[REPORT] Mohammad Amir planning to permanently settle down in UK

If you are old enough to be lured by the greed of illegal money, you are also old enough to understand the potential cost of getting involved such activities. Amir is responsible for what happened.

He was exposed based on stint that doesn’t prove he took money. The only thing that is given benefit of doubt is pressure on the youngster due to influence of captain. Money or not, captain has certain influence that can decide the fate of cricketers. That is how we lost many honest cricketers due to influence of Wasim
Akram given his background and his name on Qayyum report.

Cricketers live like kings in Pakistan, but there a few things money cannot buy. His wife is British so she may not be comfortable living in Pakistan, life security is better in the UK and the environment and weather is so much better etc. There are many reasons why UK is a better place to live than Pakistan even if you are rich.

Security reason is legit but that being said, his bread and butter is Pakistan. A cricketer with dual citizenship may find it hard to represent Pakistan. But for county, money is good and exposure is not.

Anyways bottom-line Amir is not the innocent clueless naive village idiot he was portrayed to be. Not in 2010 and not in 2019. Each and every decision he has taken in his career has been calculated and motivated by self interest.

His admission of guilt in the UK criminal court had nothing to do with genuine remorse and more to do with the advice from his lawyers that he was far better off admitting his guilt as he was officially still a minor in comparison to the other two suspects. Where was this guilt in the ICC tribunal in Doha in 2011 where he pleaded not guilty prior to the criminal trial in the UK?

Bottom line he has always been a cunning calculated operator and has his wits about him

It's something I think you'll see more cricketers do in the future. It's not ideal, but it's the player's choice.

If this is true, and is accepted to the IPL based on british passport, it will really create a commotion in the cricketing world. A guy who has fixed is preferred over his fellow Pakistani cricketers who haven't corrupted cricket. I don't think India will do it, and generally have a lower tolerance to welcoming back fixers than Pakistan does. But if they did, would be uproar.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did move, I'm sure times were tough in Pakistan when Amir was banned, he might have even felt in danger. In UK security is better.

I read in OP he is married in UK so why is this an issue? I mean every pakistani male who has a spouse in a Western country will move to it.
He can live there but can keep playing for Pakistan and have to travel to Pak whenever it is required. Really a non-issue this one.

PS! He will never play for England if someone fears that.

If he lives in England but plays for Pakistan, am sure most Pakistanis wouldn't have an issue with this.

Think Dhawan is in a similar situation for us (lives in Australia). It's hardly ever been mentioned as an issue.

Just googled Pak dual citizenship and apparently you need to be under 21. So don't think he can be both a UK and Pak citizen. Correct me if I'm wrong.

But if he ditches Pak citizenship to do the county circuit and gain a backdoor entry into the IPL, that would be despicable. I know a lot of Indians will be cheering him because they'd see it as an insult to Pakistan but it would still be a disgrace.

Surprising that most people living abroad themselves are questioning his decision. He can settle down anywhere he wishes but if he wants to play for PCT he will have to tour and train with the team. If he follows his duties with PCT then he can settle down anywhere he wants.

Even Shoaib Malik lives in Dubai iirc. So what's the big deal?

If amir applies for British citizenship and ditches PCT then one might have merit in calling him selfish. But then again it will be his decision and his life and you are no one to judge. Especially if your own forefathers left Pakistan for Greener pastures abroad.

What is the rule in UK to get citizenship? Need to stay for 3-5 years I believe? By time he gets citizenship his playing career would be nearly over so it doesn't matter anyways. Might get couple of years of IPL money like Azhar Mahmood did, but time will tell.

Can't believe people actually bashing him for choosing to live in a different country. Majority of guys on this and other cricket forums immigrated to first world countries aswell. As long as he plays and gives it his all for pak, who cares where he sleeps at night and buys a house?

There is no chance of him getting UK citizenship in time to play for any other country. He is already close to 30 (real age) and it takes 7 years to get UK citizenship.

Just because he didnt admit immediately doesnt mean he would never regret genuinely. had he admitted it in Doha, you would be saying where was his guilt when he was actually committing the crime LOL.

As Tymal Mills received an IPL contract for $1.8 million, I would say that Amir would have received comparable sums every year he played in the IPL. If he received British citizenship, we will likely see him in the IPL. He is quite well known in India after his fantastic performances against the Indian team, and spectator interest in seeing him play would be very high.

He will never play in the IPL.
Take that to the bank, never.

Kolpak only takes 3 years

Kolpak only takes 3 years

He cant go Kolpak because it doesn't give you a citizenship and you cant play any international cricket and he is already earning more than any kolpak deal is giving him without playing IPL.
