Babar Azam on Ten Sports after Day 4 of the Karachi Test vs SL:

"We try to get better each and every match. You always practice and try to apply that. Even if the form is good, you need to have the concentration"

"Our plan was to bat till lunch. When I got my 50, I did some calculations to reach a hundred (laughter). I wanted to make sure I hit boundaries in at least one over"

"I use social media less on tour. During a match, you need to concentrate a lot and spend 5 days that way so I try to stay away from these things. I focus on punctuality, eating and sleeping on time. When I get them then I do give time to the fans but after the match, I try to go to my room and relax and give time to my family and friends"

"Obviously there is a lot of change in life after becoming a professional cricketer. You have to be on top of everything, you need to know how to utilise yourself and that comes with experience"

"I don't feel pressure because of all the attention. If I have responsibility, I give my best and leave everything else aside and focus on that and give my best"

"My favourite batsman has always been AB de Villiers"

"My favourite innings was the World Cup innings against New Zealand, quite a lot has changed after that because it was a big event and we won the match. That gave me a lot of confidence and taught me about building innings and how to handle pressure"

"Sometimes you get to know about being close to some goals, achievements and milestones and that sometimes stays in the back of your mind"

"I am always thinking of each match as my last match, if I do well then I will play the next one. I keep trying to improve more and more. That helps you to learn how to build innings, how to win matches, convert 50s into 100s etc. Often, I look at my previous innings and look at the negative points, why did I play a certain shot or why is my footwork that way so I try to fix any shortcomings"

Babar is best talent of this generation from PK and is close to the top 5. His next challenge is to consistently score big runs in the 1st innings of tests.

Called it in the match thread during that innings that this will be the career changing innings for Babar. That innings gave him the confidence that he has enough ability to change the matches on his own. Everybody knew but to actually be able to do it changes the perspective completely.

Good discipline, focussed, hard-working lad who knows what's good for him.

And some felt that he would go down the Akmal route.

Glad that he knows that like many of us said NZland WC match was the turning point of him in terms of resolving his long standing issue of an agressive gear.

Babar was criticized a lot before that game for not being a match-winning player that can play till the end. It was less about the century and more about him being there at the crease until the last ball in a WC match.
