Austerity 'drive': 61 luxurious PM House vehicles sold at auction

ISLAMABAD: As part of the austerity drive initiated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government on Monday sold 61 out of 102 luxurious cars including bulletproof vehicles parked at the Prime Minister House.

The auction, which was won by individual buyers, would fetch the national exchequer over Rs200 million. The government, however, was able to sell only seven of 27 bulletproof cars, and failed to attract buyers to buy two bombproof cars.

Talking to reporters, PM House administrator said that the bidding price includes import tax and that the buyer will only have to pay withholding tax. The official added that the cost of the vehicles which did not fetch any buyers will once again be calculated by the Federal Board of Revenues, hinting at a fresh auction of the remaining cars.

Four recent models of Mercedes, eight bulletproof BMWs, three 5000-CC SUVs and two 3000-CC SUVs of 2016 model were among the vehicles up for auction.

Moreover, 24 Mercedes Benz of 2016 model were also displayed for auction, while two of the cars were 4,000-CC bullet-proof vehicles.

Further, 40 Toyota cars which included a 2004 Lexus, a 2006 Lexus SUV and two 2004-model Land Cruisers were also up for auction.

Other vehicles that were auctioned included eight Suzuki cars, five Mitsubishi vehicles, nine Hondas and two jeeps.

People from different walks of life came from across the country participated in the auction and were seen taking selfies with the luxurious cars.

Meanwhile, the PTI said on Twitter that three 2015 model Land Cruisers V8 were sold at Rs 27.4 million, Rs 26.5 million and Rs 26.1 million respectively.

Earlier, the federal minister for information, broadcasting and national heritage Fawad Chaudhry told reporters that the first batch of cars were sold above their market price, saying money fetched from these cars will be deposited in the national exchequer.

You have to remember there are dumb people who won't understand the significance of this. These same dumb people voted NS in.

They don't understand fighting for values. We can argue all we want but they love themselves over the country.

Yes what a depressing show

I’ve actually been to the White House (visited all of it except family wing) and the Pak PM House was certainly more glorious and fancy than that

I am still waiting for the source of these figures on the advertising. Many times the Noora media cell create a fake story, the BBC then report a figure which uses language like it has been claimed, then Nooras and other corrupt people then say the BBC are saying. Its an old trick used by the Nooras.

Even if this is true, what is there to criticize? Imagine the maintenance cost on those cars, selling them would save a lot of money in the long run, would definitely more than make up for the exta Rs. 2 crore spend on advertising.

Once again, I advise you to stop embarrassing yourself and stick to the cricket section of the forum ;-)

Only two out of 18 cars sold during auction of PM House vehicles

ISLAMABAD: Only two out of 18 cars were sold on Thursday as part of the ongoing auction of vehicles belonging to the Prime Minister House.

The vehicles are being auctioned as part of Prime Minister Imran Khan's austerity drive.

The two vehicles that were bought during the auction included a 1986 model car which gathered Rs175,000 and a 2016 model 4x4 which was sold for Rs1,810,000.

Further, not even one out of the 20 PM House bulletproof vehicles were bought during the auction.

PM House officials said the bulletproof vehicles will auctioned again on November 6, however, the date has not yet been finalised.

In his first address to the nation, Prime Minister Imran had emphasised on cutting government expenditure. As part of the cost-cutting initiative, he had announced the auction of surplus PM House vehicles.

Buffaloes, allegedly bought to cater to the 'gastronomic requirements' of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, have also been auctioned as part of the austerity drive.

Why did the PM need so many cars when literally millions dont have enough to eat. Whose been living the life of luxury. I blame IK for this life of luxury.

This is what happens when the seller is desperate to sell, buyer takes advantage

I guess there's some who don't understand the concept that unless you get what you deem to be a fair price (ie the minimum you're willing to accept) you will refuse to sell. I'm sure there would have been a great deal of buying interest if these cars were being given away at rock bottom prices. It's obviously the case that there would have been an auction starting price, or a reserve price, depending upon the car being auctioned, and that no one was willing to pay, and below which the government was not willing to sell.

There's no story here. Just shoddy journalism.
