I wonder if PSL will allow player trades during the season? This is a thing in a lot of different sports like the NBA. A player can be traded by the team during the first few months of the season.

I think this would be an interesting dynamic to add to the PSL—and make it more exciting. For example, Mohammad Hasnain of the QG can be traded to the KK for Imran Tahir. Or Shan Masood of the MS can be traded to the PZ for Saim Ayub.

Teams could make trades and acquire players during the season to increase their likelihoods of making the playoffs.

It adds a bit of masala to the league and gives the franchises more leverage to play more competitive cricket, rather than “tanking” for higher draft picks for the further year.

They should add this. Trade players who haven’t played a single game for their franchises

Only challenge is that the bookies will not like this because they will not be able to bet on a lot of matches, because players will be able to play for a different team through the season.

This would be a great addition for a franchise league, as you said NBA have this and it's very successful in elevating the product and entertainment value.

I thought they had something like this in place where if a player hasn’t played a game for the franchise, they are eligible to be traded.

I could be mistaken though

They should defo add this, with the proviso that the player being traded hasn’t represented his current team.

For example, Quetta could trade Kernal Zahid (pacer) w: Karachi for Faisal Akram ( Chinaman). This helps both teams.

Another example, PZ trading Aamir Jamal to ISLU for Zafar Gohar.

Surprisingly, it looks like there is a trade window. But it is hilariously bad. Which is why I wasn’t aware it existed.

The rules are as follows:

- Only those players who have not played any match for their team will be eligible for trades during this window.
- Both teams and the player(s) in question must agree to any potential transfer.
- Trades will be within the same category.
- Each team shall be allowed a maximum of two trades.
- The total number of active members in a squad shall remain unchange

It has a lot of rules which the NBA doesn’t have. Like ability to trade players that haven’t played. The trade being done by consent of the player. Trade must be the same category. Only a 1 for 1 trade.

Why so many rules!? Why is consent of players required?

IPL has had it for players who have played less that 3 matches till midseason(iirc) for years but it seldom gets used.

Many reasons but few are,

1) Teams don't want to bolster their direct competitors. For example, Mumbai didn't pick strong spinners in last auction and they wanted one in midseason trade. But teams didn't want to strengthen them despite having surplus spinners.

2) Teams aren't that cash strapped. They don't need to loan out players to save wages.

3) Unlike football, majority of cricket franchises aren't into talent development. They don't care if their bench player isn't getting game time.

This happened in PSL 7 but no indication this year.

They normally do have a window for teams to trade players.

I'd be surprised if they don't this time around too.
