Aus-Pak for me. You cant compete with bowling lineup of Wasim, Mcgrath, Imran, Warne and Saqlain as this is an all conditions attack while rest have just one quality spinner which would struggle in spin friendly surfaces and batting is also pretty decent

I may be biased but a team with Imran, Wasim, Warne, Ponting, Gilli and Mcgrath is tough to beat.

I'll take the Australia and West Indies 11. Viv,Lara, and Ponting in the same line up could chase any score. Also that bowling line up has more than enough quality to pick up wickets.

Why are Lee/Saqlain ahead of Waqar ?
Replace Lee by Waqar.
In that case, Wasim, Waqar,McGrath, Imran, Warne. That's a dream attack.

Why adulterate what’s already by far the greatest ODI line up anyway?

Australia cover every position from 1-11 with ATG level match winning players.

They don’t need anyone.

India Aus XI

Tendu, Kohli and Ponting score big.
Gilly scores fast.
2 ATG finishers in Bevan and Dhoni.
ATG lower order hitter in Kapil.
3 ATG ODI bowlers in McGrath, Warne and Lee.
Peak Starc who is as good as any ATG.
Economical bowler in Kapil.
2 part timers in Bevan and Sachin.
Ultimate wk in Gilly.

12th man can be Kumble on turners.

All bases covered.

Most complete team.

Change my mind. :D

Batting till number 10.

Starc and Lee can slog too. Warne is steady.

7 bowling options.

It’ll be AUS-WIN combo - that combination is picked from two nations winning 7 of the 12 WCs & making 3 more Finals.

I’ll make a little change though

Gilli+
Desi Haynes/Mark
Viv
Lara
Ponting
*Lloyd
Symonds
Warne
DK Lillee/Mike Holding
Garner
McGrath
—————-
Greg, Lee, Strac

This team doesn’t need a saviour like Bevan at 7, so he & Hussi misses out.

Couldn’t find a place for the 2nd best No. 3 from this 2 nations - Dean Jones, even for squad. That should tell how good the team could be.

Well 1st part of your statement is true for aus ind combination also, along with 1 more champions trophy

True, but IND was never such dominant winners like WIN or AUS.

But India is not competing with Australia here. Just WI.

But I get your point. WI were world beaters. They defeated Australia, England and Pakistan regularly in wc's.

India just won WC's.

This! ATGs on all slots.

I will try to keep it as short as possible.

Cricket is not a linear game.

We can't say that an ATG XI will never face problems or require someone to bail them out. An inform Kyle Mills CAN run through an ATG lineup on a good day. It's not impossible at all.

A team which has immense depth and personnel with a wide variety of skills all complementing each other is a stronger team than a uni-dimensional team.

I will give you examples:

1. Australia needed Michael Bevan & Stuart Law in 1996 to rebuild thier innings after WI destroyed their top order. Without Bevan, there would have been SF victory.

2. The legendary 1999 Aus team AGAIN needed Steve Waugh & Bevan to rebuild their innings after SA reduced them to 60-4 in the SF. Without them, there was no world cup victory for them.

3. India in 2011 had probably the GREATEST ODI batting lineup ever assembled. Or atleast GREATEST in Asia.
Yet, it needed EVERY single one of the batsmen chipping in at a crucial period to win the WC. Take Raina for example.
Without Raina, there would be NO WC for India in 2011. Inspite of having Sachin, Sehwag, Gambo, Kohli, Dhoni and Yuvi....India needed a couple of crucial knocks by Raina in QF and SF to win the World Cup. Raina's impact in SF is criminally underrated. India could have crumbled and lost it easily but it was Raina who gave us a fighting chance.

4. Same way, CSK needed Badri (a slow scoring bat) to win against MI in a tricky knockout in 2012. CSK at that time was a very very strong team. CSK was reduced to 5-2. It was Badri who came, rebuilt the innings and departed at 60-3 in 9 odd overs which allowed Dhoni & Bravo and rest to have a go at MI and get to 150 which proved to be match winning. In a team FULL of hitters, it was Badri who played the most pivotal role in setting up the game for the hitters to take over.

5. Same with Kohli in 2011 WC. Newbie who was a flop almost throughout the WC. But played one of the MOST crucial knocks in the finals to take India from a precarious 23-2 to 100-3 which changed the game. Had SL got India to 40-4....they would have won for sure.

---

That is why I believe that even an ATG can benefit from 2 legendary finishers in Dhoni & Bevan.

I know some don't rate Bevan much but I believe he would have been a MONSTER in this era.

No batsman has scared me more than Bevan. The way he calculated the chase, manipulated fields, played with the tail and clinically executed his plans was simply breathtaking and scary at the same time. Just wow stuff.

Having him & Dhoni at the end along with an EXPLOSIVE bat like Kapil would give a team incredible depth and variety that other teams won't posses.

Definitely.

Aus-SL ODI XI:-

Jayasuriya(A/R)
Gilchrist (wkt)
Ponting
Sangakkara
de Silva
Bevan
Watson(A/R)
Warne
Starc
Murali
McGrath

Two destructive openers at top.

Australia-NZ
Gilchrist (wk)
Williamson
Ponting (c)
Taylor
Symonds
Bevan
Cairns(A/R)
Hadlee
Warne
Bond
McGrath

Solid team.I would have one change- Mark Waugh comes in place of Williamson. Lee and Starc missing out of XI explains the fast bowling options this team together will have.
