KARACHI: Head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq is extremely disappointed with the attitude of some Pakistani players, who shy away from proper training, lack discipline and don't adhere to professional standards.

Pakistan recently suffered a whitewash against Sri Lanka in the three-game T20I series at home and Misbah remains very disappointed at the way the top-ranked side capitulated to Sri Lanka in front of home crowds.

"What has disturbed Misbah the most in his first assignment as head coach and the chief selector is the reluctance of some players to follow directions of the management and do proper training to keep high fitness standards," one source said.

"He is unhappy that some players are just too relaxed and take training lightly and are not working on improving their cricket discipline. He has also not been encouraged by the attitude of captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed whom he feels shies away from taking responsibility when the chips are down."

Another source told PTI that Misbah was surprised by the behaviour of three senior players -- Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim, and Haris Sohail.

"Several times he felt they were making excuses to shy away from training and proper nets. He got the feeling they had some sort of excuse ready to go easy on their training," the source said.

"Batsman, Haris Sohail has developed a painful habit of making excuses for having some niggling problem or pain when asked to push himself in training.

"Another problem which confronts Misbah is that most of the players don't appear to have the cricket discipline to follow and execute plans on the field which are discussed in the dressing room."

The source said at one stage Misbah even felt that the decision of former head coach Mickey Arthur to keep left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz out of the team was understandable.

The long-serving former Pakistan captain is also not pleased that some players are also not displaying the required professional standards.

"Two players bluntly informed their team's head coaches that they would reach for the National T20 Championship matches in Faisalabad on the morning of the games. When Misbah came to know about this he told the head coaches they should be more firm with the players and ensure they joined their provincial team a day before the matches," one source said.

Misbah is also surprised that Arthur and the ex-support staff didn't pay enough attention to developing proper batsmen in all formats and didn't look beyond Babar Azam.

"It is not a very happy situation now and one can expect Misbah to take some hard decisions as chief selector while selecting the T20 and Test squads for the coming tour of Australia," he said.

Zahid Mahmood, a leg-spinner who in the past has been ignored by the selectors and coaches, is now under the consideration of Misbah who is not satisfied with the form of current team leggies, Yasir Shah and Shadab Khan.

Similarly, Misbah is also on the lookout for some new pace bowlers and youngster Naseem Shah is under his scanner for the Australian tour.

The source said it will also be interesting to see whether Misbah supports Sarfaraz Ahmed to continue as a Test captain when the board meets to decide on the captains for the Australian tour.

Bad boy attitude with ****** performance is becoming a trend now.

Well cannot deny haris sohail and imad does have fitness problems .Surprised to see wahab raiz name their.

Disappointed with haris Sohail he has so much to offer but his non serious attitude toward fitness is not allowing him to fulfill his potential

I’m not satisfied with the attitude of a beginner coach who fires the National Coach then steals his job.

I’m not satisfied with the attitude of a man who opened the bowling in Australia with Yasir Shah.

I’m not satisfied that he is too stupid to understand that when he combines the roles of Head Coach and Chief Selector, when he makes multiple leaks like this and the Azhar Ali captaincy one that we can all see that he is the leaker. Because he has wiped out all alternative leadership.

If this is true, Misbah may not be such a bad choice. It will take a couple of series though. The problem is that he picked Umar SHehzad and Faheem again, and that is a big no. If the leak about Azhar being captain is also true then that too is poor from him too. He's mixing some good statements in with some poor decisions.

Haris Sohail is known as the lazy one by the whole team. Wahab always looks loose and lazy. I have a strong feeling, and I'm sure many here do, that Sarfaraz is going to get sacked before the Aussie tour. He isn't even captaining his domestic side and his performances are horrible.

Zahid Mahmood's t20 stats are impressive, but his List A and FC stats are poor. I think Shadab might be worth keeping in Tests for now, but he should be replaced by Zahid in t20is. Shadab has done decently in tests (he's played in unfavourable conditions) and his batting is good in test match cricket too which gives him a big advantage, especially on away tours.

But he recalled UA and Ahmed Shezad both who have a terrible record on and off the field!

Its very simple, players with issues should not be selected. He has all the power, stop complaining and act.

More often than not the Pakistan players are at fault for their attitude and work ethic, but in this case I have to sympathise for the players. Even though they are mediocre, they don't deserve a failed tactician who is unqualified taking up the Coaching post and also happens to hold no experience whatsoever.

Misbah's appointment is so bad,I'm sure Pakistan would be better off without a coach.

I'll believe only when I see some action.

So far Misbah has been appalling with both his selections and strategies, going for TTFs immediately and not banking on youngsters at all, despite Sri Lanka being the very first series after World Cup, which is normally an ideal time for inducing fresh blood in the team.

To be honest Misbah never had any eye for talent or will never be. All tis talk is to bluff people plus this Zahid guy is mediocre in Test but Misbah considering him to replace Yasir. he will never look someone young with good prospect it has to be over 30 for him.
Then why not bring our friend Zulfi at least he is far ahead of Zahid Mahmood?

It's baffling to see the hate against Misbah in Pakistan. The Indians don't hate pakistanis to the extent pakistanis hate Misbah. The guy has just taken over the charge. He is the one who led Pakistan to glory and some sort of respect in the most turbulent times. He is the one who is respected all but Pakistanis. Shame on people who hate him so blindly. May be because he is an educated gentleman with a vision that bothers the illiterate ones . I want to ask the fools blindly cursing him what wrong has he done to your nation, is he a traitor??
Take it easy if he won't yeild results for the nation he would be shown the door and someone else would replace him. His tenure hasn't even started properly . To succeed one has to experiment and yes experiments can go wrong. This is the lack of options and talent that's an issue . Give him some time atleast a year, to judge him .

Lol. Glory what glory making us lose 2 world cups. He a shameless person who loves money doesn't care about our cricket if he did he would have rejected this job as he's clearly not qualified. A shameless person who kicked out mickey so he can get the job. Was begging every PSL team last year so he gets selected. Loves rubbish oldies like himself. Is allergic to youngsters and hates them with passion. Said Shaheen should play when he was arguably our best bowler in the world cup. What is there to like about this guy losing to Zimbabwe making us ranked 9 in the world. Playing at a grandad's age.

Lol Zahid mehmood. Haris with 1 leg and 1 hand will not embarrass us as shameless misbah did.

If he didnt like the players attitude, why would he bring back akmal and selfie who have had regular run in with the management regarding their attitudes.

Makes no sense.

Misbah needs to sack himself and then they appoint a more approriate coach like Mohsin Khan. Or perhaps Moin khan who can induct his amazingly fit son into the team

That's Misbah for you. Makes some good statements but makes poor choices and selections.

a new manager who has been brought in to manage must look at all of his As is options first. See if he can work with something that may prove a bit easier to solve a problem.

He did the right thing and now their future selection can be easily discounted due to this

That would be a good excuse if he had never delt with these two playera before.

It becomes a blatant lie when he has played with them and captained them and was also responsible for dropping them.

He didnt do anything but waste a series.

A blind man couldve told you they wouldve failed.

different when you are a captain..he had every right to assess his options.i would have encouraged him to do so. Good leaders and managers do this..it was an inconsequential series that was a good time to assess..he made the right choice..

Harris Sohail has a career threatening knee problem where the doctors already told him he is not going to have a long career. You can't impose a ruthless dehati training regime on him.

So pacer in Naseem Shah and leggy Zahid Mehmood are under scanner for selection.

That inconsequential series was a goodntime to assess youngsters. You really need to stop with this bias. Any other coach you wouldve torn him apart.

Now news is coming butt and fawad alam are in contention for the Aussie test series..

He had no excuse to pick akmal and selfie. It just shows that misbah doesnt trust young players, he needs to be sacked if this is true.

What and incompetent man manager.

Its these sorts of basics I think PCB/Wasim Khan had their eye on when making the call for Misbah - there can be no slacking, whatever your ability/stature. No other team does it and expects greater results.

Red ball contracts though in particular, for Pak players aren't great, salaries on a par with Ireland's Test players which, while not an excuse, has to be a factor.

Cook and Younis both scored big in 2016, both members of the 10K club, both 'go-to' men. One of them earned more test salary in one year than the other probably his entire career...

Two of the three players being mentioned i.e. Harris Sohail and Imad Wasim have documented knee problems, that affects your running in a big way. If the duo of Misbah, Waqar insist on imposing a D overtraining regime which was a feature of their partnership from 2014 to 2016, then it really is speechless stuff.

How much of the wouldn't (or shouldn't) Misbah already have known in his stint as captain? Why is it a big deal to learn all this as a coach?

This story has all the classic signs of being a leak...from the main character.

If misbah doesnt like mindset attitutude of players then drop them simple. Also if he doesnt think sarfaraz is a good captain like everyone else, then get rid again.

Look I was never a supporter of misbah getting appointed however if report is true
It’s music to my ears , players should be made accountable

Complaints against Wahab don't make sense, he still races in and bowls consistently faster than all the other bowlers we have and has the best stamina out of all the pacers we have where he can bowl 30 overs in an innings which he has done many times. This is also a guy who played and batted with a broken finger against Afghanistan and hit a match winning crucial quickfire 10 runs not out.

Not the signs of someone with attitude problems. Maybe he just works smarter rather dumbly harder

This. When it comes to Wahab Riaz, his fitness is up to task; better than expectations exceeded.

Misbah is also surprised that Arthur and the ex-support staff didn't pay enough attention to developing proper batsmen in all formats and didn't look beyond Babar Azam.

:))) Pot kettle black? How many batsmen did he develop in his long and uninterrupted reign as captain?

This guy is all talk!

Lol its like Misbah just woke up and realized this. Why was he silent all this while from 2017 onwards about this issue?

Does anyone care what he thinks?

How did he drop Iftikhar Ahmed after the 1st T20?

He’s the same as others in the past

Mickey also had complaints about his attitude to training.

Mickey also had complaints about his attitude to training.

Which doesn't add up, Wahab is the fittest pacer we have compared to the other committed to training pacers who still run out of steam in their second and third spells.

Maybe Wahab trains smart rather than dumbly and in a dehati manner

Hey just a thought. If Indians like him so much than why don’t they vouch for him to be a couch? Surely he is better than there Shastri.

Who is this source ? And if true why is misbah keeping these players ?

Don’t like the way players are being thrown under the bus here. This has the potential to sow discord between the ranks.

It was awful the way hapless Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal were treated like some sort of freak show. They were put out for the first two games in a blaze of glory only to be booted soon after.

Exactly, this is going to create a lot of insecurity in the team and the players are now going to be playing for their spots rather than the team knowing full well 1-2 failures and they will be out. If Misbah believed in AS, UA, he should have backed them all the way and trusted his decision making and strategic planning, dropping them from the final T-20 only showed what a weak character he is who has no spine to stand up to the press, ex cricketers, fans etc

Misbah is also surprised that Arthur and the ex-support staff didn't pay enough attention to develop

This is some next level petty b**chin I tell you! You yourself as a captain and coach can't think beyond the likes of Malik, Hafeez, Akmals and Selfie, so now you sh*t on the coach that worked hard to develop our ONLY top quality batsman produced in the last decade!

Get rid of the dead wood, get rid of the trouble-makers, get rid of the bad apples.

Even if it means a tough few months and not so great results.

Misbah is right . Arthur the clown didn't bother testing any new test batsmen and kept playing Asif Ali in t20. Arthur also picked Malik, Hafeez and even picked Shehzad and Akmal at times too.

Babar is good but he's not a proper test batsmen so even can't be considered 'best batsmen in last decade" - no , his batting in the real format of cricket, tests, is very poor (I think it will improve though).

Younis was a better batsman than Babar from the last decade. Misbah in tests too. Even Azhar Ali in tests.

Exactly, hopefully misbah can make those tough decisions in order to improve the team culture.

And this applies to the young players as well, who think they already are legends.

Agree with every word here. Spot on!

I always find Indians have fake praise for Misbah. Disingenuous bunch I must say!

With that all the circus going on under Misbah's watch, I think he should play the Joker in the sequel :))

Pakistan were NRR away from qualifying for the WC semi's a few months ago in one of the most competitive tournaments ever.

Now Mickey has gone and we are in full fledged panic mode openly insulting the same three players who were absolutely instrumental in whatever success Pakistan has had recently.

This country does not yet have the education to function efficiently by themselves. There is always unnecessary politics, infighting and ego protection.

Like it or not. We NEED educated Westerners in lead roles within our cricketing system.

Our test team is not good. And test cricket is the real cricket. So it's important that we improve in tests. That's why I was so glad Mickey left and Misbah came.

It really is appalling but that’s the name of the game on this forum. You have your typical propaganda groups that will keep shoving players down your throat even when it’s obvious the players are ttf (I.e Akmal mafia). Or the likes who will blindly support a player just because of where they come from. This is our culture unfortunately.

Do you blame them?

Some of these guys are so injury prone, take Sohail

It he gets injured he'll be out the side for years and replaced by misbahs friends
Hafeez
Malik
Azhar
Shafiq

You earne respect by your own action. Misbah doesn't qualify to be the coach in first place , why would players respect him and listen to him.

So in classic Imran Khan style of government, all blame is being put on the last government (Arthur in this case for all the misdoings lmao)

No surprise that Sarfaraz hides from responsibility lol.

The players with poor attitude towards training should be dropped. It doesn’t set a good example that you can not perform in training deliberately and still be selected.

The Pakistan cricket board (PCB) on Wednesday denied speculated rift between some players and head coach Misbah Ul Haq over lack of discipline during training.

It was earlier reported by some news channels that Misbah Ul Haq has expressed disappointment with the attitude of some Pakistani players during the training session, including the captain of the team Sarfaraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim and Haris Sohail.

The Board, however, has strongly denied the claims, saying Misbah do not have any conflict with the players.

Pakistan recently suffered a whitewash against Sri Lanka in the three-game T20I series at home ground after which Misbah stated that the series loss against a second-string Sri Lanka has opened his eyes to the fact that there is something seriously wrong with the country’s cricket system.

Criticising a players does not mean there is a rift. The coach has to criticise, but he also has to help improve that player. Let's see if Misbah can do that.

I personally think a batsman should not be allowed to dictate the training regime for a fast bowler as they have no idea what it takes

Players probably are disinterested in making an effort, at same time they are probably wondering how misbahs been given a coaching role. Huge mess all round.
