Quetta Gladiators defeat Islamabad United by five wickets in a thriller in Rawalpindi in PSL 5

Cuttings was good.

But Amad Butt and Faheem kept feeding him in the slot. More blame goes to these two mediocre bowlers pretending to be allrounders.

Lol, Islamabad players looked like rabbits in headlights.

They’re definitely missing Dean Jones.

Continue with Misbah, and Islu will be competing with Lahore for the last spot in no time. Great game nevertheless.

Man of the match for me are the curators

Quality Pitch, even Multan pitch was excellent

A very good game and great end to the game the difference was naseem shah

Islu beaten twice by Quetta

Both times they had the game in their hand. Very poor leadership. You can tell Shadab has no control and Misbah often comes out during the timeout and forces his rubbish plans.

Islamabad will learn this year the hard way.

Islamabad bowling is not up to the mark.Musa is quick but bounce and swing is needed.Faheem and Amad are average bowlers they kept bowling in the slot and Cutting took full advantage.Safi the spinner was good though.

Defending champions Quetta Gladiators produced a stunning run-chase to defeat Islamabad United by five wickets in the first-ever HBL Pakistan Super League match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Gladiators’ victory has given them the top-spot in the HBL PSL 2020 points table. They have won three out of their four games and have six points after the end of the ninth match of the tournament.

Set a stiff 188-run target, Quetta Gladiators were helped past the target by an unbroken 57-run partnership between man-of-the-match Ben Cutting (42 not out, 17 balls, two fours, four sixes) and Mohammad Nawaz (25 not out, 20 balls, three fours).

Cutting made the difference by scoring 17 runs off the 18th over of the Gladiators’ chase when they needed 33 to win at the start of the over. Rumman Raees conceded a mere five runs in the penultimate over to bring United back in the hunt but Cutting finished the game off through back-to-back sixes off Amad Butt’s final over to take his side over the line with two balls spare.

The foundation of the Gladiators’ chase was laid by opener Jason Roy (50 off 38) and captain Sarfaraz Ahmed (33 off 20). Gladiators were in a spot of bother when Sarfaraz was dismissed by Faheem Ashraf, which left Gladiators needing 55 off the last 29 balls. However, Cutting’s heroics helped them secure a vital victory which has taken them to the top of the six-team table.

Ahmed Safi with two wickets for 17 runs in three overs was the pick of the United bowlers.

Earlier, Sarfaraz won the toss and opted to field first. United got off to a blazing start as Luke Ronchi took 11 runs off the first over bowled by Sohail Khan. His innings though was nipped in the bud by fast-bowler Naseem Shah who demolished his stumps with a fast yorker on the first ball of the second over.

Naseem then took another prized wicket when he breached Dawid Malan’s (10) defences sending the stumps flying again. Colin Munro was the third wicket to fall, he went after a quickfire 31 off 20 balls (two fours, three sixes) leaving United at 56 for three in the sixth over.

United skipper Shadab Khan who scored a scintillating fifty in United’s win over Lahore Qalandars last Sunday, scored 39 off 25 balls (three fours, two sixes). The right-hander added 76 runs in 50 balls with Colin Ingram for the fourth wicket.

Ingram held the innings together as United lost quick wickets at the other end. The left-hander stayed at the crease till the end of the United innings to propel them to 187 for seven.

Ingram scored 63 off 40 balls (six fours, two sixes) to register his first fifty for United in his third match of his first-ever season with the franchise.

Naseem with figures of two for 23 in four overs was the pick of the Gladiators bowling line-up.

Scores in brief

Islamabad United 187-7, 20 overs (Colin Ingram 63 not out, Shadab Khan 39, Colin Munro 31; Naseem Shah 2-23, Tymal Mills 2-34)

Quetta Gladiators 190-5, 19.4 overs (Jason Roy 50, Ben Cutting 42 not out, Sarfaraz Ahmed 33; Ahmed Safi 2-17, Faheem Ashraf 2-46)

Result: Quetta Gladiators win by five wickets

Let's observe a moment of silence for those who kept taking pot shots against Sarfaraz throughout the match calling him names and 'best since IK'.

Sarfaraz and company sure showed Misbah and his fans their level.

Sad times for likes of Hasan123.... May Allah grant him and people like him sabar o tahammul to bear this humiliation.

Sarfaraz - best since IK.

What a game of cricket, what batting by Cuttings! A pure joy to watch. Really enjoyed today's match.

Can someone explain what Ahmed Shehzad was doing there today? An absolutely horrible shot! What was the need to go for a big shot having already hit two sixes in the over? I would've put the blame entirely on his shoulders had Quetta lost today.

What a game of cricket and congrats to the capt who like always contributed with the fighting knock and his fellow team members who played with so much courage and never panicked at the end.

I wonder what Sarfaraz does with the team that turns ordinary players into super stars. They are the only team whose bowling is led by in experienced unddr 19 kids and an emerging player in the batting. The way he shows confidence, gives freedom and space to his players is commendable and must be appreciated.

Sarfraz for all his shortcomings is obviously a much better captain than Misbah

Islamabad is the best team in PSL it bats till no. 9 nad has stacked foreign performers at the cost of local talent still it has lost 2 matches and the one it won against Qalandars was also a loss if not for Qalandar's stupid decision making.

Some will try to divert this against Faheem and Shadab. They did what they can but if you check the field placements and the bowling in last overs compared to how Quetta's bowlers Naseem and Hasnain bowled you'll see the problem. Islamabad was trying to save runs instead of going for wickets. Faheem was bowling similar lengths that would've got him success against local players, no one [from IU management] helped or prepared him or others how to bowl at Australian T20 specialists.

This needs to be asked to the IU owner who made Misbah head coach and repeated the same mistake Karachi Kings owner did.

Since few months a lot of Pak cricket fans have been banging against the PCB wall and Wasim Khan decision on making Misbah chief selector/coach in the most stupid manner. Even if the best of Pakistan play Misbah's defensive mentality and non-preparation against others will sink them to the bottom.

Another defeat for Karachi and your mocking other teams. Also it's must be very sad that Sarfraz has been booted out in all formats and you have to support Misbah. The man you have an agenda against. :))) :)))

You pipe when 1 good thing happens. You will be back in hiding soon.

Just watch when your best captain since IK fails and KK continue to fail.

Ben Cutting playing a true gem of a knock makes Sarfraz a great captain LOL. No wonder our cricket is in the dumps when you have people celebrating a team winning a T20 that had nothing to do with the captain.

Yes... because Ben Cutting is the constant in Quetta's brilliant record across all seasons.. Nothing to do with the captaincy at all.

I mean for yesterday's game not the whole 4 seasons.

Performing in a T20 league doesn't make you a great captain. Other than us Pakistan fans no one cares about the PSL.

During the match you kept barking hoping that IU wins so that you bark somemore against Sarfaraz. Well after the humiliation you went into hiding.
