President's Trophy Grade-II to start on Tuesday

The President’s Trophy Grade-II 2024-25 is set to begin on Tuesday, 15 April across eight cities – Abbottabad, Haripur, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura and Swabi.

The 85-match tournament comprises of three-day matches except the final, which will be a four-day affair scheduled to take place from 22-25 May. Over 400 players across Pakistan will get the opportunity to showcase their skills in this red-ball tournament.

The winner of the tournament will be awarded PKR 5 million, while the runner-up team will collect PKR 2.5 million out of a total prize pot of PKR 7.75 million. The triumphant team will also qualify for the President’s Trophy Grade-I in the next domestic season replacing Eshaal Associates.

A total of 27 departmental teams are taking part in the tournament, which are divided into four groups. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-final stage set to take place from 14-16 May, while the semi-finals are slotted from 18-20 May.

The venues for the knockout stage of the President’s Trophy Grade-II will be shared later.

President's Trophy Grade-II knockout stage to begin on Monday

The quarter-finals of the President’s Trophy Grade-II will be played at four venues of the country starting tomorrow. The three-day tournament will see Kingsmen taking on Mit Solutions at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, while JDW Sugar Mills will face Railways at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

At the Saeed Sports City in Lahore, PAF will feature against Wing 999 Sports, whereas in the fourth quarter-final Sahir Associates will play Ghani Institute at the Rana Naveed Cricket Academy in Sheikhupura.

The winners of the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled from 24 to 26 May at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium and Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. The final, a four-day affair, will be played from 28 to 31 May. The venue of the final will be confirmed in due course.

Earlier, the tournament which began on 15 April, saw 27 departmental teams divided into four groups. In Group A, where each team played five games, Kingsmen and Wing 999 Sports finished first and second with five and three wins, respectively. In Group B, JDW Sugar Mills topped the table with 38 points, while Ghani Institute finished the group stage with 32 points from six matches.

Pakistan Air Force topped Group C with four wins, while Mit Solutions secured the second spot in the group with three wins. In Group D, Sahir Associates and Railways qualified for the quarter-finals by finishing first and second with four and three wins, respectively. Apart from Group A, all teams played six group-stage games each.

PAF’s Ateeq Ur Rehman and Umair Masood lead the batting charts with 674 and 664 runs, respectively. Ateeq has scored four centuries and two half-centuries from 10 innings, while Umair has registered three centuries and four half-centuries in 11 innings.

On the bowling front, Wing 999 Sports’ left-arm spinner Muhammad Tariq Khan has bagged 41 wickets which included three five-wicket hauls. Shaikh Mohammad Raza with his right-arm off-spin bowing has grabbed 32 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. Railways’ spinners Asad Ullah and Abdullah Zubair have taken 28 wickets each.

Sahir Associates and MIT Solutions to contest for President's Trophy Grade-II title

MIT Solutions and Sahir Associates will go head to head in the final of the President’s Trophy Grade-II at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium from 29 May to 1 June as the 2024-25 domestic season comes to an end.

The two teams have played eight three-day matches each and will get a chance to bag PKR 5 million if they win the final – a four-day affair, while the runners up will bag PKR 2.5 million. Out of a total prize pot of 7.75 million, there will also be awards for individual performances.

In the Group stage, Sahir Associates topped the Group D by winning four matches, while two of their games were drawn. Their quarter final and semi final fixtures against Ghani institute and JDW Sugar Mills, respectively were drawn but they advanced to the next stage based on first innings lead both in the games.

Sahir Associates’ wicketkeeper-batter Asim Ali Nasir is second on the leading run-scorer list with 735 runs in 12 innings just six behind PAF’s Atteq-ur-Rehman who sits atop. Asim has affected 23 dismissals behind the stumps.

On the bowling front Mohammad Bilawal and Shahid Ali – both left arm pacers, have aided Sahir Associates’ campaign with 31 and 22 scalps, respectively.

MIT Solutions, who finished second in Group C with three wins, one loss and two draws out of six games, too took first innings lead in their drawn quarter final and semi final matches against Kingsmen and Wing 999, respectively.

The batting duo of Muhammad Afzal (491 runs) and Husnain Nadeem (483 runs) has been prolific for MIT solutions. Among the bowlers, MIT’s Shahab Khan has bagged 23 wickets, while Raza Ullah has snapped 21 scalps.

Raza, Shahab restrict Sahir Associates to 272 on day one of final​


MIT Solutions’ pacers Raza Ullah and Shahab Khan shared seven wickets between them as they helped their team dismiss Sahir Associates on 272 in 66.2 overs on day one of the final of President’s Trophy Grade-II at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

After winning the toss and putting Sahir Associates in to bat first, Raza landed an early blow by removing opening batter Saad Athar on a golden duck. Fahad Usman (26, 48b, 4x4s) and Asim Ali Nasir (25, 30b, 5x4s) then constructed a 53-run partnership for the second wicket before the latter was removed by Raza.

Soon after, right-arm pacer Kaleem Ullah Khan got rid of Fahad as Sahir Associates found themselves 63-3 after 16 overs. Muhammad Saleem (58, 139b, 3x4s, 1x6) and Ahmer Ashfaq (43, 63b, 5x4s, 1x6) knitted together a 67-run partnership before Raza returned to break the alliance removing the latter in the 36th over as the scoreboard read 130-4.

Mohsin Khan (34, 41b, 6x4s, 1x6) and Muhammad Kashif (27, 21b, 2x4s, 1x6) chipped in with handy runs to take their team to cross the 200-run mark. Sahir Associates’ tail added 39 runs to the total before their innings was wrapped up.

Raza returned figures of 13.2-1-41-4 while Shahab picked up three wickets after giving away 58 runs in 15 overs.

At stumps, MIT Solutions found themselves 46-1 after 16 overs. Opening batter Husnain Nadeem was dismissed for 18, while Zain Ishaq remained unbeaten on 21. The duo had put on 35 runs for the opening stand off 12.4 overs.

Fahad’s 158 Puts Sahir Associates in Command, Lead MIT by 504 Runs on Day 3

Fahad Usman led the charge with 158 (191), supported by Ahmer Ashfaq 51 (71), Muhammad Saleem 36 (87), and Khawaja Muhammad Abdullah 31 (31), while MIT’s Kaleem Ullah 2-58 and Raza Ullah 2-106 shared wickets; earlier, MIT were bowled out for 135 with Shahid Ali 4-60, Mohsin Khan 2-4, Muhammad Bilawal 2-27, and Khan Zeb 2-30 doing the damage.
 
Sahir Associates Clinch President’s Trophy Grade-II Title

Abbottabad, June 1 – Sahir Associates have won the President’s Trophy Grade-II tournament, defeating MIT Solutions by a massive margin of 355 runs in the final.

With this victory, Sahir Associates have secured qualification for next season’s President’s Trophy Grade-I.

On the final day of the four-day match at Abbottabad Stadium, Sahir Associates posted 449 runs in their second innings before being bowled out. Mohsin Khan scored 68 runs, while Kaleemullah claimed 5 wickets for 83 runs.

MIT Solutions were set a target of 587 runs in 75 overs, but their innings ended at 231 runs. Muhammad Bilal (70) and Hasnain Nadeem (54) were the top scorers. Khanzaib starred with the ball, picking up 5 wickets for 73 runs.

Sahir Associates win President's Trophy Grade-II 2024-25

Sahir Associates romped to President’s Trophy Grade-II title with a thumping 355-run win over MIT Solutions on day four of the final here at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The title winners remained unbeaten during their nine-match run in the tournament winning five and drawing four and will now feature in the President’s Trophy Grade-I – the departmental first-class tournament to be staged in the upcoming domestic cricket season.

The PCB had set aside a prize pool of PKR 7.75 million for the tournament apart from engaging 27 departmental teams in a highly-competitive red-ball tournament taking place countrywide from 15 April to 1 June. Sahir Associates were awarded winners’ award of PKR 5 million, while runners-up MIT Solutions collected PKR 2.5 million, while top performers of the tournament were also given cash prizes.

MIT Solutions, who were set a mammoth target of 587 runs on the last day of the final in 75 overs, were dismissed for 231 in 37.2 overs with pacer Khan Zeb taking 5-73 in 9.5 overs.

For the runners-up, only no.4 batter Muhammad Bilal (70, 66b, 5x4s, 2x6s) and Husnain Nadeem (54, 38b, 4x4s, 3x6s) offered some resistance with brisk half-centuries laden with a flurry of boundaries. MIT Solutions slipped from 102-2 in 12.5 overs to 138-7 and then 231 all out.

Earlier, Sahir Associates added 82 runs to their overnight score of 367-7 as they were bowled out for 449 in 90.5 overs with MIT’s Keleem Ullah picking up 5-83. Sahir’s Mohsin Khan ended up with 68 after staying unbeaten overnight for 16.
