There are reports that Nasser Hussain will join the broadcast team on February 4, 2022.

Who else are going to be the Commentators?

Bazid Khan?
Alan Wilkins?
Danny Morrison?

Big coup if true in regards to Nasser Hussain, heard rumours in regards to Bumble aswel not sure if its true.

Always thought the PSL should go after the SKY team, think they have been sidelined by BCCI for whatever reason and would be excellent additions.

Why can't they get Ian Chappell? Unless it's true that he like Michael Holding refuses to commentate on T20 Cricket

He's the biggest whinger going around, and drags down the overall quality of the box. Also there is nothing new he brings in terms of stories anymore.

There are better Australian commentators out there - Gilchrist from the Ashes commentary is great.

If the news around Nasser is true I think this could be a fantastic addition. I think Gower and Wilkins are there not sure about Shane Watson if he’s coming. I think with the amount of English players picked Atherton May as well become part of the PSL.

If we somehow can get Holding involved it would be such a blessing too. These are household names in cricket.

If they visit Pakistan than rest will have to as well.

An ideal commentary panel will have a good mix from England, Australia, NZ, South Africa, West Indies, India, Pakistan.

The 2020 PSL had Michael Slater, Graeme Smith, Mathew Hayden, Danny Morrison, Brad Hogg, Alan Wilkins, Ramiz Raja, Aamir Sohail etc

I would love it if they can coup some of Sky members i.e. Atherton, Nasser and Bumble.

Also if they can bring back Wilkins, Bishop and Simon Doull it would be a good panel.

I wished Shan Masood wasn't selected then he could have been a good addition too but alas we will have to wait on that front for now Bazid will do even Sikhanar Bhakt (not the old guy) would do. From female panel Zainab and Urooj Mumtaz. Please no Amir Sohail, Chisty Mujahid, Marina Iqbal or any other cringe commentator please.

Some of the leading cricket commentators will call the HBL Pakistan Super League 7 action. The Pakistan Cricket Board today unveiled the commentators for the upcoming edition, which will commence at Karachi’s National Stadium from 27 January.

Former England cricketer Nick Knight and Mike Haysman, the former first-class cricketer and now one of the most credible voices in world cricket, will mark their HBL PSL commentary debuts. This will be Haysman’s third visit to Pakistan in a year, after his stints in South Africa’s tour of Pakistan and the National T20 last year.

Former England captain David Gower returns for his second consecutive stint after the legendary commentator made his appearance in the Karachi-leg of the 2021 edition. Former New Zealand and Zimbabwe pacers Danny Morrison (Lahore matches only) and Pommie Mbangwa (Karachi matches only) also join the HBL PSL commentary roaster once again.

The Pakistan contingent of the commentators include former Pakistan cricketers Bazid Khan, Marina Iqbal, Sana Mir, Urooj Mumtaz and Waqar Younis, along with Tariq Saeed, the pioneer of Urdu commentary.

The action will be called in both English and Urdu languages to bring both international and local audiences closer to action. Thirty High-Definition cameras along with buggy and drone cameras will embellish the viewing experience of the fans of the league in Pakistan and around the world.

The Spider Cam will once again bring up and close experience with in-match chats between the players and commentators.

Presenter Erin Holland also marks a return to the league. Sikander Bakht and Zainab Abbas will host the pre- and post-match shows.

Cricket fans in Pakistan will be able to watch the HBL PSL 7 in high-definition on A Sports and PTV Sports, while viewers around the world can watch the action live on Willow TV (North America), Flow Sports (Caribbean), Sky Sports (United Kingdom), Sky Sport (New Zealand) and Super Sport (Africa).

no holding?, no one from west indies ?, they should have tried getting chris gayle to do some commentary - he's always up for some easy money.

did they not try and get someone from Engalnd(moeen ali / s.mahmood) / new Zealand (vetorri) / aussie (shane watson), south Africa (amla), sri lanka(sangakarra). Considering these countries wont tour pakistan bar windies - at least they should have got some ex cricketers to commentate from the above non touring countries

Nick Knight and David Gower are both English, Mike Haysman is Australian and Danny Morrison is from New Zealand?

We should have tried for Ian Bishop. For future there are a lot of upcoming presenters / commentators who have recently played in PSL too could be a very good scoop. Some of them are Watson, Sangakkara, Philander and Grant Elliott.

Unless you have Athers, Nas or Mikey, they are pretty much the same. The quality of the cricket will decide if its to be a success this year

The plan should be Urdu commentary on PTV Sports and English commentary on A Sports

no holding?,

I asked Mikey and he said that he's not watching cricket at the moment. Seems to have fallen out of love with cricket these days.

I tend to watch the PSL with the tv muted. Looking at the line-up of commentators they have this year, I will do the same.

fair enough, im assuming he's concentrating on racism in sports - considering his last few appearances on sky has been about this.

Bumble, hasn't he retired from commentry recently?
Or was it an exit from Sky only?

Good commies tell you something you cant see for yourself and add to the cricket, most guys are just noise.

I personally think that both Gower and Haysman are decent and Nick Knight can also be insightful. Regarding the others, Pommie, when not in hype mode, can also be insightful. However, there's no doubt that having Nas, Athers, Butch and Holding raises the quality, whilst Bumble raises the fun quotient.

As brother Bewal mentioned, it's the quality of cricket that'll be the main attraction.

The foreign commentators are all pretty good, although missing some better ones like Nasser and Bumble.

Tariq Saeed is excellent. Bazid is ok. Waqar is pretty bad. Marina and Sana are terrible.

Disagree on Sana Mir. It's clear that she's not fully comfortable in English, but when heard in her Urdu commentary, she adds alot regarding tactics and alternative approaches etc.

I think once she gets enough reps in, she'll bring that confidence level to her English commentary as well.

i like tariq saeeds dry humour, tends to make very concise points in a very indirect way. cant stand waqar, danny and bazid tho, they all try way too hard.

Yes and I'm afraid the PSL has 2nd and 3rd division level commentators mostly, not Premier League commentators.

Who would you call the Premier League Commentators?

I think the commentary panel is excellent, its got a decent number of big names.

A few names that would like to see in future series to potentially add to the mix would be Darran Ganga and Jeremy Coney.

Given how vocal Nasser and the Sky team are on the primacy of test cricket and how England need to focus less on T20 leagues its unlikely they would commentate on foreign leagues.

Would also be good to not hear Waqar commentate but I guess mans got to make a living.

Hahaha, at least they have David Gower; Pommie isn't awful either. I would never have unmuted my tv if they had recruited those BBL commentators for PSL.

Who are the Marque IPL Commentators?

Among the foreign contingent, Mbangwa and Morrison both headline the IPL as well along with the likes of Bishop and Doull. It's a merry go round.

Truth of the matter is there's much of a muchness about T20 commentary, you can't expect incisive cutting edge commentary on this format of the game.

Who would you call the Premier League Commentators?

To be honest the standard of commentary around the world is very poor these days.

Too many trying to be comedians instead of commentators.

My favourite commentators these days are Mike Atherton, Nasser Hussain, Michael Holding and Bumble.

Any idea why Ian Chappell has not been roped in? Has he retired? Does he not like commenting in T20 Cricket?

He only commentates on radio these days, and is 78 years old so would be classed as high-risk due to covid.

Looks like the PCB has captured everything now on the broadcast front. Is there anything left?

This is excellent, The tally has seriously grown to where the cricket is shown.

Will it not be streamed live on YouTube anymore?

Will it not be streamed live on YouTube anymore?

Maybe in only those regions where cricket channels and other streaming services are not available.

I would also like the PCB to only stream matches live on YT, FB in exchange for $ subscriptions and not show stuff for free online

Can the PCB find a South American broadcaster?

Which are the IPL broadcasters that the PSL has not gotten under its kitty.

The PCB should disclose how much these non-Pakistani broadcasters are paying them.

There is no way that the BPL has this kind of reach

ROW (Rest of World) comes under ICC TV umbrella so people who want to watch in that category can pay $5 to watch the entire PSL which is peanuts. This is great coverage and efforts by PCB/PSL.

I have listened to a lot of her urdu commentary as well. She seems to struggle putting together sentences in any language, which is probably just the way she is and hence is not someone suited to commentating on a live game. I agree with you that she raises good points during her commentary, I just dont think she can articulate her thoughts well (particularly in english but also in urdu). By contrast, I think Urooj is a better more fluent speaker.

Turned the tv on and 2 of the worst commentators out there were speaking in tandem.

Mute!

"Fakhar Zaman struggles when he isnt in good form" : TV comm (lady)

Listened to a couple of overs today.

Commentators trying hard to be funny and failing miserably, getting the players names wrong.

Mute again!

Waqar Younis talking like KK campaign is over already! Gower talking more sense and putting things in context.

Had my 5 minutes of commentary today.

Heard one of the women commentators making mistake after mistake, a male local commentator getting all of the players names wrong.

Muted!

GSL commentators box being readied

PSL has fixed video quality to a large extent. Overall, a far better quality of production than before.

However, many things still need fixing.

1. Audio. Can't hear the crowd properly. PSL atmosphere can't compare to England/Australia's when here, you can't hear the crowd reacting to every ball.
2. Lighting. Maybe because the crowd isn't well lit, the stadium looks darker than in other countries.
3. Info graphics. Not thorough, few stats, few deeper analyses. Also Crucial moments, you don't see bowler/batter figures but just runs/balls remaining. Personally not a fan of italicized words but that's a personal opinion.

A word of advice - if you can't speak English, stick to Urdu commentary.

7:30 PM start time in Lahore in the month of February is not good for cricket. It gets quite cold in the night and the wet ball makes the competition between bat and ball highly one sided.

The match also finishes a bit late at 11 PM. IMO, the start time should be around 5:30 in the month of February.

Listened to my few minutes per match today.

Found myself trying to work out what language was being spoken.

For next season, the PCB is planning for PTV to do their broadcast entirely in Urdu and for A Sports, other foreign broadcasters to do it in English similar to how Star telecasts the Indian IPL in various Indian regional languages

How and why does this lady called Marina get a gig?

She is probably the worst commentator I have ever heard in world cricket!

Nick Knight is a great addition. I dont rate him as an analyst but he is certainly a great T20 commentator and calls the game passionately.

That should hv happened from Season1 ..they were perhaps supposed to do it this year however due to time and logistics constraints they couldn’t do it.. any way better late than never !!!!

Commentary Thread: Sana Mir

I have been listening to her lately and though her style might not be very exciting, her insights and read on the game are better than most of her male counterparts . . .
I hope she continues to improve her commentating skills . . can represent Pak behind the mic globally

She isnt bad, She is pretty decent and can improve.

Waqar Younis was just terrible today. Half of the time he had no idea whats happening and he likes to speak before he thinks

I think some of these gigs are about who you know not what you know.

Earlier today, female commentator Urooj Mumtaz also tested positive for Covid-19 and the authorities immediately took Covid-19 tests of all the commentators and presenters part of the league and restricted them to their rooms till the evening.

It must be noted that New Zealand commentator Danny Morrison also tested positive for the virus last week while Peshawar Zalmi's three players, Sohail Khan, Usman Qadir, Ben Cutting, and mentor Hashim Amla also became victims of the virus.

Legendary England batter David Gower has tested positive for Covid-19 before the Qualifier of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season seven.

According to sources, the 64-year-old is under isolation now. He didn't arrive at Gaddafi Stadium to commentate in the match between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars.

Is there a way that commentators can commentate from their hotel rooms?
