The widow of admirable Urdu writer Ashfaq Ahmed and a renowned thinker herself Bano Qudsia dies at the age of 88 on Saturday. She was born on November 28, 1928.

She has written numerous books in Urdu language in which her famous novel ‘Raja Gidh’ is amongst the most read novels in Urdu. Bano Qudsia was not well for the past few years.

She was hospitalised during the last ten days of her life. Her family includes three sons, their wives and grandchildren.

Her funeral has not been announced yet, however, the body has been transferred to her house in Model Town.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illahi Rajiyoon

Grew up in Karachi watching some of her dramas - big loss.

Inna lillahi wa inna illahi raji'oon

I always thought it was Qudsia Banu and not the other way round

An era comes to an end... So many memories from childhood. Ashfaq Baba Ji and Bano Apa 2 beautiful souls are no more with us.

RIP Bano Apa

Inna lillahi wa inna illahi raji'oon

And now she's with her soulmate. There are few marriages that could truly be labeled a match made in heaven, and hers and Ashfaq Sb's was one of those handful. Watching their interviews from years past, the love is so palpable, fortified by age and experience like the stereotypical fine wine.

I want to reread her "Raja Gidh" now, especially the passage where the protagonist Qayyum returns to his ancestral village, where his widowed father still lives. That passage ranks among the most haunting, spine-chilling I've ever read.

RIP.
