Protests erupt across Chichawatni after assault, killing of eight-year-old

Protests erupted on Tuesday in Chichawatni after an eight-year-old girl was raped and burnt by unidentified men.

Police claimed to have arrested a suspect after locals gave a strike call. Educational institutions remained closed city-wide with demonstrators demanding the culprits be quickly nabbed.

CJP takes notice of Jaranwala child rape
Mohammad Younus of Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital confirmed the victim had suffered 70% burns. The condition of the deceased was said to be serious when she was found three hours after going missing. The girl was taken to the provincial capital due to the severity of her injuries. Samples taken during the autopsy of the victim have been sent to Lahore for a test.

Later, funeral prayers of the deceased were offered at Chichawatni’s Rai Ali Nawaz Stadium. An FIR of the incident has been registered. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and ordered Punjab IG Arif Nawaz to present a report.
