Sunil Narine reported for suspected illegal bowling action

Sharjah, March 15, 2018:

Lahore Qalandars player Sunil Narine has been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action during last night's HBL Pakistan Super League Twenty20 game between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah..

Mr. Narine has now been placed on the warning list and may continue to be selected to play and bowl for his team in the PSL.

As the PSL follows the ICC Regulations on Illegal bowling actions, if a player is reported while on the warning list, the player shall be suspended from bowling for the remainder of the PSL tournament

A player suspended from bowling may continue to be selected to play in matches, however, he will not be entitled to bowl.

The Match Officials Report on Mr. Narine’s bowling action will be sent to the West Indies Cricket Board and he will have to go through the process that is followed by the West Indies Cricket Board, for suspected illegal bowling actions.

What's the point of putting Narine on the list when Tournament is almost over. He is been chukking since the beginning of the tournament.

It seems like when team is loosing chukking doesn't matter.

Poor Narine.

The guy is transforming himself into an All rounder to increase his chances of playing in T20 leagues.

I wonder if he has to undergo test before IPL or he can still bowl in IPL? I really hope his action is found illegal. I just dont like him for some reason and he also plays for KKR (the franchise i hate the most).

I don't like KKR too. But this year, I will be supporting them.

3 of Our U19 players are playing for KKR.

Mavi/Nagarkoti/Gill are all in KKR Squad. Can't hate KKR anymore.

Narine will be observed even more closely in IPL by Umpires.

Are you kidding me ?! Him and Hafeez should book permanent hotel rooms outside the ICC testing centres in Loughbrough and Chennai.

Tumko Dekh Lunga.

This guy is a perenial chucker. Was shocked to see him being retained by KKR. He is nothing if he cant chuck.

Who else did KKR selected beside Narine? If Narine is banned from bowling then I doubt KKR would select him purely as a batsman, heck chances are his contract might even get null and void if he is banned from bowling.

Will surely affect a already thin KKR squad in the IPL

It will be good for our U19 players who will get more exposure.

KKR will be forced to play one of Nagarkoti or Mavi eveyr game. I have seen their squad and their batting is awful. This means, there is a good chance Gill will get a look in very soon.

Overall, a very poor team and will be demolished by sides like RCB, SRH etc.

I could be wrong but in order for Narine to play IPL, he needs to undergo test. Since, PSL is ICC approved, any bowler banned or reported in league can also impact his international career and/or his career in other leagues.

Actually, i never hated KKR the team, infact traditionally they always had pretty solid team. I just dislike the drama queen SRK.
As far as U19 rosters in KKR, its rather unfortunate that they will be playing under Karthick’s captaincy. He could ruin the chances of Gill or some upcoming youngster as those will be in direct competition for his spot in Indian team (i hope he could prove me wrong)

With that looks like offspin is officially dead in LOI now. And in tests, it's just Ashwin. Sad times.

I don't think he chucks, I was watching him bowl and initially, I also thought he chucked. But he would straighten his arm before releasing in the replays I saw of him. And I'm pretty sure the rule is you can chuck as much as you want but you need to straighten your arm before release.

Nathan Lyon is also a quality offie. Bangladesh’s Mehendi Hasan, and England’s Moeen Ali aren’t too bad either. But yes, the overall off spin quality have been declining. But on the bright side, we are seeing more and more wrist spinners emerging.

Markhor we"ll give him a pass on this one as far as the WC QF's are concerned:)) looks like he was working on his action all along :yk2

Forgot about Lyon. Never heard of Mehendi, but wouldn't surprised he's decent, Bangladesh produce good spinners. Don't rate Moeen too highly, in reality he's just a good part timer which England are forced to play as their quality of spinners is so low. Rashid while not amazing is a far better bowler (in LOI at least).

But still in LOI taken a big hit. Lyon and Ashwin aren't really in the LOI teams anymore.

I think chucking is to do with straightening of the arm, as that gives the throwing motion. You are allowed to bowl with a perfectly bent arm if you want to, it's legal.

Seems like planned move lol...wait till end of psl tournament then call him for illegal action...so he cannot take part in IPL ... therefore take away one of the star attractions of IPL thus reducing the quality... nice move lol

I don't blame you bro.

It is hard to like cheaters like Bhajji, Hafeez, Ajmal, and Narine when they screw over honest cricketers, both batsmen, and the honest spinners sitting at home.

Anyone found chucking after "remodelling" their action should be permanently banned from bowling.

This is a complete farce.

Our very own Hafeez is making a mockery of cricket when he chucks in games while bowls perfectly fine during bio tests.

Fixers who bowl 1-2 no balls in a test match get punished more severely ironically while these chuckers are even ranked alongside greats like Warne :))

Yes I understand that but kkr have invested a lot in Narine and he has been selected to be a main starter . Now he could be banned.

Yes not expecting big things from kkr this season.

IPL got tons of star quality players. Losing one wont really affect much. As an Mumbai Indian fan, i actually want him to get banned :sammy cricketjoshila

I wish they planned this much about bringing the crowds in. :afridi1

West Indian spinner Sunil Narine has once again been reported for a suspected illegal bowling action in the ongoing Pakistan Super League, a development that could jeopardise his IPL participation.

Narine, who is appearing for the Lahore Qalanders franchise in the T20 league, has been reported by the match officials after Wednesday night's game against Quetta Gladiators.

The Pakistan Cricket Board said Narine had been placed on the warning list and can continue to play in the tournament and bowl.

This could put his participation in the Indian Premier League, which is starting in a few weeks' time, in doubt. Narine turns out for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

But as per ICC bowling action regulations, if he is reported again by match officials, he shall remain suspended from bowling in the tournament.

Pakistan's former captain and presently coach of the Quetta Gladiators team, Moin Khan, raised concerns over Narine's bowling action after the match and said he was surprised that no one had reported the West Indian spinner for his action as yet.

This is not the first time Narine's bowling action has been reported.

He faced a similar dilemma during the 2015 Indian Premier League when he was stopped from bowling by the technical committee while in November the same year the International Cricket Council suspended him for having an illegal action.

Tests revealed all his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees elbow extension allowed by the ICC under its bowling action regulations.

In 2014 also Narine was stopped from bowling in the Champions League after being reported twice in successive matches by match officials.

The PCB said if Narine is reported again in the PSL and suspended, he will be able to play but not bowl again.

The match officials report on Narine's action will be sent to the West Indies Cricket Board and he will have to go through the process that is followed by the WICB, for suspected illegal bowling actions.

Narine's team, Lahore Qalanders, are already out of the PSL playoffs but play their final league match today. The spinner has been a key player for them in the tournament bowling the super over successfully earlier this week.

The West Indian who has played appeared in six Tests, 65 ODIs and 48 T20 internationals is expected to play in the game against Peshawar Zalmi.

He is a smart guy, didn't play today and saved himself for IPL

Narine may not participate next season as well . Why risk big payday any further after warning. Narine is one of the WI player who chose IPL over playing for WI before IIRC.

Bette to concentrate on rectifying action and get it cleared once again before IPL starts...smart choice :srini

Narine likely to be tested in Chennai

West Indies spinner Sunil Narine is likely to visit the bio-mechanical facility at the Sri Ramachandra Sports Medicine Centre here to get his bowling action cleared ahead of IPL-11.

According to the IPL guidelines, any bowler who has been ‘reported’ has to come to a BCCI-accredited clinic and the facility in Chennai is the only such centre in the country.

Narine, who was ‘reported’ in the recent Pakistan Super League, and then put on a ‘warning’ list and allowed to bowl in the competition, will have to go through the process in India since IPL guidelines are stricter.

He will be racing against time as well since his team, Kolkata Knight Riders, plays its first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Kolkata on April 8.

A source told The Hindu here on Friday, “We have to first look at the videos of his earlier faulty action, and then see his remodelled one now.”

After Narine is tested using 3-D technology and sensors for assessing elbow flexion from different angles, a report will be sent to the BCCI Suspect Action Committee comprising S. Venkatraghavan, Javagal Srinath and A.V. Jayaprakash for a decision.

He is still chucking some of his deliveries. But he's getting away with it in the IPL.

Clearly chucks anytime he gets hit. Absolute mockery of cricket. Have no time for chuckers.

Kohli complained that in a match. But he was then bashed for being unsportsmanlike.

I have no problem with that, as I have no problem with Ashwin chucking on purpose in that match wearing full sleeves. Cricket has to get it's head outside its backside. What's worse? Cheating (which is what I consider chucking to be) or calling it out? Which is more unsportsmanlike?

The likes of Ajmal, Harbhajan, Narine.etc will always have the * against their records thanks to their actions in my opinion.
