International cricket to resume later this year in Pakistan: Ehsan Mani

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ehsan Mani said on Thursday that international cricket will return to Pakistan later this year when the country will be hosting matches for the Asian test championship against Sri Lanka in September and Bangladesh in January/February next year.

“This is very good news for Pakistan cricket and it will herald the resumption of international cricket in Pakistan,” he said while taking to media at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.

Mani said the ICC test championship is spanned over two years and will end in year 2021.

“We will host the Sri Lankan team for two test matches of this inaugural edition of the event in September then our team will be flying to Australia in October/November for one day and night and one day test of the championship,” he said.

He revealed that the Sri Lankan team will then play bilateral series in Pakistan in December this year which will feature three one day internationals and similar number of T20 matches.

The PCB chief said PCB is trying to persuade the foreign teams to visit Pakistan and in this regard he is utilising his experience of heading the International Cricket Council and his personal relations with different cricket boards.

“We want to see our cricket arenas having international cricket activities on a regular basis, the way it used to be in the past and we are speeding up our efforts and contacts with cricket playing nations, as [now] things have improved a lot as far as the security situation is concerned,” he said.

Mani said that after the tour by Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh team will be visiting Pakistan to play two test matches of the ICC test championship in January/February next year which will be followed by three T20 matches of a bilateral series between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

“I am confident that with the successful holding of these events we will be able to send a positive message to the world that things have become conducive in Pakistan as far as the holding of international cricket matches is concerned,” he said.

He said that the chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket Australia will be visiting Pakistan in September this year to review security arrangements.

“The CEO of the England and Wales Cricket Board will also be visiting Pakistan later this year to see the security arrangements in Pakistan,” he added.

“These visits by the Australian and England cricket high ups will be very important to ascertain the security situation in Pakistan and to assess the possibilities of their respective teams visiting in due course of time.”

Bilateral cricket with India

Mani said he has the same old stance on bilateral cricket with India: it (India) should visit Pakistan first to fulfil its bilateral commitment of playing cricket.

“We will not beg India or any other country to play cricket with us; we want resumption of bilateral cricket ties with India in a decent and dignified manner,” he asserted.

The PCB chief said Pakistan's women team will be visiting India this November to play matches of the ICC women championship and the team's participation will help PCB to know how serious the Indian board is to resume bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan.

All PSL 5 matches in Pakistan

Mani also expressed confidence that all matches of the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League shall take place in Pakistan.

"We have identified four venues. We are working on making that a reality and have begun improving the stadiums. Unfortunately, over the past ten years these stadiums were not maintained because Pakistan did not have international cricket," he said.

The PCB chairman said that maintenance and upgradation had already largely been carried out in Karachi before PSL 4 and in Lahore, too, stands complete to a large extent. He said work was now being done at the Rawalpindi and Multan stadiums.

'Have done my best'

The PCB chairman said that 85 per cent task on his agenda to make the PCB a professional organisation through quality management and governance and to make domestic cricket tough and competitive besides forwarding recommendations in the PCB constitution to the quarters concerned has been achieved, which will help make the PCB a role model organisation in due course of time.

“During my so far almost nine months in office, I have done my best to introduce a new culture of quality management, besides making recommendations in the PCB constitution to bring overall improvement in domestic cricket and in the organisational set-up of the PCB,” he said.

“I feel content so far in my endeavours,” he told the media.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairperson Ehsan Mani on Friday officially announced that all matches of the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) fifth edition would be played in the country.

According to the details, the matches will be played in four cities including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.

The PCB chairman further said that Pakistan was hopeful of hosting Sri Lanka and Bangladesh later this year whereas, he confirmed that the heads of Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) would be visiting Pakistan this year.

Mani also expressed hope that the Asia Cup would be held in Pakistan as per schedule.

Separately, Mani, while speaking to media personnel at the Gaddafi Stadium, Mani said that 85 per cent of the tasks on his agenda, including elevating the PCB to a professional level through quality management and governance, have been achieved.

That, he added, also included making domestic cricket tough and competitive besides forwarding recommendations in the PCB constitution to the concerned quarters. These would help make the body a role-model organisation in the due course of time.

“During my so-far almost-nine months in office, I have done my best to introduce a new culture of quality management, besides making recommendations in the PCB constitution to bring overall improvement in domestic cricket and in the organisational set-up of the PCB,” he said.

“I feel contended in my so-far endeavour!”

Good for Pakistan cricket. Just ignore all those who won't tour and get on with the tournament. It will do fine. Best of luck

Great news.

PSL franchises should generate more money after this...

Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan are great venues to hold matches.

I feel like more aggressive change will happen after the World Cup. Mani and Wasim Khan probably didn't want to mess around with world cup plan (which could case destabilization), so they will probably do a lot more after WC.

PSL being held in Pakistan is great news. We can generate a lot more revenue that can be invested into improving domestic cricket -equipment, pitch quality, staff, and organization.

Another thing they should do is also try to arrange some more tours besides the Test chanpionship and select a crop of new, young players who have been doing well in donestic cricket. We really need to groom a new generation of players.

For tests, Azhar, Shafiq, Sarfraz, Hasan Ali, and possibly Yasir need to go.

ODIs: Sarfraz, Hafeez, Malikat the very least must go after WC.

Let's hope for some strong changes from Mani and co

Again empty statements by him. How he has managed till now and delegated major powers to mafias like Shakeel Sheikh and Inzamam that has brought our team to its knees.

PSL is one tournament what about Quaid Azam trophy, Natl. T20 or the One Day Cup which the chief selector has more or less ignored.

I have zero hope from this guy, if he is sincere he should've ousted Inzamam and other mafioso who have decimated our batting lineup for last 3 years.

Ok.

Let's see if it's Faysal Bank T20 cup or really the PSL with foreign stars in it.

Yeah it seemed like Faysal Bank T20 in the 8 matches of the PSL that were held in Karachi this year. Kuch bhi bol do bus moh chalana hai. :najam

More importantly he is saying both SL and BD tours will be held in Pak. that is big development than PSL

More importantly he is saying both SL and BD tours will be held in Pak. that is big development than PSL

But that seems more like a wish than a claim. Organizing international tours in Pakistan needs support from the other nations, which we may not receive. PSL on the other hand, can be held in Pakistan without too much convincing. Most of the international players came to Pakistan this year.

If his is true, then it is a very risky move. Providing security for 1 upto 8 games is feasible. But for 30+ games is difficult.
1 major attack and cricket in pak will be finished forever!

If this is the mentality then we should never play cricket in Pakistan again. At some point you trust your intelligence agencies and security arrangements. We are now at that point.

By these comments he only wants to take away the attention of fans from World Cup 2019 disaster....
He knows that he along with Inzi and others have put Pakistani fans down.

Now I will be scheduling my annual visit to Pakistan according to PSL matches. Will watch in Lahore and Pindi. Nice and warm weather, not hot, compared to USA.

I hope you are are correct and Pakistan is ready for such a big event.
If you are wrong, then you are risking the entire future of cricket in Pakistan, by simply rushing things!

Honestly I'm not in favour of such a huge jump. It went from just the final, to play offs, to 8 games (all in Karachi) now the whole tournament. Baby steps, PCB, baby steps.

I'll believe it when I see it. I don't trust anything Pak Cricket officials say.

Not sure if it's feasible but PCB should try and get Yuvraj Singh (if Pakistanis are ok with it) to PSL. It will generate a lot of buzz and PSL can tear into Indian market too..

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has hinted at the possibility of touring Pakistan for a two match Test series later this year following a request from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The two match series was scheduled to take place in UAE but the PCB was looking at the possibility of bringing Test cricket back to Pakistan. UAE had become the venue for Pakistan’s bilateral games after the Sri Lankan team bus came under a terrorist attack in 2009.

SLC President Shammi Silva currently in the UK ahead of his team’s World Cup fixture against England in Headingley told The Island that the board is looking at the proposal favourably.

"PCB has made a request and we will assess the security situation. We are looking at the possibility favourably," Silva told The Island.

PCB sent down their Under-19 team soon after the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka that killed more than 250 people. It remains to be seen whether SLC will be able to convince their players to make the trip to Pakistan. In 2017, Sri Lanka toured Lahore to play a one off T-20 International but several senior players including skipper Upul Tharanga pulled out from the game.

Won’t those 2 Test matches with Sri Lanka be part of the World Test Championship? Sri Lankan players will be under pressure to perform. Don’t think they’ll want additional concerns about security.

SLC may send a team. But will players pull out? If they do, will SL send a weakened team for the test championship?

For the moment it is vital for emerging Pakistani players to play alongside top class players even if they play this cricket outside Pakistan in DUBAI. PSL should be held outside but with maximum participation of foreign professional players.

There is no reason for SL to deny the invitation. Security situation in Pakistan is quite good for years now, as good as in any cricket laying nation.

London: Pakistan's bid to encourage Australia to tour for the first time in more than 20 years will step up in September when Cricket Australia chief Kevin Roberts visits the country.

Roberts is planning a stopover in the sub-continent when returning to England before the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval during a busy northern summer for Australian cricket.

He has a strong relationship with Pakistan Cricket Board managing director Wasim Khan, who has spent the past year lobbying for an Australian return. Australia last toured Pakistan for three Tests and three one-day internationals under then-captain Mark Taylor in 1998.

CA has no immediate plans to complete a full tour of Pakistan but there could be the opportunity for a "fly in, fly out" Twenty20 match. That could see Australia based in Dubai but make a 90-minute flight on a private jet to Karachi, play a match that night, then immediately return to Dubai.

Safety and security fears remain the key issue, but a touring side would be given presidential-level security.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, the former champion cricketing all-rounder, could also get involved in encouraging Australia to return.

Pakistan will tour Australia for two Tests this summer, with the two nations due to then meet again in 2021. The PCB is keen for that series to be in Pakistan, and not in the United Arab Emirates.

The PCB had wanted Australia to play a part of their five-match series in March in Pakistan but CA did not agree, the series being held in full in the UAE.

Pakistan have suffered as a result of having to stage home matches in the UAE, with attendances, as reinforced during the two-Test series against Australia in October, almost non-existent. This has also impacted on the broadcast rights fees the PCB has been able to demand.

CA often receives correspondence pointing out there are also security fears in other major cricketing nations, with the Christchurch mosque shootings in March this year used by some as one example. But this will not have any impact on CA's stance.

It's been a decade since Sri Lankan players were attacked by gunmen on the team bus in Pakistan, an incident that injured six players and killed six security personnel. There has been little international cricket in the country since.

But there has been some encouragement for the PCB. Sri Lanka returned for a one-off Twenty20 in 2017, while the West Indies played a three-match T20 series in Karachi last year. Australian Test captain Tim Paine, Ben Cutting and George Bailey were part of a World XI that played a three-match T20 series there in 2017.

Aaron Finch, Australia's World Cup skipper, has said he would relish the chance to play in Pakistan provided safety and security issues were allayed.

One major issue remains the advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which encourages travellers to "reconsider your need to travel".

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia will soon release the Big Bash League fixture for next summer, according to state sources. The biggest debate has been over a change in the finals format. The current system features only four sides, meaning there are two knock-out semi-finals and then the final.

This has not given the team finishing first any advantage - namely a second chance - outside of staging a semi-final at home.

Under revised plans, there is strong support for a five-team finals series but how that works has yet to be confirmed. One plan is to give the top team automatic entry into a semi-final, with the winner advancing into the final and the loser having a second chance in a preliminary final.

I think Pakistan is safer to tour after Imran Khan became PM. However, it may increase cost for PCB as extra security requires extra cost.

playing test matches in pakistan is a stretch. At best a series of 3 odis will suffice.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have agreed to send their team to play a Test match in Lahore, Pakistan in October, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

According to the sources, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held successful talks with SLC as now Pakistan will witness Test cricket after the gap of almost 10 years. Pakistan last played a Test at their home ground against the same opposition in 2009.

The PCB is also confident to host Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is in Pakistan in December as they are trying to convince the SLC.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have also given a positive response to the PCB to play two Tests and three T20Is in Pakistan in February. Bangladesh’s government will take the decision following the security situation in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Super League (PSL) has paved the way for the PCB to revive international cricket in Pakistan. The final of PSL season two laid down the solid foundation for Pakistan to once again host high-profile cricket events in the country.

Pakistan have so far hosted PSL matches in Karachi and Lahore, World XI, West Indies, and Sri Lanka since 2017.

Pakistan Cricket Board has started preparation for the fifth edition of Pakistan Super League, which may take place from February 20th to March 22 next year.

PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani had earlier said that the complete season of PSL 5 will take place in Pakistan.

The final of the PSL 5 is likely to be played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. While, the city is also expected to host matches Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United United and Multan Sultans.

According to sources, the board has been advised to host 11 matches in National Stadium Karachi, 9 games in Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, 8 matches in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and 4 encounters in Multan Cricket Stadium. Moreover, Kashmir and Peshawar may also host one match each in the next edition of the PSL.

The first game of the upcoming season of the PSL will be between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, however, the venue for the game has not be finalized yet.

Sources further revealed that players draft for the next episode of the glittering cricketing league will take place in November later this year.

5 venue is awesome news but i am not sure all of them will be international standard

The main thing to note will be how players will remain bound for two months. Would the players allowed to move freely in the country

PSL 5 to be entirely played in Pakistan, franchises told to avoid foreign players reluctant to abide

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to conduct the full season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next year at home, as per sources.

Pakistan cricket is currently undergoing a turbulent phase yet again after the country's disappointing exit from the 2019 World Cup where the Men in Green failed to make it to the top four. Taking a big step in the direction of improving the local structure, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to host the Pakistan Super League (PSL)'s fifth edition entirely at home. Majority of matches in the first five editions of the league were played in the UAE because of foreign players' reluctance on travelling to Pakistan due to the security issues.

However, the PCB, as per sources, has now decided to conduct the tournament at home. The next season of the PSL is likely to get underway in February 2020 with the final scheduled to be held in Lahore, as per the PCB sources. Not only in the PSL but Pakistan have also suffered massively on the international front as major teams have refused to tour the country due to security issues. But PCB is confident of delivering a smooth tournament next year after Prime Minister Imran Khan's decision to 'fix' Pakistan cricket.

Last year, the knockout games and the final of the PSL were staged in Pakistan. For the upcoming edition, PCB has told the franchises to pick only those foreign players who have no issues in travelling to Pakistan for the full duration of the league. The board also intends to inform the same to the overseas players, who are planning to put their name in the upcoming draft for the next season. If all goes well, it will a huge step in the right direction from the PCB in bringing international cricket back to Pakistan.

The Pakistan team couldn't make an impact at the ICC World Cup 2019 and returned home after failing to qualify for the knockouts, prompting PM Khan to publically announce that he will be overseeing the cricketing matters to work towards the improvement of the domestic structure. As per news agency PTI, PCB is also planning to revamp the stadiums where the PSL games will be played next year and the board is expecting a massive rise in profits due to the home factor.

The PSL kicked-off in 2016 and has so far been a success back in Pakistan. However, none of the four seasons has been played in entirety at home with UAE being used as the second home. A number of big names ply their trade in the tournament but a number of foreign players, over the years, have expressed their concerns when asked to travel to Pakistan.

https://www.timesnownews.com/sports...oid-foreign-players-reluctant-to-abide/460794

PCB must take written commitment from every players that unless there is some new incidents, players will play entire PSL in PAK, stay there for full duration - otherwise there will be heavy fine (may be even up to 80%+ contract amount). It's individual players vs PSL organizing committee, so they can put any clause that they want - ICC or PCB doesn't have any role here. After that, whoever is coming - welcome; I don't see any issues regarding the quality of the foreigners, because even in UAE, PSL is playing Dinesh Ramdhin at #4. It's utmost important that PSL is played in PAK & played safe.

If PCB can't force that, serious International Cricket won't return in PAK. BUT, but - PCB & PAK Govt. also has to ensure that once the players are in they are protected better than the Lankan players last time. Odd bomb blast here & there is one thing and none can stop that, but few goons brush firing Kalashnikov randomly for few minutes at the bus carrying International cricketers at the heart of one of the most secured cities in PAK is hardly explainable.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani will meet the owners of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises today (Monday).

The challenge of bringing foreign cricketers to Pakistan, for the upcoming fifth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL), will be discussed in the meeting. Meanwhile, the methodology that will be implemented in the upcoming tournament would also be brought to table.

The meeting comes after it was learnt that overseas cricketers refused to stay in Pakistan for a long period of time for the upcoming Twenty20 tournament. Whereas, the PSL franchises also think that holding the entire tournament in Pakistan is not feasible.

As per reports, the date of the PSL General Council meeting will be finalized after the meeting at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. The fifth edition of PSL is scheduled to commence in late February next year.
