LONDON: England batsman Liam Livingstone has played in both the Pakistan Super League and the Indian Premier League. He was one of the foreign players in this season of the PSL which was the first to be played entirely in Pakistan.

Livingstone said that the atmosphere in the stadium due to fans is what sets the PSL and IPL apart from the rest of the T20 leagues.

"The fans, players and supporters all live and breathe cricket, that's what sets the PSL and IPL apart from the others," he was quoted as saying in the BBC's Doosra podcast.

Livingstone, who played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and for Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL this year, said that it was special to play cricket in places that have not hosted live cricket for a while in Pakistan.

"It was great to play in places that hadn't seen live cricket for a while, such as Multan, where the atmosphere was unbelievable," he added.

"I think the stadium holds around 30,000 but I'm adamant there were about 50,000 there. They cheer for anything and don't support any particular team," he said.

Both the PSL and IPL had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The PSL was already underway when the pandemic started causing a global crisis and interfering with the cricket calendar. It triggered an exodus of foreign players after which the Pakistan Cricket Board initially decided to shorten the knockout stage of the tournament. Eventually, the tournament itself was postponed.

The IPL meanwhile was scheduled to start on March 29 but it was postponed initially to April 15. With the lockdown in India extended to May 3, the IPL has since been indefinitely postponed.

Not sure if Livingstone wants an IPL contract - ever! But lets take his statement at face value and say that he isnt the only one who has said that, there must be some truth in it.

In terms of bowling, PSL is definitely better than IPL. Especially the quality of fast bowling. It is at a different level.

In terms if batting however, IPL is also at another level but that could be due to better pitches in India and plenty of spinners and pie chuckers.

Batting-wise, IPL is better.

Bowling-wise, PSL is better (fast-bowling specially).

Are you implying bowling attack of Shaheen Afridi, Hasnain, Wahab, Amir, Jordan, Samit Patel, Cutting is better than Rabada, Bumrah, Starc, Cummins, Malinga, Boult, Southee, Rashid Khan etc?

Lets be honest, If we keep the India bias aside there is absolutely nothing in PSL which is even remotely close let alone better than IPL. And its the case not only with PSL but all leagues around. IPL is just a vastly superior league because it buys best T20 players who are in their peak years by paying them huge price.

You can't justify the point by naming a couple of international players. If you compare the depth in bowling the PSL squads have at their disposal compared to IPL, there is a notable difference.

agreed but honestly I have have never watched ipl in my life so I cant really comment on the cricketing side of the ipl but how's the local bowling talent in Ipl cause in psl there always 2 or 3 world class emerging fast bowlers in the tournament

I have not read anything where he says quality wise its on par with IPL,yeah he said crowds in both of these countries set them apart from rest of the world

I think PSL fasting bowling has a slight edge but the standard of spin bowling in PSL is pretty poor, so pretty much even overall.
I agree the batting in the IPL is def better

Cricket wise they may be similar, but in terms of entertainment and overall package, IPL is light years ahead that is unfortunately a fact

The only big difference between the 2 leagues is the quality of overseas players. Otherwise the two leagues are quite same. Both are a festival for their respective countries and both are financially very helpful for the boards.

The more peaceful Pakistan gets the better it will be for PSL. PCB has to work on better stadiums, better home/away scheduling and most importantly a better window for PSL as all the major teams are busy in International assignments, during February/March.

Imagine Warner and Smith batting for Peshawar Zalmi against Starc or Rabada in a packed Arbab Niaz Stadium (which will soon have a capacity of 35,000). It would be deafening there as Peshawar has one of the most passionate crowd in entire Pakistan.

A psl team has atleast 4 international quality bowlers while ipl team has 2 internaional quality and 3 garbage bowlers.

I think this myth of better bowling has been busted after PSL moved to Pakistan. Sides haven't even been able to defend 190+ totals against very average batsmen

Why is this Liam Livingstone still fluffing around in these T20 leagues? He looked a spitting image of Kevin Pietersen and should be playing in the England sides proper.

IPL has Indian, Australian, England superstars. There's no contest. PSL is fun to watch too as the games are close.

I think mental sanity and basic cricket intelligence are also valid criteria when it comes to picking players for the national team.

I am not sure how Livingstone fares on these fronts after coming up with such bongiyaan.

I don’t know. IPL fast bowlers win Test series in Australia. PSL fast bowlers get humiliated like no tomorrow.

How would you rate an attack of Natarajan, Siraj and Thakur who won a test and series against Aus in Aus vs. some of our attacks in bygone years to include Waqar, Shoaib, M.Akram etc.

I presume you meant Wasim Akram and not Mohammad Akram?

I meant M akram as he toured Oz a few times. We all know Wasim Akram is an undisputed legend.

Poor bowler who wouldn’t even get on the Indian bench today. Would still be better than the likes of Naseem though. Pakistan could use someone of his height.
