His technique is very loose, Indian fans got obsessed with him because he has the ability to play some really orgasmic shots.

Mayank and Gill should open for India.
 
He is aging fast, poor kid has lost all his hair at the age of 21. He needs to keep up his fitness, he looks out of form as well, will be a tough Australian tour for him imo.

Like Sachin the guy has school records , he is being hyped since he was a teenager and looked like one.

Similar to Gill whose interview in Punjabi is on youtube when he was 12-14 too.

There is no doubt his age, he has been in news right from the U10.
There are plenty videos and images available, I have seen him in Netflix documentary when he was 12.:)

Yeah, I don’t really want to be a conspiracy theorist or anything. He has a well documented background, so I trust the official age. If there is fudging, then it’s max of 1 year which is not a big deal.
 
Watched the whole Prithvi Shaw innings vs Australia A live. His strokes are simply divine, still head, technically extra correct, has all the shots; the pull, cut, drive you name it. However he doesn't understand he needs to slowly build his innings, he has too much of a liking for hitting too many 4s, instead of steadily pacing his innings. He looked set for a big score when he got out for 40, the Australia A bowlers were hardly troubling him on a greenish wicket with good bounce...

He wont get anywhere in his career till he slows down, all the potential in the world but might end up going the way to how a few talented Pakistani bats went, basically to nowhere.
 
He has the same gift that Tendulkar had. They are so similar it is incredible.

We are looking at a once in a century talent develop in front of our eyes. Both him and Gill should up end up with 70+ international hundreds.
 
His hand eye coordination is one of the best in a young batsman in a long time. Special talent.

He is more talented than any Pakistan batsman since I don’t know forever. His problem is different - he is too young and too good, and as a result, he suffers from overconfidence.

The only thing he needs is a calming influence who can guide teach him to respect the bowlers a bit more. Every time he comes to the crease he feels like he can smash a hundred. He needs to change this mindset because there is a fine line between confidence and overconfidence.

He is a diamond and BCCI will never let a once in a century talent like him go to waste. They will give all the chances and the support he needs to fulfill his destiny as a legendary batsman.
 
I don't think he is as good as Indian fans have hyped him over here. With that technique, good bowlers will work him out easily and against moving ball, he is anyways a walking wicket.

There is a thread on this forum that he is the most overrated player of this millennium and when you consider that a guy with this technique got compared with Tendulkar and Lara so early in his career, I won't really oppose that discussion.

He basically batted like an ugly hack throughout this IPL. I stopped rating him after the first game when he played a joke of the shot vs Mohammad Shami and he didn't let me change my mind over the next 1.5-2 months.

To be fair Salman Butt was very talented, I would say more talented than Prithvi, he just got wasted away by PCB and eventually he made bad decisions which Koed his career.

I hope there will be a good ending when Shaw's career comes to an end, his stroke play and the way he runs between the wicket to get runs looks like a right handed Brian Lara. He has all the talent in the world but this aggressive stroke play of his, is going to catch him out in places like Aus, Sa, Eng...

He has the ability to play on fast and bouncy tracks but he doesn't seem to have the patience

He is a super talent. People need patience. It would be stupid to write him off. He can be world class very soon as we saw today vs Australia A.

Pakistan would kill to have a batsman like him.

Salman Butt was talented for sure, more so than what his numbers showed. He was finally getting his game together around 2009-10 across all formats before he got banned. His off-side play was exceptional.

However, Shaw is completely different league. Ability wise he is in the same class as Tendulkar and Lara. He is outrageously gifted.

He will not survive against moving ball or quality pace attack for even 10 minutes. Need 6 months time away from international cricket and correct his technique. The only good thing with him is that he plays some delightful shots which can make kids go crazy.

Like I said. Give him time. Rohit and even Kohli were written off at the same age. He will be fine.

Shaw will explode very soon. What worries me is his physique. He needs to freaking lose some weight and put some lean muscle mass. Jesus, he needs to put down the vada pav and oily crap.

You are what you eat. What you put into your body will reflect in your performance.

It's like a car. Why don't we put cooking oil in the fuel tank and see how the car performs. Same thing with the human body.

Does he have the mental strength to watch his diet and eat like an athelte ? I don't know.

In cricket, when you have amazing ability, you will still have an excellent career even if you are not very focused on fitness. Rohit is a prime example - his work ethic in terms of fitness is inferior compared to some other Indian batsmen including Manish Pandey and a host of others, but his ability is at a different level.

One can argue that he would have surpassed Kohli if he had the same dedication to his fitness regime, and maybe it’s true, but the point is that even if Shaw doesn’t work hard on his fitness, he will still have a stellar career.

The only way he will fail in the long run is if he suffers a career-ending injury and develops some mental health issues.

Shaw is very talented and will be a good player for India.

But why do you lose the plot when it comes to Indian and England players? As talented as Lara and Tendulkar LOL?

Tendulkar was a regular for India at Shaws age. Just let Shaw play regularly for India before making your usual OTT comments about England and Indian players.

Tendulkar was a regular player for India because India at the time had a weak lineup and it was easy for a special talent like him to break in.

A teenage Tendulkar did not have the level of batsmen that Shaw has ahead of him.

Shaw had a great start to his Test career, got injured and then the likes of Rohit and Agarwal stepped up and scored mountains of runs.

India knows that Shaw has a 20 year career ahead of him, and Shaw knows that too, and he would already be a fixture if India already didn’t have incredible batsmen ahead of him with a few years left in the tank.

He needs to score and be a regular player before you start chucking tags around saying he is as talented as Lara and Tendulkar. There haven't been many who have been as talented and as good as them. So it's frankly ridiculous to say a player who hasn't even played 20 games for his country is as talented as 2 of the greatest to play the game.
 
To be honest, Shaw seems inferior to Umar Akmal based on technique and ability. His shot selection issues thus far don't exactly merit much confidence either.

Your talent does not increase with experience. It is always there. There is no doubt over Shaw’s outrageous talent. Whether he will do justice in the long run or not is a different issue.

India produced a legendary batsman every generation. When you look at Shaw and Gill, it is easy to see that this trend will continue.

Yeah, his overall game doesn't instill enough confidence. He will get better but I hope we don't have to waste about 35-40 tests before that starts happening.

Going by the trend of Indian batsmen, I have a feeling that he will average 60 at home and 25-30 away by the time he plays 35 tests and maybe improve after that.

And it may happen. Both are talented, but I am not taking your word for it. You tend to go overboard when it's about an Indian or English Batsmen. Shaw especially has some major issues to address. And frankly, his Long format game doesn't inflict much confidence. He plays too fast for this cricket. The defensive game just isn't there. If he wants to continue to play at a strike rate of over 100 in Tests than his consistency will Suffer massively. As for Gill, he has more potential but again, needs consistent chances.
 
At the moment, Shaw is a glorified hack.
His technique is too loose for Tests and he doesn't know how to build an innings.

Surely he will continue to score in India/Asia but he can't survive in SENA with that technique.

Gill is a much better prospect than the overhyped Shaw.

The difference is when pakistan give youngesters a chance they automatically mediocre but when indian give youngesters a chance they are superstars or world class

Even when the likes of Pant and Iyyer are underperforming they are world-class Players who are unlucky and only need more matches before they explode like a nuke and become the best batsmen the world will never see, However even the best Pakistan Batsmen are lucky and make soft runs and are a level below the worst Indian Batsman. Such is the agenda and mindset of a few people here. Really brings down the quality of cricket discourse. Shameful really.

NhA c'mon. I have chastised pant heaps. Iyer lmao. I don't rate him at all outside Asia. Dude is a trash cannon fodder in bouncy wickets. Also unproven in swing conditions .

Can't believe people compare that chump to Babar.

Pant at least showed promise. He scored centuries vs Australia and England. He has potential. His problem is his weight. He needs to eat like an athelte. He is a inflated balloon at the moment. He needs the cut out the pakora, vada pav etc. He has legit potential.

I think your one of the people who actually appreciate some talent in pakistan but alot of indian fans do not even if they were world class they will state mediocre or all sorts
 
He needs a stint in county cricket to get defensive game sorted. Plays too many shots for a test opener and has lot of technical deficiencies. With his prodigy status, it won’t be much difficult to get interest from counties.

Shaw is Sehwag v2, he will continue with the same style that he plays and will become consistent after some time, no need to call him overrated.
I have seen so many times that whenever a batsman with an unorthodox style of play arrives in international cricket he is tagged as overrated.
Shaw's hand eye coordination is out of the world and he will definitely come good.

Let's see. I'm not very taken in by Shaw at the moment and his physique from what I see isn't inspiring either.
 
This guy is a dud, can't believe Indians were praising him so much. He has no technique, can't handle the short ball, goes fishing every ball.

He would be better suited to number 6, not a top order batsman, as a coach his technique does not stand up and he has already been exposed against or D grade bowling line-up.

Because it is a necessary learning curve. He is expected to have a 20 year glittering career for India. He has to go through these periods to develop the mentality to score 10,000 runs.

Hiding him will not do him any good.

I agree, Shaw getting out to the second ball of the test match isn't attributable to mental reasons. However, he has huge issues with technique and concentration, which will hinder his development outside Asia. At the moment, much of the hype is unjustified.

On Gill, I hold the same opinion as you, he will be the next world-class batsman to come out of India.
 
Warne called Shaw a mix of Tendulkar, Lara and Sehwag.

I agree with him but in the long run, he will be better of without Sehwag. He was a brilliant player but you don’t need his excessive flair when you already have the talent of Tendulkar and Lara.

In my view, his only problem at the moment is his overconfidence, and that can happen when you are young and ultra-talented. Batting is too natural for him and it is hard for him to restrain himself.

With time, he will learn to be more cautious and show greater awareness of which bowlers he should target and how to see off the new ball etc.

India rarely lets an elite batting talent go to waste. They have invested too much in him over the last 5-6 years.
 
Prithvi Shaw has big weakness against inswingers, he leaves a big gap between bat and pads, today he got out to a respectable delivery. I have seen him throwing his wicket in far more bizzare way.

Shaw fans are emotional as well as delusional, his ability is the kind of shots that he can play but his technique is clearly flawed and any comparison with Tendulkar or Lara is as laughable as one can get.

Sehwag also had problems with inswingers and lack of foot movement but he was a genius to have pulled off such a fantastic career. Shaw will find it hard because of the competition around. It only makes sense for him to work on his technique and then come back strong. Once he does that, then comes the mental strength part.
 
He needs more time. Work on inswinging deliveries. It's ok. It happens.

He is still a quality player. Spend more time honing your skills kid. He will be back.

He is quality no doubt but fans need not to compare him with Tendulkars and Laras. He does not have the potential of that level in test cricket. Failures are part of the game and everyone goes through it to get better.

He will prob explode in 5 years from now and become a world beater. He is too young and impatient right now.
 
We've begun to overhype players starting 2015 and they usually end up by the wayside after very little substance.

Shaw is one of them.

KL Rahul has scored a century in Australia. Shaw has looked shaky in the last few months.

I think Gill will replace Kohli when he goes away after this game.
 
Ricky Ponting predicts Prithvi Shaw’s exact mode of dismissal a ball before he gets out for a duck

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting predicted Prithvi Shaw’s exact mode of dismissal seconds before the India opener was bowled for a second-ball duck after India opted to bat first in the historic first-ever day-night Test match against Australia in Adelaide on Thursday.

Ponting who was in the commentary box for 7 cricket when play began with Starc taking the ball for Australia and Shaw taking guard for India, explained how the young India opener has a tendency to leave a gap between his bat and pad while playing in-coming deliveries.

“If he does have a chink in his armour it’s the ball which does come back into him,” Ponting said after Shaw defended Starc’s first ball, which was pitched on a good length and went on with the angle.

“He’s very comfortable playing the ball away from his body. He does get his head in line with the ball but he doesn’t commit his front foot to the line of the ball and quite often leaves a big gap between bat and pad and that’s where the Aussies will target,” Ponting said even as Starc started his run-up for the second ball.

The left-arm quick pitched it slightly fuller a tad wide off the stump in the next ball and Shaw took the bait. He went for a drive on the up without moving his feet, got an inside edge and dragged it onto his stumps.

This was Shaw’s first duck in Test cricket.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Ponting is well aware of Shaw’s weaknesses as the Australian great has been working with the India right-hander in the IPL for two seasons now. Ponting is the head coach of Delhi Capitals, the franchise for which Shaw opens the batting in the IPL.

India preferred Shaw over Gill despite the former being horribly short of runs in the warm-up matches ahead of the four-match series.

“It looks like a nice wicket, nice and hard,” Kohli said after winning the toss. “We’d like to put some pressure on the opposition.”

Joe Burns and Matthew Wade will open the batting for Australia. Regular opener David Warner is out with a groin injury. All-rounder Cameron Green will play his first test for Australia, which has won all seven day-night matches it has played with the pink ball.

Green will bat at No. 6.

“Happy to be bowling first. There might be a bit in it,” Australia captain Tim Paine said at the toss. “Certainly would have liked to bat first but our attack will perform in all conditions.”

Rahul has been dire in tests for quite some time now. Averages just 22 during last 2 years, with just 1 fifty & 1 hundred in his last 15 tests.

In fact he should consider himself to be lucky to be in our test squad.

I get the gist what you're trying to say here. Rahane has been very poor during last few years, but Rahul has been even more pedestrian especially in away tests.

So Rahul is not the answer to our batting woes especially in test cricket. He has been given ample number of chances in test cricket.

But those chances were opening,no?

Batting in MO will be completely different.I still believe he's good enough to turn it around there.If it doesnt work out ,we can always dump him as well (alongwith Rahane).
