Misbah-ul-Haq has expressed hope that the Pakistan Super League will do the job of acting as a pipeline for talent to help shore up the immediate future of cricket in the country.

“PSL is an ideal platform for the development of the players, just like the other leagues. So we hope that all these emerging players show their potential and get groomed as it’s very, very necessary for the future of Pakistan cricket,” Misbah told Wisden India on Thursday(February 16).

Misbah mentioned Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Asghar as the finds of the first edition of the PSL – Nawaz, the left-arm spinner, has already played all three formats of international cricket, while Hasan has turned out in One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals. Asghar, the left-arm spinner, hasn’t yet played a game for Pakistan but has been in the fringes of selection.

“Hasan is now playing regularly for Pakistan and has improved a lot after being spotted in the first PSL, so are Nawaz and Asghar. And that’s good sign,” said Misbah, whose Islamabad United won the first PSL title in 2016.

Misbah also singled out Islamabad colleagues Shadab Khan, the legspinner, and Ammad Butt, the right-arm pacer, as among the most exciting prospects on the horizon. “We have Shadab and Ammad as our emerging players and both have good talent. The best thing about these two players is that they not only good bowlers but also excellent fielders,” said Misbah.

Shadab, 18, hails from Mianwali, Misbah’s hometown, and besides hitting a brilliant 132 also took 14 wickets in two ‘Tests’ for Pakistan A in Zimbabwe last year. Ammad was sent to England for the one-off Twenty20 International in Manchester last year but didn’t get in to the XI.

Misbah hoped all the exciting youngsters got proper chances to showcase their potential. “If the emerging players get full chance they will get groomed, which is very important. I have high hopes with the PSL,” he said.

No stars except the usual suspects...not as exciting as last year.
Of course the likes of Sharjeel and Latif hasnt helped.

Misbah should give more opportunities to Amad Butt. I believe he should be invested in considering the dearth of fast bowling all rounders in Pak. This is the time to walk the talk.

Coming from Misbah? :)))

Couldn't keep Amad in the XI for two consecutive games.

Didn't even mention Talat.

PSL is an ideal platform for the development of 35+ years young players.

May be, if PCB forces every team to play at least 3 to 4 U23 players in every match; otherwise Imran Khalids & Zulfi Babars will enjoy the platform til mid 40s

no, so far it's more like "It's the ideal platform for the the retired players to earn money":ghalib

Thats why Misbah bhai is playing Ammad Butt and Hussain Talat in every match.

Hahah this is funny coming from Misbah. Dropped Ammad Butt after giving him 2 overs (in which he bowled very well in the second over against destructive batting). Hasn't given a game to Hussian Talat yet and replaced fixers with a 40 year Riffat. I hope Shadab gets a second game, but since he didn't pick up a wicket and knowing Misbah, Shadab may have played his first and last game in PSL 2.

These sweet words don't mean much. There's no proper quality young talent in the pipeline that can succeed at international level.

The only ones were Asghar and Hassan Ali.

This PSL we haven't found anyone good enough.

Shadab had one good match from what I've heard. Yet to see him though, but it's better to be skeptical by default when it comes to hyped up youngta beauties of ppers.

hmm, the Pyjama party league is now a development platform?? :79:

You can only say that about the hypocrisy of those who were jealous of ipl.

Misbah never was. He even played in the ipl smacking sixes all around. And he has always said these leagues develop players.

Nonsense. PSL is full of the same old oldies hafeez, misbah, afridi, sohail, maliks who refuse to retire and cling on despite series of failures. Not seen a single young exciting player as most teams are full of TTFs of national team and rejectees from world over.

Funny coming from a man who's hardly allowed a youngster to develop in the team and instead opts for 40 year old friends.

Not many young players are played either actually. 5 teams are forced to play 5 young players, of them Shadab & Hasan Khan has done decent, while Irfan Jr. isn't that good. Apart from that, Amad got couple of overs & no team gave any chance to young batsmen - in fact didn't even pick any young batsman. PSL has become a farce in this regard as the age distribution is polarized - 1 or 2 U23 players & rest are over 30 - there is hardly any local player between the prime age of 23 to 29 unless they are established stars like Babar, Amir, Hasan, Sharjeel, Imad ...

If not unveiling new talents, at least PSL could have been a great source of income for players like Saud, Saad, Hamza, Fahim, Hammad, Zia, Ehsan & many others as a motivation to focus on the game, had they been part of the squad. Instead, it's the pensioner bunch like Ajmal, Gul, Zulfi, Khalid .... are given contracts & they are enjoying the match fee as well. It's not justified to call Rifatullah, considering lack of talent - as if Rifat was Rickey 10 years back.

No PL/SL is a good platform to find talent; but IPL, BPL at least had been a great motivation for young players at least from monetary terms - PSL is providing some cheap money for local almost retired cricketers with no future, while it's more frustrating for missed out young players.

i amgiving u my personal example...i am a young trainee doctor in kpk..khyber pakhtunkhwa..my government is giving me decent money so i am a bit relaxed and working hard and studying for an abroad exam which costs much but my salary will provide me assistance in solving that problem up to some extent. so i may get the training abroad and will come back a relatively better doctor after 5 years ..same is the case with these youngsters .if they are paid enough money then they will avail quality physical and mental training facilities ,mentally rlaxed due to financial security and there game will improve...am i right??/

US$ 25K is lots of money for a 23 years old player to focus 70 hours/week on his game. It's just an additional bank balance for Gul or Ajmal ...........

thats what i mean to say...give these youngsters chances and they will improve their game instead of giving it to bozargs like ajmal and guldozers....otherwise it means nothing to make them play domestic for no finacial rewards and gets rotten....

Somehow Misbah is in joking mood!!!!! Most likely he will be retain as captain for upcoming series

Thanks for the correction, but looking at some old posts, I was basically talking about some posters here.

But anyway good to know :)
