Asif Afridi defends 10 runs in the 20th over to help Shahid Afridi lift the trophy for Rawalakot Hawks
Rawalakot Hawks won the first edition of Kashmir Premier where they have beaten Muzaffarabad Tigers by 7 runs on Tuesday. (17 August 2021) Asif Afridi held his nerves in the final over where he had to defend just 10 in the last over while a brilliant half century of Kashif Ali helped Hawks post 169 on the board.
In the most important game of KPL 2021, Muzaffarabad Tigers elected to ball first after winning the toss but failed to get early wickets as Hawks post 53 by 6.4 overs when Mohammad Hafeez came up with a breakthrough, sending Umar Amin back on a LBW dismissal. Usama Mir bowled Amin's fellow opener Bismillah Khan without allowing them to add a run that brought two fresh batsmen of Rawalakot Hawks at the crease. Hussain Talat also threw a catch to Anwar Ali on a delivery of Mohammad Hafeez in the 9th over. Danish Aziz got out for just 4 while Sahibzada Farhan also could score just just 28 off 21. Kashif Ali played a fantastic knock of 54 off 28 with 5 fours and 3 sixes while Mohammad Imran Randhawa tried to help his side with his 17* off 12 balls. Rawalakot Hawks reached 169 in 20 overs while Usama Mir and Mohammad Hafeez got 2'2 scalps each.
To chase 170 runs target of Rawalakot Hawks, Muzaffarabad Tigers got off to a cracking start as team crossed 50 inside the first 6 overs. Mohammad Hafeez got out on the 4th delivery of the 6th over after scoring 29 off 21 while Zeeshan Ashraf produced another good partnership alongside Sohaib Maqsood for the 2nd wicket stand. He lost his wicket for 46 in the 9th over when Tigers had reached 88. He scored 46 off 26 with 4 fours and 4 maximums. After dismissing Zeeshan, Shahid Afridi came up with another breakthrough when he got rid of the dangerous Sohaib Maqsood who could score just 15. Hussain Talat sent Anwar Ali and Sohail Akhtar back towards the pavilion from the other end. On the 5th delivery of the 18th over, Talat got his 3rd wicket, this time dismissed Sohail Tanvir for 21, finishing his spell of 4 overs with the figure of 3 for 18. Mohammad Irfan Jr. bolwed an expensive second last over and Asif Afridi had just 10 runs to defend in the last over. Asif bolwed Inzamam for 12 off 5 and Usama Mir for a golden duck while Mohammad Wasim Jr, who remained off strike for most of the last over, got run out in the same over. I have caught snippets and referred to the standard of fielding a few days ago. It's not just bad, it's absolutely atrocious and if the PCB and WK can't see it, then we are going to go lower and lower in the rankings.

Kashif Ali and Zaman khan should get a chance in PSL and domestic. They looked good. Kashif Ali looks like a proper batsman with with good cricketing shots. And can also clear the boundary with ease.

KARACHI: Rawalakot Hawks’ skipper Shahid Afridi has been fined five percent of his match fees for a rude send-off to Muzaffarabad Tigers’ Zeeshan Ashraf in the Kashmir Premier League (KPL)’s final.
According to the details, the referee of the final contest Ali Naqvi questioned Afridi related to this matter and he accepted his mistake. Hence, a fine was imposed on the veteran cricketer.
It must be noted here that Zeeshan struck Afridi for a couple of boundaries which made him aggressive. Afridi bowled him and out sent him off rudely.
Later on, the Hawks bagged the inaugural edition of KPL by defeating the Tigers by seven runs after an exciting contest.

Terrible TV coverage
I was very disappointed with the TV coverage here in the UK.
The KPL was shown on GEO news channel with poor picture quality and we were bombarded with ads; there was more ad-time than cricket.
Further, the final presentation was not shown; they cut to a politics program.
To make KPL (and PSL) work and become popular they have to compete on the international stage with international standards. They need to:
1. Stop shoving ads down peoples' throats en mass. Showing a shampoo ad 500 times does not necessarily sell more shampoo. In fact people turn away and watch something else.
2. They need to show and focus more on cricket and less on commercials.
Remember that on the international stage there are wider choices, there are other cricket matches to watch in better quality. Can KPL/PSL compete with those broadcasts with this rubbish?
PCB and Pk broadcasters need to realise that the world has moved on and there aremany choices out there. You can shuv rubbish down our throat anymore and expect us to just accept it.

I am not sure what this has to do with the PCB?
This was the first edition of the tournament, clearly a lot to be learnt but it did its job of coverage.
Its a tournament orgnaised by PCB and they are responsible for handing out broadcast rights. They can demand reasonable and better standard coverage.

KPL is not organized by PCB. In fact, if you notice, none of the centrally contracted players were allowed to play in this tournament.

"Kashmir Premier League is a T20 league having credentials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (a permanent member of the International Cricket Council), the Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and the Government of Punjab, Pakistan. All these authorities have ensured their cooperation in this cause."
But lets not blame PCB and look at the bigger picture. If you launch this league, you want it to be successful. If you want it to be successful then you have to showcase it to the world using high standards.
Dare I say they have failed in this regards. Poor picture quality and excessive ads have driven away even the passionate of cricket fans. As far as I am concerned, watching KPL TV was torture. The cricket was good but TV coverage was very poor.

Five players of Champions Rawalakot Hawks are part of the Dream Team while Shahid Afridi will be the captain
Captain of the Champions Rawalakot Hawks, Shahid Afridi, will lead the "Dream Team" of KPL 2021 as a selection panel of former cricketers and experts has announced the best XI of the tournament. The selection panel includes Former Test Cricketer Amir Sohail, Former Test Cricketer and Director Cricket Operations KPL, Taimur Khan, Former Captain Pakistan women team, Sana Mir, and the match referee, Ali Naqvi.
Captain of Bagh Stallions, Shan Masood has been included in the "Dream Team of KPL 2021" as an opener alongside Muzaffarabad Tigers' wicket-keeper batsman and opener, Zeeshan Ashraf. Shan scored 254 runs in his 5 innings of KPL. He averages 50.80 and scored 3 half centuries. Stallions' skipper played with a strike-rate of 144.31 and his best score was 78.
