Quetta Gladiators [176/7] defeat Multan Sultans [154/10] by 22 runs; their first win of PSL6

"Remember the name" will have to deliver now for MS

Husnain atlast getting wickets he deserves, after so many close calls this tournament.

Ridiculous from Khushdil and Brathwaite.

Why would you target Hasnain?

Not convinced with this Zahid Mahmood Guy

He isn’t going to deliver us a World Cup in India

congragulation to quetta on becomming the first team to win batting first.

Was he not legend in IPL?

Never was. He used to expensive in IPL too. At least he had pace and more accuracy 5 years ago when he was playing IPL. Now he is just collecting his retirement money in IPL.

So they key to winning matches while defending a total is holding on to your catches?! Who would have thought???

And as soon as I say that, Ben Cutting drops the hat trick ball!!!

QG still in the tournament and so is MS but will have to win most of their upcoming games

Cutting has been disappointed with bat, ball and now takes away the hatrick from his team mate.

Well done Sarfaraz. Finally a target has been defended. Second half of league will be more exciting after this match.

:14: :14:

QG has showed couple of spinners can be useful.

But he missed many with good balls dropping in no mans land or dropped catches in the tournament. Haris actually jas more in his bowling but he loses it often, qhereas Hasnain has better control.

Hasnain may bowl 150 plus but he lacks a fast bowler's instinct.
There is no presence and attitude in his bowling. That translates into eventual performance as well.

Your opinion he already looks very good and that is with only two fc games and a very young age.

Thought it would never happen, well done Quetta for breaking the total defending jinx

He has talent but he needs to express himself and rate himself much higher.
He is too nice and doesn't aim for wickets.

The way he bowled at Tahir at the end is an example of that. He was content with the latter just missing and scoring dots.
Shaheen, Hasan and even Rauf would have made sure they get him out and add him to the wickets tally.

I'm shocked! Somebody please pinch me! The team batting first has finally won a match in the ongoing PSL, and the team do achieve this impossible task is Quetta!

Nawaz`s brilliant batting in the last over of their innings ended up being the most crucial passage of play, perhaps. Congratulations to Quetta!

Good stuff Quetta and Sarfraz. I may not be a huge Sarfraz fan anymore but he is probably the best in Pakistan when it comes to chocking sides with spin. This was a well-deserved win for Quetta.

As for Multan, very disappointing to see no support for Rizwan. He's a very good batsman, but he cannot score 177 himself. There's a lot of room for improvement; however, they will have to settle for #5 this year and build a better team for the next season.

A sparkling 81 on HBL Pakistan Super League debut by Usman Khan and Qais Ahmad’s brilliant three for 21 scripted Quetta Gladiators’ first win of the season, which came against Multan Sultans on Wednesday.

In the 14th fixture of the tournament at the National Stadium, Quetta Gladiators also became the first team to defend a total in the ongoing season as they restricted Sultans to 154 to win the contest by 22 runs.

Mohammad Rizwan, who scored his third half-century of the season, and James Vince provided Sultans a solid start with a 63-run opening stand.

Their partnership ended on the last ball of the eighth over, thanks to Qais’ leg-break that induced a leading edge off Vince’s bat that was safely caught by Sarfaraz Ahmed behind the stumps.

The dismissal tightened the screws on the Sultans batsmen as their next three wickets fell for 27 runs coming from 29 balls. Qais accounted for two of them – Shan Masood (one off four) and Rilee Rossouw (three off eight) – while Sohaib Maqsood’s stay at the crease was curtailed to only four balls by Mohammad Nawaz’s left-arm spin.

With Sultans needing over two runs required per ball for a win, Khushdil Shah (19 off 12) stepped inside the boundary rope. He contributed 37 runs with Rizwan, who stroked 66 off 50 and smashed seven fours and two sixes.

Needing 61 off the last five overs, Sultans crumbled under pressure. They lost Khushdil, Carlos Brathwaite (four off three), Rizwan and Sohail Khan (eight off five) for 12 runs in nine balls – all fours dismissals shared equally between Zahid Mahmood and Mohammad Hasnain.

Their last two wickets fell in the last over as Gladiators won the contest with two balls spare.

Gladiators’ Usman stroked as many as 10 fours and three sixes to set the platform for his team to set an imposing total. The 25-year-old played a pivotal role in knitting his side’s first 50-plus opening stand of the season, a feat that he achieved in the company of 18-year-old Saim Ayub, who scored 23 off 18, stroking two fours and a six.

After the pair added 69 runs, Usman stitched a 53-run stand with Faf du Plessis (17 off 17), putting the team on track to what seemed to be a 200-plus score. But, back to back dismissals of Usman, who got LBW off Imran Tahir, who had also accounted for Saim, while reverse sweeping, and du Plessis broke the momentum as Gladiators slipped to 122 for three without any addition of a run.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, the Gladiators’ captain who came into this contest at the back of two breezy half-centuries, albeit in losing causes, fell for three and Azam Khan (17 off 10) followed him back in the 18th over with 155 on board.

Nawaz (20 off 10) stroked Shahnawaz Dhani for three fours in the final over, which added 14 runs to Gladiators’ total, to take them to 176 for seven.

Shahnawaz took three wickets for 44.

Scores in brief:

Quetta Gladiators 176-7, 20 overs (Usman Khan 81, Saim Ayub 23, Mohammad Nawaz 20; Shahnawaz Dhani 3-44, Imran Tahir 2-29)

Multan Sultans 154 all out, 19.4 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 66, James Vince 24; Qais Ahmad 3-21, Mohammad Hasnain 2-34, Zahid Mahmood 2-39)

Player of the match – Qais Ahmad (Quetta Gladiators)

Unusually there was a lot of spin on offer and quetta played three of them for some bizarre reason thus the win
