sharif government.

Shafqat Mahmood, now Federal Education & Professional Training and National History and Literary Heritage Division, was a key DFID aide for Punjab for four years from 2007 to 2012 during the same tenure, record shows.

He was a key adviser for the whole DFID programme in Punjab. When Shahbaz Sharif, as the chief minister, visited Britain for meetings with DFID, he accompanied him, according to the official record.

The PSDF is the largest skills development fund in Pakistan. It was established in 2010 as a not-for-profit company set up under the Companies Ordinance 1984 by the Punjab government in collaboration with DFID. It also exclusively manages the skills training funding of the World Bank.

During the tenure of the previous government, DFID allocated huge funds to Punjab. No complaint ever arose from the DFID about their proper utilization. In a series of tweets, Shafqat Mahmood attacked Shahbaz Sharif in the context of allegations contained in a story published by British tabloid, Daily Mail.

“Incidentally the journalist who wrote the story, David Rose, stands by it. DFID comment was the same that he had already published. More challenge for PML-N spin masters. Why don’t you sue? PML-N propaganda team arguing that daily Mail story is not true and quote DFID comments on one aspect of the story. The remedy is simple folks. Sue the daily mail and claim damages. You won’t though for fear of losing and penalties.”

Another post said that British newspapers do not publish anything until they have triple checked. “Unlike in other places they fear being sued. The Sharifs won’t sue daily mail because they know they will lose and the penalties would be in millions of pounds.”

Responding to a tweet, the minister wrote: Do u seriously believe that I do not know what a tabloid is Ma’am? Instead of telling me how bad the messenger is, why not tell the Sharifs to challenge the message and in a court of law. This question all apologists for the Sharifs, and I am not saying u r one of them, ignore. The tweet by a journalist had stated: Sir with all due respect: have you ever heard of the Daily Mail or what a tabloid is? Recent successful lawsuits against the paper by First Lady Melanie Trump, JK Rowling, Elton John and many others...”

Khasyaani billi khamba noche :))

These funds were given to government of Punjab, not Asad or Shafqat. How are they responsible? And The DM specifically talks about embezzlement of ERRA funds so what did either of these have to do with ERRA?

Shafqat Mehmood knows very well wrt What Truth is. He is just doing boot polishing and looking very silly.

Just because of the fact that Establishment installed Shehzad Akbar in current regime and they are behind this tabloid yellow journalism hence Shafqat Mehmood is shamelessly defending Daily Mail even at the expense of his own self respect, prestige and dignity. Playing for the galley ie Pindi.

Here is the context of how he got brutally embarrassed on Twitter :

“These fake claims of fighting corruption have been busted before the people of Pakistan, who now understand that all of this is nothing but a political victimisation drive.” Shahid Khaqan Abbasi The Legend

PTI have been found guilty in all crimes they alleged on their opponents. PMLN team is working on major corruption exposes of PTI ministers & MNAs. Stay tuned brother.

I don't know how anyone can support PML-N with a clear conscience. You've got to be devoid any integrity or moral obligations to support them.

Unlike PPP, they don't even have a clear ideology. They're leftist liberals when the army deserts them. They're right-wing religiously inclined when they have to garner votes from the grass roots religious parties.

They're financially and morally corrupt. At least, PPP is willing to take a stand against things like blasphemy law etc.

It's a family business backed by complete buffoons who are hoping for some crumbs off the Sharif family table.

It won’t be long before the PTI drama is exposed. Lies and propaganda do not last forever.

Every single person here seems to have an agenda. Making every little thing into «us v them».

Honestly I wouldn't be so anti-PML-N if they were only financially corrupt. But I've seen what they did to Jemima in the 90s. What they used to do to Benazir Bhutto (someone I actually despise strongly). They used to over-throw democratically elected governments hand in hand with the judiciary or army.

They empowered the the Mullah rhetoric and extremist ideology of SSP/LeJ. They empowered butchers like Rana Sanaullah. Their lack of class post-elections was a terrible precedence to have set. And the fact Shebaz Sharif is considered a decent soul...

Indeed. Their financial corruption is just one way in which they have hurt this country. The consequences of their aiding and abetting extremist elements has been equally if not more detrimental. What is really sad is how supposedly educated people here support these criminals and want them back in power.

Some of these people are insane. In terms of ideology, PPP was the liberal left-wing and PML-N was the right-wing conservative party. Now these "educated people" are trying to convince us that PML-N are a liberal non-religiously inclined party. PML-N are masters of disguises and propaganda. I've been seeing it for my whole life.

Meanwhile, PTI is being propagated as a right-wing conservative party. It's probably right of center but it's nowhere near as right-wing or religiously inclined as PML-N has been.
